Full Name: Elizabeth

Nickname: Ellie, Liz or Eliza depending on the person. She prefers Ellie though.

Age: 19

Class: Second Year

Role: Girl 4

Appearance:

Ellie stands at a short 5ā€™2ā€ having been given very few height genes from her parents. She jokes that her 6 foot tall twin brother, Andy took them all. Sheā€™s lean, like most professional athletes and over the years has become surprisingly strong for such a small looking girl. After being told time and time again after her mother left them by various family members that she looked just like her mother Ellie began dying her hair blonde. But most would say her most stunning feature are her bright blue eyes. Forunately Ellie was blessed with naturally straight hair so she often gets away with simply brushing it and setting it free.

Once Ellie might have been concerned with trying to look perfect and flawless all the time ā€“ but a recent heartbreak has left her not really caring. Well beyond making sure sheā€™s not running around in her pyjamas anyways.

Youā€™ll usually find Ellie wearing jeans and plaid collared shirts when sheā€™s in school and not training physically. Ellie believes school clothing should built for comfort and isnā€™t too worried about applying make up ā€“ having sensitive skin means most brands only irritate her anyways. But now and then sheā€™ll go out on a limb and put some eyeliner and mascara on for a subtle change. (But only if sheā€™s going out or she likes a boy.) A life in near poverty since childhood has taught Ellie that frilly things are unnecessary so she usually sports a pair of comfortably worn in hiking boots.

During training Ellie generally sports Capri sweats in varying shades of grey and racer back tank tops of whatever colour she feels like that day. Though, usually they range in from blues to greens. A comfy pair of black running shoes and a ponytail complete the look.

At bedtime ā€“ or really any time where she is hanging out in her dorm room ā€“ Ellie can be found in the white tank top she wore under her shirt that day and a pair of fuzzy extra comfortable pyjama bottoms. Fuzzy sheep print doesnā€™t belong in a demon-hunting academy you say? Well, youā€™ll have to tell Ellie when you see her.

Image

Ellieā€™s tattoo takes up most of her back, the body of the dragon resting on her right shoulder blade and the tail stretching around to peak out over her hip. She doesnā€™t really pay much mind to it, but she has noticed that it doesnā€™t look as fierce as the dragons of her classmates.

History:

Ellie and her twin brother were abandoned at 15 by their mother and with their father dead they were bounced from home to home with their motherā€™s family members. Each only kept them for a few months, six at best, before deciding they didnā€™t really have the room to help the kids and realizing the government assistance theyā€™d receive for doing it wouldnā€™t be more than was necessary to care for them.

Through all of the moves Ellie began to suffer more and more with the instability. She stopped bothering to make friends and buried herself in books and school work. Her marks excelled, but it was pretty clear she wasnā€™t as happy as she used to be.

So when they arrived at Greenwoods Prep a year ago it was the first time in years where Ellie finally felt like she could breathe. Sure there was the whole training to fight demons and saving the world from immanent doom thing, but Ellie was taking what she could from this: a stable home. For the next four years Ellie wouldnā€™t have to worry about moving and that was a security blanket she needed. So as far as sheā€™s concerned coming to the school was a blessing. Sheā€™s begun trying to make friends again and enjoying life.

She tries hard in all of her classes and succeeds in most of them, but martial arts just seems to be a weak point for her. Ellie isnā€™t the type to actively try to hit someone, so even in a controlled setting sheā€™s very hesitant about it. Whip up an elixir to combat the poison of a demon? No problem! Stitch up a bloody gushing wound? Piece of cake! But attack someone?

So sheā€™s been set up with a tutor this year to try to catch her up. She doesnā€™t know how much it will help, but sheā€™s trying to be optimistic.

Fears:

Ellie is afraid of getting too attached to people. When you get attached it leaves you vulnerable for them to hurt you.

And yet, she is afraid of being alone. Hence why she surrounds herself with so many people. Theyā€™re all a show though; covering her fears with an entourage of people she can hide herself in.

She is also afraid of the idea of being parted on a permanent basis with her brother. Him being the only stable thing in her life to this point she takes comfort in knowing heā€™s always around. Heā€™s the only one she can rely on and share her true thoughts with because he can see through the act. She worries that after school ends they might be separated but trusts that neither of them would let that happen.

Personality:

On the surface Ellie is bubbly, flirty and charismatic with people. She loves a good playful debate, but usually tries to avoid any kind of serious confrontation. Often a peacemaker she is the type who usually gets people to talk about their issues without revealing any of her own. The only one who gets her to talk like that is her brother ā€“ she isnā€™t worried about what her brother will think of her. Heā€™s seen her through everything so she trusts him as a confidant.

Sheā€™s actually more of a lover than a fighter, so sheā€™s often confused as to why sheā€™s been accepted to this school ā€“ but one of the professors has assured her in her first year that it just takes a real dangerous situation to make even the gentlest people rise to protect the ones they love. Though not really convinced Ellie wants to believe she can be of some help in this war.

She resents her mother for leaving and because of that refuses to talk about her life before Greenwoods. She has decided to live in the here and now and is happy about that.

One of the few friends she actively seeks out on the campus is Evie. Even though her brother and Evie arenā€™t dating anymore Ellie enjoys her company.

Love interest:

After breaking up with a boy from third year Ellie isnā€™t much interested in trying to find another relationship right now. She took the break up hard and was hurt pretty bad ā€“ though she expects he hurt more by the time her big brother was done with him. Now he wont even meet her gaze.

Other:

Ellie secretly really wants a kitten. But sheā€™s not sure whether or not the school would let her have one.

So begins...

Having woken before her alarm Ellie had already finished the medial tasks of the morning. After a hot shower, brushing and drying her hair and giving her teeth a good scrub she had nearly felt human. For the day sheā€™d chosen a pair of well worn in skinny jeans (that some would argue were a bit too big because they didnā€™t stick to her legs like spandex}, a white tank top and a green plaid flannel shirt that seemed to brighten up her eyes. After brushing her hair into a side ponytail she stuffed her feet in her boots, scooped up her book bag and headed for breakfast.

Since she was early breakfast was an unusually dull affair. No one she knew was wandering about yet so she grabbed a bowl of oatmeal and some cranberries and ate while reviewing her school schedule for this term. In particular the little asterisk at the bottom in bold that read:

* Student will receive extra lessons in Martial Arts outside planned school curriculum. Student tutor will be Ethan Barrett.

It went on to list some contact information, mainly a dorm room number.

Ellie sighed. Martial Arts tutoring on top of her school schedule? She supposed she should be grateful the guy was willing to help her get caught up ā€“ but all she really felt was dread. More Martial Arts classes. That meant twice as many as last year and last year she was a total flop. She was all right with remembering the forms and going through the motions during the exercisesā€¦but sparringā€¦ whenever she had to actually use the skills against someone she chickened out.

Her brother, Drew, didnā€™t believe her at first. She had no trouble swatting him when he irritated her. But just hitting random strangers was somehow harder.

More students were starting to mill into the cafeteria. Polishing off her oatmeal she decided she better check and make sure said brother was awake. If he didnā€™t get motoring soon heā€™d actually miss breakfast entirely. And he was a crusty guy when he didnā€™t eat.

So she stuffed the schedule back into her bag and got ready to leave. Putting her dishes up for one of the cafeteria ladies Ellie grabbed a blueberry muffin (just in case) and headed for door. Walking across the grass in the sunlight she curled the top of the brown bag for the muffin and used it as a handle.

Opening the door to the boysā€™ dormitory building Ellie slipped inside quietly. Something about being the boys dorm always made her feel like she was breaking some kind of code ā€“ even though it was okay with the rules so long as it wasnā€™t after lights out. That and the halls, even on the first day, always had the hinted scent of old socks.

And just as she entered she realized her brother wasn't in the building at all. No one really knew how it worked that they could tell things like that - but Ellie would have bet all of her life savings that she was right. Oh well, she had to cross the dormitory to get to her first class anyways, she she decided she'd just pass through and act like it wasn't a mistake at all.

In passing the halls she thought she recognized one of the numbers on the doors and paused. Isnā€™t that the number of my would-be tutor? Ellie wondered and fished the paper out of her bag again. Yup, thatā€™s the right room number. Maybe I should say hiā€¦

As she approached the door it opened and Ellie squeaked in surprise. She hadnā€™t expected him to be getting ready to leave when she was about to knock.

ā€œI uhm, erā€¦wellā€¦ā€ she stammered for a moment knowing he must think she was a total goof. Shaking her head she cleared her thoughts. ā€œI mean hi, I uhm, Iā€™m Ellie. Youā€™re supposed to be tutoring me in Martial Arts this year and I was passing by so I thought I should say hi or something and yeahā€¦ Sorry if Iā€™m interrupting something.ā€

Now that she was speaking decent English Ellie got a chance to size up her new tutor. Okay, lets be honest, she was checking him out. And to her conflicting dismay and elation he was pretty easy on the eyes, nay gorgeous when you got a good look at him. Sheā€™d probably passed the guy a zillion times in the hall last year and wouldnā€™t have noticed him, but on close inspection he wasnā€™t too shabby at all.

Great, how am I supposed to hit him if heā€™s good looking? she thought helplessly.

Ethan Barrett

Ethan had lost his shoes. He had either forgotten while packing that footwear was important, or he simply forgot to put them in his suitcase.
Whichever was true, as Ethan searched for the missing shoes he began to wish that he had checked to make sure he brought everything. He'd also forgotten extra clothes and school supplies, which was just absolutely fantastic. He'd have to go out to the tiny little town near the school and replace everything... he hated that place.
Did they even have a shoe store?

Ethan frowned at the mess that now scattered the floor. He had tossed everything out of the bags and suitcase in attempt to find the items, but nada, none of it was there.
To others, the problem of losing a few things may not be much of an issue, but to Ethan... he was irresponsible, wasn't he? Forgetting things, misplacing them, being a stupid idiot. No wonder his father looked like he wanted to smack him upside the head sometimes, Ethan couldn't even remember to bring.. what was it now? Socks?
Very professional.

The boy shook it off and headed towards the door again. He had already decided he was going to leave his dorm and actually do something (though, mind him, his history class was fast approaching) for once. Losing a shirt, two pairs of shoes, and apparently all of his socks except the pair he was wearing wasn't going to keep him cooped up. Oh, no sir! He was... probably just going to walk to his first class and get a head start on the lesson. Very exciting stuff, you know. But the orientation that he usually attended was no doubt over by now and... to be honest Ethan wasn't interesting enough to have more things to do.

He pulled the handle and was about to step out of his room before noticing that someone was blocking his way. A girl, in fact. What were Ethan's thoughts as she stumbled for what to say?
She's short.
"I mean hi, I uhm, Iā€™m Ellie. Youā€™re supposed to be tutoring me in Martial Arts this year and I was passing by so I thought I should say hi or something and yeahā€¦ Sorry if Iā€™m interrupting something."
The girl said, earning an amused smile from the boy she was talking to.
She was the one he was going to be tutoring? Really? Briefly Ethan wondered if it was a joke. Ellie was so small looking, it was hard to imagine her kicking people around.

"You probably already know of me then, but I'm Ethan." He introduced himself, once again giving a smile. "And don't worry about it," Ethan continued, quickly excusing her apology, "It's not like I've got much to do at the moment anyways." While talking, the boy racked his brain for any knowledge about Ellie. He had to know at least something about her, didn't he? Maybe not... names and faces seemed to slip by him despite everyone else being able to know every little detail. He wasn't surprised that Ellie was completely new to him.
"So! You're a second year, aren't you? I think I might have seen you around last year.." Ethan lied, trying not to sound like he had no clue who the heck Ellie was. Hopefully he wasn't just coming off as creepy.

Ellie listened to the older boy and smiled when he fibbed about seeing her in the halls. She was pretty good at picking out lies, but at least this guy was trying not to hurt her feelings. He obviously wasnā€™t doing it to flatter her ā€“ which was actually kind of charming in its own way since most guys only seemed to care about that one thing. So talking to one that was fibbing about recognizing her, but otherwise sincere was refreshing.

ā€œYou donā€™t have to pretend to remember me for my sake, Ethan. Good guess though, I am definitely a second year,ā€ Ellie said laughing good naturedly as she tucked a lock of honey gold hair behind her ear. ā€œIā€™m really actually not sure who you are either. Your name and room number was on my schedule sheet.ā€ Realizing that could be taken as offensive she felt her cheeks flush a little and smiled awkwardly.

If there was anything she could change about herself it was how easily she blushed. She blushed when she was embarrassed, blushed when she was shy, blushed when she felt awkward and heck, sometimes she blushed remembering times she blushed. ā€œI mean, Iā€™m sure weā€™ve passed each other in the halls at some point or another, but really, the school is huge ā€“ we cant be expected to remember everyone. Right?ā€

She hesitated looking over his facial features for any sign of annoyance and shrugged. ā€œI just kind of wanted to break the ice while I was in the area. I mean, seeing as youā€™re going to be kicking my butt all over this school soon we might as well know each otherā€™s faces, right? Iā€™m Elizabeth Burke, but you can call me Ellie.ā€

She offered her hand to shake and grinned. ā€œAs you may have guess Iā€™m crap at martial arts. So Iā€™m sorry in advance for being a total pain and putting more work in your schedule. Thank you for being willing to try to teach me.ā€

When the girl admitted that she in fact didn't know who he was, either, Ethan felt both a mix of surprise and relief. Did she really have no idea? That was... good. If he hadn't been the one who was going to be tutoring her, it would have been one less person who would ask him 'Ethan, can you help me with this?' But then again, Ethan wasn't sure if he would have had a problem accepting. The girl seemed nice enough. She was... pleasant.
Her light face was also now a deep shade of pink.

"I mean, Iā€™m sure weā€™ve passed each other in the halls at some point or another, but really, the school is huge ā€“ we cant be expected to remember everyone. Right?"
She said, an attempt in which Ethan assumed to be covering up the fact that she hadn't heard of him. He wasn't at all offended, not even surprised. Come to think of it, nearly everyone he ran in to always asked if he was really Ethan. They hadn't been bothered to learn what his face looked like, they were just busy chatting about how his father was a Council member.
It's not really you they're impressed with. Ethan's thoughts chided at him. You're the boring boy who does nothing.

The girl in front of him introduced herself as Ellie and apologized in advance for being a bother to him. Ethan raised an eyebrow. "Nah, you can't be too bad." He assured her, a slight grin appearing on his face. "And even if you are completely terrible, it's not like there's a set deadline. I don't have much else to do with my time anyways." He explained, not realizing his words could have come off as rude until after he spoke them.

"I mean... no, that's not what I meant." Ethan corrected, quickly trying to assemble the rights words. "Putting time aside for you isn't a last option, I volunteered and I want to, but-" he stopped himself from saying any more and felt his face grow hot with embarrassment. Ethan's skills didn't fall into place with interacting with people. This was humiliating. He actually liked talking to Ellie, but very thought running through his head at the moment was telling him to say his goodbye to her and leave.

"When you have some free time, feel free to come by and tell me when you're available for tutoring. My schedule's fairly flexible, so there shouldn't be many problems on my part." Alright, good. He didn't stumble over his words this time. "Anyway, I actually have somewhere I should be getting to, but we can talk more later if you'd like. Sometime, I guess..." Ethan added. His words trailed off into an embarrassed mumble, but hopefully he managed to get his point across.

He didnā€™t seem phased that she didnā€™t know who he was. Not really anyway, a little surprised perhaps. Ellie realized then that he must have been fairly popular around the school ā€“ at least in name. This only made her feel all the more awkward about not knowing him, but at least he didnā€™t seem to mind.

He in turn floundered a little, trying to retract a comment that may have come off as tactless, and Ellie actually grinned. At least she wasnā€™t the only one tripping over words and trying to me polite.

She was relieved that he didnā€™t seem to be an arrogant jock. No offense to her brother butā€¦ well Drew had tried to tutor her before when she had first started to struggle with the whole fighting bit of the school and she didnā€™t find it helpful at all. Ethan, so far, seemed deeper than that. She liked it.

Then he mentioned getting her schedule from her when she had time and that he had to get going. Ellie nodded to the invitation to talk more later and smiled. ā€œSure. I have to pick an elective class still, sometime today anyways, so Iā€™ll get my availability to you at the latest sometime tomorrow,ā€ she promised brushing an escaped lock of her hair back behind her ear. ā€œSay, now that weā€™re not strangers weā€™ll notice each other in the halls,ā€ she added as a joke with a wink of her eye. ā€œSee ya around, Ethan.ā€

Then she turned and headed down the hall toward the doors exiting the building that would face the school. She had to find either Evie or Drew, they could help her with deciding on an elective and she could pout to them about having to try to muster up the will power to hit a good looking tutor.
