Appearance:
Name: Ikari Sudou
Age: 22
Gender: Male
Extra Description: Sudou stands at about 6'2, weighting in at about 146 pounds. The picture above, taken some time ago, does not belie the fact that Sudou's build is slim but muscled and not at all thin or weakly. Significantly, he has a small scar on his forehead, just above and to the left of his left eyebrow; details of that shall be discussed below. His black hair reaches at the longest to his jaw, though he keeps it well out of his eyes during combat. His eyes are dark and foreboding, with heavy eyelids, and his cheekbones are high and pronounced against his pale skin.
Personality: Sudou projects irritation and annoyance almost all the time. A born pessimist if ever there was one, Sudou cannot help but think of what has gone wrong, what is going wrong, and what will surely go wrong in the future. In fact, every time he goes out to hunt a demon, he makes sure it is known he doesn't expect to return. He is extremely stubborn, sometimes almost ridiculously so, and absolutely hates not being in charge of himself and his fate; if he thinks he knows better than someone, he will refuse to budge from what he thinks. He speaks to nearly everyone, even those he counts as friends (fellow demon hunters) with a gruff, harsh tone, and most of them have gotten used to it. Despite this, Sudou is extremely protective of the demon hunters, especially those such as Yuriko, whom he considers something of a younger sister due to her sensitive and more peaceful nature. The reason for this will be detailed below.
Beyond the gruff exterior, Sudou possesses a highly sarcastic and cynical sense of humour--in fact, he will admit himself he can't help his sarcasm; sometimes he will make a sarcastic or cynical comment, offending others without realising it. Surprising to those who do not know him well, Sudou knows quite a bit in terms of science and mathematics; after all, he didn't always plan to be a demon hunter.
Likes: Being left alone (well, sometimes), reading, exercising his strength, exercising his intelligence, music
Dislikes: Demons, of course, Shikari specifically, sudden loud noises, overtly bright personalities
Hobbies: Reading, exercising, being a total asshat (because that is a full time job).
Weapons: Guns are of little use against demons, so Sudou instead fights using the only weapon he knows he can trust in: his body. Sudou prefers to take on lower and mid level demons using his own two fists, typically fighting by grappling them to the ground and destroying them. However, no matter how strong a human tries to be, there will always be far stronger demons, as demons have the capacity for superhuman capabilities of strength. Therefore, on such missions, Sudou utilises a blade known as a 'changdao'. Changdao swords have blades that can be up to 1.95 metres long, and Sudou considers it a very effective weapon against demons.
Skills: Sudou's main skill is his own physical strength, which aids in his hand to hand and physical combat prowess, though he is limited by the fact that he knows almost no technique and no actual fighting styles, simply fighting with all his strength. His second skill, though less useful, is his knowledge, though it is rare biology and physics is necessary to fight a demon.
History: Sudou's youth, despite the demon attacks that were slowly spreading, was relatively normal. The child displayed an early aptitude for learning and even from youth developed a desire for knowledge and success. He went through high school in a similarly normal manner, deciding early on to pursue a career in science. That was not to be, however. Soon after he graduated high school, his parents, well off businesspeople, attracted the attention of the notorious demon Shikari, also known as 'The Tracker'. He arrived too late, returning home to discover the gruesome results of the brutal killing. The authorities chalked it up to a mere human murder, perhaps a jealous rival, and left it at that. Sudou knew there was more to it, however.
When Sudou discovered at age 19 that he was correct, when he discovered that demons were in this world and responsible for his parents' death, he himself was marked by Shikari to be killed. Sudou was ambushed and attacked by the deadly demon, and was nearly killed, sustaining a slash to the head from Shikari's blades that remained scarred to this day. Sudou's life was only saved by the timely arrival of the Demon Hunters, who had been looking for an opportunity to corner Shikari when he least expected it. The demon decided Sudou was not worth the trouble and left him to die with the Demon Hunters. Shikari misjudged Sudou's injury, however, and the young man recovered with a burning hatred of the demon who had nearly killed him and had taken the lives of those he loved.
