"To be aware of one's own body is to know one's limits..."

Hair Color
Dark brown

Eye Color
Green

Skin Tone
White; tanned.

Height
6'

Weight
150lbs.

Physical Description
Asad is a tall man of adequate muscle mass and tanned dark skin, rather typical of an Earthbender. He has long, dark brown hair that he has tied back in a large plume. Across the bridge of his nose is a straight horizontal scar that ends at the midpoint of each eye. There are also a few scattered scars along his body, two rather large and deep ones obvious in his mid-torso. His eyes, though green, usually appear rather dull and void. On his right forearm is a blue tattoo. The wrist guard he wears covers it, but the small sliver that comes out from the guard appears to be a chain link of some sort.

He would appear to most as a disheveled, grumpy man at first. He looks to be a drinker at first glance, which is certainly true. He often has a tired-looking expression as well if nothing interesting is happening.

His outfit consists of a torn sky blue shawl with a large collar to cover his face if it were to stand up. However, it sags and only covers part of his barely-shaven chin. His torso is almost completely exposed, showing a well-trained body in the open. Upon his wrists he wears iron guards and a strange metal pauldron on his left arm that appears to go upwards like a set of upside-down wings. He wears very baggy blue pants as well, the same color as his shawl, that cease to bag when met by his shoes. They appear to be as boots, provising shin guarding and covering, but the toe and heel are open on them. Around his waist is a rope tied to create a place to hold his drink and blade.

"A man who does not train his body is sure to fall."

Potential Interest
After his adventures with her and seeing her in traditional Earth Kingdom garb, he has developed something of an interest in the Chi Blocker, Xue Zamora.

Skills

Discipline || While it may not exactly seem like a skill at first, he has spent many years training his mind and body to be disciplined. He can keep calm, cool and collected in near any situation.
Swordsmanship || Along with Earthbending, he spend his life training in the way of the blade. A very presitigious school taught him, and he takes his teachings very seriously.
Tough Body || Earthbending training has hardened his body to endure more pain than the normal person. Blunt pain, that is. Sharp pains and cuts still get him hard. But if you throw a rock at him, he'll more than likely shrug it off.

Power Abilities
Secondary Ability: Sandbending
Earth Bending || Considered a Master, Asad is a trained Earthbender. He can bend the Earth to his will for combat or any practical situation. It has become second nature to him, just like the sword.
Golem Bending || Asad is infamous for his ability to bend "golems." While not animate, they move as if relying on their own will as he controls them. Few have faced his golems without breaking many bones.
Armor || He can envelop himself in earth to make him appear as one of his golems in a form of protective armor.
Way of the Sword || As an extremely practiced swordsman, his skill with a blade can allow him to cut through solid trees, even through rock. His skill with a blade rivals that of his Bending.

Image

"There are three certainties in life: honor, death... and hangovers."

Other
Depending on where they are in the Earth Kingdom, Asad may have to wear a disguise of sorts. It will usually consist of a big hat to hide his face and bandaging across his torso to hide away his scars. He may also ditch the pauldron as well, being a key defining feature of his.

Habits

Drinking || Put a drink in front of Asad and he will drink it. It does not matter how much or how little he has had to drink already. He especially likes alcohol that burns a bit on the way down.
Nosy || He doesn't quite understand when to not ask, poke and prod about something. He may even get a bit childish in attempting to obtain this information with some whining, complaining, pleading, bargaining, etc.
Blunt || Unlike his blade, Asad is blunt in his speech. He doesn't really butter words up or try to soften them at all. Even when he's trying not to be, he may come off as rude now and then when he speaks.
Paranoia || He often seems to think that someone is watching or following him, whether he is or isn't.
Childish || In an attempt to mask his own anguish with his past, he tends to be very lax, lazy, silly and sarcastic when with people he trusts.

Likes
Liquor || Self-explanatory, he enjoys his drink.
Celebrations || Living the life of an outcast, Asad enjoys being part of big parties and celebrations where he can let loose and have some fun for once.
Acceptance || Somewhat serious, but he enjoys the feeling of being accepted. Being banished from his home and spending his life roaming from place to place alone, he loves the company of others. "The sword is poor company for a long road."
Music || Asad very much enjoys music and plays the pan flute himself.

Dislikes
Sleeping || His dreams are usually nightmares, flashbacks to his past. He doesn't enjoy them at all and generally puts off sleep as long as he can.
People who are too uptight || Banished from his life of strict discipline, he does not enjoy being bossed around much or being around people who do not take jokes well.
Killing || Despite having to do it, he dislikes killing. The act of taking a life is not difficult to him, but the guilt afterwards becomes heavy.

Strengths
Environments: Rock and Desert || Put him in an area with rock or sand and he will have a serious advantage with his bending ability.
Duels || One-on-one, he usually comes out on top. It is rare that he fights "dirty," so to say, but he will do what it takes to survive.
Extended Fights || A trained body makes it easy for him to stay in fights for a while, provided he isn't taking a lot of damage.

Weaknesses
Social Skills || He lacks them. He tends to insult, offend, and offend people somehow without really trying. He just speaks his mind how it comes to his mind, for better or worse.
Water || He doesn't like it. He doesn't like being wet, he doesn't like his sand getting wet, and he certainly isn't a fan of fighting Waterbenders with any sort of skill.
Publicity || It could cause trouble not only for him but for any companions he has if he were to go into a fair portion of the Earth Kingdom without concealing his identity. Being a wanted criminal has its downfalls, it would seem.

"Just looking for a road home."

Personality
Prideful | Driven | Irresponsible | Light-hearted/Heavy-hearted

Asad is very prideful, holding his skill and his honor above almost all else. Protecting what shreds of his honor remain is extremely important to him. On that note, he is driven to find a way to regain this honor. By finding the true killer and clearing his name, he hopes to one day find his own peace and security. To free himself from the life of a wanderer is what drives him to get up every day.

Despite what the former might tell you about his personality, he is rather irresponsible. Yes, he is driven to regain his honor and clear his name. But he can be pretty lazy, nonchalant, and on occasion tipsy. Even drunk. With that said, he appears to be a rather light-hearted man. He rarely seems to take things too seriously and looks to have fun whenever he can. However, guilt and worry weigh down this otherwise light heart. Asad has ghosts in his pasts that haunt him whenever he drops that light guise even for a moment.

"A lot of people want me dead. They call it justice. I'm the only one who knows the truth. And all I have left is the earth beneath my feet."

History
Discipline was Asad's life from the moment he was born. Being put through a prestigious swordsman school by his father that taught him discipline, honor, and respect was enough without him discovering a natural ability to bend earth well. The entirety of his life up to the point he was sixteen was him training his body, mind and spirit in the way of the sword and the ways of an earth bender. He barely even had time for his family and private matters, never getting to spend time with his younger half-brother. But soon enough he was realized as a true man and warrior by his school and parents. Soon enough he was appointed to security duty in his small town, but his skill would draw the attention of a larger city's leaders. They requested that he come work for them on bodyguard duty. He and his family had never been so honored.

His time there was only a short year. An attack from a group of poor bandits caught the entire city by surprise, Asad especially when he was too slow to stop them from killing the man he was protecting. He managed to cut most of them down in the end, but he had failed to protect the man, despite almost avenging him. One of these bandits escaped as Asad finished his men off. When he was discovered, it was his own strength that was to be his downfall. The other guard members who found him believed that these men were too weak to have outsped Asad, and that it was Asad himself who cut down the man he was supposed to be protecting. He was ready to accept punishment for failing to protect him, but to be framed for his murder he would not allow. His honor would not permit dying for a crime he did not commit. Using his skills, he escaped the city and was branded an outlaw. A wanted criminal.

Since that day three years ago he has spent his time wandering the lands, looking for the man who took his honor from him. The criminal who got away. In the process, he has had to fight and defeat many of his former allies. But Asad did not know if this man was in the Earth Kingdom anymore. He took to exploring the world in its entirety, both to get away from those who would hunt him and to search for the killer. And when he does, he would bring that killer to justice, back to the Earth Kingdom to stand trial and prove Asad's innocence. But for now, it's just him, his drink, his blade, and a long road...

So begins...

This particular morning, there was no hustle and bustle in the Northern Water Tribe. It was silent as if no one lived there at all. Children stood behind their parents scared and shaking with absolute fear. The women held their loved close to them because they didn't want nothing to happen to them. The men were negotiating with a gang inside of one of the buildings. A little teenage girl stood behind her mother, not scared at all, no was she afraid of the gang inside of the tent. But what she saw next was going to change her forever. She saw her father being thrown out of the tent and it had looked like he had been Chi Blocked. Her jaw and fists were clenched as snow started to swirl all around her. Her mother caught then sight then knelt down to her level, shaking her head while breathing out a no in absolute fear. Soon, the Chi Blockers walked out of the tent then stared down at the body of her father. They oddly reserved the Chi Blocking that was placed upon him and left. Everyone dispersed back to their tent as Kasumi ran over to her father asking if she was okay. He nodded his head but then stared up at her mother because they both knew she had to go ahead and start training - Even though, they were scared of her to travel alone.

That was nearly seven years ago as she was seen looking out the window of their home at the rising sun. Her mother had walked into her room as she spoke that her master requested her services immediately. Kasumi lowered her head with a soft sigh escaping over her parted lips. She turned heel and walked past her mother and out of her room. Her eyes gazed towards her father and siblings as she smiled gently then offered them a small wave before heading out the door and making her trek towards the building were her master resided.

Upon entering his home, she saw that he was training another student waterbending. She walked in with a smile then that was when her master caught her out of the corner of her eye. He released the student in training or told him to take a break as she sat down and awaited her master's attention. "Ah, Kasumi, how have you been?" Kasumi raised up to her feet upon her master speaking towards her. "Good. I guess you heard too?" She spoke after bowing towards her master. Her master nodded his head at her questionable tone towards him. She sighed softly then looked towards him.

"These Chi Blocking fools are about to get on my nerves. I mean, who is malicious enough to attack every single nation?" Her master rested a hand upon her shoulder then spoke softly towards her. "Kasumi, you have those groups out there that are like that but it is up to you to make sure no other group rise up again." She looked off to the side then he continued. "Now, I've taken the liberty to call to the other nations and get you retrained by some of their best benders." Kasumi raised one of her delicate brows up at him as she stood to her feet after his hand was removed from her shoulder. "As a matter of fact, they're already here. Waiting for you." Her master handed her three bags then patted her on her back. "Your parents brought them over here last night. I am also going to give you my polar bear dog, Kowai." She smiled then nodded her head as he handed her the reigns.

She went out to get Kowai and saddled her up as she sat her three bags upon Kowai's back. She softly tugged the reigns as Kowai slowly walked towards the gates of the Northern Water Tribe. Upon getting there, she stared down at the group of benders but she was sure that at least two of them were non benders. Her brow raised as a female bared the colors of a Chi Blocker. Kasumi didn't want to make a scene on her very first day so she ignored that fact for right now.

"I remember seeing some of you guys in your respective nation. We all grew up since then but most of you know about that am I the Avatar and I want to be treated as such." She breathed after those words then continued. "I suppose that we are going to the Earth Kingdom first since that is the next element in the cycle." Her and Kowai walked past them as she hoped they knew to follow her. She didn't want to start the introductions until they actually started moving towards the Earth Kingdom.

She slid off of Kowai along with her bags as she handed Kowai and her to a crewman. "Take my bags to my room and take Kowai towards the kettle, please." The crewman nodded and did as he was told as she turned heel after petting Kowai, folding her arms over her chest, a smirk plastered upon her feminine features as she turned around and walked to the deck of the ship, standing close to the edge as a breeze blew over her. Her eyes turned back towards her mentors as she walked towards them.

"Okay. As I said before, I am the Avatar, Kasumi is what I prefer to be called. You guys are?"

Xue kept her back straight as a pole and her chin up as she joined up with the group that was waiting just inside the gates of the Northern Water Tribe. She could feel the glares boring into her but kept her eyes straight ahead and her posture proud and undaunted. Despite her outward appearance, Xue was more than a little nervous being surrounded by benders that most likely despised chi-blockers. She made sure to stand at the back of the group to keep from attracting attention but the colors dyed into her tiger seal skin coat made her stand out a good deal more than she would have liked.

Usually Xue would have gone with the blues and whites of the waterbenders when dressing herself for the short time they would be spending traveling with Kasumi at the North Pole, but the person who had contacted Xue to join the Avatar's group of trainers insisted that she wear something that would identify her as the chi-blocker she truly was. She had protested for a while but finally gave in and allowed her clothes to be dyed the customary colors of the chi-blocking resistance

The crunch of snow brought Xue from her trance and she looked up to see the Avatar, Kasumi, approaching them on the back of a polar bear dog and then stopping in front of them. Xue didn't miss the Avatar raise her eyebrow with an annoyed look when she noticed the colors of her coat, but ignored it. Kasumi then began to make a brief introduction of herself before they began towards the ship that would take them to the Earth Kingdom.

When on the ship, Kasumi announced that it was time for introductions and a drunk looking man stepped up and introduced himself as Asad Boder, an Earth Bender. When he finished his introduction, Xue stepped up with her heart in her throat.

"I suppose there's no use in postponing the inevitable." She began, crossing her arms over her chest in feigned nonchalance despite the hammering in her chest. "My name is Xue Zamora and I am a skilled chi-blocker. I've worked with elite chi-blocking generals during my time in the resistance and I know how they think. Go ahead and yell at me, attack me if you want, I don't really care. But you need me if you want to be successful so choose carefully." Xue shrugged and walked over to a barrel a few steps away from the group and sat down.

"Hold on, do I make a left at the iceberg or a right? Uhhg... friggen Nothpole."

"Damnit," Jin grumbled to himself as he trudged through ankle deep snow. He pulled his coat around himself a little tighter; the shiny black dragon scales adorning it did a good job if blocking out the blistering cold. In his hands he clutched an old weathered, wet piece of parchment; a map. He'd been traveling on foot for the last few days.

The North was truly a cold and unforgiving mistress. She had battered him this way and that and provided him with nothing he needed to sustain himself. The burning hunger in his stomach may have been the only thing staving off hypothermia.

He stopped for a moment and stretched the map out in front of himself with shakey hands. He rotated it one way and then another trying to get his bearings. He pulled the compass from his pocket but the needle only spun lazily in circles. He was too close to the pole to get a good reading. Still he had a good sense of direction and he was fair sure he was standing in the spot that had been marked on the map. He lowered the map and took a look around. There was snow in every direction as far as the eye could see.

"There's supposed to be a hotsprings here!" he shouted to no one in particular. His voice was little more than a strained rasp.

He crumbled the map, threw it aside, and grumbled curses at the spirits-forsaken con-artist who had sold the worthless scrap to him a few villages back. He marched forward, not knowing where he was headed, only that if he didn't keep moving death was all that he would find.

He'd just gotten through a particularly nasty retrieval job that landed him up north. He'd spent a good deal of his pay on that map... though not nearly as much as he spent on his usual dose of post-job debauchery. Point is he was broke. Even if he could somehow find civilization and keep from freezing to death in this tundra, it would only be to starve to death a few days later. Still Jin would take starvation over being a human popsicle anyday. He trudged onward.

Eventually, on the horizon he saw a very large village which he soon identified as the Northern Water Tribe's capital. There was a group of people standing at it's gates. The group seemed pretty eclectic. One looked to be a Earth Kingdom guy, one was dressed like a chi blocker, one had the distinctive stance of a fire bender, and 'hold on,' he through to himself 'is that an air nomad?' From what he could make out as he marched closer, they were waiting for something. None of them were interacting with each other much. They seemed to be perfect strangers. 'They're not friends,' he thought. 'they're... they're working a job.' Whatever that group was up to Jin wanted in on it. After all it had to be a pretty important -- high paying -- gig to pull together a group like that. Another payday was just what he needed.

As Jin neared the others he decided to see if he could slip in amongst them without raising any eyebrows.

"Whew, it's cold out huh?" Jin said to the air nomad once he reached the pack. "I'm going to have to cut off the few toes I have left if we don't get somewhere warm soon." He threw his head back and chuckled heartily while casting quick glances at the others to gauge if they found his presence odd or not. His eyes lingered a for just a moment on the chi blocker. "Right? This guy knows what I mean," he said slapping the Earther on the back.

At that point Jin wanted to be quiet, maybe fade into the shadows, but his mouth had started working on it's own. "I'm just so glad to be a part of this team... I mean, what we're doing... it's going to change everything!"

Now if only he could figure out what the hell that was.

The first hint came to him in the form a girl riding atop a polar bear dog. She looked oddly familiar... in fact he could have sworn he'd seen her before... Yes that was it. She was the Avatar. As luck would have it the two of them met long ago. The Nothern Water Tribe had hired a bunch of his clan members to do some job or another. He was too young to do the work, or even be told what it was, so he was stranded in the village while the grown ups had all the fun. During that time he met Kasumi. The two of them didn't spend much time together, or exchange many words, but he was sure he'd made a lasting impression.

He was expecting her to hop off her bear at the sight of him, run over, and give him a heart felt hug, maybe with tears of joy cascading down her cute cheeks, but what really happened was a little less than that. She introduced herself and headed off towards the ship docked nearby.

He followed sheepishly.

When she asked for introductions he watched a few others go before himself. When he felt it was his turn he stepped forward, and said: "I am Jin Kaza, fighter, lover, and mercenary extraordinaire, once again at your service." He sunk into a deep bow, grabbed her hand, and gave the back of it a gentle kiss. He waited a beat and then returned to where he had stood before.

Eris Kiyoko

Eris sat silently watching her new companions carefully.

"Okay. As I said before, I am the Avatar, Kasumi is what I prefer to be called. You guys are?"
She wanted to gather as much information as she could before she was forced to give her own introduction.

A handsome yet scruffy man stood and began the introductions.

"My name is Asad Boder, and I am known for many things. What you need to know is my ability to bend Earth is rivaled by few, maybe even none, and my skill with a blade is nothing to underestimate." He said. She felt a flare of competition for a moment. She wanted to challenge him, just to test his words, and her abilities.

Next came a fairly beautiful woman.

"My name is Xue Zamora and I am a skilled chi-blocker. I've worked with elite chi-blocking generals during my time in the resistance and I know how they think. Go ahead and yell at me, attack me if you want, I don't really care. But you need me if you want to be successful so choose carefully." She said. Eris couldn’t help but feel bad for the woman…she seemed to have had to take a lot of bull for her previous choices.

“Everyone makes mistakes…” Eris murmured as she watched the girl walk over to a barrel and sat.

Last, an attractive man who seemed very flamboyant and cheerful. She couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm.

"I am Jin Kaza, fighter, lover, and mercenary extraordinaire, once again at your service” He said. Charming, that one was she said with a smile.

Finally, she stood, knowing it was her turn to introduce herself.

“Hello” She paused as she bowed deeply to Kasumi

“My name is Eris Kiyoko of the fire nation, it is a pleasure to be in your service Avatar Kasumi, my life is yours to use as needed...” She paused again as she turned and bowed to each of her new companions.

“And a pleasure to meet you all” Eris said with a kind smile. She straightened, still smiling, and sat.

Keirin watched completely passive as he stared at the beautiful young girl who was standing in front of him. He stared in silent awe at how beautiful she was. In his mind, he smiled, but he needed to keep his composure in order to complete his mission of training the Avatar. He listened as all of the others mentioned their names and where they came from. It seemed he was destined to be last. So, he stood up for everyone to see and spoke.

"Hello. My name is Keirin Hyungha of the Air Nomads. I am to be your teacher for the time being. I hope you can learn many things from me." He bowed as he said those words. He tried to sound as professional as possible because he didn't want the others to think of him as weak. He most definitely was not, and keeping the professional image in front of them was key to show that he was determined to do this job and perfect the Avatar's air bending skills. He was thankful that he was the one to train the Avatar when he knew that his skills were not exactly stellar. Well, he believed they weren't stellar even though people told him that he was among the best. He sighed as he sat down on the ground. Now, all he had to do now was wait for the Avatar to give a response to each and every one of the people standing before her.

Kasumi eyes fluttered towards the first person who was introducing himself. It was Asad, who appeared much older than the last time they had seen each other. He had a face full of hair and her ears twitched when he spoke about speaking with her in private. She nodded her head softly towards his way then shot a glance at the Chi Blocker who had started to introduce herself next. Kasumi wanted to stop her from talking and tell her that she needed to go last but she was suppose to keep the peace and not start anything amongst her mentors - But when the Chi Blocker was like yell at me, attack me or whatever you want and she wouldn't care, Kasumi fists clenched as the boat rocked a little.

She stood her ground but the boat rocked because it was finally setting sail. Kasumi eyed Xue and sighed. "No one is going to yell or attack you. You have my word." She smiled then eyed everyone else while pointing towards Xue. "If anyone touch or attack her, I'll throw you off this boat. I don't care where we are. Got it?" She waited for everyone's response before continuing with their introductions.

Next was Jin, oh, did puberty do him some good. She smiled cutely then shied away from him for awhile. He was always the charming kind of guy but she was young and never understood many things back then but now, she knew a lot. His introduction made her chuckle like a little schoolgirl but then she straightened up when he bowed and grabbed a hold of her hand, kissing the back of it. Kasumi blushed then winked towards Jin as her eyes fell upon the next mentor.

It was Eris. Her introduction was short. She kind of hated short introductions but she smiled towards Eris. "It's a pleasure to see you again, Eris." She then walked over towards the Airbender then heard his introduction, which was also short and not very amusing. She quirked her lips to the side as she turned heel and walked a few distances between then. "It's a pleasure to see you guys again though most of you look way better than you use to. I hope to learn all I can from you and much more." Kasumi smiled then turned her attention towards Asad. "You wish to speak to me in private?" She didn't need an answer to that question since he had stated it earlier than he indeed needed to speak with her. "Follow me, please."

Kasumi would lead him through a series of doors and finally into her room on the ship. She would hold the door open for Asad to enter then close it and walk over to her desk, where she pulled the chair out for Asad while she sat down on the edge of her bed. "So, what's on your mind?" She raised a delicate brow while leaning forward. "Oh, by the way, don't tell anyone how my room looks." She would laugh but she tried to lighten the mood in the atmosphere.

"Will she believe me? Or will she be cut down when she tries to apprehend me?"

As requested, Asad followed Kasumi through the ship after giving a sort of half-wave to the rest of the group. If he were to be with them, he decided to at least be friendly enough to acknowledge them. Once he got on the boat, however, he felt very uneasy. He never liked boats. The way they rock on the waters always made him a bit paranoid that it would just tip over and sink. He was a sitting duck when it came to water with no earth to bend. So naturally with this fear, he was a bit hesitant as he navigated the path to her room. Being hung over really did not help as he practically hugged the walls.

Once they made it to her room, he nodded his head in thanks for her holding the door open for him. Taking the chair she pulled out, he turned it around so that the back of the chair was pressed against his chest and his legs were on either side of the seat. He placed himself in the chair with a heavy groan as he closed his eyes for a brief moment, enjoying the reprieve from being on his feet. Once he opened his eyes, he took a look around the room as if wondering why she wanted to keep its presence a secret. Perhaps it was because he had not had a room of his own for years, but this one looked just fine to him.

"Very well, Avatar Kasumi. I will keep the state of your room in secret. In return, I would like for you to trust everything I am going to say right now." He paused for a moment, trying to think of a way to word this without giving away every detail. Giving all of the details would have been unnecessary, so there was no reason to do it. "I have changed since we last met so many years ago. I am no longer a highly-regarded swordsman and bender. Now I am a wanted man in the Earth Kingdom. I am convicted of a crime I did not commit. They believe I murdered an important man I was issued to protect. But I give you my word that I did not kill this man. I failed to protect him. And I am on a quest to find his killer, as well as help you, to bring him to justice."

The next part of his speech was the one he was not looking forward to. "My standing is on the line here. You know I am a wanted man. So you have two options." His tone, however naturally dark, seemed abnormally calm for someone in his position. "You can take me with you and let me teach you to bend the earth while allowing me to pursue my own quest as well... or you can attempt to turn me in. But neither of us will like the result of that... This is not a threat, but a warning. I will not let anything stand in my way." The hung over man stopped to take a breath as the boat rocked a little bit with the water's current. His expression turned grim and his face paled just a little bit. He absolutely hated boats. "K... Oh goodness... Keep me with you, and I will make you a master of Earthbending. I will do my best not to attract attention and disguise myself properly. We will help each other with our quests. The man would extend a tanned hand out to the Avatar, hoping that the one meant to keep peace would be understanding of his position and take his word. It was best to get this out of the way early rather than have her figure out later and have to explain the situation on less-than-great terms. "Is it a deal, Avatar Kasumi?"

Xue couldn't help but feel more than a little shocked when no one stepped forward to take her up on her offer and attack her, even more so when the Avatar herself defended the chi-blocker. Her eyes widened a bit, but she quickly masked her surprise and allowed everyone else to go through their introductions. Besides Kasumi and the earth bender, Asad, there was a silver haired weapons master named Jin whom she didn't recall hearing about during her debriefing when she was contacted to assist the Avatar, a small Fire Nation girl named Eris and an air nomad. Xue raised an eyebrow when Keirin, the air bender, introduced himself; she had never before met an air nomad, though she wasn't entirely surprised that there would be one in the Avatar's party.

When the introductions finished, Asad and Kasumi went off to speak of something privately and Xue found herself amongst three complete strangers, two of which were benders. Feeling suddenly uncomfortable, but not knowing where her own quarters were and thus not having a place to go to escape the awkward situation, Xue stood and scooted the barrel closer to the rim of the ship and then sat back on it, facing the ocean. 'Maybe if I ignore them they'll go away.' She thought dismally, looking out onto the chilly sea.

As he heard Jin whisper in his ear, "Ooh, she totally wants me," he got very annoyed. People who only looked to others as objects were pathetic. He just closed his eyes and just sat there. When he heard Xue move over to the railing, he opened one of his eyes and looked in her direction. He realized that the Avatar had told him not to touch her or attack her, but he just couldn't trust her. She had worked with the enemy and despite how she introduced herself, it didn't prove her to be any less traitorous. He was however interested in why she had raised an eyebrow when he introduced himself. He caught it just before he sat down and was slightly surprised at her reation. Maybe she had a thing for him, but he honestly didn't care. He was not about to become friends with a potential enemy. After he saw Jin walk over to her, he bet he was going to try and hit on her. He rolled his eye as he saw him give a grin as he said something to her and he honestly didn't care what he said.

He wondered what Asad might have to tell the Avatar, Kasumi, and why it was so important. It seemed like a pressing matter from the way he outright stated it in front of everyone. Kasumi also seemed to know him since they were little. Not that he cared what his relationship was with her, but he thought it might prove as useful information for a later date. Maybe he was going to confess or something... He smiled and let out a little chuckle as he thought of this. No... He was sure he wasn't childish enough to do that now... But, he couldn't help but be curious. After all that thought and the little laugh, he closed his eye and waited until he was instructed to do otherwise.

He closed his eye and then proceeded to just sit and wait until he was instructed to do otherwise.

Eris Kiyoko

Eris sighed as she watched the Avatar and Asad walk away, and Jin and Xue find themselves a corner. It seemed everyone was hitting it off famously except for her…then again, to be fair, her introduction had been a little short and to the point. She supposed she hadn’t left a lot of room for conversation there. She did want to get to know the group but honestly wasn’t sure how to begin. She had spent so much time on her own she wondered if she even had acceptable social skills any more…and her being a fire bender did not help as she found a lot of people did not seem to appreciate her element simply because they assumed she was hot headed and rude.

Eris tugged at the ribbon holding her hair up and let it fall around her shoulders, intending on braiding it. She liked it down but knew it made her look more petite and girlish…basically as if she was no threat. She sighed and tugged her hair, a nervous habit of hers.

Eris’s stomach rocked with the boat. She hated water…well less hate, more fear. She knew how to swim but she also knew it was only so long before she could drown. She turned to the air bender and smiled kindly.

“Hello, Keirin was it?” Eris questioned even though she was sure she was correct. She distinctly remembered his introduction because of his complete calm. She almost envied him for it.

“It seems we have quite a charmer on the boat” She commented with a small smile as she watched Jin in the corner with Xue. She wondered how the whole situation would play out.

She kind of felt bad for the girl. Xue practically had a ‘Go away’ sign tattooed on her forehead and Jin just didn’t seem to get it. She wondered for a moment if she should try and rescue Xue, then realized it would probably be unwelcome. Xue could take care of herself obviously.

“Then again, she is very pretty. And courageous for admitting where her previous allegiance was….I feel as though she will make a good ally when the time to fight comes.” Eris said almost absent mindedly.

The boat rocked once again. Eris clenched her fists on the table, her nails biting into her hands, and a moment of paralyzing terror sweeping over her. She took a deep breath and relaxed her hands and forced a smile on her face.

Kasumi was at a lost for words after hearing what Asad had just said. Her heart was racing at that very moment and she didn't know what to think. Was Asad telling her the truth or was it all a lie? She was to protect the nations from a malicious group, not one person from his own nation. A soft sigh escaped through her lips as he kept on talking about killing the male that had killed his master. Her eyes rolled as she lifted herself up off of the bed then she stood in front of him.

"As much as I hate to say this..." Kasumi held back a breath for a few moments then exhaled while continuing. "But can't you just let it go. I mean, if we go to the Earth Kingdom and they capture you..." She raised a hand up to rub at her temple because she wasn't ready to deal with all of this drama so soon. Someone else's drama anyone. She sighed once more while shaking her head. "You got a deal." She didn't want to do it because she felt like she had made a deal with the devil.

She raised one of her delicate brows up at him then parted her lips to speak once again. "So, is there any other important business matter I should know about?" She asked him a little harshly while walking over and staring out of her porthole, wrapping her arms around herself as she did so.

Eris Kiyoko

"Maybe that's exactly what she wants us to think. I have no intention of harming her, but I can't simply blindly put trust in someone I have just met. Especially when they previously worked alongside our enemy. I suggest you do the same."

Eris hesitated. She was slightly shocked and a little aggravated at the air nomad’s hostility. She never expected someone who seemed so at peace to be so…harsh. She brushed her hair back out of her face and took a moment to collect herself.

"Like I said before; do what you want, I don't care. I can't force you to trust me after all that I've done, but whether or not you trust me doesn't change the fact that I'm here. Besides, I would be lying if I said that I trust all of you as well." Xue said then turned and ignored them. It was for the best.

“I am Kind of disappointed….” She murmured.
Eris studied the air nomad for a moment. She summoned her fire; it danced along her fingertips for a moment then burned a symbol into the wood.

“Keirin do you know what this means?” She asked with a kind smile.

“It’s the symbol of an all-female crime syndicate in the fire nation called the Red Butterflies…Beautiful and deadly, they rule the underground of the fire nation.” She paused, gathering her thoughts.

“Believe it or not I was raised by Earthbenders…up until age thirteen I thought I myself was an earthbender….until I burned down half my village. Needless to say I was no longer welcome there. Not long after I found myself in the fire nation starving, alone, scared…I was taken in by the Red Butterflies. They trained me in the ways of Firebending, They were my family for a long time…” She said. She took a deep breath and let it out.

“You never know what you’ll do to not lose the people you love until your loyalty is tested. For them I did some things that I will never be able to make up for…” Eris said quietly as memories flooded back to her. She shook her head and brought herself back to the present.

“I am not proud of myself or the things I’ve done. I have seen the darkest depths of the human soul and I have seen true human kindness…You may think me naive…but I apologize I am not willing to spend my entire life looking at people as if there is only evil in them…” Eris said as she stood slowly.

“It was a pleasure talking to you Keirin…” She said quietly before she stood.

She giggled as she watched Asad fall and offer a drink to all of them, though she declined and headed to the far side of the deck.

Keirin listened to Eris as she explained what had happened to her in the past and how disappointed she was in him. He felt like a horrible person, but it wasn't a feeling he wasn't used to. This time was different though. It actually felt like this emotion was physically hurting him. His head felt light and his body felt heavy. His heart hurt and as he looked as Eris, he felt that she was viewing him as pathetic. He believed what she said to be true. He was sure that she felt horrible for burning down half her village, probably killing tons of people. The thing that hurt the most though was when she had politely excused herself after telling him off.

He watched as Asad stumbled onto the deck, from what Keirin figured, he was drunk. He was holding a gourd and when Jin walked over and took a swig, he knew that they were drunk. He didn't even look at them, partly because he was ashamed of himself.

Keirin sighed. He realized it would have been better if he said nothing because he was now being viewed as a bad person. He just sat as he tried to calm down. Besides the fact that the Eris girl had just told him her life story, he didn't want to talk about his. He may have lived a happier life, but he didn't care. His morals were his morals, and Eris' morals were Eris' morals. That's just how the world was. One person will never have the same view of life because no two people are the same. His most recent master had taught him that. Keirin decided that he should apologize for the way he had spoken to everyone. It was extremely rude and uncalled for. He wanted to be viewed as the mature person, but it was obvious he was not.

Keirin slowly stood up. He walked over Xue and stopped. He had no idea what to say. Then something quietly escaped his mouth. "I'm... Sorry." He was surprised that the words escaped his mouth. He started to panic. People are going to view me as a weak person. I can't have that. I have to keep the mature image in order to continue with this mission. Without realizing it, he had jumped into the air about fifty feet. He then sat on one of the masts up above everyone else where he couldn't hear them. He sat there and closed his eyes as he mentally scolded himself about what he said. But... Did I really mean that? I really don't trust her... Why did I say that? He clenched his hands into fists and wanted to hit himself. He then unclenched them and told himself that if they wanted an explanation that he would tell them when they got off the boat. He would have to explain his actions to Avatar Kasumi though, which worried him because he may be viewed as weak in her eyes for conceding to Xue. He just took deep breaths and sat there on the mast, thinking how he might handle the situation later.

Xue had successfully managed to tune out most of the ramblings of the weapons master, but when he spoke of 'handling' Keirin the corners of her lips twitched in an almost smile. "I don't think that would be the best idea, but thank you for the offer." She said, her tone holding the slightest bit of sarcasm though the gratitude wasn't entirely insincere. Truth be told, Xue wasn't expecting so much support as she was getting, first from the Avatar, then the fire bender, and finally Jin. The earth bender, Asad, hadn't done anything in support, but he hadn't spoken against her either.

"Good lord, what ever he has in there I need a sip. As do you Xue, you need to loosen up some."

She turned her body to see what Jin was speaking of just as Asad staggered over to where they were gathered, fell, and then shakily sat himself on a crate. Both the fire bender and Jin gravitated towards the drunk man and Xue, against her better judgment, followed suit. The fire bender declined a drink and moved to the far side of the deck, but Jin took up Asad's offer happily and took a large gulp. The drink seemed to have taken effect rather quickly and Jin attempted to sit beside Asad only to fall down and give way to a fit of giggles. Xue curled her lip in disgust at the display, two grown men giggling and stumbling about like children. Not only that, but they were willingly numbing their own senses, leaving themselves incredibly vulnerable to attack.

Still...would it be so bad to take a small sip? Xue was more than a little stressed, she could feel the dark tendrils of anxiety curling in her chest and finally decided that she would take a tiny sip, just enough to calm her nerves, and then that would be it. Quickly, before she could realize what she was doing and stop herself, Xue snatched the gourd from Jin's outstretched hand with a huff, and taking a tiny sip. The foul drink burned all the way down and the chi blocker cringed and gave the gourd back to Asad.

Despite not taking much, the drink was strong and her vision was blurred at the edges. Xue was already beginning to regret her decision. With a sigh, she stood and half-stumbled over to the fire bender to have a few words but was shocked to see that the air bender, Keirin had approached her.

"I'm... Sorry."

Keirin looked about as shocked about the words that came out as Xue was. Xue saw a look of panic cross his features and before she could open her mouth to say something, Keirin was no longer there. She turned her head about to look for him but didn't see him anywhere on the deck. Xue knitted her brows and looked up into the air to see that the air bender was sitting atop one of the masts. If she were anyone else she may have laughed, but she was confused, dizzy, and slightly drunk so she turned back to speak with the fire bender as she originally intended.

"Eris, correct?" Xue began, allowing a bit of timidness into her voice. "I heard what you said to the air bender. Thank you for standing up for me, but I don't want you fighting my battles." She shivered against the breeze coming off of the water and pulled her jacket tighter around her, swaying slightly from both the motion of the ship and the alcohol in her system.

Eris Kiyoko

Eris was twirling fire on her fingers, a stress relieving habit she had picked up from her years with the Fire Butterflies. She watched the flame dance and skip across her hands with a small smile. She loved fire, it was so beautiful and free, but had some deep regretful feelings about being a fire bender.

Xue approached her and Eris smelled alcohol on her breath. She sighed and knew what was coming next.

"Eris, correct? I heard what you said to the air bender. Thank you for standing up for me, but I don't want you fighting my battles." Xue said. Eris felt a slight flash of irritation but she brushed it off. This girl was used to fighting for herself, and Eris understood. Eris turned and looked Xue in the eyes.

“Believe it or not Xue,” She paused, noting Xue’s shiver. She expanded the fire in her hands, sending the heat towards the girl.

“I did not do it for you. I simply stated my opinion.” Eris said as she looked out at the sea with a sad sigh.

“It is sad to see people have become so jaded and cynical. We are all comrades now, and if we do not have trust, we do not have anything” Eris said as she glanced up at the air nomad sitting on a post fifty feet up or so. She felt a twinge of sadness as she realized she had drove him to sit up on his own.

“I know everyone here has a story…and I feel as though you should not judge from past decisions but from current actions." She said with a kind smile as the wind whipped her hair around her.

She grabbed the railing with one hand nervously as the boat rocked. She had a rolling wave of fear that she pushed back.

"...but if you wish, on matters that involve you, I will keep my opinion to myself" Eris said, still smiling kindly, though it was sort of strained.

Kasumi parted her lips to speak but saw that Asad had left her room before she could even say anything. Her eyes rolled as she sighed softly and slumped down in her bed a little bit but jumped up when a crewman entered. "Oh, sorry, I was told to come and check on you." The crewman said as he leaned against the door. "Oh, I am fine, Kalen." Kasumi stated while waving him away as he nodded his head before departing but opened back up immediately. "Oh, I think the deck's on fire." Her eyes widened as she burst through the door, nearly killing the crewman.

She ran all the way up to the deck then shouted. "Eris, what the hell are you doing?!" The waves rocked harshly from side to side as she shouted. Her fists clenched as she stared at Eris then sniffed the air after the soft breeze blew through the deck of the boat. "Are you guys drinking?!" Her eyes fell immediately upon Asad as she stormed over towards him. "Just because you're a drunken mess, don't make everyone follow your ways." She sighed then raised her hand up to rub her temple. She felt like she was going to faint but held on to the railing of the boat.

"I am extremely disappointed in all of you already." Kasumi said harshly while placing her eyes on every single one of her so called mentors. She looked at them then walked towards the front of the boat, arms folded over her chest as she let out a huff. She didn't really want neither of them to talking to her right now but she knew at least one of them was going to try.

"Good grief."

It would seem the Avatar was not pleased with what the others had done, and took it upon herself to blame the rounin called Asad. The man, not quite drunk yet, gazed over at her as she stormed off. She was clearly peeved, but he was not one to just allow people to blame him for things that were not his fault. "Avatar Kasumi." He spoke out her name as he stood up. He gave Jin a pat on the shoulder and wavered in his first step. "Damn this boat... all boats... As if a hangover was not enough..." He mumbles this to himself upset and manages his way over to Kasumi. He stood at the rail of the boat nearest her, attempting to hold in his breakfast as he could now see the waters knocking against the boat below him. "Ugh... I'm almost looking forward to being in the Earth Kingdom at this rate." Hopefully that joke would help lighten her mood a bit.

"Avatar Kasumi. You must understand. I was just taking a sip to help my hangover. Everyone else was right there. Offering them a drink was the only polite option. I refuse to be like a king who feasts in front of the poor, if you will accept that analogy. I did not expect her to be so weak to the liquor." Though it was strong stuff. Had his head been more clear, he probably would have noticed that. Jin seemed to handle it well enough, so he made a note that this was someone he could share with for certain in the future. "I did not force anyone to drink, or even pressure anyone. That is not my way. I apologize for any problems it has created. I will look after the Chi Blocker until she sobers up."

Before waiting for an answer from the probably still-agitated Avatar, he made his way back to the crate and took a small sip from his gourd again. His eyes strayed between the Chi Blocker, the planks that made up the deck, and his own gourd. "The Avatar is not too happy with me, I think. Groups are weird. I am much too accustomed to being a loner." He says this to Jin before letting out a bellowing laugh as though he had said the funniest joke in the world. He was much more animated in this moment than he had been the entire time. After settling, he let out a quick breath and tapped the bottom of the gourd to Jin as he passed it off. "Sip small. It is strong stuff. I am sure you felt that burn from before... It's the second-strongest stuff I have."

Eris Kiyoko

"Eris, what the hell are you doing?!" Avatar Kasumi yelled as she stormed over to her. Eris was in shock for a moment then she felt fury take over. What was SHE doing? Trying to avoid a fight and make peace between the group. She was trying to keep the group from falling apart before it even started… trying to make sure the Avatar even had a group to learn from…and apparently yell at as she pleased! The fire in her hands leapt to a new high as she felt her anger rise.

Eris watched Avatar Kasumi lay into the others who were drinking then walk away. Eris took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself but felt it failing. She had been very patient and calm with everyone for the past hour or so but she was getting fed up with the childishness that seemed to surround her. She had expected more from the Avatar.

“Are you kidding me?!” She bit out as she squelched the fire in her hand and started after the avatar, ready to give the girl a piece of her mind. Eris could care less that she was the avatar, she could at least show some respect to the lot of them…even if they where being drunken fools.

Eris stopped short as she noticed Asad had beaten her to Avatar Kasumi. She considered going over there anyways but felt she did not want a show for what she had to say to the girl.

Eris sighed and turned to go back to the far railing of the boat knowing that it was for the best. She didn’t want to be kicked out of the group because she had a short temper…and it was best to have conversations like the one she had in mind in a calm state of being.

Eris reached the railing and felt a little calmer. She supposed the damage to the boat was a viable reason to be upset though she did not agree with the way the girl handled it. The Avatar was supposed to be the center of calm and balance…it was obvious the Avatar had a ways to go.

Eris shook her head and looked out to sea. The rolling waves made her a little sick to her stomach and she wished she could just be shown to her room so she could sleep off her nausea and irritation. She hoped they reached land soon and she hoped the group found its footing together , so to speak, soon.

“It is sad to see people have become so jaded and cynical. We are all comrades now, and if we do not have trust, we do not have anything. I know everyone here has a story…and I feel as though you should not judge from past decisions but from current actions."

Xue nodded, her eyes flickering from Eris' face, to Keirin, and finally resting on the water that was becoming more turbulent as the night wore on. She mirrored Eris' movement to grab the railing when the boat rocked with a more persistent wave. Though Xue didn't have much experience with boats, apart from the few times that she had used smuggling vessels to sneak into island villages as night with her purging party, she wasn't one to get seasick and was doing better than others.

Eris spoke again, and Xue turned her attention back to the fire bender's somewhat forced smile, "...but if you wish, on matters that involve you, I will keep my opinion to myself"

Xue chuckled and responded with a small smile, "Well, I can't keep you from expressing your opinions. But I just... ah, I don't know, I guess I just don't want any sympathy and that's what it feels like." She shrugged and sent a glance up towards Keirin again. Despite his words, Xue did appreciate his honesty and she understood what he was saying. She felt a twinge in her heart like she should call him down but decided against it.

A shout turned her attention back to the deck and she saw a fuming Avatar Kasumi standing with her fists clenched at her sides. She yelled at Eris before turning her fury towards Asad. Xue grabbed the railing once more as the waves rocked the boat violently in response to Kasumi's outburst.

Xue kept herself quiet during the ordeal though she wanted to defend herself against the accusations. She knew if she stepped out of hand the tables could be turned quite rapidly due to her past as a chi blocker. There was no use in directing more distrust and suspicion towards herself over a misunderstanding.

Asad quickly took control of the situation and attempted to explain what was going on to the angry Avatar. His explanation was calm and well put, though Xue was confused about which female he was apologizing for who was so 'weak to the liquor'. Kasumi had yelled at Eris who hadn't had anything to drink, and Xue herself had only had a sip and the side effects were very minor. Asad somewhat cleared it up when he said that he would 'look after the chi blocker' and Xue's cheeks reddened with the realization. "I didn't do anything," she complained under her breath, but didn't openly protest to what Asad was saying, hoping only for a quick resolution.

Xue turned her eyes to Eris who had looked furious in response to being yelled at, but was slowly calming down as she returned to the railing of the ship. The silence was awkward between them and Xue considered walking back to Jin and Asad. Instead, she decided that if Eris wanted to be alone, she would tell her. Xue sighed and rested her chin against her arms on the railing. She opened her mouth to speak when Jin rose and began to talk. She turned around, leaning her back against the rail and put on her best poker face while she listened.

Half of his words she couldn't hear over the water, but she could catch his meaning and, despite her best attempts to keep it down, she couldn't help but smile a bit when he mentioned trusting her. Xue listened to the rest of the speech silently, and then watched with mild curiosity as Jin embedded daggers blade-up in the planks of the ship and then began tight roping above them. It wasn't until just before he began his descent that it clicked in Xue's mind what Jin's intentions were. She tensed, knowing that she was too far away to do anything to help, and watched silently to see what would happen.

Keirin sat on the mast as he listened to the crashing waves. It was calming and he realized that he should hop down sometime soon. As soon as he thought that, he heard some sort of yell. He opened his eyes and saw Kasumi yelling at the others, it seemed like it was directed at Asad and Eris. From the looks of it, he had missed Eris burning part of the deck.

As he saw them being yelled at, he felt responsible for this. If he had not opened his mouth, none of the events that just happened would have occurred. He had decided that he was going to jump down, when he suddenly saw Avatar Kasumi walk over to the railing in a huff. He decided that was his chance to talk, but before he jumped down, he saw Asad and Eris both walking over. Asad beat Eris and a good thing because it looked like a fight would've broken out if Eris had made it first. It seemed like Asad had calmed Avatar Kasumi down quite a bit. He watched as Asad had walked back and it seemed like Jin had started to make a large speech.

He watched Jin, trying to make out what he was saying. Then when he could tell he was talking to him, he listened even more intently. It seemed like Jin was telling him he could come down when he was ready. He felt anger growing inside him but he subsided it because he thought Jin was trying to make an effort to be nice to him. Then he watched as Jin put some daggers face-up in the deck. What is he planning? Then he saw him walk in front of them and act like he was going to fall onto them. WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING?!?!

Keirin jumped down onto the deck, ready to use his bending to catch him. He saw Avatar Kasumi standing in front of him, but he had no idea if she might freeze up and not catch him, so he was there for support just in case. He got ready to use his bending to increase his speed to catch Jin.
