Sum it all up: Jennifer and Michael Jones decided early on that they wanted a big family and a big family is exactly what they got. Soon after marrying, they discovered that Jenny was pregnant with their first child. After a grueling nine months, Isaiah James was welcomed into the family. Almost instantly after giving birth, Jenny and Mike were back in the baby-making business. Another nine months passed, and they were overjoyed with their newest addition to the Jones household, Emily Maria. They waited until Emily was walking and talking before trying for their third baby, Jacob Lane. After little Jacob, the family was blessed with the miracles Danielle Mae and Faith Azure, twins. And just two short years after their arrival, Nevin Paul made his entrance. Yes, the Jones had the big, bustling family they had always wanted, filled with love, laughter, and its fair share of tribulations.
Dani, being smack-dab in the middle, was often overlooked by her parents, but she didn't mind. The young girl enjoyed solitude and found the comfort she needed from her twin, Faith. Faith was quite the opposite. She loved the limelight and was a social butterfly. She basked in the attention given by others and always made a point to be in the center of the hustle. Dani knew, accepted, and loved the life of a wallflower observing the lives of others and staying hidden well in the shadows. The lives of the Jones was more than hectic with some many people under one roof, but for every problem there were triumphs in tenfold. They were a happy family. Yes, they were a happy family until tragedy struck one day just after the twins had started their sophomore year.
Danielle and Faith had just turned sixteen a few months back and had both gotten their licenses. The girls had stayed after school late one day, Dani for soccer practice and Faith for cheer practice. It was past eight o' clock before Faith would be done and so, Dani waited on her. Finally around 8:15, Faith and Dani walked to their baby blue VW Bug, threw their things into the back, and headed home. Faith, the driver, never saw it coming. There was nothing she could have done anyway. A drunk driver ran a red light, and plowed straight into the driver's side.
Three days later, Dani awoke to the rhythmic sound of her own heartbeat being kept track of on a machine somewhere to her right. She had no clue where she was, but when she saw her mother sleeping in a chair at her bedside, the memories hit her. When Dani cried out for her sister, her mother woke. Within a few minutes, Dani's heart was breaking. Her sister, her best friend, the one person she counted on had been stripped of life. Dani found little comfort in the fact that Faith had sufferred little. It wasn't fair that she was gone. From that day on, Dani's was never the same.
She took to drinking rather heavily and it became the one constant in her life. Though she found no solace in the bottom of the bottle, she drank anyway. It didn't matter the time of day or the day of the week. Parties became a regular hangout for Dani, as this was the easiest place to find alcohol. Promiscuity came with the drinking. One night, Dani got entirely too wasted. She was to the point where she couldn't even walk and was on the verge of unconsciousness. That's when a guy, some random guy, decided to take advantage. Easily, he stripped Dani of her clothes. The drunken girl barely remembers the act, but she remembers whispers of no coming from her mouth. When he was done, he left her there naked. A boy that Dani had only met twice took care of her and took her back to his house. The next day, she came to find herself in the bed of stranger who she later found out was named Christian. As hideous as the details were, Christian explained what happened to her the previous night and ever since then the two were best friends. It didn't matter that he was nearly a year younger. They were each others confidants. Every secret told to the other.
Just two short months after that awful night, Dani sat in a train station bathroom by herself looking at the black watch clasped around her tiny wrist. When three more minutes passed, Dani looked at the stick she held in her hands. It read positive. She was pregnant by a nameless man with an unknown face. Christian comforted her and talked her through her options. He pleaded with her to keep the child, that though it was not his he would help. But, Dani couldn't. In the following week, she made an appointment to get an abortion. The depression only worsened after that. Dani dropped out of school and took to painting. It wasn't much, but it helped her get by. Now, at nineteen years old with a sophomore education, Dani would do anything to leave those memories behind. So, she hits the road with friends.
