Introduction

Introduction:

“Welcome to the town of Aurora!” the sign post will forever be burned into your memory. It doesn't matter how you got here or why. It makes no difference if you moved here a few weeks ago or if you have been here your whole life. You will always remember the day you got here and wonder what possessed you to stay. Be it destiny or coincidence, you happen to be here when everything goes wrong.
What the population doesn't know is that a very sick man was transported to the local hospital just a few weeks past. Whatever he has, it has the doctors stumped. He only has a short while left on this earth, they can't combat his sickness, he is doomed. His doom will seal the doom of everyone in Aurora. The second his heart stopped, the tragedy of Aurora began.
Whatever he had, it didn't let him stay dead, and its contagious. So contagious that the slightest scratch, or bite passes it on. They get the same disease, slowly killing them from the inside. The time varies from person to person, they could have weeks left, days, or maybe just hours. When their hearts stop, they join the hordes of walking corpses. At first glance they look human, but they are mindless, soulless monsters. They have only one human instinct left, the need to feed.
They will eat anything they can get their hands on, anything alive...and that means you.
It doesn’t matter how you got to Aurora or why, the real question is can you get out alive?

Information:

Your story begins the day before the outbreak. Surviving in Aurora is going to be difficult, here is some information that might just keep you alive.

Major Places in Aurora:

Image

Freeman Medical Center:
This was once the top rated hospital in the county. Many patients have been sent here when lesser hospitals couldn't treat them. It makes sense that a man with a incurable disease would be sent to Freeman for treatment. As soon as the virus sets in, this place is the first to be slaughtered. It is soon crawling with mindless, flesh-hungry monstrosities. Going here after the outbreak is most certainly a death wish. However for the right party, or brave soul this could be a great asset full of untouched medical supplies. Stay clear unless you have the skills and resources to take on horde after horde of undead.

Image

Town and Country Supermarket
This was once the main place for shopping in the small bumbling town of Aurora. With all the people in this Walmart like grocery store it can be easily concluded that one bite turned the place to chaos. Chock full of supplies you will have to be quick to loot it, because everyone is thinking about the shelves upon shelves of food and necessities that it contains. Not only will you have to watch your back from the undead lining the aisles but from the other survivors who think they need food more than you and will do anything to obtain it.

Image

Aurora Police Department
The Aurora Police Department has never gotten much business. The occasional shoplifter or teenager after curfew is as much action as these men ever get to handle. This has not been the case since the outbreak. The few cells that it has have been filled to the brim with people who have been bitten and not yet turned. The APD is now abandoned and could have guns and ammunition, or it could just have lots of starving crazed people, desperate to do anything to escape.

Image

James D. Wilcox Middle School
Nowhere was safe after the outbreak, the local middle school is no exception. These poor defenseless kids are trapped in it's isolated walls. Will you brave the long dark hallways looking for your loved ones that could be trapped inside? Or will you only find they have been turned into high speed flesh eaters with faces of the children you once loved?

Down Town
The smell of dirt, grime, trash and now rotting flesh fills these slummy streets. Home to some shady businesses such as Bert N' Ernie's, this is the sort of place you might meet some “interesting characters” who still have a heartbeat.

Image

Bert N' Ernie's Pawn Shop
This pawn shop is located in the down town area, and has seen it's share of shady customers. It goes without saying that over half of the merchandise they have is stolen. The only thing Bert and Ernie are better at than buying stuff for cheap and selling it for more, is keeping secrets. So weapons are no stranger to Bert N' Ernie's walls. Just keep in mind that the history of any weapon you get from them might be a little on the gruesome side.

Image

Hermit's Hardware Store
Part of the strip mall with the supermarket, Hermit's Hardware Store gets a good bit of business. From supplies to fix your house all the way to dog food in bulk, Mr. Hermit sells it all. With an open mind you'll be tinkering your way to many zombie killing contraptions.

Suburbia
Soccer mom's and carpools are not uncommon here. These middle class citizens are doing better than some, but not as well as they would like. Temporary salvation might be found within these cute two story family homes, alongside some useful supplies. Just beware those blue collar zombies looking to work not so hard for their next snack.

Image

Aleckzandur's Junk Yard
His mother may have never taught him how to spell (as she never learned herself), but Aleckzandur knows his way around an engine. You might find a car worth repairing in this lot of broken junk, but more likely you are just going to find yourself lost in this zombie infested labyrinth of scrap metal.

Image

John Bentley Public Park
Once filled with the shrill laughter of small children, John Bentley Park is now eerily quiet. Nothing but the squeaking of empty swings remains. One might find shelter in the play towers, or find a hot meal at the grills and picnic tables. Just be careful your fires don't attract some unwelcome guests.

Image

Aurora Town Hall
The place of official business in Aurora. It used to be the beacon of hope for the citizens of Aurora, now the white marble halls are now stained red. With it's open door policy, you can stop by any time, and who knows, you might even get to meet the mayor! Lucky you...

Image

Aurora Museum of Human History
Not so popular among the citizens of Aurora, this dusty and semi-abandoned museum has been under some recent reconstruction to attract more visitors. These thick walls seem to be the perfect resting place for survivors. Keep an eye out for the night guard, Stan, he doesn't like people messing with his artifacts.

Image

Monster Mike's Gun Store
With it's creaky sign swaying in the breeze out front, right next to a rusty torpedo, this little building is owned by the beloved town veteran Monster Mike. No one knows how he earned his nickname, the story changes every time he tells it. Despite being out of the Marines for many years, he still has a body fit for the service. Not a soul alive knows more about guns than he does, and now nobody every will.

Image

Moe's “Don't Tell” Motel
If you have been able to avoid getting a virus of any sort so far, your luck has run out. If you have to go anywhere near this establishment you're sure to catch something here. If you're fortunate, that screaming from room 202 is just another average night for Mrs. Davis and one of her “friends”.

General Information about the Virus:
It is possible to contract the virus without becoming part of the undead, at least right away. It is only contracted by blood, this means the that any part of the undead comes into contact with your blood stream, through any wound, you are then a carrier of the disease. No wound is safe, any break in the skin, any scratch, any cut is capable of ending your life. The length of time from when you contract the disease, from the time you turn varies from person to person, but the location also has some effect. A bite to a major artery will cause the disease to spread quicker than a lesser one. Also, once you have contracted the disease, anything that causes your death will then cause you to turn.

Image

Killing the Undead:
The virus works by reanimating the brain, however slightly. These corpses only maintain simple motor functions and instincts. The only way to put them down is blunt force trauma to the head or spinal cord.

Image

Avoiding the Undead:
There is no telling where the zombies will be, but there are a few tips that might be able to keep you from facing a horde. Zombies may not be smart, but they do know that where there is noise, there is food. Loud noises will alert the hordes to your whereabouts and they will come to devour you. This means car alarms, radios, shouting, and yes, guns. These weapons might be some of the most useful against a horde, but keep in mind that the noise will alert any zombies within ear shot.

Image

Ammo Limitations:
No gun has unlimited shots, and that being said, ammo can be heavy and limit your mobility. Aurora has been a peaceful town until the undead invaded, so guns and ammo are also extremely hard to come by. Be wary of your ammo supply and capacity and always aim for the head.

Image

The Bare Necessities:
While it would seem that you should always pick a weapon over that can of ravioli, a backpack full of food might be just what you need to stay alive. You can just as easily die of dehydration or starvation as you can by becoming a zombie's lunch. Keep tabs on your rations.

Image

Allies and Enemies:
Will you group up with refugees or stray out on your own? The choice is yours. Keep in mind that not everyone is out looking for friends and you could just as easily be targeted by other humans as you could by zombies. Desperate times call for desperate measures and if you have the supplies someone else is looking for, you might want to watch your back.

Toggle Rules

Rules:

1.Please be kind and courteous of other players. You know the drill, don't kill other characters without first talking in the OOC thread. Don't take control of other player characters ect.
2.Don't submit a character unless you plan on sticking with this. A three day absence from the role play with out any notice or contact with either GM will warrant for your character's certain and... timely demise at the many hands of the zombie horde.
3. Please keep in mind that characters are going to die, if you contract the virus, you will be contacted and have a say in how your character will die. You will then be given the option of playing your character as a zombie, or selecting another character.
4.Just because you submit a character does not mean you will be picked to be a part of the RP. We will pick the characters we think will be the best fit for the RP. Also, this is how we are going to be able to tell what your writing ability looks like. Please take your time as if this were one of your posts.
5.Please take your posts seriously. Do not write just a couple of sentences and think that is supposed to be it. I don't like putting limitations on post length, so use your discretion. Just keep in mind that a good sized post is somewhere between 2 to 5 paragraphs.
6.To let us know you have taken the time to read the rules and the information provided please add your character's favorite food and favorite place in Aurora to hang out to your character skeleton.
7.Keep within the restraints of the setting, this means you cannot find lightsabers for weapons and so on. We as GMs reserve the right veto such discoveries. For example, if you find a gun somewhere a gun should not be, you might be asked to repost. If you do not comply it will result in character death.
8.Please be respectful of the GM's. If we notify you that you need to eat or you are going to starve to death or something to that affect, heed our warning. Failure to do so will result in some lucky zombie NOT starving to death.
9.And lastly... have fun. It is what this is all about after all. If you have any ideas we love feedback, feel free to message either of us.

David breathed out a quick sigh of concern but nodded to the little girl as he rubbed the back of his neck.

"Yeah, sure of course. We'll find them."

David said, his voice unsure yet resolved to find the young girls parents. Trekking off after missing civilians was risky and dangerous but he wasn't about to deny a child an opportunity to find their parents. If the roles were reversed he would go to the ends of the earth to find his brother. He turned to the young woman as she tied her hair up in a bow.

"I'm with you, I'm not about to leave you two ladies out here on your own."

He said with a warm smile before the young woman caught the sound of someone moving nearby. David's smile faded in an instant as his hand went to the gun at his back. It was out and at the ready in seconds. He was about to move forward to engage the target but the woman motioned for him to hang back. David halted but kept his gun ready to drill a hole through whatever was on the other side of the car should it be hostile.

"Are you okay?"

He heard the woman say, whose name was still a mystery to him as was the name of the young girl.

Matthew stayed hidden behind the car, terrified. He had woken up this morning and started his day as usual, then things had gone insane and the next moment, there were the walking dead - or at least something like them. It was bizarre, like from a sci-fi or horror movie. And now he was here, hiding behind someone else's car after a frantic moment of panic filled fleeing, clutching his conducting baton like some sort of makeshift weapon. Suddenly, he heard people nearby. They were far away, but he heard them clearly.

As they grew closer, he became now and more paranoid. What if they attracted one of those whatever they were? Just as he was about to peek around the car to check, one person looked over the car and spotted him. Frozen, he simply stared back, blue eyes wide and his knuckles turning white as he gripped the baton. Then, one of them spoke. The moment he heard her voice, he unfroze - her voice seemed familiar, had he heard her before? Was she student at the middle or high school? He could forget a face but he never forgot a voice.

"Y-Yes," he said quietly, standing slowly, looking around himself cautiously. "Are you?" he inquired in return. Perhaps she would recognize him before he recognized her. Depending on the time of day, he taught at the middle school or the high school - high school in the morning and middle later in the afternoon. A quick glance at all of them showed that they were far from walking corpses, and he even clearly recognized one of them - The young Lilly Williams from one of his more... rambunctious choirs.

"I'm fine," She used her sweet voice to coax him out of his hiding spot. She stared at him long and hard. He looked familiar somehow. Then she had it, she smiled enthusiastically at him, happy to see a familiar face.

"You work at the high school don't you?" She asked. She tried to think back to before she graduated. "You taught the music class." She held out her hand to him.

"My name is Vicky Dawn. I took your class about 2 years back. This is David, we only just met, and Lilly, she is one of my students." Things were tumbling out of her mouth stupidly.

"I'm glad to see that you are okay. We are heading towards Lilly's house. We have to get her home," She turned to the girl.

"Where do you live anyway exactly?" She inquired of the girl.

Lilly saw her choir teacher, Mr. Cave, behind the car as he came out. Miss Vicky recognized him too. He looked really scared and Lilly wondered how he had gotten there. It was strange to see him outside of the classroom. But, Lilly felt that she wouldn't see any of her classes any more anyways. Inside she felt a little jolt of excitement as she realized there would never be any more homework. Then she realized that the world she was in was a hard price to pay for no homework.

She woke up from her thinking to hear Miss Vicky asking her a question.

"Where do I live?" She asked rhetorically, thinking to herself. She realized that she knew the way, if they took backroads, alleys, and the backyards of people's houses; but she had no idea about how to get there using streets. She also wasn't quite sure how to explain it to them. She also wondered if these people would be able to follow her if she took her usual routes. They generally involved a lot of climbing, jumping, and falling from moderate heights. She wondered if these old people would be able to handle the strain.

"I can lead you there," Lilly said after a few seconds of contemplation. "But you might know a quicker way...It's close to the park. We could go there first and I could lead you from there if you want."

"The faster we're on the move the better. I don't like us being out here in the open like this. Lead the way Lilly, we're right behind you."

He said giving her a reassuring wink before checking how many shots he had left in his current clip and eyeing the nearby streets for signs of trouble. The nearby moans of walkers were ever present but fortunately there were none in visual distance. At least not yet. David took a minute to shake the new teachers hand as he introduced himself.

"Hey there, David Cross. Hell of a day huh?"

He said half sarcastic.

Matthew was quiet as Vicky talked, always having been a very polite man. As she asked if he taught at the highschool, specifically if he taught music, he smiled lightly and nodded, muttering a quiet 'yes'. It was comforting to know that two younger people had enough sense to take action while keeping their heads in the right place. He visibly calmed quite a bit once he realized that they were there, strongly believing in strength in numbers. He held his conducting baton loosely in one hand as he straightened his back.

"Yes, i remember you," he spoke after Vicky's brief introduction. "One of the few that paid attention if i remember correctly," With a sigh, he continued. "And i know Lilly, she's one of my current students - Also one of the few that pay attention." It was sobering for him to think about how many students tried to take his class for an easy A (although they quickly were proven wrong when they're lack of work ethic earned them a very solid D or F). Teenagers now...

He was pulled from his thoughts when the man, David, spoke up. He offered him a smile as he introduced himself. "A pleasure you meet you Mr. Cross, although i wish it would have been under different circumstances - Hell of a day indeed." Offering his hand politely, he spoke quietly. "I'm Matthew Cave," Once the pleasantries were finished, he quickly shifted his attention like flicking a switch.

They needed to get Lilly home - And she was the only one who know how to get there, so she would have to lead the way for all of them. Hopefully they'd make it - Alive.

"I know how to get to the park." Vicky said cheerfully. "My brother lives on that side of town. I want to check on him myself." She stared off in the direction of the park, then turned to face her party.

"It is probably going to be safer to walk. The roads are blocked in most places." She began to walk the route she knew best towards the park. Vicky was doing her best to stay out of sight, not wanting to attract more of the soulless monsters to them. She was especially careful to avoid downtown as the passed it. There as nothing but bad things there before everything went to chaos, she was sure there was nothing but even worse things now. It seemed they would make it to the park with no incident. They weren't far now.

Everyone was looking at Lilly for guidance but she wasn't sure if she knew how to lead. She shrugged and began to walk forward when Miss Vicky said she knew the way to the park. Lilly sighed in relief and she eagerly let the older girl take the lead. It was a lot easier then trying to lead them through her route. She noticed that Miss Vicky was avoiding the open while still using the street. Lilly still felt a bit exposed.

As they walked they could hear the sounds of chaos off in the distance, but for now they really couldn't hear anything close to them and Lilly felt safe with all of the adults walking with her. She noticed that Miss Vicky was avoiding downtown. Lilly would have lead them straight through there, because that was the quickest way to go. But she understood the need for caution and she followed her teacher trustingly.

As they got closer to the park Lilly got more and more nervous. She hoped her parents wer ok and she hoped that they wouldn't have to see any more of those zombies. She worried about leading them and started thinking of an easy route that the adults would be able to take without too much trouble. She had just thought of the perfect way to go when they reached the park.

I was bringing up the rear, the pistol in my hand. I kept my eyes scanning out immediate surrounding for signs of hostiles. We were moving steadily, making good time.

"Keep close to the buildings and check your blind spots people."

I advised as we continued on our route to Lily's home. As they went along I noticed the buildings starting to open up as the park started to come into view. Littered with park benches, playground equipment and picnic areas. It would have been quite charming if it wasn't for the walking corpses. There was maybe six or seven of the moaning and stumbling around in the park. There were two huddled over a body they were savagely ripping to pieces as the devoured the flesh. I moved up to the head of the column to bring Vicky to a stop.

"Woah, hold folks up we got contacts."

I said as I lowered to a crouching position and gestured for the others to do the same. I eyed the terrain and gauged my chances at taking out the few in the park but it just didn't smell right, too many variables. I turned around to confer with the others about our next move.

"I've got enough rounds for the ones I can see but it's the ones I can't I'm worried about. We don't know how many are around the corner or down the next street. I start firing off rounds the noise will draw everything in ear shot. We don't want that."

I said before pausing to shoot another quick, speculative glance at the park before turning back to the group.

"Options?"

Matthew moved cautiously with everyone else, staying completely silent. He hoped that most everyone was okay, although it was very doubtful at this point. He, at least, hoped most of the students in the area had survived - After all, youth was important, it's why he loved to teach.

As everyone spoke around him, he simply listened. That's what he was best at after all, listening. Perhaps he's be able to hear some other people who were looking for a group to travel with. At this point, he just wanted to find somewhere safe to think about his - more like their at this point - situation. Then, sound reached his ears. IT was slow shuffling, and not the kind of a human shuffling, followed by a kind of creaking sound one might associate with the squeal of bones against bones. Well, that certainly answered a question or two.

As they continued to speak to one another, worried about their option with the group or single of whatever nearby he put up a hand to signal silence, much like he would do in his choirs, with one hand up and palm flat, outwards. There was stepping and creaking, but soon it made almost a cadence, almost a macabre harmony of corporeal instrumentation. Looking at him, he furrowed his brow.

"I think there's maybe a small group of them nearby, other than the ones we can see. Maybe three or fourish. Six at most, they don't sound loud enough to be any more." he offered his help, wanting to do what he could.

Suddenly sitting up with his heart pounding Timothy looked around his room, Now dark causing everything to cast deep shadows. He started wondering why Randy wasn't home and how long his tired body had slept. He looked at the clock 8:36 P.M. it said in it neon green numbers. With his heart still pounding Timothy began to look around rapidly searching for the thing that caused him to wake up , Finding nothing he laid back down trying to let his heart slow down. Timothy closed his eyes and thought relaxing thoughts. *BANG* *BANG* Timothy shot up like someone had set hot coals under him "What the fuck was that" Timothy thought. He looked around the the room for something to wield, but not finding anything. *CRASH**BANG* Now with his heart pounding again he got up out of his bed and walked out of the bedroom. Timothy started cautiously sneaking to the hall closet knowing he has something to wield inside it.

Reaching the closet door he opened the door as quietly as he could although it still managed to make a squeak as it opened. He fished his phone out of his pocket and flipped it open. He saw on the screen that he had two missed calls one from his friend Dylan and the other from his uncle Randy. He made a mental note to call them later after he investigated the noise. With that he turned the phone screen towards the closet to shine some light on the supplies inside. Timothy started rummaging around the supplies looking for a decent weapon. He moved a few items around until he spotted his goal in the back left corner. "Ahhh this will do" He sighed as he reached in and grabbed a baseball bat from the closet. He turned around put his phone on silence and put it back in his pocket. Now fully prepared to undertake his investigation he quietly started going down the steps to the living room.

Walking as quietly as he could Timothy proceeded down the steps, suddenly stopping when he stepped on a board that let out a load creak "Damn it" silently cursed Timothy. With his heart racing he stopped moving and inch fearful that the slightest moved would agitate the step. As time passed his heart began to settle to just a dull pounding he resumed his journey back down. As quietly as he could manage he completed going down the stairs without any other sounds. He smelled the air and smelt a mixture of things " I can smell pine witch means that somehow a window or door is open and I smell decay and blood which I have no idea where from" thought Timothy. As stealthy as he could manage he slowly and quietly peaked around the corner into the living room. He saw the normal outlines in the room but then something in the middle of the room moved slightly. Timothy focused on it and realized it was a human silhouette with his palms starting to become sweaty and his heart racing again.

He stealthily moved across the room to the light-switch, holding the bat tightly he flipped the switch. What greeted his vision was not anything he could have guess a middle aged man with a far receded hairline in a jogging suit. Timothy couldn't see the front of the man but what he got from seeing his back was enough. He instantly thought "There has to be something wrong with this guy" hoping the man could be reason with "Excuse me sir are you alright?" asked Timothy. He instantly wished he had not spoken because as soon as the man heard Timothy's voice he whipped around to face Timothy and Timothy's heart jumped straight into his throat. He could clearly see what the problem plagued the man, The man had lost a lot of blood with most of the front of his neck missing and a good portion of his face torn off, it was nothing short of a miracle that the man was still alive.

Timothy's mind was racing at this point his mind torn between wanting to believe this is just a dream and his mind wanting to be logical about the situation. Taking a deep breath Timothy relaxed and began to resume thinking logically. "There is defiantly something wrong with this guy and the fact that he is still up with wounds that would kill a regular human by now is extremely weird" Timothy thought to himself, the man set his sights on Timothy and let out a gurgled yell. Timothy jumped sightly from the surprise of the sound and rose the bat up over his shoulder in a defensive position. "Sir I will only say this once! You have two options, one to leave my property or two to lay down so I can get you some help. Which one do you prefer? asked Timothy. The man now hearing that his prey was indeed alive started rapidly staggering towards Timothy.

"So I suppose you took the third option. Very well all I ask is that you please forgive me for what I am about to do." said Timothy as he started to walk slowly with the bat over his shoulder towards the man. The man staggered into Timothy's range of attack and reached out for Timothy. That was all it took for Timothy, He took the reach as a sign of aggression and took a preemptive strike against the man. Grabbing the bat with both hands and assuming an attack posture, Timothy swung the bat in a diagonal overhead strike and hit the man in the shoulder. The blow broke the mans shoulder and made the arm completely useless. With the man slightly bent over from the strike Timothy took the opportunity to use the momentum of the strike and swung back up hitting the man in the jaw and chest causing him to fall on his back. Timothy resume his defensive posture and looked at the man from a closer perspective now. Seeing how old some of the wounds were some hours old long caked with dried blood, He even spotted the mans jugular torn on the side of his neck. Timothy averted his eyes from the old wounds and looked at the more recent ones a shoulder now completely smashed wont ever be used again, the man defiantly had a broken collar bone and a broken jaw now hanging by only a few muscles on one side.

"This is over, he's done, he wont be getting back up for a while" thought Timothy as he started fishing his phone out of his pocket to call the police with. With his attention now momentarily distracted he was completely shocked when he looked back down and saw the man attempting to get back up. Timothy could barely comprehend the fact that even with the man in an extremely high amount of pain why he was getting back up. "Fuck this" Timothy thought as he dropped his phone and got back into his attacking posture. Timothy swung downwards striking the man in the damaged part of his jaw. The man stumbled forward a little and Timothy sidestep to get out of his way. The man started to raise again and when Timothy saw the mans face his jaw hanging by one side, He finally understood that for some unknown reason this man had no life in him. Timothy looked into the mans eyes and saw no soul in there. So he swung as hard as he could and hit the man in the side of the head. With a wet crunch the side of the mans head caved inwards. The man took a small step forward and Timothy swung again as hard as he could manage hitting the same spot. With a wet crunch a portion of the mans skull came off and flung to side, The man immediately collapsed and stopped moving.

Timothy stared at the man for a few minutes to make sure that he would be getting back up. After he was sure the man was out of the game for the count, Timothy started looking around the floor for his phone. He looked around and the shine of the screen caught his attention it was partially under the mans leg. Moving the mans leg Timothy was able to get to his phone and picked it up. Timothy called 911 and put the phone to his ear " Please call again later as all lines are busy, Thank you for your patience and please have a nice day." that answer was the last thing he wanted to hear today. Cursing the phone he put it back into his pocket and turned on the T.V. it showed only one station. The station repeated the same message " This is an emergency broadcast. Please stay inside your homes and refrain from leaving your homes. Please continue to do so until the situation has been contained" Timothy turned it off as it started to repeat itself.

"Forget this" Timothy thought as he grabbed his bat and keys. He rushed out the door and was greeted by what seemed like a little piece of hell. One of the neighbors house was on fire and another had a few of their windows smashed. In one of the windows Timothy could make out what seemed like a person hanging out of it, Its head was completely missing. Timothy shook his head to clear any unnecessary thoughts and ran over to his truck. "Okay this looks like a total disaster so first thing I have to get is get somewhere safe and I think I know where but Ill need supplies" Timothy thought as he rushed back inside as he grabbed a backpack and threw some hardy clothes, an extra hoodie, a few boxes of poptarts, a few bottles of water and some insta-ramen packs "That should do it" he thought to himself. He rushed back outside to his truck and got in. "Ok now to the Museum" He thought as he started the truck and pulled out of the driveway.

Lilly knew where she was now. They were close enough that she could take them straight through to her preplanned route. She saw the zombies ripping apart a body and closed her eyes and shook her head. She didn't think she could ever get used to something like that.

"Woah, hold folks up we got contacts." David said as he walked to the front of the group and stopped them. The big man checked his gun and looked at the zombies ahead of them. He looked like he was ready to fight. Lilly didn't think that was such a good idea.

"I've got enough rounds for the ones I can see but it's the ones I can't I'm worried about. We don't know how many are around the corner or down the next street. I start firing off rounds the noise will draw everything in ear shot. We don't want that." Lilly nodded as the soldier looked at the group. They were deffinitely not going to be able to fight a lot of zombies and gunshots would draw zombies from everywhere.

"I think there's maybe a small group of them nearby, other than the ones we can see. Maybe three or fourish. Six at most, they don't sound loud enough to be any more." Mr. Cave spoke up. Lilly could almost see his ears twitch with the sounds that it seemed only hecould hear. She wondered how he was able to do that. If there were really 12 zombies though, they'd never be able to fight through them all before more would come.

"Can't we just go around them?" Lilly asked, whispering. "I can take us through backways and we can avoid the roads and the zombies. If we're quiet enough, I don't think they'll even know we were here."

David turned to Lily who, while seeming apprehensive, appeared resolved and confident in her abilities to lead the rest of the group the rest of they way. He was impressed with her resolve despite the horrific chaos unfolding around them. Strength like that was a rare thing. That being said he couldn't help but note the resolve of everyone in the group. Vicky shifted between compassion for Lily and the rest of the group and a hardcore ability to do what it took to survive. Odd but still a good thing as far as the Ranger could tell. Then there was Matthew, a civilian maintaing his head in a situation like this was a remarkable thing. David counted himself fortunate to come across this elceltic, level headed group.

"If you can get us there, we're right behind you Lily. Staying off the roads sounds like a plan to me. Point the way."

David said giving her a warm smile with a firm nod.

Vicky agreed with the rest of the gang as they decided to take the safe route and move around the group of flesh hungry monsters. It was definitely the smartest decision. They were almost past the park, everything was looking like they would be getting out safe and sound, when all of the sudden Vicky hit a car by accident.

The car alarm came on, blaring within earshot of the entire block.

"Damn." Vicky cursed. IT wasn't her style to curse, especially in front of kids but it seemed that this was a good exception. The zombies in the park heard the noise, and without hesitation began making their way towards the group of 4. Vicky slowly began pulling her hair down.

"Sorry about that guys," Victoria said bemusedly. She gave them a wink, "Looks like we are going to be fighting them any way." She knew they could never take them all. If Army man over there was going to shoot them all, that would leave them ammo-less until they found some more. Thankfully they were moving slowly, they might have to fight a few but the others they could easily run around.

One of the monsters approached Victoria, she didn't make the same mistake twice. Upon watching David shoot the other in the head, she knew that would take them down. It would be pretty hard to walk around without a spine. Victoria flipped so she was on her hands and grabbed the head of the corpse with her calves. Effortlessly she snapped the neck of the monster and it fell lifelessly to the ground.

"We need to move. We can't take all of them."

It seemed to be a pleasant day, much calmer than Jennifer was used to. Well, yes, there were zombies roaming around, but when you took those out you were left with car-less streets, no deadlines, no money troubles, and a warm sun.

Unfortunately, zombies were very much a factor in ruining this great day.

The smell of blood, waste, and decay hung thick in the air already; Jennifer had to roll up her windows and turn on her car's air recirculator to avoid it, and even then it was rank. The stench was all around, and there was no escape from it. So this is what the zombie apocalypse is like, Jennifer quipped mentally as she cruised along the streets, occasionally needing to speed up to evade pursuing zombies. Well, perhaps 'zombie' was a bit incorrect in some cases. There were those who had died and turned, crying for her flesh, but there were also those who clung to life and did whatever they needed to survive. They shot other survivors, they killed for food and weapons, they pushed others in the way of the horde to save their own skin, trying to ignore the desperate and painful screams as they ran. Jennifer was faced with both types of zombies, and both were equally as dangerous.

So she drove. But not out, just around. She tried to keep from running over too many bodies as a sign of respect, but after a while of this she gave up trying. Bodies filled the streets, too plentiful to miss. It would have bothered her more if she knew any some of them. Occasionally she would see one collapsed near a mutilated zombie, bearing wounds all over to prove their victory by struggle. The intelligent would beg to be killed, but the 'zombies' would beg for help, oblivious of their inevitable transformation. For the intelligent, she fetched her tire iron, mercifully granting their wish as painlessly as possible. For the cowards, she waited in the car, offering reassuring words and trying to explain the situation to them. She gave them time to come to grips with their death—time any sensible survivor with a gun would not have given them.

She was looking for something. Probably. Maybe. She wondered why she hadn't left town yet, and seriously considered doing so, yet she always decided against it. There was something she felt she needed to do, and only after stopping herself from leaving repeatedly did she realize what it was. She wanted to save someone. It didn't matter who, it didn't matter how, but she wanted to keep at least one person from dying in this horrible tragedy besides her. So she resumed her search, this time with purpose.

And then there was the sound of a car alarm.

The others had started to follow her. Lilly had been confident about the path she was about to travel. She mentally prepared herself, shutting out anything that didn't have to do with running. She stretched as she began walking forward. Pulling on her arms and cracking her back. Then Lilly began running, her footfalls barely making a sound on the ground as she led them past some cars and away from the main force of the zombies. Miss Vicky took that opportunity to accidently bump into a particularily touchy car and set off an alarm.

The zombies all turned towards them and began walking towards the sound of their prey. Miss Vicky did an amazing stunt and snapped the neck of one of the creatures. Lilly didn't really believe her when she said that they couldn't fight them all. She had never seen anyone do anything like that. Lilly looked around for a new path to take, to escape the zombies. She tried to clear her mind again.

"This way!" She yelled, not caring about staying quiet any more. Her plan had changed. Before she was going to take them on a quiet, easy route. Now, to escape the zombies, she would lead them through the quickest and (Lilly would admit) most dangerous route. It was also one that even she had had trouble with. But the adults were taller and faster than her, they should have a bit less difficulty than she did. Plus, it was the easiest way to get away from the zombies. As far as Lilly had been able to tell, these things were slow and stupid. Even if they could have caught up with them. They'd never be able to do all of the stunts it took to catch them through this route.

She placed her hands on the hood of the car that was going off and lithlely sprang over over it, landing on the other side of the row of cars. Then she ran towards the break between two houses, into their backyards. She hoped that the others would follow her, because her mind had been set and she was going to keep running. They'd have to do something to catch her attention if they weren't going to run with her. Her heart beat fast as she rounded the side of the house but there were no zombies in the backyard.

"Cmon!" She yelled, letting them know both which way to go and where she was by the sound of her voice. She ran to the back fence and hopped over it and into the backyard of a house on the street behind the one they had been on.

David turned in almost horror at the sound of the car alarm. The balring siren was like a diner bell to the hungry ghouls in the area.

"Shit..."

David groaned as he turned to see nearly all the walkers in the immediate area turn and began shuffling towards them, hungry moans in their throats. David raised his gun and fired off a few rounds into the crowd. Heads exploded from the impact of the projectiles meeting their targets. While the bodies dropped two seemingly would just fill the gap almost instantly.

"I'm gunna run outta ammo before we even make a dent in these things!"

David shouted as he hopped back, keeping his distance from the advancing horde.

"This way!"

He heard Lily shout causing him to whip around just in time to see her scramble up the hood of a car before darting between two houses, coming to a stop in the back yard.

"Through the gap people! After Lily! MOVE!"

He shouted as he took a few more prospective shots into the horde before running off to herd the others along after her.

Matthew followed Lilly, listening around them carefully. He wasn't particularly strong and clearly had nothing in the way of endurance, neither did he want to test it. To be honest, the only thing he could really do is run and jump - And everyone could do that. In that way, hearing would be the only way he could be helpful.

That is until the car alarm.

With the sudden loud noise, he flinched and stumbled. He cupped his hands over his ears and cringed, a stinging sensation crawling across his skin like tin, daggerfooted beetles. The volume of the car alarm and the gunshots overwhealmed his hearing, forcing him to simply follow them deafly until the auditory overload had been remidied by distance.

His vision pulsated with every honk of the car alarm and rippled with each gunshot, making him stumble a bit as he raced after them, catching up with them and matching their pace without breaking a sweat.

As the group of people near the car alarm's source turned and fled, jumping, ducking, and weaving like professionals, Jennifer guessed that they were actually alive, or at least extremely agile undead. But at the sound of gunshots and the sight of the gathering horde, it became more and more clear that these were not simple zombies—they were survivors. And judging by their appearance, it seemed they were not the other sort of 'zombie' either, that living sort which mindlessly acted to preserve its own life. The little girl that took the lead among them would probably not have been able to survive on her own, and thus the others must have been good people to protect her...or so she wagered.

Despite being chased, it seemed like the group didn't need her help all that much. But when has that stopped me before? Jennifer thought with a smirk. She made a quick turn towards the blaring car and began cruising steadily down the road in its direction. She honked her horn a few times while she drove, trying to get attention from the zombies and probably from the survivors as well. She hoped that the flesh-eaters would give chase to her car instead of the group—she was protected by pounds and pounds of impact-resistant metal, while they only had their clothes and brains to protect them. Within moments her car was where they had been, and she continued to honk for attention, making her car obvious to any potential pursuers. She waited there for only a few moments as the horde ran after the group (and thus towards her car), and could only hope that her car would prove more enticing a target.

Victoria watched as the car swooped in to their rescue. As the horn blared its annoying whir and got the animated corpses' attention. They went after the noise like the mindless things that they were.

"Who is that?" Victoria thought aloud. Whoever they were she was thankful that they came to their rescue, although she would never admit it. She watched as Lilly bolted after the car. She had taught the little scamp well. Lilly followed suit, easily barreling over the car. She looked behind to make sure the others were following her. She might need them and wasn't ready to give up her few resources.

They were on their way following Lilly as best they could, it wasn't easy, the girl was fast and agile. She ducked and jumped with so much expert grace that she had to run this route often. One of the straggling zombies came close, Victoria did a hard sweep kick to keep it away from her. The thing hit the cement with a satisfying thud. She didn't look back to make sure it was dead, she didn't have time for that, and quickly caught back up with Lilly and the crew.

David kept the horde at bay as best he could. Firing round after round into the swarming mass of bodies as he bought time for the others to escape. Only after the last of them made it up and over the car did David follow suit. It was then that the car sped up, horn honking wildly. "If I didn't know better I'd say they were trying to lure these things away from us..." The Ranger thought to himself as he charged up the abandoned cars and darted after the others. He paused to fire three more times before hearing a familiar clicking noise.

"Damn, I'm out."

He growled as he quickly and efficiently reloaded with his second of three clips with practiced ease. The importance of finding more ammuntion began blaring obvious as he pulled back the slide, readying the gun to fire once again. That done he ran the rest of the way before leaping into the back yard with the others. Cross took a moment to scan the gap to verify that they weren't being pursued.

"Anyone wounded?"

He asked while his eyes were on the car that had just saved them. "C'mon... get outta there." He said within the confines of his mind as he began to worry about their mysterious savior.

Lilly didn't take the time to talk. That car that came by might have saved them for now, but Lilly had to keep running. The closer she got to her house the more panicked she got. She was so worried about her mom and dad. She hopped one fence and into another yard. She stopped only for a moment, to see if the others were still following. Some were slowing down and she had slow down too just for them to keep up. Lilly was so nervous but she was trying her best to stay within range of them.

Lilly came to the first true obstacle. A ten foot drop into a storm drain area. She continued running off the edge and dropped quickly. She collapsed her knees when she reached the ground and rolled over her shoulder and onto her feet again. She waited to see where the others were.

The red Civic that Jennifer was driving was being swarmed with zombies. She was risking losing the car and even her life, but if she didn't stay long enough, she might not have bought enough time for the group to escape. After sufficient time passed (and several undead started to get a bit too close) she promptly stepped on the gas pedal, causing the car's tires to screech a bit. The noise probably helped gather attention, but her tires wailed in discontentment. She gave a slight wave, though she didn't expect the survivors to notice. Once her tires gathered the grip necessary, her car shot off like a bolt, mowing down a zombie or two in her escape. At least, she hoped they were zombies.

Jennifer felt pretty confident about what she had just done, but it didn't seem like enough. I could have done more, she reasoned. Her car cruised along at about 30 miles per hour—not too slow to escape, not too fast to discourage zombies—and she had another brilliant idea. Well, perhaps this one wasn't very brilliant, but neither was using herself as bait. Perhaps she could figure out where they were going. She'd been driving around for a while, after all. Maybe she could head them off and offer them a ride, assuming none of them have been bitten already. Still, she'd only been in Aurora a day, two at the max. How would she know where they were going, especially since Lilly was taking them on such an...'alternative' route? She tried to see what general direction that they were heading, and hoped they were traveling in a straight line. Were they heading to the park? Or maybe the police department? Or maybe somebody's house?

She really couldn't tell, and it was impossible to know for certain. So she decided to continue luring the zombies away for a while longer, but resolved to try and find the group again. After all, she may have just saved their lives. Could she really just abandon them after that? Especially when she had transportation to offer? Not to mention, it was the zombie apocalypse. If not for her desire to save them, she would still seek them out. Nobody wants to be alone during the end of the world.

He slowly and silently move to the window of his second story bedroom, letting each foot touch down very gently to the floor so as to try not to make much noise which proved more difficult with the floor suspended in the air with the frame of the house and could only manage to supress the sound to a slight creek. All hell had broken loose and he'd only barely manage to loose the crazies out there and make it to his house without them figuring out where he'd gone exactly. He had no idea what had happened and he was constantly reminding himself to stay calm, that panicking would only bring demise to him, demise in the form of being cannabalized and becoming one of those mindless monsters now wandering the streets and backyards with no sense of purpose or direction... with no soul. He slid his feet slowly around to where his heels hugged against the wall with his backside to it next to the window and lifted his right arm up at the elbow to very slowly pull the curtain but his hand started shaking again and he pulled his arm back, closing his eyes and clenching his fist defiantly and gritting his teeth in an attempt to exert his fear and anxiety through his body.

Zachery held that muscle tension for a few moments before he relaxed them and took three deep, steady breaths to get his mind focused on finding a way out, preferrably without detection but not promisingly, and lifted his arm back up to pull the curtain of his window back just an inch or two with his index finger and moved his head over to peer through it with his left eye. What he saw made him start shaking and pull back again to steady his breath.

Those things, whatever they were, were everywhere on the suburbian streets. There were several cars that had crashed through houses or just been abadoned in the streets but there were even some that hadn't been moved from their parking spots. Many of those car's windows were covered and soaked in blood. There was so much blood. On the sidewalks, on the neighborhood kids toys in their yards, on the walls and wooden fences. It was obvious there had been no valiant struggle here. Only a savage, merciless slaughter.

He steeled his nerves and peered out the window again. None of those things wandering the streets, he estimated at least a dozen and a half or so in his line of sight, seemed to notice him which brought him some relief. They didn't seem to be all that bright and were somewhat oblivious to their surrounding. 'I might just be able to get out of here.' He though to himself as he scanned the road in front of his home. The things weren't that fast but with how many he could see on just this small portion of road and that were in his sight it wouldn't take much for them to tangle him up in their midsts and become trapped. He decided that with all the obstructions on the road that that wasn't an option for him and gently placed the curtain back against the window.

"Damn it I haven't even made it two streets over" Timothy thought as he started seeing zombies all around. He always thought that zombies were just a bad joke and would never happen, But now with them walking around they were defiantly not a joke. He turned off the car lights and quietly continued with the aid of the street lights. He was keeping a very close eye on his surroundings spotting a zombie every now and then. So far it was going smoothly but Timothy was fully aware that things had a tendency to change quick. But he was still hopeful that things would continue to go smoothly. At the current rate he was traveling it would be a while till he got anywhere significant. After creeping along quietly for another hour Timothy looked down at the gas gauge to check on how much was left "Not bad half a tank" he thought.

He looked at the clock on the radio 10:17 it glowed "Hmmm" Timothy thought as he started deciding what to do for the rest of the night. "Hmm should I continue driving in the dark or should I find a place to wait it out until morning. Lets see what the outcomes are 1 Drive and get closer to significant places but in the end ill be tired and it might be worst deeper in the city. Option 2 Find a place to sleep out of their reach, I would be rested and it would be day time and no negatives. So where to sleep" Timothy thought as he started looking around the neighborhood. Timothy continued looking for a sleeping spot for the next 30 minutes. Finally reaching an appropriate house Timothy stopped and checked it out the buildings roof. "Hmmm The building doesn't have anything around it so no way of jumping on to it. Its a comer house so that will be a plus if need to escape and I could stand on the fence and pull myself up." He thought to himself as he decided on trying this house. Timothy slowly drove across the yard and parked next to the fence. He turned off the truck and sat very quietly while he looked around for a few minutes. Finally accepting that it was as safe as it was going to get Timothy turned around and grabbed his backpack. He took his bat and slid it into his backpack as for as it would go and zipped the backpack closed around the hilt of the bat. He put his hoddie back on and put his backpack on looking around one last time. He quietly opened the door and slipped out of the door. Timothy slowly closed the door until it was against the frame and with slow pressure the lock clicked into place.

Timothy looked around on last time and started climbing onto the fence. As he reached the top he slowly stood up using the side of the house as a brace. Timothy grabbed the edge of the roof and started pulling himself up. Getting half of his body up he stopped and looked around on the roof to double check that nothing was up here. "Okay" He thought and nodded, He pulled himself up all the way and stood up. He instantly began stealthy walking around the roof "So.... Lets see what we have. Nothing see-able in the back of the house or front. Ok this is good for now." Timothy thought. He sat down near the middle of the eve and opened his backpack. He pulled out his extra hoddie and put it on hoping that with two on it would add some protection. Timothy went back to pulling things out of his bag, he pulled out a pack of ramen and a pack of poptarts. Shrugging he put the poptarts back into his bag and opened the ramen. He broke off and ate it, It wasn't half as bad as he thought it was going to be dry. He quietly finished eating the ramen and put the trash bag in his bag. Timothy zipped his bag up to the hilt of his bat but left it a little loose incase if he needed it. Timothy laid back and closed his eyes.
