The eldest son of Yonador's chief magical advisor, this skilled magician has been sent to stop the twelve princesses on their quest.
Stubborn, proud, and determined, Cavaroth sees everything in life as a challenge. And when he sets a goal in his mind, there is no stopping him until he achieves it. Not only is he incredibly ambitious, but he's extremely competitive as well. In his mind, a victory is even sweeter if he defeated somebody else to achieve it. Despite his arrogance, he is always striving to be better, hungry for more power.
Although Cavaroth looks like a man of brute force, he is also very logical. Cold and calculating, he makes decisions based on what would most benefit him and bring him toward his goals, often without regard to his emotions or the welfare of others. At the same time, he is not malicious and doesn't waste lives unnecessarily; he simply does what he has to do. He has no emotional ties or strong loyalties to anyone, living by his agenda and his alone. (Even his supposed loyalty to the king of Yonador comes from his hatred of the country's nobility and his desire to leave someday.) He has frequently been called heartless, and he would not completely disagree with that.
What distinguishes Cavaroth from a ruthless killer is his sense of honor. If he cannot defeat his opponent face-to-face, then it is a hollow victory at the most. If he must resort to killing his enemies in their sleep, then he is not truly a man. Against petty obstacles, he has no qualms about getting his hands dirty. But when he faces an adversary he truly respects, his sense of pride and dignity has been known to hinder his logic; even when it's sensible to run away, Cavaroth feels compelled to hold his ground and fight an enemy. To him, that is the only true way to achieve a victory.
Cavaroth is the perfect combination of strength and wits, and when given the opportunity, he can leave a path of destruction in his wake. He is an enemy to C'elladore by birth alone. In actuality, he is very much a loner.
In battle, Cavaroth's weapons of choice is a large axe, but he keeps a couple small daggers in his belt in case he ever needs them. In his satchel, he carries a few magic potions and a spell book he stole from his father's chamber. On his journey, a group of about a dozen knights have come to accompany him, and he travels by his horse, whom he calls Eveanelle.
Born to one of the most highly respected magical families in Yonadore, Cavaroth lived a very comfortable life. However, he always had his work cut out for him. From a young age, he had to start learning the ways of magic, and he picked up the craft very quickly. In fact, he had progressed so quickly that he soon became bored with the simple spells he had been given. Although he continued to learn the ways of magic, he quickly became enthralled with the idea of battle. As the eldest son of the king's magical adviser, Cavaroth was expected to take his father's place. However, by the time he was twelve, the king saw a great warrior in him.
As he grew into his teens, he started being groomed for a position as a military general. While the royal family was deeply impressed with him, his father was ashamed that he took to combat rather than magic. His younger sister Setsimi stepped up as adviser to the king, and he quickly became their father's preferred child. All of their father's inheritance was transferred to her. By this time, Cavaroth cared very little about the opinions of his family. When he looked at them, he saw cowardly, manipulative weaklings. In fact, he hardly cared what the king thought of him. He only sought power.
By the time he was twenty-four, he was already a military commander, and he hadn't spoken to his family in years. One day, though, his father approached him and told him that their rival family was about to begin its restoration of power. Queen Brienna was in the process of having the curse lifted from her, and soon she would be able to bear sons. He insisted that Cavaroth send his men out to intercept the Queen, but Cavaroth refused, unwilling to participate in his father's affairs. But when his father went over his head and told the king the news, he commanded that Cavaroth kidnap the Queen, and later, stop the twelve princesses from trying to rescue her.
Thus, Cavaroth has begun his journey rather grudgingly. To this day, he resents the powers that be for their conniving ways, and the only reason he has accepted this quest is so that he can rise through the ranks and become a general. However, he has the potential to change his mind...
