Karen has the power to control the bodies of the dead, specifically their dead flesh–their bones just come along for the ride. To take control, she needs to either see the flesh in question, or know exactly where it is, but once she has it she can send it anywhere she wants; her power has no limits on range. As she is also able to tap into the brains of the newly dead, giving her access to their senses as well as some of their memories, she doesn’t even need to be present to see, hear, and feel what’s going on, in an abstract sense. What does limit her power, though, is how much she is able to control at any one time and how much attention she is able to give them. Roughly twelve bodies’ worth of material seems to be the extent of the mass she can control at once, but the closer she comes to that limit the less she’ll be able to move the bodies in quick or complex ways. With a single body, she is capable of making it move in such ways that a powerful and talented fighter would have reason to worry, and it goes downhill from there until you get the barely shambling troupe of twelve.

Composed, Confident, Ambitious, Compelling
Karen is someone who is, to the best of her abilities, always striving to be in control and maintaining the image of someone who should be in control. It isn’t very hard for her, as she has many qualities that make her good at maintaining such an image. For one, the cracks on her façade of a calm, collected mind are few and far between, thoroughly concealed behind a smile and an energetic stride. Such a façade isn’t difficult for her to pull off either, as her confidence lets her work through most things that might put a dent in it. All but the worst of disappointments can be brushed aside as insignificant to some grand scheme that may not even exist yet, and it can be hard to elicit an excited response from her when she puts little stock in most other people’s words. There are some exceptions to this, of course, but a general smug sense of self-importance keeps most people from being one.
In addition to this, is her drive to achieve what she wants, and she always wants something significant. Whether it be improving her abilities, corrupting others, or gathering them up under her after, she wouldn’t stop, all in the name of achieving some higher goal. And to achieve these goals of hers, she relies on more than just the force of her powers; she makes excellent use of her own power of persuasion and inspiration. Some might call it manipulative to be able to speak the right words with the right inflections at the right time to get people to act in the way you want, but that’s just putting a negative spin on it in her eyes.

Karen was the only child of a couple that met in med school and were then happily married. She was born perfectly healthy and was a very energetic child, though most of this energy was taken out on her various nannies and babysitters, her parents not being able to spend much time with her due to their work. She didn’t mind that much, though; she loved her parents, understood why they were busy, and was plenty content to spend time with all the other people hired to take care of her in their stead. When she attended school she performed very well, expectations high for the child of two doctors, and she had a decent amount of friends. But then she stopped attending school.
When she was fifteen, Karen was diagnosed with a compromised immune system something that forced her her into the hospital for almost a year while she was treated for that as well as the several infections that resulted from it. It wasn’t so bad at first, her friends would visit her and she got to spend more time with her parents. But soon the visits became rare and she spent most of her time playing video games or reading when she wasn’t actually feeling sick. It would have gotten worse for her, but she had forgotten her parents by the time someone showed up to tell her that they had been in an accident. All around her people were mourning the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Gage and she had no idea why they thought she would care about the deaths of two strangers. It was during this confusing time that the man came to tell his tale and for her to do little but mock him for it. Still, after he left and the mourners soon after, she felt much better than she had before, despite not really remembering what it was like before. She didn’t get much time to enjoy the feeling, as a few days later some stranger walked into the room and threatened her.
She tried calling for help and frantically pushing the button to summon the nurses, but the first person to arrive was a patient who tackled the stranger and proceeded to wail on him in a rather inhuman way. Before anyone else could show up, the stranger had been thoroughly crippled and the patient had gone limp. It was quite the stir amongst the hospital staff, a random person lying beaten and bruised with a recently deceased patient on top of them, but all they had were rumors, whereas Karen had the man to explain it to her. He talked about pulling her into the darkness and about how there was no resisting it, but she was all but deaf after he explained her powers. There was no need for any pulling or priming or resisting; she fell the moment she understood what she could do and she hasn’t stopped since, making good use of her large inheritance and new found abilities.
