Personality:
Simply put, Eddie is not much of a people person. He much prefers to be alone. He has generally controlled emotions, so it can be shocking when he reacts to his surroundings beyond raising or lowering his eyebrows. Speaking is not something that he enjoys, but he is willing to listen to those that need him. He can be rather gruff, surly, and uncaring about the feelings of others. That being said, he is a natural protector and very caring about people with little provocation. He's a hopeless romantic, but he has difficulty expressing his emotions. When he does show emotion, it tends to be negative and severe. Despite his rough-around-the-edges attitude, Eddie is an optimistic man. He has come a long way to get where he is, and he is prepared to go farther to get where he wants to be.
History:
The childhood of Shiloh Edward Barnes was interesting to say the least. Henry and Tonia Barnes, in addition to being dedicated slayers, were doomsday preppers. Eddie was born a month early, about five hours after the couple's shotgun wedding. From the very beginning it seemed the two hated each other, and no one how they had even agreed to have sex in the first place, much less raise the resulting child together as husband and wife. They taught Eddie everything they knew about both slaying vampires and surviving in the wild before and after doomsday. After three years of marriage and parenthood, both Tonia and Henry had become alcoholics. One would expect a couple to remember their anniversary every year if it fell on the same day as their son's birthday, but it didn't stop them from forgetting both. Occasionally, the Barnes would make up long enough or get drunk enough to sleep in the same bed, and thus, Francis Everett Barnes was born when Eddie was five. Growing up, Eddie was enthusiastic and talkative, with a great zest for learning, but that all changed one night in December in Eddie's sixth year. The baby was crying, as he often was, in their shared room when their inebriated father stumbled in. Eddie pretended to be asleep while Henry "comforted" little Franky to silence. In the morning, the infant was dead, and the cause of death was ruled SIDS. From that moment on, the Barnes' home life was absolute hell. Both parents became violent, to Eddie and each other. Eddie no longer spoke much in fear that his father would silence him too. His performance in school started to drop, and Eddie found it nearly impossible to keep up with his classmates due to his then undiagnosed dyslexia. His parents thought he was stupid, and they put him in a severely underfunded Special Education program. When Eddie was just eight years old, he packed a bag and took the first bus he could get on, intent on never seeing his parents again. When he was found, he was put into foster home after foster home for five years. It was his third foster parents, whose daughter had dyslexia as well, that got him formally diagnosed, and he started to get the help that he needed to succeed in school. He remained quiet, and he doesn't speak unless he has to.
