Introduction

Introduction:

“Welcome to the town of Aurora!” the sign post will forever be burned into your memory. It doesn't matter how you got here or why. It makes no difference if you moved here a few weeks ago or if you have been here your whole life. You will always remember the day you got here and wonder what possessed you to stay. Be it destiny or coincidence, you happen to be here when everything goes wrong.
What the population doesn't know is that a very sick man was transported to the local hospital just a few weeks past. Whatever he has, it has the doctors stumped. He only has a short while left on this earth, they can't combat his sickness, he is doomed. His doom will seal the doom of everyone in Aurora. The second his heart stopped, the tragedy of Aurora began.
Whatever he had, it didn't let him stay dead, and its contagious. So contagious that the slightest scratch, or bite passes it on. They get the same disease, slowly killing them from the inside. The time varies from person to person, they could have weeks left, days, or maybe just hours. When their hearts stop, they join the hordes of walking corpses. At first glance they look human, but they are mindless, soulless monsters. They have only one human instinct left, the need to feed.
They will eat anything they can get their hands on, anything alive...and that means you.
It doesn’t matter how you got to Aurora or why, the real question is can you get out alive?

Information:

Your story begins the day before the outbreak. Surviving in Aurora is going to be difficult, here is some information that might just keep you alive.

Major Places in Aurora:

Image

Freeman Medical Center:
This was once the top rated hospital in the county. Many patients have been sent here when lesser hospitals couldn't treat them. It makes sense that a man with a incurable disease would be sent to Freeman for treatment. As soon as the virus sets in, this place is the first to be slaughtered. It is soon crawling with mindless, flesh-hungry monstrosities. Going here after the outbreak is most certainly a death wish. However for the right party, or brave soul this could be a great asset full of untouched medical supplies. Stay clear unless you have the skills and resources to take on horde after horde of undead.

Image

Town and Country Supermarket
This was once the main place for shopping in the small bumbling town of Aurora. With all the people in this Walmart like grocery store it can be easily concluded that one bite turned the place to chaos. Chock full of supplies you will have to be quick to loot it, because everyone is thinking about the shelves upon shelves of food and necessities that it contains. Not only will you have to watch your back from the undead lining the aisles but from the other survivors who think they need food more than you and will do anything to obtain it.

Image

Aurora Police Department
The Aurora Police Department has never gotten much business. The occasional shoplifter or teenager after curfew is as much action as these men ever get to handle. This has not been the case since the outbreak. The few cells that it has have been filled to the brim with people who have been bitten and not yet turned. The APD is now abandoned and could have guns and ammunition, or it could just have lots of starving crazed people, desperate to do anything to escape.

Image

James D. Wilcox Middle School
Nowhere was safe after the outbreak, the local middle school is no exception. These poor defenseless kids are trapped in it's isolated walls. Will you brave the long dark hallways looking for your loved ones that could be trapped inside? Or will you only find they have been turned into high speed flesh eaters with faces of the children you once loved?

Down Town
The smell of dirt, grime, trash and now rotting flesh fills these slummy streets. Home to some shady businesses such as Bert N' Ernie's, this is the sort of place you might meet some “interesting characters” who still have a heartbeat.

Image

Bert N' Ernie's Pawn Shop
This pawn shop is located in the down town area, and has seen it's share of shady customers. It goes without saying that over half of the merchandise they have is stolen. The only thing Bert and Ernie are better at than buying stuff for cheap and selling it for more, is keeping secrets. So weapons are no stranger to Bert N' Ernie's walls. Just keep in mind that the history of any weapon you get from them might be a little on the gruesome side.

Image

Hermit's Hardware Store
Part of the strip mall with the supermarket, Hermit's Hardware Store gets a good bit of business. From supplies to fix your house all the way to dog food in bulk, Mr. Hermit sells it all. With an open mind you'll be tinkering your way to many zombie killing contraptions.

Suburbia
Soccer mom's and carpools are not uncommon here. These middle class citizens are doing better than some, but not as well as they would like. Temporary salvation might be found within these cute two story family homes, alongside some useful supplies. Just beware those blue collar zombies looking to work not so hard for their next snack.

Image

Aleckzandur's Junk Yard
His mother may have never taught him how to spell (as she never learned herself), but Aleckzandur knows his way around an engine. You might find a car worth repairing in this lot of broken junk, but more likely you are just going to find yourself lost in this zombie infested labyrinth of scrap metal.

Image

John Bentley Public Park
Once filled with the shrill laughter of small children, John Bentley Park is now eerily quiet. Nothing but the squeaking of empty swings remains. One might find shelter in the play towers, or find a hot meal at the grills and picnic tables. Just be careful your fires don't attract some unwelcome guests.

Image

Aurora Town Hall
The place of official business in Aurora. It used to be the beacon of hope for the citizens of Aurora, now the white marble halls are now stained red. With it's open door policy, you can stop by any time, and who knows, you might even get to meet the mayor! Lucky you...

Image

Aurora Museum of Human History
Not so popular among the citizens of Aurora, this dusty and semi-abandoned museum has been under some recent reconstruction to attract more visitors. These thick walls seem to be the perfect resting place for survivors. Keep an eye out for the night guard, Stan, he doesn't like people messing with his artifacts.

Image

Monster Mike's Gun Store
With it's creaky sign swaying in the breeze out front, right next to a rusty torpedo, this little building is owned by the beloved town veteran Monster Mike. No one knows how he earned his nickname, the story changes every time he tells it. Despite being out of the Marines for many years, he still has a body fit for the service. Not a soul alive knows more about guns than he does, and now nobody every will.

Image

Moe's “Don't Tell” Motel
If you have been able to avoid getting a virus of any sort so far, your luck has run out. If you have to go anywhere near this establishment you're sure to catch something here. If you're fortunate, that screaming from room 202 is just another average night for Mrs. Davis and one of her “friends”.

<a href="http://s210.photobucket.com/albums/bb16/ScarredAngelofWar/Barely%20Alive/?action=view&amp;current=first_zombie_scratch_practice_by_thequeenofsoap-d4cobjd-Copy.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb16/ScarredAngelofWar/Barely%20Alive/first_zombie_scratch_practice_by_thequeenofsoap-d4cobjd-Copy.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

General Information about the Virus:
It is possible to contract the virus without becoming part of the undead, at least right away. It is only contracted by blood, this means the that any part of the undead comes into contact with your blood stream, through any wound, you are then a carrier of the disease. No wound is safe, any break in the skin, any scratch, any cut is capable of ending your life. The length of time from when you contract the disease, from the time you turn varies from person to person, but the location also has some effect. A bite to a major artery will cause the disease to spread quicker than a lesser one. Also, once you have contracted the disease, anything that causes your death will then cause you to turn.

Image

Killing the Undead:
The virus works by reanimating the brain, however slightly. These corpses only maintain simple motor functions and instincts. The only way to put them down is blunt force trauma to the head or spinal cord.

Image

Avoiding the Undead:
There is no telling where the zombies will be, but there are a few tips that might be able to keep you from facing a horde. Zombies may not be smart, but they do know that where there is noise, there is food. Loud noises will alert the hordes to your whereabouts and they will come to devour you. This means car alarms, radios, shouting, and yes, guns. These weapons might be some of the most useful against a horde, but keep in mind that the noise will alert any zombies within ear shot.

Image

Ammo Limitations:
No gun has unlimited shots, and that being said, ammo can be heavy and limit your mobility. Aurora has been a peaceful town until the undead invaded, so guns and ammo are also extremely hard to come by. Be wary of your ammo supply and capacity and always aim for the head.

Image

The Bare Necessities:
While it would seem that you should always pick a weapon over that can of ravioli, a backpack full of food might be just what you need to stay alive. You can just as easily die of dehydration or starvation as you can by becoming a zombie's lunch. Keep tabs on your rations.

Image

Allies and Enemies:
Will you group up with refugees or stray out on your own? The choice is yours. Keep in mind that not everyone is out looking for friends and you could just as easily be targeted by other humans as you could by zombies. Desperate times call for desperate measures and if you have the supplies someone else is looking for, you might want to watch your back.

Toggle Rules

Rules:

1.Please be kind and courteous of other players. You know the drill, don't kill other characters without first talking in the OOC thread. Don't take control of other player characters ect.
2.Don't submit a character unless you plan on sticking with this. A three day absence from the role play with out any notice or contact with either GM will warrant for your character's certain and... timely demise at the many hands of the zombie horde.
3. Please keep in mind that characters are going to die, if you contract the virus, you will be contacted and have a say in how your character will die. You will then be given the option of playing your character as a zombie, or selecting another character.
4.Just because you submit a character does not mean you will be picked to be a part of the RP. We will pick the characters we think will be the best fit for the RP. Also, this is how we are going to be able to tell what your writing ability looks like. Please take your time as if this were one of your posts.
5.Please take your posts seriously. Do not write just a couple of sentences and think that is supposed to be it. I don't like putting limitations on post length, so use your discretion. Just keep in mind that a good sized post is somewhere between 2 to 5 paragraphs.
6.To let us know you have taken the time to read the rules and the information provided please add your character's favorite food and favorite place in Aurora to hang out to your character skeleton.
7.Keep within the restraints of the setting, this means you cannot find lightsabers for weapons and so on. We as GMs reserve the right veto such discoveries. For example, if you find a gun somewhere a gun should not be, you might be asked to repost. If you do not comply it will result in character death.
8.Please be respectful of the GM's. If we notify you that you need to eat or you are going to starve to death or something to that affect, heed our warning. Failure to do so will result in some lucky zombie NOT starving to death.
9.And lastly... have fun. It is what this is all about after all. If you have any ideas we love feedback, feel free to message either of us.

Feeling a steadily warming feeling in his back Timothy slowly started waking up. He barely opened his eyes and saw the blue of the sky. He tried to remember where he was and It suddenly hit him he was on a roof and why. Timothy closed his eyes and took a deep breath then slowly let it out. He opened his eyes and sat up to look at the surrounding houses. He saw a nearly abandoned street with only two zombies further down. He packed up his backpack and walked down the roof to where his truck was down below. Walking to the edge and jumped off as soon as Timothy hit the ground he started to make his way toward the truck. Looking around for any would be hazard he cautiously made his way to his truck. Reaching the passenger side he pulled out his keys and unlocked the door. Briskly opening it he got inside and closed the door. He locked the door and sat back and closed his eyes. After about 5 minutes he sighed deeply as he realized that if this was happening that he had a long road ahead of him. Opening his eyes he sat up fully and took off his backpack. Timothy moved over into the driver side and thought of what he should do now.

"Shelter or food?" he asked himself after thinking for a few seconds he confidently decided that that shelter is pointless without food. "Closest place near here would probably be the T&C Supermarket" he decided. As quietly as he could Timothy started the car and started to pull out of the yard. He pulled back onto the street and continued the same direction. He got his truck truck cruising a good 35 mph and reached over and turned on the satellite radio. He switched to Robot Radio relaxed to the music and started to cruise to his destination. After cruising for about 15 minutes Timothy saw a a few zombies spaced out along the road up ahead. Starting to come up on the first one the zombie started to register a noise. Timothy easily went around the it and the second before they started to even turn towards him. Timothy was coming up on the last two and thought for a second that they may get it in their head to follow the sound. With that he quickly turned the truck slightly and speed up hitting the last two. The impact killing them instantly with only two solid thumps. He slowed down the car reached over and pulled the bat out of his back pack. He set the bat in the seat and put the truck in reverse. Cruising backwards down the road he lined up the ruck and the closest zombie. He kept the two lined up and after a few second there was a solid thump. Reaching over into the next set he grabbed the bat and slowed the truck to a stop. He then put the engaged the emergency brake and opened the door.

Stepping out of the truck and closing the door he started towards the downed zombie. Feeling his hands begin to get a clammy against the metal of the bat. He swung the bat up and rested it on his shoulder. After walking for a second he came upon the zombie and looked at the state it was in. The zombie was a male around the age of his late twenties. Wearing a white wife-beater and some pants, the zombie had multiple chunks missing from his body. The neck was bent at a very acute backwards indicating that the thing was more than likely fully dead. Timothy shrugged off the odds and walked up to make sure it was dead. As soon as the zombie came in reach Timothy swung down and caved in a portion of the skull. Standing up and stretching a little Timothy turned around and started to make his way towards the last zombie. The zombie had already begun to make its way towards Timothy so he stepped up his pace so he would reach the zombie before it reached his truck. Timothy put the bat back on his shoulder and started stretching a little while he walked. He could see the zombie by now a middle aged man wearing a grey plaid shirt. He could see the damage of the zombie now to, most of the man's arm was cover in bites and a nice sized bite to the man's jugular must have been what put him down. As soon as Timothy came into reach the zombie exploded into action swinging at Timothy with arms. Timothy knocked the zombie's arms aside with his bat and swung down on the zombie's left leg breaking it. The zombie staggered forward and put its weight on its broken leg causing the leg to collapse. The zombie lost its footing and fell forward onto the ground. Timothy stomped down on the zombie's back and swung the bat down twice finishing the confrontation.

Timothy stood up and looked at his work and nodded knowing that that was 4 less that might infect him or someone else. He began to make his way back to his truck and looked up at the street sign nearby. "Hmmm Oak Dr and Emilia St..... So the store is just a few seconds up" nodding reassuringly he confidently continued walking to his truck. Reaching the back of his truck he smiled *Crreeakk* Timothy stopped and looked towards the source of the sound. He found the source the front door of the nearby house opened and in the frame stood a well built male. He had a dark brown shaved head and he wore a white Tshirt some jeans and a backpack. But what caught Timothy's attention was in one had a machete and on the side of his hip was a pistol. Timothy looked up and locked eyes with the man. Timothy nodded once and the man responded with a nod into the direction of the zombies. "Could become a problem for me or someone else later so I dealt with them now." calmly stated Timothy. The man was quiet for a moment as he thought about what Timothy said and nodded once in acknowledgment. "I'm Paul, Got any room?" stated Paul as he motioned towards the truck. "Where you headin?" asked Timothy as he walked around to the passenger side and stopped by the side of the truck. "Wherever your going if you don't mind." said Paul as he started walking towards the truck. "Sure I got the room this situation will be easier with two people" said Timothy as he walked round to the driver side and got into the truck.

Timothy unlocked the doors and started the truck. He waited till Paul got into the truck and started down the road again. When he finally got back into cruising at a comfortable 25 mph he looked over and assessed Paul. "Hmm seems like an all around decent man" Timothy thought as he cruised towards his destination. Timothy reached over and turned down the music a little. "Were heading to the T&C to stock up on food" said Timothy while he looked down at the radio's clock. 12:32 P.M. it glowed "Hmmm I think it would be best to scope it out for a little bit I have some food to hold us." Paul picked his backpack up and opened it. He pulled out two boxes of ceral and set in the seat "Ok so well defiantly be ok food wise" said Timothy while nearing up to the intersection of the store. Timothy started to slow down then pulled off into a yard and turned the truck off. They both open looked around and made sure it was all clear. They both prepared their backpacks so they wouldn't have to come back and put them on. Looking around again to double check that the coast was clear Timothy opened the door and got out of the truck. He shut the door and started to make his way to the side fence of the house. Paul got out and started walking to the side also. Timothy got to the side and climbed up on the garbage can. He looked back to make sure Paul was right behind him and making sure he was Timothy got onto the fence.

He turned and grabbed the side of the roof hoisting himself up and over. Timothy stood up and looked down to check to make sure Paul was proceeding ok. With Paul coming up over the edge Timothy walked to the back of the roof and started checking out what he had. With the store being insight he liked what he saw an easily escapable and defendable place. The nearby houses all had high wooden fences that would provide protection. "Paul I think it would be best if we checked out the houses in a little 2 by 2 grid." said Timothy as he sat down and opened his backpack. "We'll deal with it after lunch" said Timothy as Paul nodded and knelt down and open his backpack.

Finishing his ramen Timothy laid back in the shade. Even in the shade it was still slightly warm on the roof, but with 1:30 rolling around the heat was about to hit its peak for the day. So with this conclusion reached Timothy sat up and looked at Paul "So you ready to start cleaning these houses" asked Timothy. Paul simply looked over nodded and began to search his bag. He pulled a megaphone Timothy looked at him questioningly "What is that for? Timothy asked. "Watch and see, Which house is first." asked Paul as he started messing with the knobs on the megaphone. "Well I think it would be best to start with the house were on." replied Timothy as he packed up his backpack and picked up his bat. "Hey Paul how attached are you to that machete" asked Timothy as he walked towards the edge of the roof. "If you need it then give me the bat to use" stated Paul as he walked up to the edge next to Timothy. After trading the machete for the bat Paul checked the yard and then got down.

Looking down at the yard and only seeing a normal yard Timothy climbed down after Paul. Reaching the ground Timothy looked at Paul who gave him a be quite and ready sign. Timothy nodded and cautiously walked to the backyard with Paul following right behind him. Reaching the middle of the back yard Timothy stopped and waited for Paul to catch up. Timothy looked around to check out his surroundings it was a pretty well kept yard with quite a few potted plants and a nice set of french doors which was slightly open. Paul quickly walked up and swung the megaphone on its strap so it was ready to be used. "Watch and be ready you got the first one." said Paul as he double checked the megaphone and set his bat against the chair next to him. After making sure the mega phone was ready he sat it down in the chair and pressed a button. He then picked up the bat and took a solid stance Timothy looked to the door and took a stance. Not a second after Timothy took up his stance did the megaphone start playing "Highway to Hell" at a decent volume.

Timothy thought that it was a pretty appropriate song for situation and after a few seconds the first zombie came stumbling out. It looked horrible, it's left arm was missing and its right didn't look at all that much better. Timothy started pacing towards the zombie with purpose. Listening to rhythm of the music Timothy took a deep breath to focus his mind and stepped close enough to smell the stench. He swung the blade in tune with the music and sliced off the out stretched hand. Timothy continued the swing with a heavy kick to the zombie's legs causing it to fall face first. He finished the fight with a swing downward to the neck of the laid out zombie cutting its head off. Timothy looked up back towards the doorway just in time to see the next zombie coming out.

It was a female in a yellow blouse with a chunk missing from her arm and a broken ankle. Timothy got up and stabbed forward piercing the zombie's chest. "Duck" Timothy heard from behind him and grinned as he ducked and tightened his grip on the machete. He felt the breeze from the bat as it swung over him and struck the zombie in the head retching it from the machete. It hit the ground and rolled over displaying the caved in side of his head. Timothy got up and stood beside Paul "Ready to go in and check out the place" asked Timothy. Paul nodded as he turned off the music and with that Timothy stepped forward towards the back door.
