Description

Image

Name:
Isaac Lehman

Nickname/Alias:
Itzak Shekt
Izzy Blunt
Isaiah Slater (recently)

Age:
36

Gender:
Male

Sexuality:
Straight

Love Interest:
Powerful, self-assured, strong willed women that he does not have to support.

Daytime Appearance:
A well dressed, dark haired lawyer, strangely reminiscent of Patrick
Dempsey. He maintains a several day shadow, but neither grows a full
beard nor shaves it fully.

Night-time Appearance:
As night falls, his hair lengthens by an inch, and his beard and
sideburns appear thicker and more intentional - he looks a slight bit
more like an Amish man.

Personality:
Isaiah presents as capable, goal oriented, and helpful - the sort of
person who would make a useful friend, or an invaluable asset. His
outward reactions to humans are usually a narrow choice between
optimistic and determined, even in the face of unpleasantness,
overwhelming odds, unforseen circumstances, and even defeat. Among
humans, this makes him appear strong, whereas angels and vampires
might see a manic drive.

Weapon:
Single barrel manual load shotgun. It is the same shotgun that Isaiah
killed his brother with. It is never loaded, and never fired, but
works well as a deterrent, or as a club when he wields it by the
barrel and strikes with the stock.

Ability:
Telempathy - the ability to sense and experience others' emotions at a
distance. Isaiah can neither read others' thoughts nor influence their
emotions, but he is in tune with the emotional states of others at a
distance. While he requires no physical contact not eye contact to
experience the effect, the ability falls off with distance. He can
telempathize clearly with everyone in and directly outside a
courtroom, or with vampires and angels within a few rooms of him. He
can easily sense the average emotions of crowds, or pick out rouge and
unmatching emotions of individuals in those crowds - though he cannot
easily pick out the individual to whom those emotions belong. The
presence of a vampire or angel drowns out the emotions of humans in
comparison.

Weakness:
Strong emotions of others, like betrayal, can flood Isaiah's own mind
and color his decisions. While this can present as a strengthening of
Isaiah's resolve if the emotion matches with his intended actions, it
can force Isaiah into inaction if he is unable to separate the
emotions of others from his own. Strong emotions from individuals can
reduce Isaiah's sensitivity for some time, and strong emotions from
vampires and angels close to him can blind him to human emotions
entirely. Additionally, children and mothers of young children are out of the scope
of Isaiah's targets - they remind him too closely of what he almost
once had, and what was deprived of his brother by Isaiah's actions.

Death:
After accidentally shooting his brother, Isaiah was exiled from his
community. When he eventually reached a busy highway, he found himself
a red smear on the roadway when a too-tired trucker driving too late
at night woke up to what he thought was a rumble strip, but was really
the momentary crunching of Isaiah's bones beneath the front left
tires.

History:
Isaac Lehman was born into an Old Order Amish community in
Pennsylvania in 1943. His parents later had one more child, Isaac's
brother Luke. At nineteen Isaac married, but the union produced no
children until 1967, when both his wife and child died during birth.
Luke, finding his brother broken by the loss, renewed their teenage
tradition of hunting together - which neither had done since Isaac
married. Revitalized by the practice, Isaac continued to maintain his
homestead alone for nine years, first unable, and then uninterested in
courting a worthy new romantic interest for a second marriage. Isaac
mourned his wife and child's passing each year by drinking of Luke's
own distilled liquor and praying to God that his own blight not befall
unto others of his community, and that if it should that those lost
find their way into heaven. It was not until 1976, when Isaac was 34,
that this anniversary fell onto one of the hunting days that he shared
with Luke. Unwilling to give up the hunting tradition, he cajoled Luke
away from postponing their hunt to allow him to mourn by merging the
two events. The disastrous combination resulted in his breaking his
rifle before even leaving for the woods. Luke, sensing his brother's
need to follow through with the hunt, offered his rarely used but
available shotgun as a consolation. Isaac's hazy memory of the events
that followed was clear only on one point - that he unwittingly shot
his own brother in the chest. While his comunity later absolved him of
malicious intent, the loss incurred was too great both for Isaac to
stay, and for the community to keep him. Exiled that same night, Isaac
gathered some few posessions and struck out for the modern world - and
died three days later under the wheels of a modern truck.

After his death and donning an angelic mantle, Isaac made his way into
law school and became a prosecutor. The profession came naturally, as
he was able to see clearly how his various techniques, arguments, and
stimuli affected a judge or jury - irrespective of facts or evidence.
Tasked with cutting down vampires, the profession also gave Isaac,
self styled as Isaiah Slater, access to the jails and courtrooms where
angels and vampires alike often found themselves as suspects for
murders they secretly committed but were eventually absolved of. Not
discriminating between their holy-or-satanic affiliations, Isaiah
works to cleanse the world of the unnaturals as they enter his
purview. On occasion, Isaiah has been persuaded (via an appeal to
empathy) to assist a fellow angel, or even a vampire, out of a legal
bind, instead of killing them.

Goal:
Isaac, having never faced his brother's family or even his living
father, neither received from, nor provided closure to those of his
community who truly cared for him after his wife and child's passing.
His business would be finished only after this reconcilliation, but is
made more and more difficult as those who knew him directly are more
likely to be lost to time. Those affected by Isaac's final actions
continue on, as Luke's suriving wife and children never recovered from
their loss, and will continue to pass on that misery to those around
them.

Other:
Despite the calling that he slay a vampire once every year, Isaiah
never seeks his prey. Memories of his loss during his first life drive
away any new memories of his kills, so he is not quite sure how many
of either kind he has dispatched since '76.

So begins...
