Kael is a very calm, level-headed individual. It takes a lot to get him riled up. He's calm in a sense that he doesn't let things get to him, no matter what people say, or how they treat him, he'll write them off but he won't let them upset him. He's just trying to enjoy his life and sight before it fades away completely. Don't be mistaken though, if you constantly insult him he isn't going to go cry about it he'll stand up for himself when it's really needed. He's very good at keeping his emotions under wraps though. He doesn't fly off the handle and just go crazy and he can't stand getting involved in arguments--especially the ones that involve yelling. What's the point in yelling at each other, absolutely nothing is accomplished, feelings are hurt, and precious time is wasted. For that reason, he solves all conflicts in a private and thoughtful manner. He doesn't like people who try to cause public spectacles. All problems involving others, he likes to solve away from the public eye so he doesn't cause an embarrassing scene. He's very carefree, obviously, most things don't bother him. Of course he does have his dislikes, things such as over-the-top, obnoxious people. They really irk him, but he's good at ignoring their existence. The one thing that is constantly on his mind is that moment when everything goes black for good. He's secretly very worried about going blind, he tries not to think about it, but it always creeps into his thoughts. Can you blame him? It isn't easy to accept that one day all of the color and intricacy of life will be lost to permanent darkness. That's why he lives in the moment, he doesn't want to think about the future, he wants to focus on enjoying the now. Even though he's afraid to go blind, he knows that once it happens, he will just have to accept it and continue on living. So he can't see, he's still alive. He'll adjust, at least he hopes so. For now, you better believe Kael is going to enjoy every single moment like it's the last.
History:
With the exception of realizing his sight was bad at an early age, Kael had a normal upbringing for the most part. He had a nice little family, including a baby sister when he was 8. At first everything seemed normal, but it was around the time that his sister was born, he realized his eyesight was strange. He would have trouble reading and would sometimes bump into objects he didn't see. His parents were busy watching over their newborn, so he didn't want to bother them with his growing problem. So some more time went by, he was in middle school when he got his first pair of glasses. Doctors didn't think his sight problem was that serious, so they gave him a pair of glasses and sent him on his way. By now he was mature enough to take care of himself. He did well in school despite the trouble he had when it came to reading, but he didn't participate in any kind of athletic sport since he was worried his sight might hinder his performance, much to his parents dismay. He allowed himself to become like furniture in the family. He was there, but he never talked. He sort of stepped back and watched his parents praise his sister, since she was excelling in both academics and sports. He did envy her to an extent, but he never showed any hate towards her. It wasn't her fault he had become a bit withdrawn from life. He survived high school like this and once it came time for college, things changed. He went back to the doctor to get his eyes examined again, and that's when he found out that he was legally blind. He didn't use that as a crutch to do bad in school and he didn't like telling his new found friends about it because he didn't want them to feel sorry for him. So, once again, he survived college. Once he graduated he wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life at that point, so he accepted a job at Midnight Cafe.

He keeps this a secret because he's found that it creates an awkward moment when people don't know what to say, other than "Oh, I'm so sorry!".
