Apprentice Ritualist with a reserved nature and magpie-like love for knowledge
Mannerisms: Shy around people but regains confidence when practicing her skills and working with animals. She has an inner strength but doesn’t get much opportunity to show it. Reserved but generally a happy person. Good to talk to when she gets over her nerves.
Relationship skills: There are few people she dislikes but due to her quiet and shy nature, her relationships take a long time to build. When they do, however, they are strong and long-lasting.
Habits: She has a habit of rubbing her burned hand when thinking hard and hides her arm markings when nervous. She continually tries to tuck her hair behind her ears as a motion of habit and will occasionally chew the ends unconsciously.
Hobbies: Ritualism, alchemy (though she is very much still a novice in this field), riding, reading, sketching (including creating new ritual runes), collecting small objects (though more often than not she does this unconsciously.
Favourite Sayings: “Um... well, uh...”, “Please don’t touch that!”, “It’s easy really...”
Speech patterns: Well-pronounced words with a faint unknown accent.
Style (Elegant, shabby etc.): Elegant but definitely not tidy. More often seen with her jacket thrown in a corner and long sleeves rolled up to the elbows
Educational Background: Purely academial upbringing, initially in history and literature and then in ritualism. She is close to finishing her Ritualism apprenticeship and has begun training in Alchemy.
Intelligence Level: Very high, though she has little common sense.
Any Mental Illnesses? None
Character's short-term goals in life: To finish her Alchemy training
Character's long-term goals in life: To make the world’s biggest Grimoire of ritual runes and make her mentor proud
How does Character see himself/herself? Awkward, quietly competent, a bit of a loner
How does Character believe he/she is perceived by others? Shy, helpless, unconvincing
How self-confident is the character? Difficult to say: she is self-confident only in Ritualism – yet she’s not self-confident in anything else
Does the character seem ruled by emotion or logic or some combination thereof? Logic (she’s got enough sense to think things through even when feeling emotional)
What would most embarrass this character? A ritual going wrong or being shown up by another Ritualist.
Introvert or Extrovert? Introvert
How does the character deal with anger? She very rarely gets angry and when she does it just gets bottled up without being seen until she has an opportunity to think things through logically and calm herself down.
With sadness? Puts all her energy into work until she forgets about it.
With conflict? With people, avoids it until she can’t any longer, then backs down as soon as she can; outside of that, she focuses on finding a solution that will help minimise or end the conflict.
With change? She is adaptable and happily accepts change as long as it seems logical.
With loss? She hides herself away so that no one can see her tears and to take time to compose herself.
What does the character want out of life? To make life-long friends and be accepted as a master in her field.
What would the character like to change in his/her life? Her lack of confidence with people.
What motivates this character? The lack of knowledge of her past (she doesn’t want to end up a nobody)
What frightens this character? Snakes and being a footnote in the annals of history
What makes this character happy? Ritualism, reading and making friends
Is the character judgmental of others? Not at all – she always thinks the best of people
Is the character generous or stingy? Generous
Is the character generally polite or rude? Unfailingly polite
What are the character's spiritual beliefs? Firm follower of both Ciel and Gaia
Is religion or spirituality a part of this character's life? Very much so – ritualism depends on it
If so, what role does it play? While she doesn’t often pray in her personal life, prayers to Ciel and Gaia are very much the centre of ritualism. Depending on what ritual is being cast, depends on who the prayer is addressed to during the ritual, however, all rituals begin with a prayer to Ciel for wisdom and guidance in the task.
Apart from her charm bracelet, Deena carries with her a worn leather satchel, containing her Grimoire, carefully stoppered ink vials in various colours, several quills, a lacquered etching stick, a few semi-precious stones and polished rocks, half-a-dozen feathers, a mouse skull wrapped carefully in silk, an ivory and gold symbol of Gaia and Ciel given to her by Kimberlyn on her eighteenth birthday, a couple of pouches of basic alchemial powders, a bag of drying sand and her wallet with a handful of pennies and shillings. When not wearing her headscarf covering her hair or like a bandanna, she often wears it tied around her neck or folded neatly in her bag.

Biography [to present]:
Nothing is known about Deena’s life prior to the age of three. Found wandering in the streets, half-starved and covered in dirt, she was brought into the Academy and cared for by the staff. As soon as she could read, Dee spent most of her time in the libraries, and was taken under with wing of Kimberlyn, who was herself barren. As she became older, she attempted to find out more about her family, but through various discussions with her peers and elders, only managed to note that she was from a mixed society background: the pale clarity of her markings marred by inky black splodges and her only childhood possession a finely etched Erythoril charm bracelet. And despite asking around the local towns and hamlets, no one came forward to claim parenthood.
When Deena reached sixteen, Kimberlyn put the young girl’s name forward to Master Haider, knowing that she wouldn’t have the confidence to do so herself. Master Haider soon found he had an easy student on his hands as Deena absorbed the work like a sponge, spending most of her free time practicing the craft until she was advanced from Novice to the position of Apprentice by the age of eighteen. She has stayed an apprentice longer than usual in order to fill the book she calls ‘Grimoire’: a fully comprehensive encyclopaedia of runes used in ritual spells that she has collected through the studies of ancient and modern texts. When Master Haider was invited to oversee the Academy on the Leviathon, he in turn asked Dee if she wanted to come, knowing her love of increasing her knowledge. Reluctant to leave Kimberlyn behind, she only accepted when Haider offered to get the older woman a place stewarding the ship’s library, but is still quietly excited about finding new magics that she can add to her collection.
