Middling tall and rather slender, she has wirey muscle not usually apparent. Along her right arm she has a sleeve tattoo of patterned eyes and diamonds in purple and grey ink, running from mid-forearm to shoulder, usually hidden by her clothes because the school disapproves. Looks a lot like her mother.

Personality: Gwen is most definitely not a socialite. A bit of an introvert, she's most likely to be seen sitting alone, usually on her laptop or with a sketchbook. She's very smart and often the first with an answer when a teacher asks, but is not at all motivated, keeping a B average by doing no homework but scoring high on tests. Gwen is friendly, especially to those who make a good first impression on her, but isn't one to chat about nothing, rather listening and commenting when necessary. She enjoys physical contact, though she rarely gets it. Ironically, despite the fact both her father, godfather, and deceased mother are or were pilots she is afraid both of heights and of flying. A bit spoiled by her father and rich god father, she can get pretty much anything she asks for, though she asks for little. She mostly just wants her father to be around more, though she'd never say that to him.

Talents: Gwendolyn is a relatively good artist, working mainly with pencil, acrylic, and digital medias. Jack-of-all-trades, master of none, name a thing and she can probably do it, whether it's fixing electronics or sewing pockets, she can do it with her trusty laptop at her side. She dabbles in a lot of things, intellectual subjects included. She has a junior black belt in okinawan karate, but also has bad asthma meaning that she sits out during gym and isn't likely to outrun anyone. She is also allergic to pineapple, which she found out the hard way.

Bio/Backstory: After Gwen's mom died when she was six her father was in a bad place, depressed though he hid it between jokes and smiles. He started working more, rarely coming home and Gwen learned to take care of herself from the time she was in first grade. The quiet one in class, she often worried her teachers until she found that raising her hand to answer questions would get them off her back. Her intelligence grew as a defense measure until she grew to enjoy reading. Art was the only thing she had left of her mother and that was the one thing that she pursued. She has so far coasted through school, only once having a disciplinary problem during her freshman year of highschool when she got into a fight with four of her classmates, who were kicking around an injured cat. Two knees and a shoulder were dislocated, one wrist and one nose broken, and five eyes blackened and lips split, one each of the last her own. Balthazar was called in since her father was halfway around the world and she was suspended for two weeks, with detentions for the next three instead of being expelled, this with the help of Balthazar's glib tongue. She kept the cat though, naming the crooked tailed black and white tuxedo cat Arthur. Her tattoo she got over the summer between sophomore and junior years, planning it so that when she brought the note in, the number on it Balthazar's, when they called to make sure, he was hung over from a night of partying and willing to say anything to get whoever woke him up to go away.

Gwen sat with her lunch at her usual spot at the roots of a tree in Ashlake park, pencil in one hand halved peanut butter sandwich in the other. She had claimed this spot, with it's view of the lake, arch, and nearby benches when she had first started at Ashlake Junior High, who's grounds butted up to those of the high school. She hadn't been allowed to take her lunch here then, but had spent her afternoons once classes let out, this place being preferable to her empty home. For now, she bit into her sandwich, making quick sketches of passersby in her notebook. A trio of joggers, a couple sitting on a bench kissing, a tall man, taller even than her rather tall godfather, viewing the arch. 'He must be new here', she thought briefly, 'most residents of the city simply ignore the arch, it's kinda cool, been here as long as I can remember, but nothing special. Though it gives off some wierd vibes some times'. She broke off then, pondering the archway and it's possibilities, not noticing as the tall man left after speaking with one of the boys from her school. Instead she drew the archway's details from memory, surrounding it in colorful and whimsical swirls and shapes using the colored pencils that peeked from her shoulder bag.

She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice anyone approaching until a shadow blocked the dappled sunlight that passed through the leaves. She nearly jumped as a familiarly accented voice spoke,
"Well if it isn't our little artist. Shouldn't you be in class, little Gwen?"
Gwendolyn rolled her eyes, though the corner of her mouth curled, "I have my lunch break. Shouldn't you be at work, Balti?" she said, knowing that he hated the nickname just about as much as she hated the 'little' attached to her own.
He shrugged, "I took the day off. You can do that when you're your own boss."
"Well, you're in my light, so schooch."
Balthazar chucked and obediently moved off to the side, leaning a shoulder against her tree. There were a few moments of companionable quiet before he broke it, "Gabe is due in town tomorrow evening."
Gwen could feel the hope rise in her chest, but she was quick to push it down, "Oh?"
She heard her godfather sigh, "I got him to agree with dinner the day after, so you'll have at least a day or so with him home, kitten."
"If he doesn't reneg again," She said under her breath, her mood turning sour. She started packing up her things, the second half of her sandwich forgotten. In her normal voice she said, "Well I have a test next period I should go study for. It was good seeing you, Balthazar. We're still on for dinner this Sunday?"
He nodded his agreement and returned her short wave as she walked back towards school, her shoulders tense in such a way that she probably wouldn't relax until the weekend.

Gwendolyn pulled her sketchbook back out of her bag once she reached her desk. She hadn't lied about having a test, her next period was English, but she had no intention of studying. Instead, she pulled out both her colored sketch of the archway and that of the tall man who had stood in front of it. Laughing at herself, she drew them in a series of poses. The man in brightly patterned robes with a conical wizards hat, casting a spell on the arch; him walking widdershins once, twice, three times around the archway for it to reveal an enchanted forest within the arch, with tiny elves and fairies and a unicorn in the background; him pronated on his knees before the arch, a streak of blood on the top and a demonic eye looking through, clawed hands reaching out; and lastly a view of foreign stars through the arch, a spaceship fleet waiting on the other side.
That was all she had time for as her classmates and teacher filtered in, the latter giving her a nod of greeting, which she returned, the former all ignoring her. These last few weeks of classes were, ostensibly, her favorite. No homework, just tests and reviews, which she all but slept through.

But Gwendolyn noticed something else. It was in the middle of the lake. A pale, ghostly figure. It was female, with a white gold glow surrounding it. Could it be an optical illusion? It didn't appear to be. Then suddenly, it ducked back under the water and it was gone. The glow remained in the air for a second or two before subsiding. It left no trace after that. It was very strange.

Gwen gave a soft sigh as the last bell rang, not joining the rest of the students in her class in the rush to get out the door, but rather putting away her class notebook and text and pulling out her sketchbook. Her pencil wielding hand moved lazily across the page as she watched the tree sway out in the courtyard, eyes half-lidded in the late-spring afternoon warmth. Thoughts drifting back to the lake whe pondered what she had seen, likely just an optical illusion, or a visual figment brought about by the stress of Balthazar's news, whimsical wonders still took hold of her. A lady in the lake, a fairy? A nymph? she chuckled quietly at her own whimsy, What the heck, it could be a water dragon in human form or a visitor from an analogous world in the reflection of the lake. Perhaps something to do with the tall man in the archway? She shook her head. It had become rather boring to draw the lake itself over the past few years, the only thing that ever changed was the reflection of the trees across it's glassy surface, seemingly never touched by the breeze. Perhaps today she would. She nodded to herself, securing that idea in her mind as she packed away her sketchbook and pulled her bag over her shoulder. She should take tonight to clean the house and get ready for her father's return, however brief it may turn out to be, but she was a relatively neat person and could rationalize away the need to clean, in favor of whimsy and curiosity.

Time: 3:56 PM

Gwendolyn sat at her spot, back against the sturdy tree and stared out across the park. There were more students out now, given the end of classes for the day, but she didn't spot the boy she had seen earlier. She did, though, keep an eye out for the tall man and any movement on the lake. Quick fingers made a detailed sketch of the landscape, if a bit slower than her quick sketches of the passers by. A frisbee caught her in the knee at one point, startling her, but she threw it back to the group playing catch, waving away their apologies.

She stayed until the sky grew dim with the approaching evening and the lamps that followed the paved trails flickered on. With a small yawn she packed away her things and headed to an empty home.

As Gwendolyn was walking home she couldn't help but keep thinking about what she'd seen. The lake had always seemed strange. It had a weird vibe about it. But could there be some creature living there? A fairy or elf of some kind? Hard to think it could be possible. But Gwendolyn was brought back to Earth by a voice.
"Excuse me." The voice said. It was the tall man she'd seen earlier. He had blue eyes and a ponytail. "I own a jewellery shop not far from here and I've just moved the area. I was just giving a few free gifts out to various people and wondered if you would be interested in this?" He held out his hand. In it was a pendant with an expensive looking stone in the middle. "All yours if you like. I feel it belongs with you."
