Matthew is a shy, quiet, and kind-hearted bookworm. He dislikes fighting and arguing, and believes in peacekeeping - not policing. Because of his quiet and shy demeanor, Matthew has a hard time making friends, and even more - dating. Most people tend to forget him, which causes him to be in a seemingly endless melancholy mood. As odd as it may seem, Matthew is head of his school's hockey team. He enjoys the sport very much, alongside other winter sports such as curling and skiing. Matthew is an animal lover. He also enjoys cooking. He loves spending time with his twin brother Alfred and has developed a slight brother complex.

Matthew dresses casually, wearing cheesy tee-shirts, band shirts, and brands such as Aeropostale and Abercrombie and Fitch. He sometimes wears tinted goggles on his head as an accessory. Matthew always carries his polar bear stuffed animal named Kumajiro, which was given to him as a child.
