Akemi is a young woman with chin length black hair and fair skin. She has a toned body after years of training and working out to keep up her strength. After all, you never know when you're going to need to attack someone.
Her typical wardrobe consists of a white shirt, light grey or white pants, black boots, and a jacket. Her jacket bears the gold insignia of the Kyoshi Warriors on the shoulders, pocket, and back of her jacket. She has three jackets: a red one, a black one, and a dark green one. Akemi wears a black sash around her hips, which holds her fans, katana, and shield. When in public, she will wear black gloves that control the electrocution abilities of her fans.
Akemi almost always wears a red scarf. It was a gift to her from the Fire Lord, as a way to show her his appreciation for what she was doing for his daughter.

She is someone who will give her life to protect the ones she loves. Additionally, her protectiveness of Mei-Ling comes from her motherly nature. Akemi tries to care for her friend as if she were her mother or older sister. She wants to keep the girl out of harms way in both an emotional and physical sense. Akemi aims to teach her friend about the world around her and the forces of good and bad in the world. She also tends to mother those around her, whether she realizes it or not. Though she is technically not required to stay with Mei-Ling, she does so anyway due to her loyalty and protectiveness of her friend.
Due to her protectiveness of Mei-Ling, the Kyoshi Warrior is slow to trust others. She comes across as cold to many, but her reason for doing this is to keep Mei-Ling safe. It's not impossible to win her trust, but it does take some time. Respect is another thing you have to earn from this young woman. Once someone has earned her trust and respect, she will stand by them and care for them in the same manner she does for the Fire Nation Princess.

Akemi was the best Warrior trained in her division on Kyoshi Island, leading to her borderline arrogance of her abilities as a Warrior. She also takes pride in being Mei-Ling's bodyguard, despite having failed in the Fire Lord's eyes. Due to her confidence in her abilities, she often challenges others to sparring matches. She takes extreme delight in beating her opponents. She likes to train and work out in order to keep herself fit and ready for battle.
Akemi is a very serious person due to her role as a bodyguard. She doesn't understand how others can be so immature and lighthearted. She has a calm demeanor. She is not one to run head first into something (unless Mei-Ling is in danger or it's a sparring match). Though she normally appears mellow, albeit intimidating, this can be changed by someone saying the wrong thing about her, her family, Mei-Ling, or the Kyoshi Warriors. Her pride will get the better of her and she will wholeheartedly defend whatever aspect of her or another someone is attacking.
Despite being untrusting and at times pugnacious, Akemi means well and is a kind person. She is empathetic to others' situations and will apologize if she realizes she has deeply hurt someone. In the tradition of the Kyoshi Warriors, Akemi carries two metal fans and a katana. With the electric weapon technology available in today’s world, her fans have been equipped to provide a shock to their target if she so chooses. This feature is controlled by a pair of black gloves that she wears, which charges the fans and has a control to activate the electric abilities. Without a proper charge, the fans cannot do any electrocution damage. With each shock they provide, the amount of power in them decreases until they are left with little or no power in them to shock others. If used without the gloves, they will remain uncharged but can still be used to disarm an enemy due to their boomerang or projectile like behaviour when thrown. Her katana does not have any electrocution properties and is used secondary to her fans.
Akemi also carries a shield reminiscent of those used by the warriors in the Hundred Year War.

✧Chi-Blocking - After the Hundred Year War, Ty Lee taught the fighting style known as chi-blocking to the Kyoshi Warriors. It is still taught to the Warriors today, though no Kyoshi Warrior has ever mastered it as Ty Lee had. Still, Akemi is able to disable a bender or a limb if she has to.

✧Strength - After years of training and a daily workout routine, Akemi has built up some muscle and is pretty strong for a young woman.

Akemi was born to an earth bending mother and fire bending father. She has an older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister. She is the middle triplet of her sisters and like her brother, was born a nonbender. Her parents are wealthy, living in her mother's hometown of Gaoling in the Earth Kingdom. During the summer, her family would travel to the Fire Nation Capital to visit her father's large family.
She grew up in a stable household, albeit a bit of a crazy one due to the number of children and the duties of her mother and father. The young girl enjoyed playing with her sisters, as the three of them were inseparable. When her sisters started to show bending abilities, she just thought that she needed a few more weeks to start showing hers. Weeks turned to months and after a year, it was clear to her that she was not born a bender. She was jealous of her sisters, envying what they could do and learn that she couldn't. She would take this anger out on the trees around the family's property, hurling objects at them. Her maternal grandmother, Ekta, witnessed this on a visit to the family's home. She suggested that Akemi be trained as a Kyoshi Warrior, as Ekta had grown up on Kyoshi Island and seen the Warriors across the island.
Thrilled at the prospect of receiving a form of combat training, Akemi quickly brightened and began to enjoy herself again. That summer, instead of traveling with her family to the Fire Nation Capital, she travelled with her grandmother to Kyoshi Island to begin her training. She was accepted to train with the Kyoshi Warriors, learning their unique fighting style, history, and more about the world around her.
At the age of 14, after 7 years of training, she was allowed to go with her parents to the Fire Nation Capital. As they were traveling, they stopped on the island to see Akemi's progress. They then took her with them to the Capital. It was the usual family vacation-- visiting her father's siblings, exploring the city, and plenty of chances to take a break. However, this all changed when word spread of the Fire Lord's wish to have a protector for his youngest child and only daughter. Haruki knew his daughter was the perfect candidate, given her age, training, and exemplary performance among the Kyoshi Warriors. She was brought to the palace, where she demonstrated her abilities to the Fire Lord. She was assigned to be his daughter's bodyguard and given a red scarf as a sign of his trust and gratitude towards her.
Akemi adjusted to life inside the Palace, staying by Mei-Ling's side constantly. The two quickly became friends, able to talk to each other without fear of judgement. Being four years older, Akemi saw herself as the older sister and mother that Mei-Ling never had. In addition to serving as her protector, she also did her best to mother the young girl. She often told her friend about life outside of the Palace, though Akemi herself hadn't been to too many places in her lifetime. Still, it was enough for Mei-Ling, who just wanted to be free to explore.
Once Mei-Ling was 13, the pair were allowed into the city on the condition that they stay within its walls. Akemi pitied the poor girl, who only wanted to explore as any person would. Having explored the city before during the brief periods she left Mei-Ling's side, she knew of certain paths and tunnels to get out of the city without being spotted. She would guide the Princess outside of the city and lead her to the ocean. Here, the Princess could happily feel the ocean breeze and experience a little slice of the world outside the Fire Nation Capital. Akemi enjoyed the trips as well. She was glad to see her friend happy and the ocean reminded her of her time on Kyoshi Island. She knew what she was doing would have severe punishment if the Fire Lord found out, but she wanted Mei-Ling to be happy.
Unfortunately, the pair were spotted one day by a guard. During their outing, a group of guards came and escorted them back to the Palace. The Fire Lord threatened to execute Akemi and imprison his daughter again. The Kyoshi Warrior knew she was no match for the guards and held back tears as she thought about her and her friend's fate. She was surprised when Mei-Ling attacked the guards after they had grabbed her to take her away. They were wounded as Akemi stood their, dumbstruck. Before she knew it the Fire Lord rose from his throne and attacked his daughter. Akemi rushed to her friend's side. The two were exiled and told they would be executed should they dare to set foot in the capital again.
Akemi and Mei-Ling have been traveling together since these events. Though no longer employed by the Fire Lord, she still feels that it is her duty to protect Mei-Ling. She hoped to eventually return the Princess to the Royal Palace, but she knows it will be quite awhile before this becomes a possibility. Until then, she's content to travel with her best friend, act as her guardian, and beat others in sparring matches.

Akemi was born to an earth bending mother and fire bending father. She has an older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister. She is the middle triplet of her sisters and like her brother, was born a nonbender. Her parents are wealthy, living in her mother's hometown of Gaoling in the Earth Kingdom. During the summer, her family would travel to the Fire Nation Capital to visit her father's large family.
She grew up in a stable household, albeit a bit of a crazy one due to the number of children and the duties of her mother and father. The young girl enjoyed playing with her sisters, as the three of them were inseparable. When her sisters started to show bending abilities, she just thought that she needed a few more weeks to start showing hers. Weeks turned to months and after a year, it was clear to her that she was not born a bender. She was jealous of her sisters, envying what they could do and learn that she couldn't. She would take this anger out on the trees around the family's property, hurling objects at them. Her maternal grandmother, Ekta, witnessed this on a visit to the family's home. She suggested that Akemi be trained as a Kyoshi Warrior, as Ekta had grown up on Kyoshi Island and seen the Warriors across the island.
Thrilled at the prospect of receiving a form of combat training, Akemi quickly brightened and began to enjoy herself again. That summer, instead of traveling with her family to the Fire Nation Capital, she travelled with her grandmother to Kyoshi Island to begin her training. She was accepted to train with the Kyoshi Warriors, learning their unique fighting style, history, and more about the world around her.
At the age of 14, after 7 years of training, she was allowed to go with her parents to the Fire Nation Capital. As they were traveling, they stopped on the island to see Akemi's progress. They then took her with them to the Capital. It was the usual family vacation-- visiting her father's siblings, exploring the city, and plenty of chances to take a break. However, this all changed when word spread of the Fire Lord's wish to have a protector for his youngest child and only daughter. Haruki knew his daughter was the perfect candidate, given her age, training, and exemplary performance among the Kyoshi Warriors. She was brought to the palace, where she demonstrated her abilities to the Fire Lord.
