Personality

Riley has always been sharp and cool. He was never one to crack under pressure or be intimidated because a guy was bigger or had a better weapon.
He has always had the proper posture and manners. He is the product of high social class.
The year in the asylum combined with the preceeding year changed him from cautious to paranoid, from stocky and muscular to gaunt and sinewy. It made his eyes haunted and turned laugh lines into worry lines. He lost over sixty pounds in less than six months. He is still ruggedly handsome, but it is going to take time to get back to the way he was if that is even possible.
He is more like a ghost in his old life, or possibly a robot. He doesn't talk as much and smiles even less.
If you can get him to trust you or open up he is a great and caring person.

Equipment

On duty: a sig sauer p226 and a Glock 17
Off duty: a Glock 22 and a switch Knife

History

Growing up in the Connor household was an experience.
That was putting it lightly.
They had money, a ton of money. Money to the point that it was normal to go spend a month or two at the Grand Resort Lagonissi in Athens, or for his mother to buy Chanel No.5. Connor realized it was entirely possible to buy love because, other than his money, there was nothing redeemable about his father, and his mother loved him and her luxurious life style.
Riley's father was a generally verbally and occasionally physically abusive man with a need to exercise power outside, an alcoholic, a workaholic, and a sexoholic with any girl who wasn't his wife; he didn't really even live with them. He stuck them in a large luxury apartment and he kept a standing hotel room closer to his office. He worked overtime and then he worked overtime, a concept that Riley understood immediately the first time he met his father’s secretary who was a leggy blonde with the figure of Barbie, most likely courtesy of some of his father's money.
He was the man Riley swore he would never be after he got past the “I’m gonna be just like you Dad” stage of life.
Cats in the cradle and silver spoons, he turned into an alcoholic and a workaholic.
Riley's mom appeared to be the docile domestic woman, actually for the most part she really was. She was younger, but being younger only lasted for so many years. Narcotics and anti-depressants only worked so well though and soon she couldn't ignore the bizarre hours her husband worked even when they were supposedly on vacation. She heard rumors that the best way to keep a husband was to provide offspring and appeal and that her biological clock was ticking. The summer that Riley turned ten he got a little brother and nine months later a little sister. It didn't fix anything. His father never planned on leaving. He didn't want to be saddled with one kid much less three, and in a divorce she would leave all of them with him pleading depression.
He knew that.
Riley knew that.
Even the butler probably knew that, and he chose to not know a lot of things.
Riley barely knew his younger brother and sister, when he turned eleven his grandfather decided that he would keep funding his son's luxurious lifestyle if given custody of Riley to mold him into the man that his father should have become. Riley moved from Temecula to the North Shore of Long Island. His grandfather succeeded at turning Riley's interest to Legal work and began pushing him to excel in his studies. From the prepatory high school he went into Pre-Law, and from there it was Harvard School of Law and the Bar. He passed and the first job he got as new attorney was a call from his visiting thirteen year old brother who had apparently stolen a car, crashed it, and tried to run, that was not a fun month. He worked as an Attorney at law for a single year when he had stopped at a book store by the metro after a difficult case, he hated defending people he knew were wrong.
The year was 1998, and there was a new book on the shelf, Obsession by Douglas and Olshaker.
He found his answer.
He was barely twenty three and only had the three years experience by the stretch that he had held a job in his Grandfather's firm filing papers for another lawyer there when he was accepted into the Academy. At the end of his training he went into the SOU.
In 2001 he lost his first partner that he had been working with since the beginning during a drug bust, but at the same time he was quickly moving up through the team.
It was three years later that he made a re-acquaintance during a bo-staff sparring exercise that he was doing back at Triangle during a class that some members of different teams had been called into take.
He expected to fight a marine, not the fiery haired nymph that bounded onto the mat and bowed. He hated sparring red headed girls, not because they were red headed girls, but because the first time he ever encountered one his nose got broken… twice. Getting your nose broken twice when you are six turns out to be a very influential incident. (“Your hair is pretty” bam “I didn’t meant it!” bam) She had him on his back in less than thirty seconds with a quick swipe to the ankles, and when the instructor had called the girl off by name and Riley heard the words Lillian and Brown strung together he wanted to melt through the floor.
He didn’t believe that the twenty four year old ex cop was the same four year old that had punched him twenty years before until he made a comment about how in real life if a girl turned her back that soon she gave her attacker plenty of time to make a comeback and his nose cartilage met her fist for the third time in his life. Two days later they were on the same plane back to LA, in isle seats 22 c and 22 d. By the time they got to the airport Riley was ready to strangle her, and then she showed up at the office the next day with all of the required transfer papers.
It was a love hate relationship with them dating frequently until 2007 when Riley decided he could work with a cold after having been made unit chief only five months before. That would have been fine had they not been working an undercover case where he was supposed to be covering Lil. The suspect shot at him instead. Lil had turned to shove him out of the way, she suffered a shallow graze to her right arm, but the bullet pierced his left shoulder. There had been an innocent victim taken down in the shooting as well and Riley had demanded that both the victim and Lil be treated before him, at least until he blacked out from blood loss. His head hit the concrete on the way down and he was out for a week. The cold progressed to pneumonia that would take months to recover from and during that recovery Lil broke up with him. They had become a danger to each other by taking their personal issues as both lover and partner onto the field.
Two years later Lil died in a car crash during a high speed chase on the interstate, two days later his grandfather died of a stroke. Riley took custody of Lil’s nine year old daughter Kerri. Riley tried, but they took her away less than a month after.
Riley had taken his knife to the walls of his office and carved the details of the cases he had worked since joining the team into them. Afterwards he took all of the files and tossed them into the bullpen, letting the papers float down to litter the desks below. His brother was living with him at the time and had finally gotten nervous when he hadn’t called at three thirty that morning and he called the section chief after flipping through numbers for any familiar name in the pda Riley had forgotten at home after storming out.

So begins...
