Thomas Eden

"A gun behind every blade of grass."

0 · 339 views · located in Post Apocalyptic Spokane

a character in “Apocalypse: The Survival”, as played by Oran Tarlin

Description

Name: Thomas Eden
Age: 52
Class: Leader
Town: Cablas
Faction: Supports "the Underground"

Appearance: Though middle aged, Thomas keep himself well groomed, even after the end, for the sake of appearances. He goes nowhere without his sunglasses, and even sleeps in them. Some figure he must have taken them off when he found military grade ones, but no one is sure. Like most of the citizens of Cablas he wears a lot of leather-patched clothes, and, as leader, is given special plates to wear under his clothes, producing a more intimidating figure and acting as protection from bullets. He keeps a machete on his side and one on his back, while his pistol is very securely holstered, and he seems to absentmindedly tap it in his holster to make sure it's still there. He has particularly muscular legs, and so has no problem climbing or jumping even impressive heights.

He is almost never seen without a waterbottle, which he drinks from constantly. Though rumors abound on what it's filled with, many people can attest to seeing him fill it from the fish-tanks that have been converted to hold plain water. He apparently considered hydration very important.

Personality

Thomas is a reserved, quiet man, who tends to shake and twitch if he's not doing something busy. He's neurotic, confused, and perpetually terrified of his situation, and carries an enormous burden constantly. He is also, however, a talented image maker. Certainly the best of his clan of survivors.

Therefore, he comes off as a cool, calculating man, who is always vested in the betterment of his settlement, and can't stand not contributing. His standards are exacting and he is constantly thinking of something to do or perfect, regardless of what he's focused on at the moment. He is perpetually aware of the importance of his clan, his family, and understands that he is only leader on their authority. Though he's not the most educated man in his encampment, he does have the greatest knowledge of preserving food, and together with Cablas' doctor Aimes he has kept the survivors healthy and busy enough not to challenge him.

Although there is arguably a high standard of living in Cablas due to supplies, much preserved food, and a quite reliable supply of fresh water, it only gets that way because Thomas keeps every citizen working constantly to maintain everything the town owns, constantly foraging, hunting, and preserving, and having a group of people drawing, cleaning, and storing water at all hours of the day. Citizens are even expected to work while eating.

Equipment

Thomas Eden is absolutely terrified of guns, and even seeing them pointed at anything can leave him shivering. Despite his crippling neuroses, he has managed to keep a loaded pistol with him at all times, but prefers the viciously sharp hunting machete for daily purposes. The fact that he's willing to get so close to an attacker has only added to his mystique as a great leader. He is, however, an economics major, and acts as such, and values his water bottle over any gun. His fear of guns is so all-encompassing that when he is on the warehouse roofs, the snipers know not to turn around or point the guns anywhere but directly away from him. Some do it out of carefully manicured respect, while others know of this particular weakness.

History

Biography: Thomas was only 22 at the time of the nuclear fallout, working for an dual economics and agricultural science degree at Washington State University (go cougs). He made what was, in hindsight, a ridiculous decision, driving two hours north during the emergency evacuation warnings instead of heading to a bunker nearby. He longed to be with his family but due to an incident which left him one state over at the time, he had to stop across the border, in Idaho, when the freeway bridge collapsed. Taking refuge in a bomb shelter beneath a bar of all things, he discovered a new group of family with whom he quickly fell in with, and established himself as a trustworthy, albeit troubled boy.

Over the years he matured quickly, becoming accustomed to death and assuming a position of de-facto leader upon the death of some of the older survivors. By the 20 year mark the shelter was almost completely depleted, and the group made their first voyage above to survey the land. By this time Thomas was sufficiently jaded and quickly established the group inside the remains of an old warehouse. Perched above a river where the ruined bridge still laid, and the soot-filled rain making crossing treacherous, they had lucked upon an incredibly safe position. The warehouse which they raided, and ultimately took their name, was also stocked with supplies, as raiders had not yet left their bunkers or tried to cross the river. Another warehouse nearby provided much food, but Thomas used his authority (at the advice of his dearest friend and asset, a Doctor named Aimes), to keep strict rationing going, and over the next ten years had the survivors settling down and working tirelessly to fortify their position.

When the encampment of Cablas was finally discovered by raiders, he put his economics major to work, using his considerable supplies of weapons as bartering tools. The warehouse's numerous tents and canning supplies were arguably even more vital, as they allowed the survivors to settle there permanently. Although very few of his citizens (which he likes to call them) have any experience with guns outside the occasional hunting trip, the sheer amount of ammo he wields is staggering, but ten years have left fewer rounds fired and some figure the threat Cablas once boasted is now diminished.

Town history:
Established in the foritifed ruins of two enormous warehouses, Cablas has boasted an impressive westward facade since its inception. A bridge between the roofs of the warehouses create a sort of gate, and the numerous encampments on the roof provide a view of the river and abandon highway below. To the east, however, a gas station, an abandoned bar, and an old church are connected by a barricade and ditch, with little other protection, despite the fact that most attacks come from the eastern Idaho side, due to the natural protection of the river.

Although it lasted in its early years due to the shock and awe of so many guns, it has since then acted as supplier and magazine for the Underground, and there have been talks of moving to a more populated area. Now its biggest draws are its successful canned foods and its skilled doctor.

Extra:

The river has recently lowered considerably, to the point of being easily forded, and thus increased the pressure on Cablas citizens to move as raids become more and more likely.

So begins...
