Strength - As one may guess just by looking at him, Adam is a man of great strength, something which has always come rather naturally to him. He is naturally fit, but on top of that has the habit of lifting weights or jogging in order to clear his mind. This has led to a powerful, if slightly intimidating, form, only added to by his immense height. He can easily move heavy things or carry people. It makes him pretty handy in fighting, as well, even though he actually detests violence of any sort.
Well-Read - People have been avoiding Adam ever since his temper problems came to light, and so he often has to find others ways to occupy himself, filling in gaps once reserved for social interaction. He is a ravenous reader, and had read many of the classics, ranging from Jane Austen to Ernest Hemingway. He also is a fan of many contemporary authors and, to the surprise of many, is a large fan of poetry. Being well-read has allowed him to form advanced opinions on things, and gives him a vast library of quotes to use in any situation.
Observant - Adam often seems to be a man of actions above words, and this is one of the few impressions of him that are actually relatively accurate. It has also given him a gift for observation, making him quick to notice things about his environment and the people in it, even if they don't realize that he is noticing things. There are times when he can be quite sweet, utilizing what he has learned in order to help others, though these times have been increasingly few and far between.
Weaknesses
Violent Temper - Adam is not usually a very violent person, considering himself, in fact, to be a pacifist. However, part of what has prompted him to this pacifistic life is his volatile temper, which has led him to do things which he is far from proud of. When Adam is angry, he seems to lose sense of himself, become less human and more beast. His powerful strength can become a tool for destruction, and he doesn't know how to hold himself back. It's why he tries to avoid people and stressful situations- for fear of unleashing the beast.
Socially Awkward - Once upon a time, the young man was sociable, popular even, and had plenty of friends. That changed when he lost his temper and punched a kid so hard that he went blind in one eye. But anyway, his social skills have become rather rusty with disuse, and though he is intelligent and observant, he has become rather inept when it comes to normal social interactions, acting rather awkwardly. Everything he does comes across as a bit strained or harsh, because doesn't know how else to act.
Pride - Still, he resents any sort of pity that people may feel towards him on account of his isolation, having a good deal of pride behind his blue eyes and desperate attempts to remain calm. He dislikes accepting help from others, but more than anything else despises being insulted, especially when he views the slights as unjustified. There have been several girls who rather liked his face and his strength, and liked to entertain the idea that they could 'tame the beast' or some nonsense like that. Dealing with them has made him even more resentful of those who might try to change who he is.
One of the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to Adam Rouge for those who know him, or rather know of him, is a man who is prone to fits of anger that can leave those around him damaged in the aftermath, like a grenade that has exploded and harmed anyone in the vicinity. Unfortunately, they are not completely wrong in this statement, because he does have a very violent temper which, when triggered, is something that even he is helpless to. When his anger has been set off, it is as though some other person takes over, someone with no self control who doesn't understand when enough is enough. That person has scared most of the other members of the school enough to doom Adam to a primarily solitary life, and he has resigned himself to this isolation, coming to prefer the company of books and flowers over that of others.
As Adam does know about his temper problem, and wishes to try and control it, he seems to have this obsession with things that are supposed to be calming to a person. He drinks tea, takes naps, gardens, reads books, avoids stressful situations, etc; he does it all in an effort to prevent himself from losing it. However, all of them have proved fruitless, and the best method seems to be completely distancing himself from most people, for fear that he will be a bomb and that they will face more harm than he if they stay close for too long. This self-isolation has led to some level of social awkwardness, though that awkwardness is unintentionally hidden behind a front of coldness and arrogance. Up until he is angry, the man remains completely calm, and tends to keep everyone at an arm's length just in case. He doesn't want the pity or the sympathy of others, and finds that almost worse than the threat of harming others, only adding to his motivation to keep people safely distanced from himself. Everything simply stacks up as justification for his solitary nature, in the end, until he has created a wall so high that even he, with all of his brutish strength, cannot knock it down.
Don't be fooled, however, into thinking that behind the anger and coldness is a perfectly vulnerable and innocent soul. Perhaps he is a bit warmer behind the wall, but he is far from innocent or vulnerable. Social awkwardness should not be mistaken for this at all, because he sees and notices things instinctively, and needs no helping hand to show him the light in life. On the contrary, he finds such attempts patronizing, and holds those who try to help him in disdain, regardless of their good intentions. He can be an incredibly selfish person, actually, and often will ignore the plights of others for as long as he can manage. Of course, this might also be because he has, more than once, tried to defend someone being bullied, only to, in his violent temper, frighten the victim so much that they mistook him for another, even worse bully. While he does try to keep himself under control for the sake of others, it is just as much for his own benefit. No one wants to lose control of their own senses, after all.
