My heartbeat pounded in my ear like thunder as I sprinted through the trees. A group of runners were on my trail.
"Fuck!" I yelled out of breath, no longer caring if any walkers heard me. I hadn't even known that there were runners till today when I had stumbled apron them by accident. My muscles were burning like fire and sweat was poring down my back. At least it wasn't dark outside yet. I was afraid I would fall off a cliff at the speed I was running. I would run and wouldn't see the ground drop out underneath me and I would be dead. It actually wasn't a bad thought. The dead growled behind me, but I didn't want to look over my shoulders. I've seen enough horror movies to know when you looked behind you was when you tripped and got eaten. I couldn't tell quite how long I'd been running but I knew if i didn't stop now I would die of exhaustion. I had to get rid of the runners. I saw a gat looming in front of me and my eyes grew wide. This was perfect. I sprinted as fast as I could and jumped trying to climb up the gate. I fell down and and hit my head on the ground, but I didn't have time worry about the share pain in my head. The dead were growing closer. I launched my self one more time and used all of my muscles to pull me up. A dead jumped and grabbed at my ankle, but I kicked it in its head and it fell back. The next second I was on the ground on the other side. The zombies tried to grab me behind the fence but I was safe. I smirked at them and took out my hunting knife. I stabbed them in the head and was satisfied when they fell dead in the dirt on the other side.

Molly thanked John for the chain as she stood next to the gate, waiting for Paul to show up before she actually locked it. The rest of the group headed in as she stood there, watching or dispatching walkers. The silence was broken by loud moans and grunts. Molly turned in time to see a man running like hell to the gate, but not before he smashed his head on the ground. She involuntary winced as she watched him make one last ditch effort to the gate as the dead racked his ankles. Launching himself over like a catapult he landed sprawled out on the grass. Molly cocked an eyebrow as he flicked off the walkers and killed them, a large smile on his face.

"Howdy." She said as she cleared her throat and put her hands on her hips, her M4 moving along her back as she did so. The guy turned around to face her. His dark curly hair stuck up in awkward angles and his face covered in a thin sheet of sweat, he looked a lot younger than her 36 years.

James led the two marines and the girl to the front door of the house, reaching into his pocket and drawing out the spare keys Dr Fisher had kept in his desk draw at the hospital.

"Always come prepared" he said, jingling the keys and smiling, before opening the door and stepping inside. The entrance hall was huge and almost entirely white - as was the rest of the house - with white walls, white furniture and pale birch floors. Not a thing was out of place and the house was immaculately clean aside from a thin layer of dust that had developed in the past two months.

"Nice place, isn't it? Mrs Fisher had excellent taste - well, her interior designer did at least. Turns out money can buy taste!" Walking in, he brushed a thin layer of dust off an expensive looking white chaise longue and sit down, leaning back with a sigh.

It was then he hear gunshots at the gate. Sitting but up abruptly, he looked out the large glass window and saw Molly with a black haired man by the gate.

"Oh look, another addition to our little apocalypse crew."

((OOC: Yay! You guys didn't leave me behind. Ok I respond now ^-^ ))

Kira took his hands and jumped from the jeep into some soft mud that was struggling to dry under the overgrown foliage. The crazies had just begun appearing so she knew that this house was abandoned years ago. She tipped her head back to look up at the large house and cocked her head with curiosity. She'd never been in any house bigger than an apartment.
Dr.James led her and two other marine guys to the door and he found a key. She peered over his shoulder when he unlocked the door.
"Holy shit." she gaped at the large house and all the white. It was so fancy. Sheets covered a few of the furniture. She stepped in and looked around, tracking mud in on the white floors and carpet.
"Sorry." she said apologetically and slipped out of her boots. She hugged her arms to her chest and padded her way to a grandfather clock that still ticked with a heavy golden thing that swung back and forth. It seemed Dr.James knew whoever had been here and obviously had been here before if he knew how to get the key and get in.
She tried not to think about the crazy people and her sister. Dr.James and the others kept talking about some apocalypse of zombies and crazies so she had to push those memories away to survive. She had to find some sort of weapon. She'd never used a gun before, and the thought made her sick when she heard gunshots ring in her ears as she remembered her sister and the other civilians. She would find something blunt, and learn to swing it. She wasn't as strong as Molly, but she had muscles from ballet and the balance to swing something at one of the crazies if need be.
A gunshot rang out and Kira flinched. She hurried towards the open door afraid something had happened to Molly, but she just stood there talking to another man with dark hair. He looked a bit crazy with blood on his hands and head and a crazy smile on his face. She stepped back a bit cautiously, but it seemed Dr.James was taking in everything light heartily because he just laughed from where he stood next to a large window looking out at Molly and the other man.
"Oh look, another addiction to our little apocalypse crew."

"Howdy." I heard a woman's voice behind me and turned to face a woman who looked a few years older than myself. She placed her hands on her hips and she looked like she belonged to some sort of marines.
"You live here?" I asked, my smile fading as I looked up at the building. I knew I was running towards something fancy when I spotted the large gates, but I just didn't know quite how fancy it would be.
I ran my fingers throughout my hair trying to smooth back the curls that were plastered to my forehead. My lungs were aching and I was still trying to catch my breath. I must have been running for miles through those woods. I didn't know where my friends had gone. We were going back to the city when a bunch of whack jobs surrounded us and took a bite out of my friend. We'd all scattered in different directions and that was when I found myself in the woods being chased by a group of runners. That's all I really called them. Runners and whack jobs. One words came to my mind when they feasted on my friend, Marcus, and that was zombie. But that was crazy! Zombies didn't exist! That was just in movies, though after being chased by the runners and killing them off I gazed into their lifeless eyes and I started to think maybe they were zombies. Or just crazy people. The ones that ate my friends weren't running. I bent down and lifted the eyelid through the gate of one of the dead ones and saw their eyes weren't dead like he thought. They were normal, but a little glassy. I bit my lip thinking. They were just crazy. I saw bight marks on their arms and laughed. I wasn't being chased by the dead. I was being chased by people who thought they were going to die and started to act like the zombies. Hopefully my assumptions were right and the dead couldn't run. Then they only had to watch out for the whack jobs like these.
I stood back up and nodded towards the woman.
"I'm Cameron, but everyone calls me Gates... or had. Do you know what the hell is going on? These fuckers," he said pointing at the dead behind him.
"I know these aren't the dead ones, but the ones that like to bight chunks out of you... they zombies? Like in the movies?"

Molly shrugged. "We think its some kind of disease." She laughed, "Sounds fucked up, but it truly looks like some kind of zombie apocalypse. Your welcome to come into the house. We have a doctor if you need checked out. We just arrived." She held out her hand shaking his, "Major Molly Carson. Marine Corp."

With that she turned and walked into the house, throwing the chain to Paul who just arrived and nudged the gate shut. She listened as the footfalls of Gates and Paul as they followed. James stood at one of the large windows, his arms crossed against his chest. The women stood next to him, her arms wrapped around her waist. Molly really need to catch her name when they talked, she smiled and stepped into the house. Which was massive, and pristine. A large foyer opened up to reveal curved stairs, a small room on the side held expensive looking furniture, the windows large as lush red fabric covered them like drapery. She knew doctors made a shit load of money, but this house was more than half a million on its damn own, god knows how much the furniture was in its self. Unlacing Bellevilles she kicked them off and set the Carbine against the door frame.

"Baker, do a perimeter check outside. Herrginton, you check the inside and look for any kind of firearms within the house. Carson, I don't want to even look at you right now." Paul spat as he threw himself in a plush leather chair, blowing his blond hair from his eyes and kicking his feet up on a crystal encrusted table. Molly only smiled and flicked the bastard off. The other marines shook their heads but listened, heading outside and upstairs.

Molly kicked Paul's feet down and shoved her way past him and the table to sit on a small arm chair. "We need some kind of plan. Are we going to stay here?" She looked at James instead of Paul, who was actually in command of her. He could easily make Molly lick the shit of his shoes if he wanted to. Knowing the bitch, that probably wasn't so far from the truth.

"Shit." was I said in response. She told me her name and I shook her hand with a nod of my head. I took one last look at the bodies outside of the fence and then followed Molly inside. Another man followed in behind me. The house was almost as spectacular as it looked on the outside. It was a bit dusty, but I thought it added some character. A man stood by the window watching us and next to him was a small woman who also watched us. I felt uneasy under their gazes and looked away. I touched my blood stained hand to a white wall and it left a bloody imprint. He chuckled.
"Baker, do a perimeter check outside. Herrginton, you check the inside and look for any kind of firearms within the house. Carson, I don't want to even look at you right now." the man who followed him inside spat and then sat his lazy ass down in a chair. I glared a little at the blonde man and sat across from him. The house was nice, but I felt a little uneasy in it. I felt like some rich dude would come bounding down the stairs yelling at him to leave and calling him some burglar. Back in the city he got a lot of that because of how I looked. People assumed I was a bad guy. Really I didn't know if I was or not. I never thought I was, but who knows.
"We need some kind of plan. Are we going to stay here?" Molly said from an armchair to the man I assumed was the doctor by his crisp outfit and the expensive watch on his arm. I sat back a bit watching what they would decide. It was a safe place he was sure, but they couldn't just stay here if this was some zombie apocalypse. I was sure they would need to find some sort of survivors camp.

"We need some kind of plan. Are we going to stay here?" Molly said, sitting beside Paul and the new stranger. Walking over to the stranger, he noticed blood on the man's hands.

"Have you been bitten?" He asked him, kneeling beside the chair and taking his arm, feeling for his pulse.

Without waiting for a real reply - he was fairly confident the man had not been, he was showing none of the typical signs the other patients had - he looked across at Molly.

"There's a pantry just through the Kitchen, it's full of canned food and stuff. I'd say enough to last the 7 of us at least three weeks."

Turning his attention back to the man he held one finger up in front of his face. "Your pulse seems fine, a little fast but that's understandable. Follow my finger." He moved his finger side to side in front of the man's face, watching for signs of concussion but noticing none.

"Good. I'm James, by the way. James Wishbeck." he said, his warm, friendly smile spreading across his face.

"Gates." I said skipping the whole Cameron but you can call me Gates deal. "Glad there's a doctor here." I stated and I truly meant it. I had a way of getting hurt easily sometimes.
I was glad the head wound wasn't bad. The last thing I needed was a concussion and to drop dead suddenly. James made a point about the pantry.
"Maybe we should stay here for three weeks and then move on. Let the craziness outside settle down. I know it's probably hell out there and people are panicking. There's crazy people who chased me all the way here for miles thinking they were infected." I said with a grimace.
"We probably shouldn't let too many of the dead ones find this place. I'm not sure how strong the gates would be against a lot of them. I'm not even sure if they could climb. Can they?" I asked the doctor, thinking he would know most about this disease.

Molly shook her head. "I don't like the idea of having to wait until all the food is gone to move." She chewed her lower lip as she thought about what Gates said about the gate not holding up. "We can park the tank in front of the gate. I haven't seen them jump and the wall around the house is stone, the only weak spot would have to be the entrance gate. We can drive it through and park it in the yard, that way we still have it if we need it." She scratched her head. Thinking of any other way of closing up the only weak spot.

I only nodded. I didn't see any better way to enforce anything, and it's not like they would stay here long enough to really want to set up any real strong protection.

Could they climb, James thought.

"Their motor skills are seriously impaired. They seem to have bad vision and their hand-eye co-ordination is almost non-existent. There's no way i can see them being able to climb over the fence. I agree with Molly, it's best not to wait until we run out of food to move on - there's no way of knowing when we'll be able to find more. The last word we got through at the hospital mentioned a refugee camp being set up in the Nebraska desert...but I don't know where or if it even came to anything," He said, standing up and walking away from Gates, and sitting on the edge of the glass table.

He shrugged his jacket off, placing it on the table beside him and brushed his hands through his hair.

"I could still use that drink..." he sighed.

Kira sat up straight from her seat by the window at the sound of a refugee camp, but then Dr.James continued and he shoulders slumped when he said it might never have even came to anything.
"I'm going to clean up." she told the others, but it seemed they were all engrossed in finding out weather to stay or go that none of them really heard.
She climbed the large staircase up to the second floor and walked down a long hallway to a door she assumed would be a bedroom. She opened it up and was greeted with a light breeze coming in through the window. The white curtains billowed softly in the wind and a few leaves had blown in from the balcony. Her parents would have closed the window immediately because of the mess it was making, but she was kind of relaxed by the soft breeze. It was refreshing. She could almost forget she was in someone's house during an apocalypse of man eating crazy people, and that instead she was was relaxing in a hotel in the middle of the woods with a few random military people, a doctor, and a guy with crazy eyes.
She sighed and then looked around the room. It was pretty. It had a floral blue quilt and fancy lamps that reminder her of some 50s decor. Maybe that was their point? She shrugged and opened the bathroom door. A pill bottle lay on the floor empty. She furrowed her brow in confusion but then shook her head. Dr.James had mentioned other people living here. Of course she would find things that showed that other people lived and did their daily life duties here. She picked up the bottle and threw it in the trashcan. Then she undressed and put her jeans and shirt in the sink, turning it on to let them soak a bit. It stained the water red. She stepped into the shower and washed her hair and hands off. She didn't like all the blood that was washing down the drains, because she knew it wasn't the dead people's blood. It was her sisters. Her lips trembled at the thought of washing her sister away, but she couldn't think about that. She had bigger things to worry about now. She would have to grieve for her sister later.
She turned off the faucet and twisted the water out of her hair. She couldn't just hide herself in corners anymore and wait for others to stand up. She did that before everything went to shit and she did that when Karen was shot. If she ran out there with her sister maybe Karen would be alive, but if the man shot them both then at least she would die knowing she was there for her sister. She was going to be strong. She nodded her head with determination and opened the curtain in the shower ready to take on the world.
Her heart stopped as she grazed into two lifeless glassy eyes that stared blankly yet hungrily at her. She let out a shriek as it lunged at her and they both fell back in the shower. She hit her forehead on the facet as she tried to turn away from the zombie man when they fell. A little blood dripped on the white tiled floor of the shower. it only made the dead man go crazier. She held him back as his jaws snapped open and shut trying to get at her. He was so strong and she cried out knowing he would get her eventually.
She remembered a movie and ripped down the curtains and wrapping them around his face. It thrashed and scratched at her leaving claw marks on her body. She was thankful his finger nails were clean. The last thing she wanted was him getting infected blood into her. He still tried to get at her but his face was covered in cloth and no matter how much he lunged at her there was no way he could take a bight out of her.
"Help!" she screamed. She was afraid if she pushed him off and ran the dead guy would get out of the shower curtain and take a feast on her.
"Molly! Dr.James! Please!" she screamed. She didn't know if they could hear. She looked over the side and saw a plunger with a metal handle. She had to be strong. She rolled out from underneath the zombie and scrambled out of the shower for the plunger. She gripped the handle near the rubber plunger part and turned to face the zombie. She got it right in time because it had pulled the curtain off and now kinda lumbered lunged at her. She closed her eyes and thrust the metal rod towards it's face. She heard a slurping sound and opened her eyes to see the metal disappear into it's eye socket. it teeth stopped snapping and then it fell to the ground with a thump. She tried to catch her breath and looked towards the trash can where she'd thrown away the bottle. Then she looked back to the zombie man where there were bite marks on his arms and then to the open window. She'd been so careless to think that someone who owned a house like this would just leave a window open and a pill bottle on the floor. A man, bitten and scared, had climbed to the balcony and opened the window/door. He found some pills in the cabinet wanting to end it all. Died and then came back. She didn't know where he hid in the bathroom, probably behind the door. But it had been asleep all this time the craziness had been going on around the world, waiting. And then it smelt her and the blood and it woke up.
Kira clutched her fists. She had to think clearly now. Her being sad over her sister had made her not notice these things.

I rubbed the stubble forming on my chin and nodded to what James was saying. He also agreed he didn't want to stay here for 3 whole weeks. It would be best if they rested here for a bit and then left in search of more food and a safer place. The last thing they wanted was to get trapped in here or worse. Leave and find there's no food left. Being eaten alive is one thing, but starving to death is even worse. I've heard stories about people who starve and start eating other people. We already had to deal with dead cannibals, he didn't want to deal with living. "I could still use that drink..." James sighed and I nodded. I could use one too, but not right now. I was already a recovering alcoholic and that last thing i needed right now was to get shit faced drunk all the time. One of Molly's men left to go in search for some drinks and I shook my head when he offered. I looked around at the others and then noticed that girl was missing. The one who had been sitting by the window. I looked towards Molly who was arguing with that one guy who had his feet on the table and a cocky smile on his face, and then to James who lounged back in his chair. He looked exhausted, but I could see no one noticed where she went. I walked back to the closed door and peaked out a window by it thinking maybe she went outside to get something from the jeep they arrived in, but I didn't see her. I heard a faint scream from upstairs and furrowed my brow. I hadn't heard her go up the stairs. I ran up the stairs and then heard a louder scream as she called for Molly and the Dr.. "Shit!" I said under my breath. I didn't think there would be any dead in here. I ran down the hall to where the commotion was coming from and pushed open the door. There was a thud and I feared she had been eaten. She looked too small to defend herself and I knew if I looked in the bathroom I would see her dead and the zombie feasting on her. I grabbed my knife out of my belt and crept to the door only to open it and find her just standing there looking at the dead thing with a plunger through its eye. I blinked and then burst out laughing. A plunger in the eye was one hell-of-a way to die. She looked up startled and I could tell she wasn't happy about me finding this situation funny, but I couldn't help it. I stopped laughing seeing that she had probably been scared to death. I handed her a towel and she wrapped herself quickly.
"You ok?" I finally asked. She didn't answer at first so I pulled her into a quick hug. I wasn't much of a touchy feely type, but she just looked so lost.

"You ok?" the new man asked after he was done laughing. Kira thought about it. Was she ok? She guessed she was. Kira was able to fend off herself on her own. She was about to answer but then the guy pulled her in a quick hug and pulled away as soon as he had. She could tell he was a bit awkward, but that he was trying to make her feel better. She smiled and nodded.
"I'm ok. Thank you." she said and he looked relieved. She started to think maybe he wasn't crazy as she originally had thought. His eyes now were more concerning than wild. She looked down at the knife in his hand and thought that maybe she should get one of her own. Glancing down at the dead she knew she wouldn't be able to find plungers everywhere she went.
"Can you help me put him outside? I... I don't want to just leave him here on the floor like this." she said looking down at her hands, which she had managed not to get bloody. The only blood on her body were from the new scratches, but other than that it was a pretty clean death. She was scared of these creature, but now looking down at the body she realized it once had been a man. Maybe a man with children and a wife. She felt a little sick to her stomach.

"Can you help me put him outside? I... I don't want to just leave him here on the floor like this." the girl asked.
"Of course." I picked him up and threw him over my shoulder. It would go faster if I did it myself. I looked back at her and finally noticed the scratches and the blood. My heart jumped a bit.
"The scratches. You'll get infected!" I said shocked, but then I noticed how calm she was and cocked my eyebrow curiously.

"His nails were clean. I'm ok." she answered his curiosity and he seemed relieved. He told her he would take care of the body himself, and that it would go faster and she thanked him. She didn't want to look at the dead man any longer than she had to. She was still getting used to the fact that she'd actually killed a man, or dead man. She was confused on how to feel and instead opened the closet. She found a white summer dress and pulled it on quickly. It was the least fanciest thing in the closet. She wondered if it once belonged to the owners wife. Or maybe he had a granddaughter. She came down the stairs and saw the others still talking amongst themselves. No need in telling them about her encounter with the undead. They had bigger things to worry about than something that was done in over with. She took an umbrella out from the holder by the door and decided to check the house for any more surprises while they discussed what we should do the next. It was the least she could do. She climbed back up the stairs and pushed open the first door. It was just another room. She searched the room and the closet and under the bead, but there was no undead. She did that to the next few rooms, which included an office and other rooms.

I dumped the body a little ways away from the dead ones I killed earlier. Flies had already begun to swarm around the lumps in the grass which had once been sane humans turned crazy after being bitten. Only the body I recently dumped smelt rotten which I thought was ironic considering the time of death... or re-death that is. I wiped my hands on my pants even though the body was clean, maybe it was the thought of wiping away the death. I came back inside and saw that the girl was gone again, and rolled my eyes. If she just kept going off on her own she was going to end up in more of these situations. Yeah, she defended herself from one dead zombie, but she got lucky. I saw her upstairs coming from one room and going in the other. I climbed the steps and pulled my knife out, twisting it my hands, and just liking the feeling of safety it brought.
"Hey." I said coming up behind her in one of the rooms. "Take this. I saw you looking at it earlier, and I want you to have it." I took her hand and put the knife into it. Her hand was small and I stepped back a bit rubbing my neck.
"You should talk to the doctor guy in getting those scratches treated. Just to be safe you know?" I mumbled and then left the room, but I only went to lean over the banister over the stairs. I wasn't going to leave her up here alone. At least this way I could listen in on the others while watching out for her and any more zombie surprises.

Kira tested the weight of the knife in her hand and was pleased with the safe feeling it gave her.
"You should talk to the doctor guy in getting those scratches treated. Just to be safe you know?" the man said and left the room. She looked back down at her scratches, which had begun to bleed through her dress a little. She hoped they wouldn't leave scars. Most of them were just scratches, but a few were pretty deep. She shook her head as to wipe away all thoughts of the dead zombie man. She would have to face these types of things now. They all would have to, and they couldn't be held up by every death they made weather it be a zombie killing or accidental human death. She stepped out of the room and saw the man was still hanging around the banister. She still didn't know his name, but he seemed to be focused on other things. She would just have to find out later.
Kira took the stairs two at a time and leaned up against the door frame to the room the others were in.
"So what's the plan?" she finally asked, interrupting Molly arguing with the other guy. It was also more than she's really said to them when she first arrived here. Also more of an actual involvement, even if just a little, into what they would do.
