a character in “Earth 2160”, as played by centipede

Description

Age: 23
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 150lbs.
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Scars: Various
Faction: Eurasian Dynasty (ED)

Ivan doesn't hold much of an intimidating appearance for a 23 year old. He's neither short, nor tall, standing around 5'8" and weighing around 150 pounds. His musculature isn't all too impressive either, so it's a good thing his weapon is a firearm rather than his fists. While he couldn't brawl for the life of him, he can run pretty fast, especially under pressure of commanding officers. He can run from cover to cover and flee from a losing fight. As well as fleeing, Ivan is particularly good at squeezing himself into a hiding spot, for both ambush and simply hiding from enemies.

Due to Euroasian lineage, Ivan's skin is lightly shaded, and holds atop his head a mess of curls that's normally hidden by his helmet in the heat of battle. His face is smooth, frequently shaven considering the stubble causes him itching and irritation. Underneath his clothes, there's a thin line of hair that travels from his chest down to his lower belly. There is quite a bit of scarring, mostly from being under enemy attack and being too overwhelmed to protect himself. That or he was beat up by fellow soldiers for whatever reason.

Personality

Generally Ivan is a fairly timid guy. Not the right source for the military but when you're a young man growing up in the Eurasian Dynasty, getting drafted to fight is somewhat unavoidable. He's quiet, he's reserved, and awkward at times, with an innocent sense of humor and a reluctance to fight.

As a soldier, Ivan is pretty much a wimp. He would much rather negotiate than resort to violence, but since war requires that he kill members of the opposing team, he has no other choice but to pull the trigger so as to avoid being labeled a traitor or deserter and be punished, possibly executed. He does what he's told on the field with guilt, almost hesitating in some cases. He holds high value in life, even in those of the enemy. Such situations has gotten him into deep shit before, and he tries to keep his heart cold as ice to the best of his ability.

As a citizen, Ivan is fairly lighthearted. He's creative, as expected of a painter, an artist enveloped in the old ways of art. Though it's a primitive way of expression, there's no greater beauty than oil paint smeared on canvas. At least to Ivan. Like so many Russian painter's before him Ivan took up a Victorian style of figure painting and he was pretty much scorned for it, whenever he was able to do a painting as such, which wasn't very often...

As far as the war is concerned, Ivan is unsure of what to think of it objectively. As a soldier, he wishes it had never started. He also feels ashamed, for his homeland starting the war and fighting in it when he personally doesn't agree with it. The war removed him from his family and destroyed any happiness he ever had. It also sparked within him an intense fear of dying in any matter (be it torture, on the field, or what have you), especially for a war he doesn't want.

Equipment

Ivan has the regular Private uniform and armor with the regular weaponry that Privates are permitted to use in the Eurasian Dynasty army. On the field, he picks up anything he can use that's most useful for the situation. His most preferred weapon is the scoped Sniper Rifle. He also has a cybernetic implant in the back of his neck.

History

Ivan had little childhood growing up. He had the expected schooling and found joys in painting growing up, as well as playing with his baby sister Anne, until he was drafted into the army at the age 17 after the evacuation into space. The war had started when he was 3 years of age and continued until he was 13, when they were forced to evacuate the planet. His home life as a child was tumultuous, yet empty. His father was already fighting in the war, and his mother was expecting him to be a finer soldier than her husband. She found art to be meaningless and often destroyed anything he created. When it came time to join the army for the continuation of the conflict between the Eurasion Dynasty and UCS and the LC, Ivan went unwillingly, going through boot camp and barely surviving. He was determined to live through it, so that in the event the war miraculously came to an end, he would be able to go home and paint. He always dreamed about it, and often wrote letters to his sister about coming back home and seeing her. Two or so years after joining, Ivan's father was killed in action, which only made Ivan's already bitter views on the war and the army even worse.

So begins...
