{Full Name}
Aldric Theodore Dahl
{Nickname}
Ric {Occasionally||Neutral}
{Birthday}
March 5
{Age}
27
{Nationality}
Atlantian
{Sexuality}
Heteroromantic/Demisexual
{Power}
Aldric makes use of his ability of illusion manipulation in his line of work as the sheriff. His ability to conjure any number of illusions often makes apprehending suspects much easier. In the interrogation room, his power can have quite a bit of persuasive ability as well. Continued use of it does result in mental strain, making it difficult for him to maintain an illusion for any longer than fifteen minute intervals. Any longer and the illusion begins to flicker and allow reality to shine through; it also tends to result in a massive headache. Since his illusions are based on the senses, anyone with the trained ability of heightened senses can easily see through his illusions.
{Occupation}
Sheriff at the Police Headquarters
{Group}
Alterists

At a moderately imposing height of slightly over six feet, Aldric seems to be the perfect suited, physically, to the job of sheriff. He weighs in at a fair 183 pounds of solid muscle, considering how much running he does a does a day. But he's not all imposing stature. Aldric has a fairly long head of blonde hair, that he keeps pushed back and away from his face, and a beard to match. His blue eyes often glint with humor, and there's frequently an easy-going grin to be found on his face.

īŧŦīŊ‰īŊ‹īŊ…īŊ“
Justice, honesty, social events, hot chocolate, spicy foods, boxing, getting a "runner's high", whiskey, bourbon, poker, solitaire, action movies, old 70's films, green tea, watching sports
īŧ¤īŊ‰īŊ“īŊŒīŊ‰īŊ‹īŊ…īŊ“
Pretentiousness, aggressive people, bar fights, vodka, daffodils (he's allergic), going to the barber's, buying groceries, cooking, losing
īŧŗīŊ”īŊ’īŊ…īŊŽīŊ‡īŊ”īŊˆīŊ“
Good at reading people, perceptive, amicable, focused, determined, empathetic
īŧ¨īŊīŊ‚īŊ‚īŊ‰īŊ…īŊ“
Going down to the gun range to get a few shots in. It's a way to relieve some of the day's stress.
Gardening, surprisingly enough. He's more a of a practical plants kind of guy, with pots of herbs and vegetables rather than flowers.
Darts. He's gotten pretty good over the years, and he's not opposed to betting any new people in town whether he can hit the bulls-eye five times in a row.
Texas Hold'em. If years in the interrogation room can teach you anything, it's how to read tells and keep a great poker face.
Boxing and jogging. Despite being mainly to stay in shape, they're also ways to relieve stress.

īŧˇīŊ…īŊīŊ‹īŊŽīŊ…īŊ“īŊ“īŊ…īŊ“
Sarcastic, not the best at explaining things, bad at math, can be a little childish when it comes to losing, lazy when it comes to taking care of himself, impatient
īŧĻīŊ…īŊīŊ’īŊ“
Failing his father, losing a criminal, Miracle Pills, losing his mother, suffocating

īŧ°īŊ…īŊ’īŊ“īŊīŊŽīŊīŊŒīŊ‰īŊ”īŊ™
Aldric has something of bold personality. He's out there, a person you can't really miss. He's friendly and amicable, purposely making no distinction between the Alterists and Orphics he encounters. As the sheriff of the whole joint, he can't help but feel the whole division is a massive shame, and wants nothing more than to see the issue resolved. It can be hard to dislike him, as he has a very magnetic personality. If you've committed no crime, chances are, he's not going to harbor any ill will towards you.
Working with him can also be a pain, however, ask any of his officers. He has little patience for mistakes, and since he's certainly not the best at explaining things, making him difficult to please at times. He has a habit of answering sarcastically to serious questions as well, making it even more difficult to get any information out of him. But he does take his job seriously. There's not much more important to him than cleaning up the streets and putting bad people away. He has no tolerance for people goofing off during working hours, but he's not opposed to playing a game of darts when it's a slow day and there's nothing going on. In general, during work he's a massive pain in the ass, but he's absolutely the kind of guy you'd want to grab a beer with after hours.
Despite having a fun-loving personality, it wouldn't be wise to underestimate him. He refuses to take Miracle Pills, having been lucky enough to dislike pills enough to avoid them from the start which allowed him to see the effects before anyone could convince him too, but he does have a good handle on his ability, and he certainly uses it well. While he's not above using it to play a fun prank, he's very capable of using it in a more deadly fashion. He tries to use it for entrapment of criminals, but sometimes, he uses it for more. He'd like to say it's because he has no other choice, but he's been known to allow his emotions to cloud his judgment and let rage take over.
Aldric is a fair bit lazy, especially when it comes to taking care of himself. He runs every day and follows a rather strict exercise regimen, sure, but if one were to look inside his refrigerator, they'd find mostly empty space. He picks up most of his meals either at the coffee shop in the morning or at the bar the nights he decides to go out. He absolutely refuses to cook for himself unless he's on the brink of collapsing from hunger.
All in all, Aldric is perfectly likable person but with a bad side that's easy to get on when he's working.

īŧ¨īŊ‰īŊ“īŊ”īŊīŊ’īŊ™
Anybody who's been in Atlantis long enough knows Aldric's family. His mother and father used to run the sheriff's department before Aldric took over. In fact, that's where they met. It began as a work relationship, they told him, and was never meant to be anything more. But instead they fell in love. His mother made the ultimate sacrifice: leaving her position as deputy so they could continue to be involved. Eventually, they found a loophole, bringing her in as a consultant for cases. Gifted with the ability of psychometry, she was a useful addition to the team, and the entire department agreed to let her stay. It wasn't for another few years that they finally decided to have a child, resulting in Aldric. With the work of both his parents, it was no wonder he grew up with a strong moral compass and an unwavering sense of right and wrong. Despite both his parents leading very busy lives, Aldric never grew up feeling unloved or unneeded. He loved his parents as much as they loved him.
Having been creative as a child, Aldric decided on illusion manipulation as his ability when he came of age to be endowed with a power. His father helped train him in focus and control of his illusions, and his mother helped to train him in stamina and keeping control for extended periods of time. He began at only two minutes, but within the year he could go for bouts of seven minutes at a time.
When he began his sophomore year in high school, his father began to take him seriously when he expressed a desire to take over his father's position at the department. They began to work together, his father bringing him in on cases occasionally and training him more seriously. By the time he was a junior, he'd learned how to pick up on behavior clues and how to shoot a bulls-eye through a target from a fair distance away. He finally joined the department when he turned twenty, quickly rising through the ranks to become a deputy in barely two years. There was nobody who dared to say it was because of his father's position, partly because they had witnessed Aldric's skill and partly because they respected his parents far too much for that.
When Aldric was twenty four, his life changed. The criminal caught him off-guard they said. Pulled a gun out of nowhere. His father died. His mother retired from the department, unable to continue working through her grieving. And Aldric, well, he threw himself into his work. He had nothing else to do. They had apprehended the criminal, had sentenced him to life behind bars, so it wasn't as if he could pursue a vendetta. He had been doing his job in another part of town, so he couldn't obsessively blame himself. The only thing he could do was try to make his father proud.
When the sheriff who took over for his father retired the next year, Aldric was given the position. The double time he had been putting in had given him some serious wins and he was decidedly the best suited for the job. So at the young age of only 25, Aldric became the sheriff. He's close with everyone who works at the department, considering all of them his family in some way, and they all respect him. He's still trying to make his father proud, still putting all his effort into his work.
When the Miracle Pill craze came about, he somehow managed to avoid it. His mother had always been against pills of any nature, so he didn't take any despite the constant pressuring by his colleagues and friends. Besides, he didn't use his ability excessively anyways, and his mother wasn't taking any either since she hardly ever used her ability anymore. He barely even started to consider it when the effects started making themselves evident. It's still a somber event, bringing in someone who's gone mad because of those ridiculous pills. He wants nothing more than for the epidemic to stop and for life to continue as he once knew it in Atlantis.

With the good chance that we crash, let's say our grace (our grace)
In your final breathe believe, you're not alone.

Help will come,
Yeah you can come back home.
'Cause help is on the way,
Yeah you can come back home.
So come back home

As your eyes begin to fade, your mind will wander (will wander)
This life is just a game we play, that we can never win.
But don't give up, no don't give up.

Help will come,
Yeah you can come back home.
'Cause help is on the way,
Yeah you can come back home.
So come back home

Now in the end it's coming clear, you're not alone
'Cause everyone you've ever loved is waiting here for you
So don't give up, no don't give up.

Yeah, 'cause help will come,
Yeah you can come back home. (You can come back home yeah)
'Cause help is on the way,
Yeah you can come back home. (You can come back home)

~ January 15th, 8 pm. ~

ImageImage Tonight is a very special night. Perhaps the most special night if you don't count Christmas or New Years. January 15th is Conjoinment Day in Atlantis. That's the day when the surface dwellers first came down into the underwater city, connecting themselves with the seafarers, creating one indivisible population that still resides inside Atlantis's great protection today. Traditionally, the holiday is spent in great celebration. The Cabaret, Pub, and Casino are usually packed, and even on the streets, crowds of socialites are chatting and cheering. Everyone is dressed to the nines, whether they be dancing in the club or just chilling out at home. It's supposed to be a very peaceful, unified day full of fun and excitement. But during these times of segregation, revolution, and change, tradition may not last for too long...

If there was one thing to thank for the holiday, it was the quiet around the station. This was true at least in Ian's opinion. Aldric tended to have a more opposing viewpoint. Ian was perfectly happy to have no work, provided he could find something else to entertain him. Aldric, on the other hand, was growing more and more frustrated Pure silence seemed to echo off the plaster walls of the establishment, and there was no sound whatsoever, save the rustling of Ian's cards and the thud of darts as they left Aldric's hand and flew into the dart board.

It was Ian's short groan that eventually broke the silence. He gathered all his cards, shuffling them once more as he geared up for his seventh game of solitaire within the hour. "Did you know," Ian said suddenly, a hint of faraway thoughtfulness in his voice, "that there is only about a twenty percent chance of winning a game of solitaire? That's one for every five." He paused as he dealt the cards once more, letting muscle memory do the work for him as he turned his head to face Aldric, who spared him a glance before turning back to the dart board. "Tell me," he continued, "why then am I about to lose my seventh game in a row?"

There was the barest hint of chuckle from Aldric as he walked to the dart board to collect the projectiles. "When did you start being able to see the future then?"

"Shitty hand," Ian replied gruffly, aggravation clear in his voice.

Aldric paused after the first dart left his hand, giving it a moment's thought before ambling his way over to Ian. He lazily pulled up a chair and cast a cursory glance over the cards. "Shitty hand, huh? How much d'you wanna bet I can win this game? The usual?"

There was a scoff from Ian as he looked over the cards once more. Truly abysmal. Absolutely no shot of winning. "Fine, you're on. The usual. Here, hand those over." Ian extended a hand, curling and uncurling his fingers as he waited for Aldric to place the darts in the palm of his hand. He stood once he did, walking over to the dart board to pass the time until Aldric lost, as he was sure to do.

Five minutes passed, then seven, then ten before Aldric finally announced the end of his game. Ian sauntered over, a triumphant grin on his face. Then he was met with Aldric's own triumphant smirk. Furrowing his brow, he looked down at the cards, which were arranged in a perfect win of solitaire. Ian opened his mouth to say something, then closed it again. There was a moment of silence before he found the words.

"How the fuck did you--" He stopped. Realization dawned in his eyes. "Wait a second. This is one of your fucking illusions, isn't it? Damn it, Aldric, you know that's against the rules." The look on Ian's face indicated this wasn't the first time something like this had happened. In fact, when Ian first became Aldric's partner, bets like these were frequently made. It wasn't until his third month there that he realized he'd been played more than once.

Aldric laughed, shrugged. "It was worth a go, eh? Fine, your first three drinks tonight are on me." Invariably, their spoils were always drinks. Playing for money was boring, but playing for drinks were worthwhile. Their standard bet had become three.

With their bet officially over and done with and hour left sitting alone in the department before their shift was over, both gave up their individual endeavors to keep entertained, instead simply taking a seat the old wooden table in the corner of the room.

"I'm bloody starving," Ian chimed in after moment. "Think we could order something in? I'm feeling Chinese, maybe Italian."

Aldric sighed. He shared the sentiment. It was already past eight, and the last time he had eaten was dinner the night before. The creeping throbbing in the back of his head that told him he had been hungry for too long had already come and gone. "There's only an hour left. We can pick up something at the bar."

Ian nodded, albeit reluctantly. There was another span of silence before Ian spoke again. "You know what really sucks?" He paused for Aldric to acknowledge him, but the sheriff only raised an eyebrow at him. He plowed on anyways. "The fact that you're the sheriff, but we still got caught with the dead shift." Ian shot Aldric a pointed look. As the sheriff, he was in charge of appointing who got what shift, and it had been his decision to stick them in that time slot.

"I thought I was doing us a favor, all right? We're free for the actual activities of the night."

Ian only scoffed in return. They would be free for the festivities, but he wasn't sure the boredom that threatened to kill him was worth it.

Forty five minutes to go.

Her right leg was gently placed over her left leg when she sat on the park bench. She scrolled through some of the photos she took of the evening. They were lovely and the ones that weren't were immediately deleted. The brunette would have to print them out and post them on her wall. A small smile formed on her face when she stopped on one picture of an adorable elderly couple. They were just strolling down the street, hand in hand. The woman's clock was counting down above her head when Kyrie took the picture. Within two days the old woman was going to die and Kyrie took a picture of one of their moments together. It was going to have a special place on the wall.

The growling in her stomach interrupted her moment. Kyrie needed to eat something. Actual food too. The medicine she had earlier wasn't enough. Her thoughts went straight to Ian and Aldric when she thought of food. They were probably hungry too. They are always working down at the station. Even though its a holiday, they wouldn't dare take a break. The least she could do was buy them food as well. They do a lot for her, even if they don't know it. They are one of the reasons why she can even wake up in the morning. If it was up to her she would just go back into her house, but she wanted to see them. While she was sane. Kyrie turned off the camera and put in her camera bag hanging off her shoulder. She got up off the bench and headed towards the pizza place near the police station. She was in the mood for pizza.

Paying for the Xtra Large Meatlovers pizza, she held it firmly with too hands trying not to focus on the people walking down the street. If she started to focus on them her powers would activate, hard core, and she would pass out in the middle of the street. That wasn't safe. Her psychologist wanted to give her pills that lowered the effect of her powers. But they weren't natural. Kyrie didn't take any medicine that couldn't be created in her herbal shop. It was her rule. So she had to deal with this. One way was to not make eye contact with anyone. It was hard considering how many people were out tonight to celebrate Conjoinment Day. Finally the police station was in sight and she quickly headed inside. "I thought I was doing us a favor, all right? We're free for the actual activities of the night." That was Aldric.

Kyrie walked further inside to make herself known. "I hope one of those activities involve hanging out with me Aldric." she said with a smile. Going over to his desk she set the pizza down. Glancing over at Ian, she stuck her tongue out at him. "Don't even think about touching this pizza" she said to him. He knew full and well that she was kidding. She loved them both, it was just more fun to mess with Ian. He could have the pizza, but she was going to give him a hard time about it.

The scent equivalent of an angelic requiem filled the air. Ian immediately stood up, pulling in hesitant sniffs. Aldric cocked his head curiously, unsure of himself. Hunger tended to do things to people.

"Aldric," Ian started slowly, "am I hallucinating, or is that the sweet smell of a pizza?"

Just then, a brunette poked her head into the room, making a smart comment. The pizza followed shortly after. Aldric stood, laughing, a deep rumble in his chest, at Kyrie's sudden appearance.

"It looks like your hallucination pizza is attached to a imaginary Kyrie," Aldric said, turning to Ian. "Who I definitely plan on hanging out with today," he added, shooting a jovial smile in Kyrie's direction.

He moved with long strides to meet her as she started towards their desks. Wrapping her in a hug once she set the meal down on the desk, he ruffled her hair with a grin. "How you doin', kiddo? And thank you for this. God, I haven't had pizza in ages." With a grateful clap of his hands, he opened the cardboard box slowly, relishing the warm scent that wafted out. He pulled out a slice, immediately biting into it with an ecstatic groan.

Ian followed eagerly after Aldric, snatching a slice from the box from behind Aldric, who served as a shield from Kyrie. "Try stopping me," he told her with a smirk before digging in. The rusty chair beside him was pulled up, and Ian took a seat, kicking his feet up onto the desk. "You are heaven-sent, Kyrie. I'm going to be nice to you for, like, a whole week, I swear," muttered Ian around a mouthful of food.

The two were quiet for a while, simply savoring the first bite of food they'd had all day. Then the second bite, and eventually several more slices. They bickered over another one, before eventually settling on cutting it in half with a plastic knife Ian kept in his desk drawer. Gentlemen as they were however, they stayed away from the two slices for Kyrie.

They exchanged jokes as they ate, the food in their stomachs dulling the previous hunger pains. There had been a bit of a tension in the air before, a silent aggravation. But now, with Kyrie in the midsts and the headaches gone, it was much more open. Kyrie's presence was especially a relief on the day's events. She was something of the little sister neither had ever had. Ian bickered plenty with her, but that didn't mean he cared for her any less.

"Hey, so, Ian and I were actually thinking about heading down to the bar for a quick drink before they close. Shift's over in five, wanna come?" Aldric cut in sometime after the pizza was gone. He cast a quick glance at his watch, which told him they had some time before the pub closed for the night.

"Ugh, please. I could definitely go for a good whiskey after today. I hate working on holidays, there's never any action." Ian sighed, then turned to Kyrie. "Come on, Ky," he said with a cheeky grin, "you look like you could use a drink too."

Aldric pulled her into a hug. Clearly grateful for the visit and the food. Ian was clearly just trying to get pizza. And she could have stopped him if he wasn't using her favorite brother as a shield. Glaring at him playfully, she grabbed a slice of pizza herself. It was rather boring in the station. If she was away any longer they might have died from it. She rolled her eyes at Ian's comment. "You are a liar. But you're welcome." she said finished the pizza in her hand.

They three musketeers continued to eat in silence. Or really Kyrie didn't say anything and she watched Aldric and Ian argue over some of the pizza. They of course left her two slices while they cut one in half. They were so cute when they didn't speak to each other. If Kyrie didn't know any better, she would have thought they were related. Kyrie at the final two slices, satisfied to get her meal in of the day. Knowing Kyrie she won't eat again she till later tonight or early the next morning. Having three meals a day wasn't a specialty of Kyries.

"Hey, so, Ian and I were actually thinking about heading down to the bar for a quick drink before they close. Shift's over in five, wanna come?" Kyrie shrugged. She never really when down the bar. It was either to visit someone or make sure that her two closet friends weren't completely drunk. "Ugh, please. I could definitely go for a good whiskey after today. I hate working on holidays, there's never any action." And that is exactly why she checks up on them. Mostly because of Ian.

"Come on, Ky, you look like you could use a drink too." His cheeky grin made her smile. "You know for a fact that I don't drink." She said crossing her legs, right over left. "But if guys pay for all the sweet tea I plan to drink then count me in." she said rather excitedly. She just loved hanging out with them. Made her forget about her stupid abilities and how awful it was to know about people that would be dead within a month. And although she doesn't drink her problems away, she might as well. Kyrie looked at the clock. "And I mean it about the sweet tea. No spiking it Ian."

Unable to look away from his whiskey, Patrick barely registered when Alexis asked him a question, something about the festival. "Oh, um...whatever you'd like." He said with obvious distance, leaning against the bar and smoking his cigarette with diligence.

Forgetting how to act like a cordial gentleman, Patrick allowed Alexis to go on being a saint while he still hadn't said thank you. Somehow managing to keep the situation light, Alexis had already introduced herself to the woman at the bar. She was unreal, he wasn't sure if she was just pretending to not care he hadn't gotten her a gift or if she was genuinely that laid back of a woman - which again would be unreal.

He thought back to that night they first met, her coming in as he was closing the bar with the other girls from her job, she shone like star. She danced, and it seemed like it was all for him. Things had been so easy, and she hadn't indicated wanted to make matters different - so what was scaring him so much?

Sighing, he looked up to see Iris peaking back in. He chuckled under his breath, waving her in. Grabbing a handful of shot glasses, he lined them up along the bar, coming up behind Alexis to pin her against the bar pulling her close and giving her a big kiss on her cheek. "Thank you love, no man could ask for a better present." Raising his bottle to Iris as she re-entered the bar and the others, "Shots on the house!" He cheered.

It would be difficult to ignore that Patrick was quite the catch of the town, but Iris had seen enough women alternate in and out of his life it was hard for her to ever take any of them seriously. From any outsider perspective, it would be easy to spy Iris' jealousy. Alexis seemed like one of those fun girls from the surface who were able to live a life teetering on the edge of recklessness, not that Iris had taken the time to figure out otherwise.

Orphics were never taken seriously, painted as frail dolls with only their natural magical abilities having kept their society apart. She sighed, lighting yet another cigarette. Besides the fact that Iris had never gotten along with most people, especially pretty girls, she had just felt pushed on the fringe of all the lives around her. Holidays such as conjoinment day reminded her of such feelings, the impending doom of running into her family at the ball looming over her.

She looked back into the bar, locking eyes at Pat who gave an amused grin and beckoned her back in. Contemplating on facing her family or going in for another drink, the answer seemed obvious. She opened the door, glancing down the street to see none other than the Sheriff and the Deputy along with another woman Iris couldn't place a name to, although her face seemed familiar. Assuming they were headed into the pub, she waved, knowing she had made the right decision to stay as Pat called out shots.

Alexis smiled back at the girl as she recognized her parents. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well. Uh, actually my boyfriend owns the pub so let me buy you one." She said laughing softly. She smiled as Owen came over. She had become pretty good friends with Owen since she was typically here before closing. It made sense that they talked a lot.

"Hey, Owen. I would like-" She broke off when Patrick came up behind her. She giggled as he pinned her to the bar and kissed her cheek. She turned to look at him, grinning. "You're welcome. I'm glad you like it." She said to him.

After all this time, how did he still give her butterflies? If things were ever to get serious between them, it wouldn't be because she pressured him. She truly cared for him and wouldn't force him into anything he didn't want. She also knew he wasn't used to a serious type relationship. She was happy just to plan it by ear. "Yeah! Shots on the house! Isn't my boyfriend the greatest?"

Alexis giggled, leaning over and giving him an affection peck on the cheek. She sat back down at the bar. She smiled at Aaria. "That's Patrick. Do you know anyone else here? I can introduce you around." She offered. She smiled at Iris, hoping to lighten things up between them. She wouldn't mind having a few friends that were girls. Besides her family and Owen, she didn't really have many friends. "Hey, Iris! Why don't you come sit over here with us?"
