Skyanna Houston's Story

Jacob Preston
It took less than a second for Jay's phone to buzz, notifying him that he had received a message. He frowned slightly though, even if Cara was one of those girls who was always on her phone, there was no way she could have responded that fast. His frown turned into a smile though when he discovered that the text was from Lacey. Even though they weren’t in any of the same classes they still kept in touch and expressed their hatred of their classes and teachers through texts.

From: Jay
Chin up, could be worse. I’ve got PE with the terminator. Dodgeball. Yay.

Jay after sending off a text to Lacey smiled a little and almost felt a little better about how he was going to be spending his whole next class. The terminator was their name for Coach Sanders and if you knew her you would know it was quite an accurate nickname. Before he could slide his phone back into his pocket though it buzzed again, this time it was from Cara; replying to his earlier message. Smiling at her apparent enthusiasm, he texted her back, of course making sure to look up occasionally to make sure he wasn’t gaining any unwanted attention from the Terminator.

That’s awesome. Now there’s no way I can’t teach you. How’s business treating you.

After replying to her text Jay began moving to the edge of the gym hoping to go by unnoticed until he saw one of the ladies from the office walking towards him. He could never remember her name, all he knew was that she didn’t teach classes and this wasn’t the first time she had come to fetch him from class at this time of year. It was just one of the negatives of being known as the guy who got along with just about anybody.

”Jacob, I’m excusing you from class, I need you for something. Come with me.” She said, all business like usual. Jay just smiled pleasantly and shook his head lightly as he followed her out of the gym, he didn’t care all that much for staying for the rest of PE anyway. They both came arrived at the main school offices where he saw a girl with wavy brown waiting for them. “Jacob, you know the deal, this is Skyanna, Skyanna this is Jacob, he’ll show you around and help you get settled.” She said, introducing the two of them, still in her usual, clipped, businesslike style. Once she had walked off Jay smiled at Skyanna, “Jay, resident friendly guy on campus, if you've got any questions direct them my way. I promise not to laugh unless they are really stupid,” he said jokingly before moving towards the door, motioning for her to follow him.

Skyanna walked into the school for her first day. New town. New school. She was worried. New kids always get picked on. She worried she would have no friends. She worried she would never get her first kiss. Would she always be the weird new kid that no one liked. When she made it into the principal's office, she was given a schedule, a post-it with a locker number and combination, and told to wait in the main office. She returned with another student, a boy. Introductions were made and she left.

Skyanna smiled. This guy seemed so friendly. He was cute too. She felt her cheeks get red. "Well I hope the rest of the school is as nice as you. I'm Sky, resident new girl." She giggled. "But you already knew that." Her bag was sliding down her shoulder, so she pulled the strap up onto her shoulder. She looked at the paper in her hand. "So I have locker 318. Where's that at?"

Jacob Preston
"I wouldn't get your hopes up, I'm pretty tough to beat in that category," Jay said grinning while continuing leading Skyanna through the corridors. "Lucky you, that's the locker next to mine, little known fact, last year that locker was owned by Dylan Rowland, the most popular guy on campus. He held all the best parties." Jay said with a half smile as they arrived at her locker, and he rapped on it gently, indicating that it was her's. "This one's your's."

"Why don't you put your stuff in there, get yourself settled and then I give you a tour of this place," Jay suggested before pulling out his phone. He had felt it buzz twice on the way to the locker area but he hadn't wanted to appear rude so he had ignored them. Scrolling through his inbox he saw the two messages were from Cara and Lacey, though he had expected as much. After briefly skimming over the messages he replied to them both.

Definitely just you ;) Don't worry too much about me though, I got to cut PE cause I'm showing around a new girl.

To: Cara
From: Jay
Well, I hope you keep your enthusiasm up. If you're saying ugh, sounds like it's just like business, and yes it is always a good napping class. Aha small world, I'm showing a new girl around right now actually.

After he had texted the two girls back he looked back up at Skyanna, "So who's your roomie?" He asked casually leaning against the locker next to hers. He hoped she didn't get a one of the many girl at this school who had large personalities. Skyanna didn't look like someone who deal well with people like that and they could be pretty hard to get along with. He was always willing to give her a few tips about getting along with her roommate if he had any though.

Dehlilah laughed and leaned on Mike. She knew Demi might be mad but Demi would get over it. She turned and yelled "Sorry Demi," she said wrapping her arm around mikes wside.

She turned and teasingly pulled mike to a corner that had big windows that were deep enough and wide enough so lay down in. once they got close to the classroom. "So what do you think about my outfit?" she asked as she laid down in one of the windows. She winked at him and said "C'mere I don't bite,"

When mike came over she kissed him lightly. Then as time went by the kiss became more passionate. She broke the kiss as her phone buzzed, much to Mike's annoyance. "It's Demi, we gotta get to class," she said lacing her hands in his and walking into class. She noticed a new kid surrounded by girls. She walked over to him and smiled "Hey, I'm Dehlilah and this is my boyfriend Mike," She said still leaning closely on Mike. Since Mike had a habit of being jelous.

She noticed Skyanna and smiled at her and waved. "She's pretty, I think we should invite her to hang out with us." She said to Demi. Then she greeted all of her friends. She gave Rosa a quick hug and smiled "How the hell are you Chica" She said as she returned back to Mike's side.

Sky giggled at all his jokes, not to flirt, but because she found him genuinely funny. She pulled a notebook from her bag and placed the rest in her locker. She waited for Jay to finish his texts before saying "Thanks again." He asked about roomates and Skyanna checked her paper, forgetting that part of the new school. "Oh! I have umm... Raven? Ashley Raven?" She hoped the girl was not preppy or snobby. Schools like this where full of stuck up rich girls who talked of makeup and parties and boys. Those people made Sky sick.

However, this guy, Jay, seemed gentlemany and kind hearted. Maybe this school wouldnt be so bad as the ones on tv. At the very least, she had met an exceptionaly sweet and funny guy. She had made a real friend. "So... What is tuis girl like? Or do you not know her?" She had automatically assumed he knew everyone, but just because he was new kid welcoming commitee didnt mean he was Mr. Popular.

Jay grinned broadly when Sky laughed at his jokes, not that he wasn't used to people laughing at his jokes, he just never took people laughing at his jokes for granted. Besides, she had a really sweet laugh. He began leading her away from the locker area to begin the tour of place. He stopped suddenly though, a frown crossing his face when she mentioned who she was roomed with. Ashley Raven? He didn't know an Ashley Raven, or at least he didn't think he did. "Sorry, I actually don't know her," he said slowly after a few beats before he began walking again. "Don't doubt my friendliness just yet though, I'm guaranteeing you this Ashley is also new this year. Or a freshman." He continued recovering smoothly, giving a cocky grin, he was sure this Ashley had to be new.

"Cafeteria, I promise you the food isn't as bad as it looks like it'll be," Jay said with a wink as they arrived at the cafeteria Admittedly it was pretty obvious that he had led her to the cafeteria, they food and table were probably a big hint. His phone buzzed again, notifying him of another message from Lacey, smiling apologetically at Sky, he typed back a quick reply.

Ahaha, no way. Everyone knows that we're close, the teacher will never buy it. Besides your freedom isn't worth me risking my own, you're on your own there.

"Sorry, I promise I'm not usually this bad, it's just my best mate Lacey bitching about business class is all really." Jay awkwardly to Sky after shoving his phone back into his pocket. He didn't really want her to go about thinking he was one of those rude people who were always on their phone. "So do you do a sport, or play a musical instrument or anything?" Jay asked, making small talk, that as usual for him, didn't seem forced at all as they wondered around the school. "Art rooms all along this corridor," he added on the end as the turned into a new corridor.

Skyanna frowned when Jay said he didn't know the girl. Then she laughed again at his school food joke. When she saw his smile at the incoming text, she couldnt help but blush. "I understand completely." That was a lie. She never really had a best friend to bug her. She was always on her own. "Art. I love art. No one can judge you. You are you're own person. You can be completely yourself and dont have to worry about failing or getting laughed at." Sky stopped. She was rambling. Great.

She turned bright red. "I'm sorry. I'm rambling. Didn't sleep well." She grabbed a small piece of her hair, tugging at it, trying not to put her hair in her mouth. Something about this guy made her nervous. It wasn't that he scared her or was intimidating. It was more like...he made her feel like she belonged. She was not used to that. Her blushing increased.

Jacob Preston
Sky had turned bright red but Jacob hadn't noticed, he was looking without really seeing as he lost in his own thoughts about what she had just said. After a few moments though he snapped back to earth and smiled gently at her. "No, it's fine, I completely get it," he said softly, thinking back to his mother, she had loved art and used to say the same kind of thing all the time. "If no one can judge you for it though and you can't fail, how come we can graded, and some people do fail?" Jay said raising his eyebrows challengingly.

The bell rang, signaling it was time for their next class, and he realized he had to now be back at school, going to classes and whatnot. Oh, well the cutting was fun while it lasted. "You ready to met a whole lot of people?" Jay asked jokingly as he placed his hand in the square of her back so he could lead her to english. It took only seconds after he the bell had rung for students of all year levels to begin flooding the previously empty corridor. Of course none of them paid any attention to the fact that you were standing there; you had to move with them or get trampled. So keeping Sky close to him he led her to their English class.

It didn't take too long since they weren't that far away from the classroom, and arriving at the classroom he took a seat, motioning for Sky to take the one next to him. "Don't get too comfortable though, Miss D, usually has a seating plan," Jay said to her, grimacing at the end. Sure he was nice to everyone and got along with people fine, but sitting next to the biggest gossip in the school, chatty Penny, every english class, had definitely pushed even him to his limits. He hoped Sky wasn't put next to someone like that though, he had only just met her but she didn't seem the type. He was looking forward to getting to know her more, he was certain Lacey would like her to.

Jay's phone buzzed again, this time it was, he had to take a moment to think about how to reply though. He still had to move his stuff into his new dorm, fix up his guitar and he had already promised Lacey he'd play something for her. He pushed all that stuff to the back of his head though, he was really looking forward to teaching Cara guitar, he'd just have to find a way to fit everything in.

Sure, I've got some free time tonight, I have to replace a string on my guitar but after that I'm pretty much free.
I'd have to blame that one on your year level not the class. Seriously, your year level is made up of so many girl with big personalities.
Skyanna, I think you'd like her, she seems really nice :)

Smiling he typed her back a quick reply before shoving his phone away just before Miss Dolan walked stalked into the class room. It was eery the kind of oppressive presence she brought with her. Almost all of the conversations had died out and the ones that hadn't had turned to hushed whispers and seemed to be coming to an end. She was someone who could make an entrance.

Eve stood up tucking her book away as the bell rang and the halls began to fill. She took a deep breath reading herself for class. She walked into Miss Dolan's english class, taking a seat in the back away from everyone else. She glanced at the pair that walked in together. Taking a deep breath she hoped she could just hide out in the back with out having to talk to anyone really. Hoping her newness didn't make her stick out like a sore thumb. She drummed her pencil on the desk finding herself glancing over at the two a few seats in front of her. Once Miss Dolan walked in she felt everyone around her sit up a bit straighter. Oh one of these teachers. Joy.

Skyanna willingly stuck close to Jay. He was sweet and the only person she knew, so she didn't want to stray too far from his side. When she walked into the class, he paced slowed and her breath caught. She was not a people person. The class seemed focused, as if the teacher was demanding. Great. Another stuck up teacher who demands perfection. She had a teacher like that at her old school. Did not go over well.

Sky scooted in closer to Jay as subtly as she could. "So... What class is after this one Jay?" She tried to whisper in case the teacher was super strict.

Jacob Preston
"Umm, art I think," Jay whispered back, though he had no clue he was just assuming, and after thinking for a moments he corrected him self. "No, I think we have maths. Don't quote me on that though." Looking away from Sky he found himself looking into the cold eyes that only a teacher who had been in the business far too long could possess. "Class, I'm implementing a seating plan, alphabetical order. Arrange yourselves now, A's start here, Z's over there, up the back. Go." She said causing an almost unanimous groan out of the whole class.

Miss D was a good teacher, Jay would give her that, but something told him she'd be much more suited to the younger year levels. They were Senior's for god sake, not ten year olds. No one would actually have the guts to stand up and say that to her face though, so everyone grabbed their stuff and moved to where they were supposed to be. "Sorry, Sky, you're going to have to spread your wings and fly," Jay said with a regretful smile to Sky, before giving her a friendly wink and moving to where everyone with P last names had begun gathering.

Jay couldn't help but smile though as he ended up positioned in the row behind Sky, directly behind her and another blonde who must have been new. Jay bit his togue and didn't say anything to her though, waiting for the right opportunity. "Class we have two new students today, Skyanna Houston and Evangeline Hazelwood," Miss D said, motioning to Sky and the girl next to her. After that though Jay tuned out, she continued on with her speil about the importance of english in today's society and whatnot but he stopped caring. He pulled out his phone and begin typing a reply to Lacey who had texted him early while everyone was moving into alphabetical order. Jay had no problem being open and honest with Lacey, if he couldn't be honest with his best friend who could he be honest with?

Oh thanks by the way for checking with me first. What plans? I may have said I'd hang out with Cara for a little tonight, but before i make any rash decisions I want to hear what my options are.

"Looks like someone just can't get enough of me," Jay said to Sky after a few minutes, before looking over to the attractive blonde who must have been the other new girl, Evangeline. "Hey I'm Jay, always good to see a fresh face," He said introducing himself, his usual, good-natured smile ever present.

Eve's stomach flipped as the teacher called her name, she felt her cheek start to red. She pushed it back and took a deep breath giving a slight wave to everyone that glanced over. She took her seat next to Sky, before she could say anything Jay started talking to them. She met his eyes flashing him an equally friendly smile in return. "Nice to meet you you can just call me Eve if you want." She glanced up at the teacher who was busy writing a novel on the board. "Is she always this..um..focused?" Eve tilted her head towards Miss Dolan. She stifled a n.smirk when Jay just nodded a yes to her question.

She looked Sky over with the same friendly smile as she had given Jay. "So do you prefer Sky or Anna?"

Skyanna giggled at Jay and then smiled to the other new girl. "Eve is pretty. And most people call me Sky." She was so glad to be making friends so quickly. "So what kind of stuff are you into?" She asked the new girl. She waited for her answer, then replied "I love music and art. Being me, ya know?"

Everyone seemed so nice here. Maybe she would find some true friends here. She had never really had real friends. She had only know girls and guys in her "clique" of people who didnt really talk to each other. She loved all of this, the nice people, the cute guys, and girls, and even the teachers, well sorta.

She looked up at the time, then back to Jay. "When is this class over?"

Eve

Eve smiled at Sky, "Well writing and drawling are my passions." Sky replied "I love music and art. Being me, ya know?""Yeah music is something I am pretty sure I would seriously die without."

She had a feeling her and Sky would get along rather well she seemed pretty awesome, and Jay seemed like someone she wouldn't mind hanging out with. She heard Sky asking Jay when class was over she pulled out her time table glancing over to see what the next class is. "Ugh its going to be over far too soon Math is next." She stuck her tongue out before it faded into a smile as she leaned back in her chair.

She was starting to be thankful she didn't know anyone, she was looking forward to getting to have a new start without everyone just seeing her as the party girl. Not that she planned to never party again just take it slower this time.

Jacob Preston
"Eve. Nice name, Jay said, as if testing out how saying here name sounded on his tongue. "If you don't mind though, I think I'm going to call you Evangeline, it suits you better. And yes, focussed it the best description words can give of Miss D." He grinned at her, trying to fake a grim look but failing miserably. Laughing quietly so as not to catch Miss D's unwanted attention he pulled out his phone that had just buzzed. He had two new texts from Lacey and Cara, respectively, somehow he had ended up in the fortunate position of having to pretty girl both vying for his time. Though he was probably talking himself up a little bit too much, Lacey was his best friend and Cara wanted guitar lessons. It wasn't exactly like they were both desperately in love with him, besides he wasn't nearly stuck up enough to believe that. He withdrew himself from the two girls' conversation in front of him as he quickly and subtly texted Cara and Lacey back.

Not a date, geez you'd be the first person I'd tell if I was going to ask someone on a date. I'd need fashion advice ;) Seriously though Cara wants to learn guitar so I offered to teach her. I wouldn't never skip out on you though, I'll postpone it :)

Yeah I know, I'm just glad I'm a year older than your lot ;)
Okay, I'm just going to say it, I may have overbooked myself tonight; Lacey wants to have some best friend time and you know, best friends come first. I think she doesn't really want to find out who her roommate is. You probably understand that, I don't really, then again I never claim to understand girls. So anyway, I don't want to teach you guitar any less, but is there any chance we can start tomorrow instead? I promise this time for sure :)

Looking back up after he had finished texting Jay heard the tail end of Evangeline talking about music. What a perfect time to jump back into the conversation. "Yeah, I get that music is like my life, I play guitar religiously. Obviously not today, but usually I take my guitar with me everywhere. My mum had started teaching me before I could even walk. He added to Evangeline's comment, laughing lightly, he still had the picture of him holding a guitar just weeks after he had begun being able to hold up his own head.

"Maths is fine, Miss T's really nice and understanding. Just don't get her angry," Jay said in way of advice, while mock shuddering. He remembers the one time he had gotten her angry, he hadn't been told about her temper and well now he has reoccurring nightmares of the very event.

Jay smiled apologetically at the two girls as he pulled out his phone, Lacey and Cara had replied to him almost instantly. After reading their texts he paused for a minute to decide what to send to each of them as a reply. Smiling after he had made his decision he typed back replies.

You should be jealous :p
Yeah sorry, but I can't wait to start tomorrow night. For sure. :)

Before Jay could reply to Lacey though the bell rang signaling the end of class and so he completely forgot about texting her back.


After the last class for the day Jay looked at Sky and Evangeline, smiling friendlily. "Well guys, you successfully made it through your first day," Jay said grinning like a proud father. "Normally I'd stick around make sure you get everywhere okay and whatnot, but I'm scheduled in for some well needed best friend time. I do hope you guys luck out the roommate department though." Grabbing his stuff Jay gave the girls a quick wave before taking off, he wanted to catch Lacey before she had left her class. "One more thing, when in doubt follow the crowd," Jay said quickly to the girls as a last bit of advice before he disappeared through the door.

Arriving at Lacey's class he peered through the window to find luckily that she hadn't left yet, so he leaned up against the wall next to door. Jay looked over the people still milling about the classroom, packing up their stuff and making last minute plans with friends. His eyes stopped when he spotted Cara though, and catching her eye she gave her a wink and mouthed 'tomorrow.' Then leaning back against the wall he waited patiently for Lacey to appear and when she did, he slung his arm over her shoulders, leading her away from her class mates. "Lace," He said through a smile, his own form of greeting.

"First of all,I just want to say, if Cara does in fact want what you claim she wants, why would you be around in that scenario?" Jay asked sarcastically, holding up his index finger, though it was shortly followed by another finger as he continued. "Secondly you're not that wonderful. Finally, you wanted best friend time and I want to hear all about your summer, so no I won't invite her. I want to have some alone, best friend time with you." He said smiling brightly, he really had missed his best friend over the summer, even if they had texted every day. It just wasn't the same as being with her in person.

Eve

She glanced up as the bell rang. "I suppse we have." she said in a smirk to Jay. "Thanks for the run down today Jay it was nice to meet you, you too Sky." Eve got up and headed out to the hall dropping her books in her locker. She glanced around at everyone grouping up and talking about plans. She sighed before headed out towards the dorm lighting up a cigarette as soon as her foot hit the grass. "This is shaping up to be a long year I think." She mused to herself as she reached the dorm buildings pulling out her number and roomates name from her pocket.

She leaned against the wall finishing her smoke.

Sky heard people walking past her room, laughing and talking. She wondered what was going on in the room diagonal to hers. She heard the music and thought it might be a party. 'I would go but what would i wear?' she thought. Feeling left out, she began to unpack, placing her clothes in an empty dresser. She put away pj's, her favorite ripped jeans, an old hoodie. Then she saw a dress she forgot she had packed. 'When was the last time I had worn this?! It must have been that crazy party sphmore year!' That was the day she had found out that girls appealed to her as much as guys did.

She looked to the door of her room as more people passed. 'I'm going. And I'm wearing this.' She grasped the dress and grabbed a few accessories from her bag. She rushed to the bathroom to straighten up, making her dark hair extra wavy. She finished getting all dressed up and admired herself in the mirror. 'Perfect party look!' She grabbed her phone and room key. She put them in a clutch purse and quickly made her way to the room with the noise. She stood outside, debating on opening the door or knocking. The music was loud so knocking may not be heard. On the other hadn, she couldn't just walk into someone's room uninvited. That was no way to make friends. She turned to face her room, thinking of just going back.

Rosalynd Sorbie
Rosa took a long drag from the joint Ems had given her, it was like heaven. When someone knocked on the door, Ems motioned for them to put the illegal shit away. Rosa kicked the weed under one of the beds and held the joint outside the window out of sight. When she saw it was only Jess though she brought the joint back to her mouth, taking a couple more long drags. Somehow a little bit of alcohol and Remy was all over the place, her nervousness seemingly forgotten. Except Rosa liked Remy even less drunk, rushing over to greet Jess, it was kind of pathetic. Rosa didn't feel like standing up though so she gave Jess a half wave.

After Jess had left Rosa immediately looked to Ems. "Okay I'm going to ask you to do something as a friend favor and you can't ask why," Rosa said, yelling slightly to be heard of the music. "You cannot hookup with Jess. Ever." Rosa said, her tone serious, not joking at all. She had heard the obvious flirting between the two and Rosa knew they had hooked up multiple times last year. If she left things the way the were the two of them were definitely going to hookup and Rosa was determined not to let that happen.

After a few beats Rosa rolled her eyes and looked over to Remy. "No. I don't dance, or at least not to this song or with you." Call me maybe, had to be the worst song ever recorded it grinded on Rosa's last nerve. Besides, Ems she'd dance with any day but Rosa wasn't nearly drunk or high enough to dance with the redhead. Sighing Rosa got up from her spot next to window and headed over to the door, that someone had just knocked on, though the other two probably hadn't heard it. They were far more into dancing to the music. Opening the door, Rosa found Kate and a few other girls from the year hanging out on their doorstep, alcohol in hand and no doubt some weed hidden on their person. Grinning Rosa drunkenly hugged the girls, giving them all kisses on the cheek, inviting them inside.

Rosa was about to head back into Ems room when she caught sight of a dark haired girl standing a little to her right. Smiling Rosa walked over to girl, and taking lock of the girls hair she curled it around her finger. "You should join us," Rosa whispered to the girl before, dropping her lock of hair and walking back to Ems room, before she disappeared though she turned and raised her eyebrows challengingly at the girl, leaving the door invitingly open. Joining back up with the largish group forming in Ems room, Rosa returned to her spot against the wall, giving a flirty drunken wink to Ems.

Sky was shocked at the girl taking a lock of her hair an twisting it. No one had ever reached toward her like that, and despite the shock, she was alittle bit excited. She was definately someone to get to know. And so was whoever was throwing this party. Skyanna knew what the look she had been given was. It was a dare to follow, and she accepted. She followed the girl, but at a distance, so as not to seem all too desperate to be on the "in". She saw her gather with a few other people and lean against the wall. The heavy smell of alcohol and drugs lingered, making Sky somewhat dizzy with possibility. She stepped out to where the girl who greeted her could see that she had accepted the challenge, and smiled.
