Description

Megan Hooper
Image

Age: 15
Year: 5th
House: Cerva
Wand: Black Walnut, Unicorn Hair core, 10 inches
Patronus: Rabbit
Familiar: A black cat named Cleo

Personality
Megan is a pretty quiet person for the most part. She doesn’t go out of her way to talk to people she doesn’t know unless it looks like they need help. Megan is always willing to lend a hand, whether by carrying someone’s textbooks to class or just bringing someone the remote from across the room. She’s been seen as a pushover, but Megan can usually tell when she’s being taken advantage of. Due to taking care of three younger brothers, Megan has a lot of patience in general. But if someone makes a jab at her family, all that goes out the window in a flash. You can mess with her, but messing with her family is off-limits. She tries to be as honest as possible, but she will lie for a friend. Megan takes her friendships very seriously and would do almost anything for someone she truly considered a friend.

History
Megan grew up in the Muggle world with her mom and younger brothers. The mom works nearly all day, and their dad died in a work-related accident when Megan was ten years old. She misses him, but doesn’t have any long-lasting feelings of depression over the fact. Megan has always had to help take care of her three little brothers. In general, they got along pretty well, but there have been times when Megan has had to rely on her vast store of patience to get through a problem.

Both of Megan’s parents were wizards, so she has always known about magic. However, she had never met another wizard, other than her parents, until her first year at Gaol. Her first two years at Gaol were a little awkward because of that, especially when kids her age would ask her strange questions about Muggle objects, but eventually she got accustomed to other wizards. She does well in all her classes, mainly because her mom instilled the habit of studying and doing homework at an early age. Megan was one of the few children to actually go to regular school before Gaol.

Her favourite classes are Potions and Herbology. She actually hates flying, and will avoid it at all costs. Heights have never really been Megan’s thing. So far, her life at Gaol has been normal. She hasn’t had any major problems with anyone and hasn’t really gotten into too much trouble. Megan is looking forward to her fifth year.

Megan Hooper

Fifth year. The year when O.W.L.S took place. The year that could make or break her future career depending on her scores. Of course, Megan wasn't extremely worried on that aspect. She was reasonably confident that she'd pass the classes she needed for next year, but it never hurt to take precautions. Megan wasn't going to be one of those promising students that went down in flames just because they thought they would breeze through these exams.

"Are you sure that you remembered to pack everything?" Megan looked over at her mom in the driver's seat and smiled. Her mother always insisted on driving her to Rhiamon Way just in case Megan actually ever did forget something. This was probably the third or fourth time she'd asked that, each time sounding more worried than the last. She didn't quite understand her mother's concern. It wasn't like this was her first year attending Gaol. It wasn't even the first time she would be buying her last-minute supplies by herself. Megan had started wandering Rhiamon Way on her own two years ago.

"Yes, I'm sure Mom. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine." The car stopped near the entrance and Megan jumped out. She opened the back seat and pulled out her trunks and pet carrier. Her mom stepped out of the car and silently hugged Megan. Before Megan could respond, she was already back in the car driving away. Goodbyes had always been hard for her. Megan waved until the vehicle was out of sight, and then she turned towards Rhiamon Way with a smile on her face. She'd already gotten everything she needed over the summer, so there wasn't any need to go shopping. A good thing, too, because the bookstore looked completely packed.

Once at the ship, Megan found an empty compartment and placed her stuff above the left side window seat. She always chose to sit near a window whenever possible. Watching the water gave her something to do while they were traveling to Gaol. Megan turned towards the door in time to see a small gray blur rush past with something in its mouth. "What the heck was that?!" She rushed to the door and stared after the thing, finally realizing it was just a small cat. Not really anything to get overly excited about, especially since it was now a ways away. Megan grinned and was about to go back to her newly-claimed seat when someone suddenly slammed into the back of her.

"Oof!" Luckily, the wall had kept her from falling to the ground, with the expense of receiving a large bump on her forehead. Megan turned around quickly and saw Thomas Erener on the ground, looking stunned. He was mumbling something, probably an apology, but Megan couldn't quite tell. What if he had a concussion? "I'm so sorry, Thomas! I should have been paying more attention." She held out her hand to help him up. "Are you all right?"

Blinking water out of his eyes, Thomas looked around the blurry hall, focusing in on the figure in front of him. "I'm so sorry, Thomas! I should have been paying more attention. Are you alright?" He closed his eyes for a long moment before opening them again, seeing an outstretched hand in front of him. Absentmindedly, he took the hand, helping him up. Finally getting a good look at the person he had crashed into, he saw that it was a fellow 5th year, Megan Hooper, a student from the the Cerva house. Embarrassed, he muttered another apology. "I'm sorry... I wasn't paying attention."

It suddenly struck Thomas as odd that Meagan knew his name. He couldn't think of any time that they have spoken before. He didn't know much about her but he was almost flattered she knew who he was. They had been standing there for quite some time before he realized she had asked him if he was alright. "Oh yeah, sorry. Yes, I'm okay." He looked down to the floor, an awkward air of silence between the two before he quickly asked if she was okay. "A-are you?"

Suddenly though, before Meagan could respond, Eric Green's cat sprinted back through her legs, hopping around Thomas's legs, almost as if to taunt him. It still had his wand latched between its jaws. Cursing quietly, he looked back to Meagan timidly. "Sorry... The er-- That cat has my wand." And without a further explanation he offered a weak smile before turning on his feet and going after the cat. I swear, I'll kill that cat! Running down the hallway, his eyes locked on the stumpy cat whose legs seemed to wobble at an incredible pace as it raced around the recovering Miss Nilaya, who was busy trying to catch all the chocolate frogs that were jumping about. Closing in on the animal, it suddenly stopped dead for a split second before it jumping into a compartment. Beyond annoyed, Thomas followed, swinging around the same compartment to see the dwarfed cat sitting in the lap of Eric Greene. Thomas narrowed his eyes at the elder student who was looking down at his cat, a stupid smile across his face before looking up to Thomas, his expression faltering slightly, but not completely. "Oh... Hey, Thomas." Ignoring his greeting, Thomas responded, a definite tone of distaste in his voice. "Would you please return my wand to me?

Eric raised an eyebrow, looking down at the wand that his cat seemed to have dropped in his lap. He grinned, pushing his pet to the side so that he can stand. Looking down at the wand he had in his hand, Eric stepped forward toward Thomas. "Sorry about that. You know how cats can get." He chuckled lightly as he handed Thomas's wand to him, who quickly snatched it away. "That's a nice wand. What is it, pine?" Thomas ignored his question, but instead responded, "If you don't mind, would you kindly keep that animal away from me this year? He eyed Eric's bruise before turning and walking away from Eric, not giving him a chance to reply. Thomas was going to spend the rest of the day in his compartment until the ship arrived at Gaol. Glancing outside a window inside a random compartment, Thomas saw that it was beginning to get dark. He checked his watch before returning to his own compartment, seeing that the ship was scheduled to depart in another hour.

Megan sighed in relief when Thomas was able to easily bring himself upright. She watched him carefully as he seemed to get his bearings. He looked fine, and he wasn't keeling over or anything, so no lasting damage must have been done. "I'm sorry... I wasn't paying attention." Megan waved away his apology. Apparently there was a distinct lack of awareness today already. Hopefully this problem wasn't an omen for how the rest of her year was going to go.

Thomas still hadn't answered her question, but Megan figured it would be strange to ask again. She looked him over one more time, just to make sure, and was about to say goodbye when he finally responded. "Oh yeah, sorry. Yes, I'm okay." Megan smiled. "That's good to hear. But maybe I should stop popping out of my compartment and you should stop chasing after cats. At least until we get to Gaol." She realized that her statement, meant jokingly, could be taken offensively and Megan bit her lip. "Sorry." It was quiet for a minute or two when Thomas suddenly asked if she was okay.

At that moment, the cat that had caused the two to crash ran past them in the opposite direction. Megan didn't even have time to try and grab it before it was almost out of sight. "Sorry... The er-- That cat has my wand." She grinned as Thomas began to pursue the wand-nabber. Megan waved and called out, "Good luck!" before gently feeling her forehead. Yep, there was already some swelling going on. If she didn't find ice fast, her head was going to grow two sizes! But Megan had no idea where to get it from.

Megan walked a little bit down the hallway to the next compartment and looked inside. It was Carella, a girl in Cerva as well. "Maybe she will know." Megan knocked on the door before opening it slightly. "I'm sorry to bother you, but do you know where I could get some ice? I ran into the wall."

The peacefulness never lasted long really. But at least her drawing was finished, she was glad about that. She rarely got to finish her drawings around Gaol Academy and she was never really fond of it. There was a knock on her compartment door before it opened and a familiar girl showed her face, her head slightly swollen. Carella didn’t really hear or see Megan since she had turned the volume of the mp3 up pretty high, but after a few seconds she noticed her from the corner of her eyes and removed the ear plugs, looking up towards Megan. She frowned, wondering what would have caused her head to swell.“Ice?” Carella asked, and nodded. She lifted herself from the bed and made her way towards the door. “I think there will be some ice in the kitchen,’’ she said as she opened the door further. “What caused the swelling?”

She gently took the girls hand and walked with her through the hallway, not really bothering to close the door. Not exactly smart of her, but no one would really steal something from her, at least, that is what she expected. She wondered if she was even known around the other students, she doubted as she rarely got into contact with them. Carella found the way to the kitchen and started searching for some ice, not bothering to ask anyone since she wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. New people made her nervous, they always had, from the beginning onwards. Perhaps a side-effect from her time at the orphanage where she was often scared and bullied by others, including the staff working there. The time there wasn’t always pleasant, but it had been useful. Finding some ice, she turned towards Megan and handed her a bag of ice. “There, that should help.” She stepped out of the kitchen and looked around quietly for a moment. She turned back towards Megan, hoping the girl would tell her what happened, as she really wondered what indeed did happen and now she wanted to find out.

Walking back to her compartment to make sure no one could steal anything from her, she dragged the girl with her into her compartment. She made some place so Megan could sit on the bed and put the drawing away and switched the music of the mp3 off so they wouldn’t be bothered by it. Furthermore, her compartment looked pretty neat, as Carella always made sure her room was neat and clean. Something she learned at both the orphanage and at home.

For a few moments, it seemed that Carella wasn't going to respond. But then she pulled out her headphones and looked up. Oh, her music must have been too loud to properly hear her. Megan was about to repeat the question when Carella repeated the last part. "Ice? I think there will be some in the kitchen." Megan would have facepalmed herself if that wouldn't have caused her forehead to swell even further. How had she not thought of that? "What caused the swelling?"

She was about to answer when Carella took her by the hand and brought her to the kitchen. Surprisingly, they didn't pass anyone on the way. This seemed a little odd. Wasn't it almost time for the boat to leave? Maybe her sense of timing had been thrown off. Once at the kitchen, Megan looked around for a worker. There had to be somebody around that knew where to find stuff. Carella seemed to know what she was doing, however, and quickly found a bag of ice. "Thanks. Now my head won't explode." Megan grinned. Carella seemed to be waiting expectantly for something, but before Megan could ask what, they were off again. They quickly made it back to Carella's compartment and re-entered. The door was wide open, which might have accounted to the girl's swiftness in moving to the kitchen and back. Nobody likes getting stuff stolen.

While Carella cleared a space on the bed, Megan glanced around the room. It was definitely neater than hers would ever be. "How did you get your place to look so clean? All I've done in mine is put my stuff in it, but it already looks messier than this?" Megan sat down on the edge of Carella's bed. A sudden trickle of ice-cold water in her hand reminded her that she had an ice pack for a reason. Megan carefully held the ice against her head. "Thanks again." Now that they were settled, she had enough time to properly answer Carella's question from earlier. She giggled quietly. "I had just put all my stuff into my compartment when a gray cat ran past the door. I stepped out to see what was going on, and a boy in my year slammed into me. He fell down, but luckily the wall kept me up." Megan gestured towards her head. "With a little bit of a price, mind you."

Carella smiled faintly and scratched the back of her head in a shy manner. “Oh well
I’ve been taught to keep everything clean at all costs
 So yeah
” She never mentioned her ‘parents’ or the orphanage, she never exactly liked talking about them. Well, she didn’t mind talking about her adoption parents, but just not about the orphanage. She listened to Megan, smiled and nodded. ”That makes perfectly sense.” She smiled again and looked around her room for a moment. “You’re in your fifth year, aren’t you? Where the O.W.L.S. take place. Those are pretty important, I guess.”

She had passed her O.W.L.S. without any trouble really. It had been rather easy for her, but then again, she had studied very hard for those exams because she had wanted to pass with one of the highest scores. And she scored highest of the class. She had felt proud back then, but now it had kind of faded and she was rather shy about it. She looked towards Megan and smiled. “If you want, I can help you tidy up your compartment. It does make everything easier, especially if you know where to find stuff and such.” Smiling once more, Carella saw the picture of her and Turco on the ground. She cocked her head, had she accidently let it fall?

Bending down, she picked up the picture and smiled, but there was worry too. She hoped her dog would be alright and just the same when she returned, but the vet had warned her that she might find her home empty, without Turco there to greet her as he would usually do. It pained her, scared her even. She hoped it wouldn’t be true but kept it in her head so she wouldn’t be that disappointed if she returned home and Turco would not be there. She just hoped he would be there, jumping, barking and wagging his tail as he always did whenever she came home. Even if she had been gone for just a few minutes, it was clear that they shared a close bond. That's why she had been rather unwilling to go back to school, but her adoption parents said it would be better for her, and that they would take care of Turco. She hoped everything was alright at home, and that she wouldn't get a letter that her dog had passed away and that, when she would come home, he wouldn't be there.

Carella sighed softly.
