Name: Charlie Renold
Age: 37
Gender: Male
Role: Scientist
Appearance: A tension free fellow, Charlieās appearance strongly reflects his friendly disposition. Rugged, but likeably so, Charlie constantly exudes an aura of impenetrable charm. The scientistās signature piece of clothing is a primarily white cloak that is tailored to fit his particular body shape. Ending in the form of an embroidered tabard, Charlie wears the cloak over a simple āUā necked t-shirt. Mottled reds, dirty browns and oceanic blues make up the rest of his clothing, adding variety to his otherwise simplistic attire. Having hailed from the chilly regions that lay beneath a mountain, Charlie abhors the more temperate domains heās currently been forced to reside in. As such, he dresses lightly and gives off the impression of a Persian traveler.
Though seemingly unprofessional, Charlie always maintains a well crafted stubble that wraps around his cheeks and connects with his mullet. A gracious smile compliments his sunny features and highlights the triangular shape of his jaw line. Standing a modest 6ā2ā, Charlie is relatively tall, but far from imposingly so. Physically, Charlie possesses a lean and well nourished figure that gives off a false impression of athleticism.
Personality: Surprisingly ordinary on the surface, Charlie is well known for his casual nature. Generally considered as well-rounded, Charlie evokes a healthy amount of sensibility and skepticism on top of authority. Heās the type of person who is easily sociable but difficult to maintain a proper relationship with due to his prolific over analyzing. At times he can be blunt bordering on the verge of impolite, but Charlie is far from being cold hearted and often the goal of his comments is simply aimed at assisting others. Alternatively, his combination of skills enables him to be an excellent negotiator and frequently thrusts him into the more public limelight.
Not as methodological or calculating as one in his position perhaps should be, Charlie is nonetheless a genius, as expected of any person responsible for bridging the gap between the two alternate realities. Charlie is a brilliant innovator when it comes to it. His need to discover more knowledge can be insatiable, and even detrimental to his morality. Willing to compromise his ideals as long as the ends justify the means, the sciences are one area where his ambitions can overwhelm his rationale.
Equipment: Charlie is a fan of exotic tools as long as they are beneficial to his needs. Heās not particularly bothered by beauty and is rather more focused on functionalism. To these ends Charlie is most frequently equipped with nothing more than godās given tools (his hands and brain). Charlie is not a trained combatant of any kind, but is capable and willing to defend himself if necessary. If threatened he will use his combination of wits and engineering know-how to facilitate his safety. Alternatively, he can use his sleeve pistol, a single shot emergency defense weapon.
History: Charlie is a prominent field scientist who specializes in molecular engineering and materials science. Though his reputation suffers as a result of his relative youthfulness and hands-on approach, Charlie is one of the leading scientists of his era. Fostering a passion for knowledge and exploration of the unknown, Charlie was first drawn into researching alternate realities by his father. A philosopher who believed in the existence of other worlds, Charlie was enraptured by his fatherās extrapolated writings from an early age. By the age of ten, Charlie was at the top of his grade in terms of mathematics and scientific knowledge. His abilities earned the young boy distinction and a scholarship to one of the most prestigious academic centers in the capital city.
Charlie and his parents accepted, livid with their sonās achievements. They allowed Charlie to move from the rural and isolated township beneath the snowy mountain to the bustling highways of the capital city. Once there, he would live in a boarding house supported by the academy. Itās hard to imagine just how much one has to adjust going from the relative freedom of the countryside to the strict social routines of aristocrats. Certainly, traces of his heritage still remain in Charlieās carefree nature today, but as a flourishing teenager, Charlie somehow took the drastic developments all in his stride. It took no time at all for Charlie to adapt, or perhaps he was simply too focused on attaining greater knowledge to be bothered.
Graduating with high distinctions, Charlie was expected to have instantly become successful. Unfortunately, just because you are accredited does not mean you are employable. After graduation, Charlie found himself in isolated in an industrialized world, directionless. Where basic, hard labor was higher in demand than scientific minds, it almost seemed as if Charlie was born in the wrong era. Charlieās recruitment in the construction of the bridge was entirely by chance. Early during his college studies, Charlie published a thesis on the possibilities of alternate realities. The paper was inspired by his recently passed away father, and though radical in terms of its discussion, much of it was simply just hypothesis. Yet portions of Charlieās information was surprisingly accurate, almost frighteningly so in hindsight. Eloquent descriptions of another world that could be mistaken as first-hand accounts litter the coffee stained manuscripts and where at first thought of as the ramblings of a fictional story teller. Discovered after someone cared to flip over their paper weight, Charlieās ideas bought the attention of certain individuals who at the time where looking for people of his exact skills and vision.
In honor of his involvement for bridging the two worlds, Charlie was to be amongst the first to venture into the alternate reality. Between then and current events something occurred that has forced Charlie to work for the government, something they use over him as leverage.
