Personality
Damien appears quiet at first glance, indifferent and unemotional. The 'unemotional' bit is, indeed, correct. Hence his name--Damien means "to tame" or "to subdue"--Damien "subdues" his emotions, taming them from the outside in so he feels indifferent. It is not exactly the case as he feels said emotions deep inside, mostly pent-up anger, but caring around his surroundings, chooses not to cause a scene. No, maybe not the environment... but his own reputation. Everyone else can cough up what they need from him or leave before he snaps. Because of his sternness, Damien takes no crap and does not tolerate nonsense. He strives on straightforward performances and statements, no "sugarcoating". Even the sense of humor he seems to have inherited from his father is filled with such bluntness and insults. What also goes with his unemotional approach is not only his unhealthy grudges, but also his secret tendencies to think he is always right. If anyone doubts him, he goes ballistic... inside. Leave it to Damien to implode upon handshake. Perhaps what he does to relief himself is what people find awkward or head-turning-worthy: punching walls, breaking dishes, and stamping on the floor to name a few impulsive actions.

Damien, obviously possessing the choleric temperament, is a natural-born leader. He wants to see his pupils strive in dangerous situations. He also feels his reputation as a sergeant is extremely important in order to have his memory imprinted in GUN history. One positive point, no doubt, is his strong work ethic, which comprises of quick service and accomplishes the task at hand. He juggles the cups of valor and determination at once, but focuses on one thing: the success at the end of the day and the money he profits from it. His older age, of course, refers to his free-spirited nature.

Older age also comes with the perks of having plenty of life experience, to think for himself and to understand others more, acquiring that empathetic "walk in their shoes". For example, he feels empathy for Sable as she has lost and constantly seeks peace. From an early age, she was taken under his wing, assuming the role of a father figure, a role he, due to his past, never had the opportunity to be. Damien's soft spot here makes him feel vulnerable and perhaps "less masculine" so he only sparingly does this, hoping Sable as a young adult can think for herself. He remains hard as stone in his composure, apathetic to those around him while maintaining his lawful good alignment, and just living life.

History
Damien Blackwell was born to Julien and Adara Blackwell on November 24 in a newly constructed hospital in Caboles, Ruby Kingdom. Since the hospital was low on staff, midwives from other city hospitals assisted with the birth instead of transferring Adara to another city--she declined the offer anyway. Nevertheless, Adara and Damien were safe and sound and were released the next day. Damien pretty much had a normal childhood. Something, however, was a little off in his development process: The fact that he came from parents who both embraced masculine traits. In other words, it was obvious that his father was a GEM soldier himself, but his mother was also akin to that of a warrior. With Julien's help, she was trained for combat using guns, swords, and other types of weapons. This training instilled a passion for war, leading her to sometimes secretly accompany him on their missions (this was before Damien was born) and pursue a field as a weapon expert. Damien was becoming raised around these two, further enhancing the social norm that men are expected to hold back their emotions and perform manly responsibilities. He was into the regular boy stuff - toy cars, guns, and whatnot. He went to school and graduated from high school at 18. During high school, he was involved in a military organization upon request by his parents. Shortly after joining, his passion grew and he went on to enlist in GEM a year later at 19.

Damien fell in love with and married Seraphina Aiden at the age of 20. Sera was a considerate, appealing waitress, who happened to encounter Damien at a steak restaurant standing around and waiting for what seemed like an eternity to be seated. Sera approached him and asked if he would like to be seated now, Damien said yes, and she served him for the night. When he was finished with his meal, he gave her the average tip and departed, but was stunned to find Sera running after him and giving him a piece of paper with her number on it. He, in fact, did not return to the restaurant for a while, choosing to go to others in case the girl would meet him again, but she appeared in his mind with each glance at the piece of paper. Finally, he called her one day and suppose one could say the rest is history. Over the course of their marriage, Sera came to love Damien only for his money, something Damien would find out down the road before he filed for divorce. Other incidents include her cheating on him with several men while he was out on GUN missions. One of the most infamous boyfriends she had was named Josh. Damien would come home early some days and find him sitting at their kitchen table, a surprised look crossing the scrawny little hedgehog's face. Being the mature man that he was, Damien shrugged off his trademark eyebrow raising and joked rather sarcastically about why Josh was here, but Sera would bring up lies as if she could not tell that her husband joked. At the age of 23, Damien found out that he was going to be a father, but his anticipation for his daughter's arrival was cut short when Sera aborted the child, listing her reasons of not wanting children right now or, worst-case scenario, not wanting any by him. Damien himself was indifferent to children, but having known about the murder drew the line and months later, after putting up with her one more time, filed for divorce. Their marriage was finally annulled on his 24th birthday. Not all was lost as he had become general of GEM.

When Damien was 27, he and Cyber went on a mission that resulted in an explosion. Damien was bruised with a cut on his ear. Cyber, on the other hand, suffered fatal injuries to certain parts of his body and had to be transported to the hospital by helicopter. Doctors told Damien that they have to amputate his arm and stitch up his head and perform surgery on his abdomen. At first, Damien did not think much about the injuries as he knew that Cyber was a strong-willed individual, but as time passed by, Damien was concerned for Cyber's recovery, thinking he wasn't going to be able to remain a soldier after the explosion. One time, Cyber's heart stopped beating and Damien broke off his regular visits to see his fallen comrade. For the longest time, Damien felt Cyber had died. He never attended a funeral or visited a grave in order to keep his masculinity in check (in other words, to not cry as crying was for the weak). Damien's confidence had taken on a new low where he started drinking in order to calm his fear of a damaged reputation. He had decided to quit the organization before the general convinced him not to, stating that Damien was an invaluable asset to the organization in recent years and that quitting the organization because of an accident was considered cowardly - as if he was throwing all his hard work and determination away for nothing.

Today, he has encountered the impulsive likes of Zach, who pesters him for a drink at every chance he makes. He has even discovered that Cyber, covered in robotic parts, was alive and recuperating in order to stay in GEM. They remain close to this day. Damien continues fighting in GUN, performing missions and training new soldiers. On the side, he visits Nettle and Maya at the Ruby Kingdom pub on his off time.
