Celeste Serpico

"His laughter gave me chills then... I still miss it now."

0 · 240 views · located in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

a character in “Harry Potter: The Remnant Heir”, as played by Everscale

Description

Name: Celeste Serpico
Age: 11
Year: 1st
House: Gryffindor
Favorite Subject: Defense Against the Dark Arts (or rather, Dark Arts)
Blood: Pureblood

Appearance: Image
Celeste is a beautiful girl, but not in the normal way. Her beauty is somewhat… haunting, something easily explained by the trauma of her childhood. With pale golden hair and skin lighter than seems healthy, and eyes such a bright blue that they are nearly silver, she resembles something of a ghost. She is tall for her age, and so thin she appears to be starving, wasting away. She has been known to paint her face with rims of black, giving her an even more deathly appearance when she wears the traditional black robes of her school. She never smiles, almost never shows any expression at all – she is eternally calm, a blank slate, impossible to interpret and easy to manipulate. Terrifying. Underneath her lightless visage, however… she really is just another girl.

Personality

Personality: Celeste is by no means what could be called a “normal girl”. She has no concept of love or of hatred – she knows only the concepts of satisfaction and dissatisfaction. Though she does feel the emotions she does not understand, she views them through a very narrow lens. She exists for the purpose of pleasing the people who matter to her. When she was a child, that meant killing to please Lord Voldemort. Now, however, she has a new Master to serve – Harry Potter – and he is pleased by things like doing well in school, and learning new magics, and doing things he describes as “kind”. In the time since she came to Harry she has not yet learned to recognize her own feelings, and can not put a label on what it means when she begins to care about whether a specific person is pleased or not. She acts cool and calm, and often arrogant, but she has also begun to develop morals, similar to her Master’s morals. Though she still sees no harm in the death of someone who was a threat to others, she does not believe any longer in pointless killing, and she knows that she is not allowed to do the killing. She has learned that it is good to protect the people she wants to please, and Harry’s focus on loyalty has driven her to become even more loyal than he seems to be. She would not just serve someone she cares about – she would wait on them hand and foot. She is very clever, but dark and somewhat sadistic, and does not understand that her “servant complex” is unusual. It takes a very special person to become close to her.

Likes: It is difficult to tell at any given time what Celeste may like or dislike – she is a girl whose preferences have been erased and replaced with those of whomever her Master may be at the time. Under Voldemort she enjoyed killing, torture, and Pureblood supremacy – whatever made Voldemort happy. Under Harry she enjoys working hard and earning praise, she enjoys being with her family and trying new things and learning and, recently, making friends. Underneath that, she still enjoys the Dark Arts and adores snakes, but because Harry disapproves of it, she has sworn of mindless killing for entertainment. Really, what she loves the most is pleasing her Master. She is very slowly developing her independence and her own preferences, but they have yet to really surface. Even when it comes to food, she eats whatever she is given without the slightest indication of distaste or pleasure.

Dislikes: Much the same as with likes, she dislikes anything her Master dislikes. Under Voldemort it was death and muggles, under Harry it is corruption, foul treatment, and inequality. She has always hated people who were cruel to snakes and other creatures considered “dark”.

Fears: So far as anyone can tell, she fears nothing. She never flinches, no matter what she faces, no matter what charges her. She has had the fear, as with most emotions, raised out of her. Someday, Harry hopes, she will begin to fear loss.

Quirks: She still prefers to converse in Parsletongue. She has no skill whatsoever for Herbology or the lighter side of Charms. She rarely shows emotion and never seems to be afraid. She prefers to wear black. She enjoys the company of ghosts. Sometimes she simply does not understand a concept, and it can make her seem downright clueless. Though she does not fear it, flying makes her nauseous.

Equipment

Wand: Walnut, phoenix tail feather, twelve and a half inches.
Signature Spell: The Three Unforgivable Curses (though ironically enough she never uses them.)

Pet: A little green viper named Koth, highly venomous, whom came to her while she served under Lord Voldemort. Harry was never able to persuade her to chase him away. She keeps him under tight control, ordered never to bite anyone, unless expressly commanded otherwise.

Broom: None.

Other: The Dark Mark, branded on her arm. Her schoolbooks and robes, cauldron and other supplies. A box of Weasley joke products (she takes an odd sort of unemotional pleasure in them. She watches them whiz around and uses them often, but without expression.)

Family:
• Parents: Unknown
• Siblings: None
• Guardians: Voldemort (deceased), Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley

History: She was six years old when Lord Voldemort was killed. The child of two low-ranking Death Eaters, created not in love, but in ambition. Voldemort commanded her parents to have her, enticing them with offers of recognition, of privilege. In the end he – acting through various servants – murdered both of her parents, and took the child to be used as a tool for his plans. She was raised in the arms of whichever being Voldemort roped into his service, but only Voldemort was permitted to speak to her. She never heard a word that was not Parsletongue. When she was four she killed her first man – a Death Eater who had displeased her Master. She did it to amuse the Dark Lord, for the reward of the high laughter she had come to crave. By the age of six, by the end of her Master’s laugh, she had learned more dark magic than most witches will learn in their entire lives.

She had never once ventured aboveground.

With her Master’s death, the world of the Remnant Heir changed. Those few Death Eaters who escaped with their lives and loyalty gathered her up and took her into hiding. They remained that way for two long years, unable to speak to the girl who knew only the language of the serpent, frightened to anger the child who knew nothing but Dark Magic and sadistic amusement. They took her praying that she would be their next Dark Lord, that she would continue their crusade and purify the bloodstream of wizard-kind. Perhaps, if another decade had passed, the eight-year-old girl would have become the terror they envisioned.

They were found.

A contingent of Aurors led by none other than Harry Potter himself came across the lair of the surviving Death Eaters. It was a scene of slaughter, for the Death Eaters fought to defend the girl who was their new Master, and would not surrender. Few found the chance to flee – even fewer survived their flight.
Their was the last nest of darkness, the last large gathering of Death Eaters. Those who remained were scattered to the winds, weak alone, not a threat. And Harry Potter had found the Heir.

He took her in.

Where other Aurors saw only danger, only corruption, only darkness, Harry saw the child who simply did not know better. The only man alive, at least the only one he was aware of, who could converse with her, he brought her home with him and began her re-learning.

Now, three years later, he sees his hard work coming to fruition. The girl he christened Celeste, fluent in English, practiced in magics which do not harm, and in controlling the dark powers she can not escape, travels for her first time to join the rest of the wizarding world at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Normal, she is not – still a lover of darkness and of snakes, still accomplished at death and escaping it, her arm still marked as a Death Eater’s – but in time, Harry can only pray, she will come to understand that the world is not what Voldemort told her.

So begins...
