"It's become terribly boring in this world..."

0 · 449 views · located in Lawless Period - Aurelis Continent

a character in “Fade to Darkness”, as played by DeathScythe386

Description

Image
"Is this a matter of hate to you?"

Image
Name: Milleina
”My name…is my own concern.”

Age: 17
”Likewise, my age is my own concern as well.”

Gender: Female
”Heh…I’ll be whoever you want me to be~”

Faction: Spectral
”I don’t hate you though. No, this isn’t a matter of hate.”

Appearance:”Aren’t I gorgeous?” Milleina is a young woman that stands at 5’4” with wavy, dark green hair with straight bangs and neon green eyes. She usually dresses in a somewhat, gothic Lolita style with a headband fashioned from bone and wings as an after-effect of her magic.

Personality: ”How boring…” Milleina is a rather sadistic person with unusual and exotic interests. She rarely bears grudges and she treats the whole affair regarding the extinction of mankind as some sort of game. With the way she conducts herself, there is an apparent sense of detachment to, even her own life, making her all the more unpredictable and dangerous.

History:”Ah…long time ago. Too much of a hassle to recall.” Born in the 58th year of the Lawless Period, Milleina or, whatever her name was back then, lived a rather shabby life as the only daughter of a widowed farmer, who treated her badly all the time. With the apparent family neglect, she sought out other places of sanctuary, eventually stumbling upon a congregation of Spectrals who schooled her in the art of magic.
Whilst she inherited the magic arts, she didn’t inherit the hatred and aggression, using her magic playfully without regards to the consequences. When she reached the age of 14, the Chrysalis struck her home, killing her father. With her newfound powers, she managed to protect herself and realized that, whatever emotion she had with her father was long gone. Realizing that no one is around to keep her in the farm, she headed out, taking whatever equipment she can get her hands on.

The longer she stayed in the wilderness, the more powerful her power became at the expense of her memory. Unable to remember her own name and past, she carried on, playing pranks on tribes and villages, varying from harmless to sinister to even deadly ones, some even ending in the total annihilation of the village.

With each year, she edges closer and closer to larger civilizations. At around this point, she was already near the perimeter of the territory of Lucrezia, where her powers are just waiting to be used.

Equipment and Abilities: Milleina, being the daughter of a farmer has very limited equipment, usually just salvaging whatever she finds interesting. She lacks formal training and has a simplistic style; practically just, wailing at what’s there until it’s not there anymore. Her magic is adequate and gets the job done and she relies on this most of the time.

Scythe – Her father’s farming scythe. She had refined it over the years though not really reaching the ranks of engineered Lucrezian steel. She mostly uses it as a tool for torturing and taunting passerby instead of an actual weapon. It is also used to parry blows and, despite the cruder construction, manages to hold up well enough.

Magic:
Telekinesis – Milleina has the power to move objects with her mind- however, she does have limitations. For one, she can only move still objects- for example, rocks, boulders and the like- but she cannot stop objects in motion (i.e, an arrow shot towards her). The object must also be in her line of sight, and will only stay under her control for as long as she can keep her concentration up.

Charm – A natural charm that acts as a sort of hypnosis tool. Milleina has the ability to command the attention of unaware passerby, bending them close to her will, to do her bidding. A natural recluse, it isn't an ability that sees the light of day all the time.

Biters – The Biters are two, black floating skulls serving as Milleina’s familiars. Mostly used for self-defense purposes, they have some combat capability, attacking opponents like a movable projectile. With their size, Milleina can also use them as a form of transportation.

So begins...

Tatsuo looked over. The Moonlight Huntress, as this woman was called. Well, technically, he had nothing much to do, and he had already closed up shop anyway...the blacksmith rubbed at the back of his head. "I suppose I have some time off. Alright then."

"So they finally left..."
Within the ruins of the village, green eyes watched through the thickness of the trees. Soon enough, a girl stepped out, looking about her warily before letting out a sigh. "And I actually thought that prank wouldn't be all that lethal...hm, well, the Chrysalis are indiscriminate after all..." Two black skulls followed behind the girl as she spun around to grin at them. "You think so too, don't you?"

Milleina walked around, glancing around the huts. Maybe these huts- or at least, the remains of the huts, she giggled to herself- had something she could use in them.

Cylla walked through the dim forest, watching light trickle through the leafy canopy in dappled patterns. She smiled half-heartedly, stepping gracefully over corpses and rubble. Reaching the town wall, she ducked through a gaping hole in the destroyed defenses. The Knights had already visited here, Cylla noted, as she picked up a ripped piece of a cloak. Sh decided to continue her own investigation, however.

Picking a path through the broken village, she tried to avoid the blood patches and piles of bodies. Someone had destroyed this place with no intentions of survivors. She glanced over a broken part of the wall, relieved to see Risim and her wolf... but then something else caught her eye.

A pair of emerald eyes peering out from the woods.

"Hm...? More people?"
Milleina surveyed the sudden appearance of the two new people who had visited the remains of the village. A lady with hair the color of snow, and another figure..."Well, I'm not particularly interested. Besides, there's a wall."

The green-eyed lady soon caught the other woman's gaze shift to where her position was, and she turned to the two, hovering skulls just behind her. "Seems there are more investigators here. We'll have to come back after some time or so..." These people had an aura to them, and Milleina didn't quite see them as people to play one of her pranks on. The Biters were almost already ahead of her as she followed the skulls again, disappearing into the safety of the woods again, scythe dragging behind her.
"Spectrals in the areas near here, huh...? Guess we're getting closer to that kingdom soon enough..."

The meeting was rather quick and simple. All Avicebron had to do was to re-inform the other lords and counts so that they'll be aware of the foreigner's presence. After all that was done, he retreated back to the tower on his property to take a little break from all the recent events that transpired.

"Goodness gracious...We just finished staving off a wide-scale attack and now this?" He wondered about the foreigner. "Will I be able to coerce her into cooperating with me? No, it's almost impossible. She has a continent to go back to; a place that isn't plagued with this apocalypse." The male knight walked up to him, trying to reconfirm his orders. After receiving his approval, he went on and left Avicebron to his musings.

"I guess the problem lies in the fact that her presence may ignite the spirit of voyaging out of this place in the hearts of the people. Escaping to other continents...If that happens..." He stood up from his seat and walked over to another window, showing a clear view of the harbor. Back then, he would've been greeted with the sight of the calm waves and the gulls flying over the horizon. Now, that view had been intruded upon by a large, black vessel ripe with the spirit of industrialization.

"For now, it's okay to turn a blind eye on her motives and actions. But, I'll have to gather allies. Someone who'll follow my judgement...The two yesterday--I don't think they'll be fine with being led. Not to mention that I don't know where they are. There was a third who seems to be plotting some scheme, based from what I've observed. Hmmm...the question is: Will our views align with each other? Or is she another obstacle? Only one way to find out."

As Avicebron retreats to his study to monitor his "eyes", he murmured something to himself. "There is one other..."

"The look on your face..."

"Hmph!" Rasiel pouted at Robin as she stood up again. She went over to the stash and arranged it neatly so it would be easier to load into the cart that they were given.

"The next one's ready but, this thing is a bit more fragile so we'll lower it down with the ropes. Princess, mind taking the other one?"

The two girls got to work lowering a large crate, one bigger than the first one. Once it was on the sand, Rasiel took a peek again. Pieces of black wood and some sort of stringy metal were inside. She wanted to take a better look but, the box was sealed shut and it might anger Asuna if she is to force them open.

"The next one is also ready--Ah! You shouldn't lift that with your bare hands Princess. That thing's heavy. Needed to push it all the way over here. Good sir, is it okay if we relieve the princess of the hard task of lifting such a rather heavy crate?" She addresses Robin and Rasiel.

"Ah! Now this is quite okay for you. They're mostly soft items so I'll also throw this down." Once Rasiel was ready, Asuna threw down the third box. Once again, Rasiel looked inside and saw several other playthings of sorts and, were they decorations? Rasiel wasn't sure. She took out a small, human shaped item from inside. It seemed to be stuffed with wool since it was soft and the hair was made of a thick thread of sorts.

"That's just a rag doll princess. It fetches quite low on our market." Asuna explains.

"Come to think of it, it looks like a witch of sorts. It's beautiful craftsmanship nevertheless..." Rasiel admires the...well, witch doll.

"Rawr!" She suddenly tossed it to Robin, just to see how he'll react. In the meantime, Asuna had finished preparing the other crate and was taking a look to see what's inside.

"So, these are the weapons huh?"

Avicebron's male knight rode on horseback, carrying a skeleton clad in armor with it all the way to the forest. Since his master was unable to communicate telepathically, he had to come up with a different measure of calling out to the other Spectrals lurking in the wild. He managed to convince the patrol that he will be buried in the tribal grounds in accordance to his will but in reality, it was just an effigy made by Avicebron to serve as a mouthpiece.

The knight dropped it off at a least traveled path in the forest, like what his orders dictated. Once a Spectral approaches, it would activate the spell bound to it allowing Avicebron to communicate with the outside.

"Kill them all! Push on and annihilate these bastards!!!" Flandre roared on, slaying mercenary after mercenary as she leads her unit back into the walls of the kingdom. In order to accomplish that, they must first get out of the cursed forest.

"Lady Flandre, the enemy seems to be attacking in waves. They plan to tire us out before killing all of us!"

"Have the archers cover our rear as we make an escape. Burn the entrance of this village! We have to escape from this alive!" Sensing the soldiers' desperation, Flandre redacts her kill order and commanded her unit to escape. The mercenaries gave chase only to be shot at by the mounted archers. When they were a good distance away, some of the knights toppled barrels of flammable liquids at the entrance and lit it up, closing the only means of pursuit on the ground.

"They may try to scale the walls--Quick! Run now while we have the time!" Flandre leads them on, out of the forest and into the open fields beyond. Some of the mercenaries who managed to pass the inferno in the village started giving chase but eventually stopped when the entourage arrived at the castle gates.

Needless to say, the situation was rather grim. Flandre dismounted from her horse and checked their casualties. She lost six soldiers in the encounter.

"We weren't even able to bring back their bodies...We apologize. We didn't expect this kind of development--"

"On that matter, I demand an audience with the high court! There is a matter we urgently need to discuss and we have to discuss it NOW!!!" Flandre almost yelled at the count inspecting their unit. From the tower, Avicebron was furious. He did not expect her to walk away from the trap unharmed.

"I'll need to make outside contact soon. The woman who passed earlier is rather too cunning. But can I use her? Come to think of it, what happened to the other presence I felt last time? The two other magicians I fended off are nowhere to be seen as well. What's going on outside?" Avicebron thought as he re-established his contact with the corpse he left outside, trying to catch a glimpse of the elusive magicians.
