Gideon Halcaster was anything but ordinary. He was an artist since he was young. He had admired the Unique's when they were being hunted by society and dreamed of his own bond with a magical creature. When he was 11 years old, he was roaming the woods alone, daydreaming, and suddenly imagined a companion beside him. He made a wish out loud, to have that companion come to him. Suddenly, a baby hippogriff appeared in the sky and landed right in front of him. The hippogriff was a little shorter than him then, with baby soft-feathers. Immediately, Gideon bonded with his new friend, and named him Hermes, after the winged-messenger god. When his parents found him coming home with a hippogriff, they panicked and ran away from their town to save their son from hunters. Sadly, about the same year they left, Gideon was almost caught by a hunter and killed. Hermes managed to save him, but the hunters killed his parents in the process. Gideon had been on the run since then, finding secluded places to live away from society. He lived in a heavily wooded forest for three years before he found a village where his kind can find safe harbor.
Gideon is an easy-going guy. He's charismatic and nice to people he meets. He's also a daydreamer. He'll be talking one second, and the next he wont even be in the same world. He loves to create art. You'll usually see him working on some project of creative intellect. He always explores his technique, so you can usually find him grimy with charcoaled fingers, paint-smeared face, pastel splattered clothes, and clay lumps in his hair. You can also find him talking to Hermes about anything. He talks to Hermes like he's a human being. He'll be walking down the street with his hippogriff, chatting and laughing with his pal about something. He can understand Hermes' squawks and chirps like it's his second language. Gideon is a fun guy to be around and makes friends easily. He's very observant though, so if he somehow see's a reason not to trust you he wont. If Gideon Halcaster gives you the cold-shoulder, you better make sure that's all you get. He can defend himself if he needs to.
Hermes may be half horse and half owl, but he is a very friendly and playful creature. Well, around people he trusts anyway. He can seem very quiet and reserved, but if he warms up to you, he can be very sweet. He follows Gideon almost everywhere he goes, and never seems to have him out of his sights. Hermes is Gideon's best friend, and his wingman. He would do anything for Gideon. That being said, Hermes also knows whats best for Gideon. If Hermes somehow doesn't trust someone, he will usually tell Gideon right away about it, and right in front of them too since they dont understand him. Gideon trusts Hermes though, and so Hermes trusts Gideon too. They are both two peas in one pod.
Gideon:
He always carries a pocket knife with him, but he never really uses it unless absolutely necessary. He usually fights people with himself; he is very skilled in combat fighting and can pin a strong man down on the floor.
Hermes:
Hermes' giant talons can break a grown tree in half with ease, and can rip into a cow like it was butter. His beak can snap bones and branches in half and can rip your face off. His back legs also produce a powerful kick, like a horses' kick. Hermes is an over 1000 pound killing machine if he wanted to be. When set to kill, he will. Especially if it'll mean saving Gideon. His giant wings can help him fly up high in the air, and can help him maneuver sharp turns and dives. He's also very fast on foot, like a thoroughbred horse.
