Thaqotul smiled. "Northman, it is not just any old shadow that lives within the gem. Within the gem lies the mind of M'tun the devourer, our god. Your armor, on the other hand, is made from the metal from a corrupted ore deposit that we found to contain M'tun's soul, so thus, your armour contains it too. The soul cannot fully function without a mind to guide it, so the armor led the creature that carried the gem to you so that you could slay it. You see, at the beginning of the world, M'tun was a feared being who subjugated the first of dragonkind, and even the gods had trouble dealing with him. We, the Blackpyre, were his followers, and were the first Wyrms, as his infernal power caused us to lose our limbs and wings. However, one amongst us betrayed our god, and allied himself with a force from beyond daughtris that corrupted anything it touched, turning them into mindless beasts of a bluish - grey hue. However, it could not fully corrupt the traitorous Blackpyre, and instead he gained control of it! He became the Echanni, a powerful being that commanded legions of corrupted beasts and thralls with only one desire, to feed. The Echanni led his host against his former God, and managed to corrupt M'tun himself, turning him into yet another thrall and using him as a living conduit to spread his corrupting power further and claim more souls. At the sight of the downfall of our God, I was dismayed, and led mmy poeople underground. Eventually, the Gods defeated The Echanni and put him to death, before sealing what was left of his legions in eggs and cocoons deep underground, uncluding what was left of M'tun. We did not know what to do, as we hid under Ubarri, but our thoughts were distracted when a new race of Wyrms found us. These were taller and resembled the Echanni, we suspect that they were the aftermath of his corruption. Their minds had not left them, however, in fact, they were seemingly superior to most of ours. They took control of us with mind magicks and became a ruling elite, naming themselves the Goldcrest. The years under their control were terrible, but hope still remained. Whilst labouring in the tunnels, i discovered a gem that restored my will to me. When it was restored, i used my mind to connect with the shadowy presence within it and discovered that it contained the mind of M'tun himself! A part of our God had survived! However, i kept the gem and the extent of my free will a secret, playing the fool to the Goldcrest, knowing full well that they'd murder us all and destroy the gem if they found out. I didnt have to keep up the act long, as soon our 'masters' and ourselves went to war against the necromancers of the Ubarri, and during the battle I dropped the gem and it rolled away, and was carried off by wild animals. I was dismayed, but later the Blackpyre had a cause for celebration, as the Goldcrest were eventually wiped out and their hold on us vanished. We fled to our ancient lair once more so that the Ubarri could not find us, going deeper into the tunnels until we discovered the ore deposit I was talking about earlier. We sought to build a mechanical recreation of M'tun, but our plans were interrupted by th Ubarri and their new master, the last of the Goldcrest! You know him as your friend, Kelovius, and he used magic the likes of which we had never seen, manipulating the threads of fate itself to make sure the entrance to our new tunnel never existed in the first place! However, as your friend Janice said, it is entirely possible that miners from the other side of Daughtris spirited the metal away and fashioned it into armour. As for Kelovius, well, we are wary of him, as we just..........know the Goldcrest are connected to the Echanni somehow, and plus the fact that both him and your other friend, the......, you know.... hot tempered dragon, thinks he's a god.......oh what's his name!? Ah, yes, Bahamut, that's it! Yes, Kelovius and Bahamut are both mentioned in a prophecy that fortells the coming of a new Echanni. Whether they will end up trying to prevent his coming or hasten it is not known. For now they could be powerful allies. What we do know, though, is that a new Echanni IS coming, as more and more reports of corrupted dragon hybrids, the result of the Echanii's power coming into contact with humans, rising up from the ground and attacking are becoming more and more frequent. When he does return, he will seek to awaken the 'old' M'tun to spread his corruption globally, and then we shall all be doomed. However, it seems we have a 'new' M'tun to neutralize the waning powers of the 'old', you. If you become what you are destined to be, only you are the one that can defeat your former incarnation. However, as you can tell, the armor and the gem are not fully alligned to a human form, which is why the armor keeps shifting uncontrollably. Soon it will crush you to death, and the only way to prevent that is to allign the gem to you so that its power can keep the armor in check. However, the allignment process might be quite......unsettling, but it is the only way to save you and the rest of Daughtris. Are you ready to embrace your destiny?"
