Itzala Khadesh
Image

Type: Darkness

Gender: Female
Nickname(s)/Alias(es): Ghoul, Gravedigger, The Mortician
Age: 31

Appearance: Willowy and gaunt, Itzala is very underweight for her size. Due to an unfortunate combination of birth circumstances, she was afflicted with albinoism. Over the years, she's tried to 'fill out', but can't seem to keep any sort of weight on. Because of this, all her clothes are somewhat loose on her, partially due to style, but mostly due to her beanpole-like physiology. Itzala prefers esoteric and strange clothing, things with lots of buckles, straps and zippers, though the one thing that is consistent with her outfit is the hat given to her by her mother before she died. She's made some modifications to it over the years, but it's her most prized possession, so she maintains it with almost religious fervor.

Height: 6'2"
Weight: 147 lbs.
Eye Color: Peach

Notable Features: Albinoism

Personality: Itzala is a mixed bag of emotions. Most of the time she's fairly happy-go-lucky with a side of jaded cynicism, though she can get the blues randomly or go through rage fits. She's completely schizophrenic due to her ability to see and hear the dead, and sometimes mistakes the living for her phantom counterparts, which has led to many accidental civilian casualties in the past.

Likes: Darkness, loud music, the Dead, cute animals
Dislikes: Bright light, salesmen, the Dead, jerks
Hobbies: Plays the fiddle, enjoys studying other styles of magic

Fears/Phobia(s): Spiders, Clowns, losing her hat

Powers: Summoning the Dead

Weapon: Magic scythe that can vary in handle length between 6 inches to 8 feet. Also carries a pair of super custom .45 pistols.

Personal History: Itzala's mother had never been particularly healthy, so it came as a surprise to both she and her husband when she became pregnant. The pregnancy was hard on her, and she almost died in childbirth, but the doctors managed to stabalize her quickly enough. Their first clue that something was off about their child was that she was devoid of skin color. The doctors assured her that it was a mostly benign birth defect, and that they'd simply have to keep their daughter out of the sun for the most part.

Throughout her childhood, Itzala continuously surprised and shocked her parents with her strange knowledge. By one year old, she was already speaking and walking, and by three, she could read at an eighth grade level. She never revealed the source of her bounding development, and her parents never asked, afraid to know the truth they suspected. Itzala never understood that her phantom tutors were actually the souls of the passed on, drawn to her by her ability to be a conduit.

When she turned six, her mother presented her with an enormous bunny eared hat. By that time, her mother had begun to suspect that her daughter was 'gifted', as well as the nature of her gifts. She told Itzala that the hat could listen to anything for her so she wouldn't have to, which brought the little girl a great comfort. Shortly afterwards, her mother finally succumbed to the illness that had been plaguing her for her entire life. Itzala didn't understand, tried to tell her dad that Mom hadn't really left and was still hanging around, but his grief caused him to lash out at his daughter. He feared what would happen if someone found out that their child was a mage.

One night, her father went to the government and pleaded that they take his daughter away and leave him with the bounty, as he'd become a severe alcoholic and gambler and need to to pay his debts. They came in the middle of the night, broke into her house and took her, but killed her father. They'd tried to separate her from her hat, but relented when she summoned a group of zombies from the ether to tear the man who'd taken it from her apart. Once they'd returned the hat to her, however, Itzala once again became docile, allowing herself to be taken away. She had no reason to resist, in truth. Everyone she ever cared about was with her at all times, so it didn't matter where she went.

Growing up under the indoctrination of the government, Itzala spent many years believing their lies and propaganda, though the dead around her slowly broke that control. She learned how to kill, how to spy, how to combat mages, and a host of other skills that were deemed necessary. Her instructors realized that she was no longer loyal through brainwashing, but also realized that she had no desire to join the anti-government mages. She was comfortable with her work, and as long as they didn't push her over the edge, she'd be a steadfast asset to their cause.
