Considered a some-how balanced version of bubbly, and shy girl, Kate seems to lead a life matching the idiom, 'living out of a suit case.' Despite what most people think, due to her loving attitude, she is almost always on edge, and uncomfortable. On the outside, she seems calm and collected, like she almost always knows what to say when something needs to be said, and if it doesn't, she'll say something nice anyways. She's got a flirty purr to her, but not overbearingly so. Often she makes kind touches at jokes, hinting humor to both lighten moods, and make whatever the situation is more fun. Kate has a tendency to happily introduce herself to others, and is good at keeping conversation's going by asking nice, but not prying questions, seeming genuinely interested in them, and their well being.
But those who get to know her, often see another side to her, a second side. Her generosity, and all around affection has found its way into her lifestyle for reasons unusual to most people. Although she probably doesn't realize it herself, she's terrified of disapproval. She doesn't want anything more than approval, not because she wants to have a feeling of succeeding, but because she doesn't want to let others down. She's convinced it's the reason her parents left her, well now just her father, but why she wasn't good enough for her mother. She has an impractical doubt of herself and everything she does. Except for in one way. She knows she is good at hiding it, and not letting people in. She's learned how to build up bridges without letting people know they're there. Probably her greatest feat, if you asked her.
As far as hobbies go, she is a dancer by nature. Her thin yet super tall figure makes her perfect for ballet, and though she only has what she learned while she was young, she had developed it, and picked up things as she grew older, keeping it as something she does.
The reason for her strangeness lies beneath her childhood. After having her goddess mother abandon her at birth, her heart broken father nearly hated her. He was a rich, and powerful man, but it must've gotten to a point where he couldn't stand looking at his daughter any more, the product of the only woman who had ever broken his heart. They had met when he was summering in France, and though they only hung out for a few days, he thought it was love at first sight. At the end of the week, they had both left, assuming they would never meet again, and he went off to start the biggest corporate company on that side of the states. A few years later, once his company was near it's full destiny, she returned, for long enough to become pregnant, and give birth, and then, just like that, she was off. he tried to get over the heartbreak he went through, but it had been the only time he had ever been in love, and for him, that was enough to justify it. Kate was a constant reminder of the young, seemingly infinite ball of energy that her mother projected at all times, as was her name. The first thing her father had learned about the mystery woman had been her greek heritage, and that she wanted to name their daughter Katharyn, a greek version of the common name. At first, he just spent as many hours at the office as he could, and for the few hours he was home, he would either be asleep, or yelling at Kate. When she was 9, he couldn't take it any more, and he kicked her out. She tried living with a distant family member, but she didn't like it, and as most homeless do, she took to the streets. There, she encountered the first halfblood she would meet. An incredible son of Hephaestus, his powers impressed her. He more or less raised her, not knowing she was a Demigod, like him. She didn't find that out until she was 13, the same day she saw him die.
After making a quick steal from a rich couple walking down the road by bumping into them, and pulling some cash out of their pocket. She sprinted as fast as she could, till her lungs burnt, arriving at their daytime meetup spot, an alleyway a few blocks down from the main street. As she rounded the corner into the alleyway, her feet had stopped quick, her head confused as she saw creatures that looked like beasts attacking and fighting with her knew friend. It took him a second to realize that if she was able to see them, she must be like him. He mouthed run, taking a spare second to throw his backpack to her, before being tackled to the ground by the beasts. Knowing he had known best, she did as he said. Kate didn't stop until she literally fell to the ground for lack of breath, very confused as to why he had given her his backpack, but clinging to it none the less. When she opened it, she found files of research facts and lab test results based on demi gods, and a documented few pages of him saying the signs that she may be one. The last paper in it said an address and directions, to where she did not know. And though it took years of building up courage and training herself for what the place held, she has finally decided she is going to go.
It's her first year at Half-Blood Village.
