A loyal knight of Valania and heir to house Dupres.
Personality:
Alexander is the archetypal gentleman. A fine young man with a profound love of his country and its people, Alexander despairs at the state of Valania and the downtrodden masses. However, he swears fealty to the nation above all, whomever might sit in its throne. He believes in the letter of the law and believes that those who would disobey the law are enemies of justice, no matter their intentions. While he longs for the day when his country is no longer under the boot of Sarife, he acknowledges that to avoid unnecessary bloodshed he must follow the word of its King. A kind and gentle person, Alex will never hesitate to help those in need regardless of their race or creed and he seeks to end every confrontation peacefully where possible. He is soft spoken and polite in his demeanour, though he can be moved to impassioned and indignant rage when his notion of justice is challenged.
Alexander is a pacifist at heart, which has earnt him the contempt of his peers and the disappointment of his father. He prefers to fight to wound, rather than kill and will disarm his opponent when possible, much to the chagrin of the many opponents who have been left dishonoured after their duels.
Goals and aspirations:
He seeks to protect Valania and perhaps one day free its citizens from their oppression. He believes that change can only occur within the boundaries set forth by the laws and will fight to protect those laws, even if he believes them unjust. However, at his heart he seeks one thing, to settle down with his childhood sweetheart and live a quiet life.
Fears:
Above all else, Alexander fears the loss of his beloved and would protect her with his life. Beyond that he is a selfless person who would gladly give everything to free his country and fears failure in his duty as a knight.
Likes:
Alexander is deeply in love with the former princess Catherine, he also has a close circle of friends with whom he shares a deep camaraderie in addition to his mentor as a knight. He holds his family dear despite whatever transgressions they may have committed and he is deeply devoted to his country.
Dislikes:
Alexander loathes injustice with a passion and hates to see the innocent or weak hurt in any way. He also has a great deal of enmity towards the Sarifen empire that smoulders in his heart.
Notable skills/abilities:
Master swordsman and tactician.
Equipment:
Alexander's rapier is a family heirloom, passed down through House Dupres for centuries. Its exquisite surface is ornately decorated with silver and is engraved with an ivy pattern that coils around the hilt and its pommel terminates in a rounded stud. The cross guard of the sword is likewise decorated with an ivy motif, with the quillons ending with stylised holly leaves. The blade itself is slender and double edged. It is razor sharp and finely honed to a needle like point. alexander was tutored in fencing by his father, the Field Marshall of Valania's military forces and one of few recognised master swordsmen in the world. He prefers the rapier over heavier weapons due to its lightning quick attack, complementing his own swift footwork and nimble movements. He fights with finesse and deft, dextrous techniques. However, those who train with him say Alexander is held back by his reluctance to kill, which give him a tendency to hesitate in battle. He has engaged in numerous duels in his time and remains undefeated, despite never killing an opponent.
Biography:
Alexander was born to a high ranking military family and befriended Lucius at an early age. However, Alexander’s family believed that with the loss of the previous king and queen, the kingdom would likely fall to invaders. When Lucius’ uncle’s plan to usurp his nephew’s throne failed, the Dupres family secretly allied with Sarife, bargaining with the invaders for a place in the new regime. This face weighs greatly on Alexander and he feels much shame for his family’s actions even while he publicly supports the occupation. In the years since the invasion, Alexander has served the new King faultlessly, rising through the ranks of the military to become one of the usurper’s most trusted knights. In that time he fell in love with Lucius’ sister, now an important political hostage of the usurper.
