Description

Aolani Stevens

Basics

Name

Aolani Stevens

Nickname(s)

Aolani doesn't really have a nickname.

Age

15

Gender

Female

Sexuality

Bisexual; though Aolani has more of a thing for girls than guys. Her grandfather knows about her preferences, more or less, but otherwise Aolani has kept silent about her sexuality.

Image

Appearance

Hair

Aolani's hair, for the most part, is completely natural. She does have her hair tied up in pigtails of a sort, but that's about all the stylizing she's done to it.

Eyes

Aolani has 20/20 vision.

Markings

No real markings on her, more or less.

Build

Aolani is physical fit for her age. She's apart of her school's track team too, which helps her keep in shape.

Clothes

Aolani likes to dress simply: jeans, shirts, basic clothes like that. She can wear a skirt or dress if the situation calls for it, but otherwise, she likes to dress in a more functional manner.

Accessories

Aolani doesn't really have any accessories, per say, that she can't go without or always carries around.

Weapons

Aolani carries a stun-gun with her at all times. Other than that, though, she doesn't have any weapons on her person.

Skills

Natural Skills

Aolani has a good knack for discerning when people are lying; she isn't quite sure what it is, but most of the time she is able to figure out when people are lying to her. Aolani also has a knack for math and numbers, finding it very easy to excel in such classes.

Learned Skills

Aolani is an avid runner, and over the years has learned a great deal about that via school track and other such things. She's also acquired a great deal of cynicism over the years, for the better or worse.

Weaknesses

Aolani can be rather bad at expressing herself sometimes; she's been used to hiding her true feelings half the time, that she finds it difficult to really open up to people. She's managed to open up quite a lot with Chiyo, but she still finds it hard. Also, on an unrelated note, Aolani is absolutely terrible at surfing. All her attempts to learn or try have ended in disaster, much to her embarrassment; her grandfather finds it especially amusing, given the fact both he and her parents were good surfers in their own right, and the fact that Aolani has Native Hawaiian blood in her.

Image

Mentality

Quirks

Aolani is a big fan of plays and other similar productions, something that contrasts with her otherwise grim nature. Other than that, she really doesn't have any quirks, per say.

Likes

  • Chiyo
  • Her Grandfather
  • Running
  • Watching Musicals
  • Going to the Beach

Dislikes

  • The People who Murdered her Parents
  • Bullies
  • Surfing
  • Being inactive
  • Being lied to

Fears

Aolani has many fears, primarily dealing with loss. She is afraid of losing her friendship with Chiyo, of losing her already fading memories of her parents, of losing her grandfather....

On another note, Aolani has an inexplicable fear of heights.

Personality

Aolani is a somewhat distant, and cold girl, though that's more or less because of the traumas she's faced in life. At heart, Aolani is a kind and gentle young woman, who yearns to make more friends. She also has an...odd way of showing her affections. She often teases people, though not unkindly. Aolani is also quite the sardonic and snarky young lady, taking occasional delight in shining down a light of cynicism and pessimism on certain things.

Personal Life

Significant Relationships

Aolani doesn't have very many significant relationships, but the ones that she does have relate to her family, and to her very best friend, Chiyo.

She loves her parents, and a day doesn't go by without her thinking about them. Her memories of her parents are distant and dim now, but Aolani remembers that they were kind, loving, and cared for her a great deal. She misses them terribly, and every year, on the anniversary of their deaths, she pays a visit to their graves, to pay her respects.

Aolani absolutely loves and adores her grandfather, her primary caretaker, who's always been with her ever since the death of her parents. He's been a good parent to her, and has been there for her, no matter what. His slowly worsening heart condition has her worried, though she tries not to dwell on it too much. Aolani has a wonderful relationship with her grandfather, and always goes to him for advice, whenever possible.

Aolani doesn't have very many friends these days, but what friendship she does have, she treasures a great deal. And that friendship is primarily in the form of her very best friend, Chiyo. She's been friends with Chiyo ever since she and her parents emigrated to Kalani, and they've gotten along swimmingly. Aolani has found that Chiyo is quite the good listener, and she's provided her with some much needed company; after her parents died, Aolani became a bit of a loner, so she hasn't really had a lot of strong friendships before.

Recently Aolani has become aware that her feelings to Chiyo have...changed, slightly. She feels a greater romantic attraction to Chiyo now, and a part of her would love for them to become girlfriends. But, Aolani is more than content to just remain friends with Chiyo, and she doesn't want to pressure her friend into anything she doesn't want.

Family

Aolani has a rather small family, one that's shrunk even more over the years. Her parents, Roger Stevens and Nani Stevens, both died in a home invasion when she was six. Since their death, Aolani has been raised primarily by her grandfather, Makaha Malo.

History

Aolani doesn't really have an unusual backstory...per say; for the most part, she had a regular childhood. She was raised by two loving parents, and enjoyed a pleasant life on Kalani Island.

Then, shortly after she turned six years old, her parents were murdered in a home invasion.

After that, nothing was ever really the same. Her grandfather in Honolulu moved so he could take care of her and raise her in her parents' absence, and since then, he's been her guardian and caretaker. Life without her parents was hard, but it was an adjustment made easier by her kind and patient Grandpa Makaha. Eventually Aolani was able to come to terms with the deaths of her parents, more or less, and lead on with life.

Aolani recently turned fifteen, and so far, things are looking up for her. She enjoys the company of a relatively new friend, Chiyo, and she's become a bit more sociable in general, having joined her school's track team. Overall Aolani is satisfied with the life she's leading now; if she had one Wish, it would be having her parents there with her to enjoy it.

Aolani

Aolani walked beside her friend in a sedate manner, rather pleased to feel the fresh, warm Hawaiian air.

"It's times like these that make me glad that I live in Hawaii," Aolani commented aloud, a wide smile on her face. "I just love the weather we have here. It's always so perfect."

Her good mood deteriorated, however, when the image of the Witch's Labyrinth flashed through her mind. A slight frown now marred her face, and Aolani desperately tried to push that image out of her head. Now that they were out of the mall, the events of what they had...experienced that morning, were starting to creep back into her mind. Still, she did her best to ignore such...unpleasant thoughts, if just for the moment. Perhaps it was foolish of her, but she didn't want to ruin the mood of 'normalcy' that she had established earlier.

Besides, she wasn't about to talk with Chiyo about that in the open. She certainly didn't want to sound...insane or childish or whatever to any passerbyers.

Aolani forced the smile back onto her face, and her happiness started to become genuine once more when she and Chiyo came within viewing distance of her house. She did her best not to race over to the front door, mostly because she knew Chiyo wouldn't be able to keep up with her, and she didn't want to make her friend exert herself, anyway. Still, the blonde couldn't help but walk a little faster as they approached the modest, two-story home.

They were inside the house in quick order, and Aolani all but skipped into the main living room, a big grin on her face.

"Good morning, Grandpa!" she cheerily greeted, waving at an older man seated on an armchair.

Makaha Malo peered up from a book he was reading, and smiled grandly at his granddaughter. "Good morning, Aolani! It's good to see you home. And good morning to you too, Chiyo. How are my two favorite girls today?"

Chiyo

Chiyo personally found the weather to be a bit warm for her liking, though by no means outright unpleasant, but this was likely just due to her being used to colder weather. Nor, being who she was, would Chiyo complain even if it had been blisteringly hot out. Besides, Aolani's good mood was palpable, and Chiyo was more than happy to leave that as it was, particularly considering the earlier events of the day.

As if in response to what Chiyo had just been thinking about, Aolani's good cheer seemed to fall apart at the seams. It wouldn't have been obvious to most, the blonde's face only fell for a moment, but Chiyo had a knack for noticing these things, both natural and learned, and she had a pretty good idea what the cause of the unhappiness. For that same reason however, she knew she couldn't try to revisit the subject that was troubling her friend just yet.

Now that her own mind was on the subject, Chiyo found herself thinking about the offer that had been made to them. A wish and magical powers in exchange for agreeing to help fight dangerous monsters and save lives. To her, it seemed like a pretty good deal, like a call to arms from the first episode of a magical girl anime. She could be of such use, fighting alongside her fellow 'Puella Magi' and lending a hand, even if she didn't end up being that strong.

Returning from her short introspection, the purplette found that they were now at Aolani's house. She smiled appreciatively at how her friend had been so thoughtful as to keep a pace that she could match, despite the track star's obvious excitement. Trying to be obliging, Chiyo broke into a sort of skipping trot wasn't quite walking or jogging, and about even with the latter in terms of speed. Quite frankly, she looked ridiculous, most likely even more so in the eyes of someone who actually knew how to run properly, but she was moving faster than she had been by just walking.

When the two arrived in the house, Aolani greeted her grandfather, who in turn greeted the two of them, asking them how they were. Assuming that she was to answer, based on timing and the fact that Aolani hadn't, Chiyo did so. "Very well, P-Professor Malo. Thank you for asking."

Chiyo had to try very hard to force herself to say 'professor' rather than 'sensei'. Even if it was still technically a title, it just didn't seem nearly respectful enough. It didn't help that she was rather formal as part of her personality, and she still sometimes found herself almost adding '-senpai' or at least '-san' when she was addressing Aolani.

Realizing that she had just answered for both of them, which in her mind was a bit presumptuous, even if Aolani hadn't said anything, and probably would have said something similar if she had, Chiyo looked up at her friend for confirmation.

Aolani

"Yep! We're doing fine, Grandpa." Aolani confirmed with a slight smile, nodding her head. She felt a brief urge, however, to tell him that everything wasn't okay, and to tell him about everything they had experienced that morning...

But, the blonde knew that would be a bad idea. Her Grandpa would never believe her; if anything, he'd probably grow rather concerned about her mental health and state of mind. Which would be a rather valid concern, all things considered.

Aolani was about to elaborate further, when she felt her stomach growl and protest. A light blush came to her cheeks, and a nervous chuckle escaped her lips.

Makaha raised an eyebrow in surprise, giving his granddaughter a questioning look. "Did you forget to eat breakfast at Chiyo's, Aolani?"

"Ah, yeah. We both sorta forgot. Sorry." Aolani admitted, blushing still. In all the excitement that had occurred this morning, she'd forgotten to grab a bite to eat at the mall with Chiyo, like they had said they would.

"We were just so, uh, busy that we sorta forgot to eat at the mall. And Chiyo's parents weren't home by the time we left, and neither of us really know how to cook, so..." the biracial girl gave a little shrug, trailing off.

Makaha gave a soft chuckle, and shook his head. After a moment he put his book away, and slowly stood up from his chair. "Well then, I suppose I'll have to correct that. Give me thirty minutes and I should have something whipped up for the both of you. Okay?"

Aolani smiled despite her mild embarrassment, and nodded her head at her grandfather. "Sure, Grandpa! That sounds great to me."

Makaha nodded, and shortly left the living room, ruffling Aolani's hair as he passed. The blonde smiled at him as he disappeared from view. A few seconds later she turned to Chiyo, an inquiring look on her face.

"So. Uh, I guess we should go wait in my room while he cooks?" Aolani suggested, her eyes moving over to the stairs that led to the second floor of the house, and to her room as well.

Chiyo

Chiyo considered mentioning that she actually did (sort of) know how to cook, but wasn't one to cut in while other people were talking, especially not for the purpose of correcting someone, and most certainly not if that someone was Aolani.

She felt a bit guilty for not having prepared breakfast for them herself earlier, even if Aolani had seemed a bit dubious about the idea even before she'd gone and jinxed it, and wanted to at least offer to help this time. But the professor was already out of the room by the time she'd actually gathered the courage to speak up, so asking now would be a little pointless.

A moment later, she turned to her friend, who was just then turning to suggest they wait in her room.

"Alright." Chiyo agreed. Hopefully Aolani would be willing to talk about this whole magic business when they got there. While she was aware that it clashed rather strongly with her more realistic friend's worldview, it wasn't as though ignoring it would make it any less real, and they'd have to talk about it eventually. Besides, keeping the issue bottled up and not talking about it couldn't be good for her.

Aolani

Aolani nodded and went over to the stairs, climbing up them with Chiyo in quick order. She turned left at the base of the stairs, marching on down the hall. She passed by a closed door on the way to her room, and while she briefly quickened her pace to get passed that door...her eyes couldn't help but linger on it, for a few scant seconds.

Behind that door was her parents room. Or at least, it used to be her parents room. Now...well, it wasn't really used anymore, at all. Neither she nor her grandfather had done anything with the room since her parents' deaths. Makaha himself lived in what used to be the guest bedroom.

Now and again, she did like to...go in there, and just lay on the bed. It brought her a small amount of relief when she was troubled or upset, like her parents were still with her, still here to comfort their darling daughter.

Aolani had a feeling she'd go in there quite a bit for the next few days. But for now, she couldn't dwell on that. She still had to talk things out with Chiyo...

The blonde reached her room at the end of the hallway, and opened the door to get in, stepping inside.

Aolani had made the bedroom her own over the years, to say the least. The walls were covered in posters of musicals, Hollywood and Broadway, modern and classic. On the far corner, Aolani had a modest shelf that contained row after row of dvds; mostly musicals, though not all. The screen-saver of her personal computer, located on her desk, flashed through various images of musicals past and present. And the sheets of her bed...well, Aolani wasn't quite so childish as to have bedsheets that had the faces of the actors of one of her favorite musicals, or some such thing, so her bed was remarkably normal. But that didn't mean the blonde had entirely outgrown such things; the pillow on her bed still had a casing over it that depicted scenes from the latest revival of the musical Wicked.

The biracial girl walked over to her bed, and plopped down on it, motioning for Chiyo to set down beside her. A brief silence stretched between them, as Aolani thought of something to say.

"Well..." she began, rather lamely, in her own opinion. "A lot of stuff...happened this morning, didn't it?"

Chiyo

Chiyo had always found Aolani's love of musicals to be rather interesting, when one considered her usual disposition. The mental image of her, admittedly rather cynical, friend breaking into song to express her feelings made Chiyo giggle a bit. Then again, the idea of Chiyo with a harem of heroines was probably a thought that Aolani would find amusing, were it to occur to her.

At her friend's invitation, the shorter girl sat on the bed beside her. Perhaps a bit closer than strictly necessary, but Chiyo wanted to be close at hand if the situation they were about to discuss, which had by consequence invalidated Aolani's world view, began to get to her. All the same, the proximity again caused Chiyo to redden slightly.

"Well..." the blonde started. "A lot of stuff...happened this morning, didn't it?"

Chiyo wasn't quite sure how she was expected to respond to that.

In the end, that being after an uncomfortably long pause, Chiyo finally settled on just agreeing. "It did." Obviously that wasn't all that she thought about the matter, but Chiyo figured it was best to let Aolani set the pace on this subject. Chiyo herself was still pretty keen on the idea of becoming a Magical Girl and saving lives, but she didn't want to just rush in saying so.

Aolani

Aolani remained silent for another minute after Chiyo finally replied, unsure of what to say. In the end though, she managed to come up with something.

"W-Well. I guess one of your biggest dreams just came true, huh?" Aolani began with a strained smile, a rather forced chuckle escaping her lips. "Magical Girls actually exist...heh. That's, uh....well, I c-certainly didn't see that coming, that's for sure."

The blonde fell silent a moment later, unable to really say anything else. She was determined to keep herself together, and at the same time, she didn't want to rain on Chiyo's parade, as it were. She had no doubt in her mind that her more idealistic friend was ecstatic that Magical Girls actually existed, and moreover, that she was being given the opportunity to become a Magical Girl.

Still, it was...hard. The world as she had known it was tearing apart at the seams, which wasn't something Aolani could just ignore, or try to pretend she wasn't feeling.

After a moment, Aolani reached over with her hand, and slipped it into Chiyo's, squeezing her palm softly.

"It's good that at least one of us is h-happy with this..." she muttered after a moment, looking down at the floor.

Chiyo

Chiyo smiled a little when Aolani slipped her hand into her's, a smile that would be greater under other circumstances, though it faded at the words that followed. "But Aolani, I don't want to be happy about something that makes you unhappy." she argued. It was true too; as amazing as this all was to Chiyo, she'd still rather have things be normal and Aolani be happy, than have all this happen and so badly affect her friend. Of course, it wasn't exactly like the pair had been offered a chance to choose between the world the way Aolani viewed it, and the way that it apparently was.

...Wait a moment. Wasn't that a possibility? They had been offered any wish after all. All that Chiyo had to do was call out, presumably in her head, to Yuubey, who had said he'd be waiting for just such a call, and she could make all of this stuff, Witches, Magical Girls, Magic, that had been bothering Aolani go away with a single wish.

On the windowsill outside, the Incubator could sense the turn Chiyo's thoughts had taken, and prepared to appear the moment she summoned him. Of course, whether or not granting the wish she was thinking of would be advisable was another matter entirely.

As it was though, Chiyo did not call Yuubey, not yet at least. Firstly, there was the whole paradox thing, how could she make a wish that would make it impossible to grant said wish, after all? Then, more importantly, she thought Aolani might be opposed to the idea, and she didn't quite want to take it up with her just yet.

"So," Chiyo asked, "what do you want to do about this?" Again she considered bringing up that, quite frankly dangerous, idea, but actually suggesting a wish at the moment seemed like jumping the gun a little.

Aolani

Aolani gave a slight shrug, unsure herself. "Well..."

She cut herself off, as an idea from earlier resurfaced in her mind. She blushed a little, not quite looking forward to saying it aloud, but it had to be done, all the same...

"Well...I, uh, will need a uh...u-urine sample from you, Chiyo..." Aolani continued, a blush blossoming over her face as she looked away from her friend. "Just so, you know, I can be sure we aren't being drugged out of our minds or something. That's doubtful, given that I don't think we'd be experiencing the same hallucination, but...um, yeah. I will need...that, sooner or later."

The blonde gave a little cough after that, hoping to move on with the subject post-haste. "Aside from that, I...well, I guess I just need time to...accumulate, as it were. Get used to this whole idea of...magic and magical girls being real. It might take me a while, but...well, I guess you'll just have to put up with me, huh?"

The biracial girl forced a chuckle out, hoping to lighten the mood. Her fake laughter soon died upon her lips, however, and she fell quiet. After a few seconds Aolani shifted on her bed, tilting her head so she could rest it comfortably upon Chiyo's shoulder, squeezing her friend's hand at the same time.

"...Do you, uh, think you can stay the night, too?" Aolani inquired, her voice almost a whisper. "I...I know we had a sleepover already last night, but...well...I...I really don't want to be alone tonight..."

Chiyo

Well... that hadn't been the answer that Chiyo was expecting. Admittedly, she didn't know what she had been expecting as a reply, it was sort of an odd situation, but that had not been one of the response Chiyo had been considering as a possibility. The reason made sense, at least from Aolani's perspective, and Chiyo could see that, but a urine sample?

She considered saying something, she knew she'd go along with it, that wasn't really even a question, but it still seemed like it might be something she might want to say something about. Seeing her friend look away embarrassed like that though, coupled with the flush she could feel on her own face, the purplette merely nodded silently, forgetting of course that Aolani wouldn't be able to see it unless she turned back.

The taller girl seemed eager to move on with the conversation, and Chiyo couldn't agree more. "You put up with my... " she frowned, unable to think of the word she wanted to use, or at least its English equivalent. Issues was close, but wasn't quite what she meant, and sounded a bit too much like she was crazy.

Speaking of, there was something that, if she knew Aolani, had probably gone through the other girl's mind. "You're not crazy." she said quietly. Mind you, that's probably what the hallucination of a crazy person would say, but still.

Chiyo gave a small start when Aolani rested her head on her shoulder, but the initial surprise, it wasn't exactly anticipated, even if it should have been, was quickly replaced by a comfortable sort of... Again. a word eluded her. It probably said something about this day that it was exhausting her vocabulary. Just as she was wondering whether or not it would be weird to lean her head against Aolani's, the blonde spoke.

"...Do you, uh, think you can stay the night, too? I...I know we had a sleepover already last night, but...well...I...I really don't want to be alone tonight..."

"Of course." she answered without a thought. After a moment though, Chiyo realized that she might have spoken too soon. "I'll have to call my father first, maybe after lunch, but he'll probably say it's alright."

Aolani

"Thanks, Chiyo." Aolani replied, a small smile growing across her face. She lifted her head from Chiyo's shoulder, facing her friend properly.

Their heads were quite close together, and Aolani was struck by the sudden urge to flat-out kiss Chiyo. A small blush flashed on her cheeks, as she fought against that urge. She'd never done anything so...affectionate with Chiyo before, and she didn't want to make things weird between them...

After a brief, thoughtful second, Aolani decided to compromise. She leaned in closer, bringing her lips to Chiyo's...but at the last second she moved to the right, and kissed her friend's cheek instead.

She pulled back, her face still a little flushed. She smiled at her friend, feeling a little embarrassed at her affection...but she knew Chiyo wouldn't mind. Besides, kissing her had felt nice...

....

God, she was crushing on Chiyo so bad. It still amazed her that her friend hadn't caught on to her crush...

"Thanks again, Chiyo. I...really appreciate it." Aolani stated, squeezing Chiyo's hand again.

Chiyo

"Thanks, Chiyo." Aolani had said, lifting her head to better face Chiyo.

The petite purplette beamed at this, delighted to be of some help, regardless of how little. She was about to tell Aolani this, when the taller girl began leaning towards her. Well, perhaps that should have been, leaning further towards her, as the two were already in very close proximity, something of which Chiyo was acutely aware.

Chiyo's face flushed as Aolani drew forward, her lips just in front of Chiyo's... and turned to kiss her on the cheek.

Chiyo began breathing a bit more normally, only realizing now that she had been breathing more quickly. Her face was still quite red though, perhaps even more so now. What was that? Was that Aolani teasing her again, perhaps about the subject of her... orientation? That seemed a bit cruel, if it were interpreted the wrong way, but Chiyo would be the first to admit that she hardly understood every aspect of America's culture after being here for just a year.

But Aolani was still smiling, and Chiyo knew that she never would have meant ill, so she would consider that more later. For now though, she focused on answering Aolani's renewed thanks. "Even so, I know it probably isn't much, but I want to do anything I can to help." Chiyo's voice was surprisingly full of conviction in that last part, something that she herself felt she probably should have toned down a bit, and so she added "That is, if you don't mind." She wasn't exactly how it would be helping if it was minded, but that was beside the point.

Aolani

Aolani smiled wider at her friend, deeply touched by her willingness to help. Chiyo really was a good friend...

"Sure, Chiyo. You're more than welcome to help me." Aolani replied, leaning her head down on Chiyo's shoulder again. Her face still felt a bit flushed, and the urge to kiss Chiyo came at her again, but this time she managed to successfully bat it away. It was uh, one thing to kiss Chiyo the....o-one time. Anymore, and she might start to get a little suspicious...

"I think a nice, calming night with my best friend at my side should be enough to help me out." Aolani went on, nestling her head quite nicely into Chiyo's shoulder. Heh. It was rather comfy, actually. She almost hoped that Chiyo would lean her own head against hers...

"Watching a movie might not hurt, either." the blonde added, a relaxed smile on her face. "Maybe a play? I've been meaning to rewatch Twisted...that might be nice to watch..."

Chiyo

Aolani was leaning her head on Chiyo's shoulder again. The smaller girl smiled first at this, and then even more at how Aolani chose to refer to her. Her best friend, that was what she had said. It wasn't that Chiyo didn't know that already, but it still made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside to hear it said aloud. Was that vain? Maybe a little, was what Chiyo eventually decided, but that surprisingly didn't make her any less happy.

For a moment, Chiyo looked over at the blonde next to her, considering again whether or not it would be weird to rest her head on hers. It then occurred to Chiyo, with much blushing as she recalled it, that Aolani had kissed her on the cheek mere moments ago, and that, if she was comfortable with doing that, she probably wouldn't regard what Chiyo wanted to do negatively.

So, with that thought, she leaned her head lightly against that of her best friend, though she was ready to remove it very quickly if Aolani said something.

"Watching a movie might not hurt, either." was what followed instead. "Maybe a play? I've been meaning to rewatch Twisted...that might be nice to watch... " "Alright. That sounds good."

That reminded Chiyo of something, and she turned her book-like tablet over in her lap. She had been meaning to find some plays or musicals to put on it, even though it was designed as a gaming tablet. The idea being that she and Aolani could use it to watch some of the older girl's favorites when they weren't at her house. While Chiyo's room could boast a pretty decent amount of anime and gaming paraphernalia, along with a number of books, it did not have a great number of things that she thought Aolani was especially interested in.

Aolani

Aolani smiled further and continued to lean her head against Chiyo, quite content to just let the moment keep on going. After another minute of this, though, she rather reluctantly lifted her head away, and then got up from the bed.

"Well, Grandpa should be about ready with breakfast now, I think." the blonde commented, a smile still on her face. "You ready to eat, Chiyo?"

Once she gave her assent, Aolani went back downstairs with her best friend. The smell of a wonderful meal greeted their senses as they came down, and when they arrived in the dining room, Makaha was settling down some plates for them both, already filled with a delicious looking breakfast.

"Good, you're right on time!" Makaha stated, smiling at his granddaughter and her best friend. "Go ahead and start eating, girls. I hope you enjoy."

"Thanks, Grandpa!" Aolani smiled cheerily at her guardian, giving him a brief hug and kiss on the cheek. "You're the best."

Makaha grinned, and ruffled his granddaughter's hair in return. "You're quite welcome, Aolani. Now, you two go ahead and eat up. I'll be reading in the living room if you need me."

Makaha nodded to them both one last time, and shortly exited the dining room.

Chiyo

"Well, Grandpa should be about ready with breakfast now, I think. You ready to eat, Chiyo?"

"Yes." the purplette eagerly replied, standing to join her friend. As the two descended the stairs, Chiyo very briefly thought she heard a ringing noise. It was gone after only a moment, but it had most certainly been there. Chiyo made a mental not to check for tinnitus next time she was alone in a quiet place.

When they arrived in the dining room, and saw the meal before them, Chiyo immediately turned to Aolani's grandfather to give her thanks. "Thank you very much, S- Professor Malo." Darn it. She really needed to stop doing that.

At his request, Chiyo pulled a chair out from underneath the table and sat down. After getting herself a little food, she waited until Aolani sat down and started eating before waiting for Aolani to begin eating. It was her house after all, and Chiyo never wanted to be rude.

Yuubey

Outside sitting in a tree, looking through the window into the dining room, Yuubey stretched out. While true hatred was far beyond his capability, annoyance, it seemed, was not something he was entirely immune to. Margaret Faust, was most certainly annoying him. Actually, considering the emotional implications, though not outright included in the definition, of annoyance, perhaps frustrated would be a better word, despite that actually being classified as an emotion in the technical sense, while annoyance was not.

Human languages, particularly English, the Incubator observed, were full of such divides between official definitions and the manner in which they were actually used.

But, semantics aside, Margaret had left for the moment, and would not return today if that phone call were anything to go by. This meant that he was finally free to do his job without having to deal with her interference. Unfortunately though, due to the current circumstances, all that he could do for the moment was watch and wait. All the same, at least he wouldn't have to run from Margaret or use some of his spares. That was just wasteful.

Aolani

Aolani sat down after a moment, and immediately started to dig in to the wonderful food. She gave a pleased noise as she chewed, greatly enjoying the taste. Grandpa's home-cooked meals were always the best...

"So, we have a lot of time before the sleepover starts," Aolani began, pausing in her eating. "What do you wanna do before that?"

She was up for just about anything, truth be told, especially if it took her mind off of...earlier events.

Chiyo

Chiyo considered the question for a minute. She was normally better at following along than leading, even in matters so simple as deciding what she and a friend would do with an afternoon. Still though, Aolani had asked, so she should definitely come up with something. Wasn't there anything that she wanted to do? There were a number of activities that she liked, but most of them were sort of solitary.

Suddenly, with a grin, it occurred to Chiyo just what she wanted to do, assuming of course Aolani was okay with it. "Civilization."

The smallish girl was surprisingly, or perhaps unsurprisingly, depending on how one chose to look at it, talented at the turn-based game of nations, and got quite into it once she started. It seemed that her cleverness and way for anticipating events served her quite well. That, and the fact that she was sort of awesome at games in general.

Plus her tablet had the game, and was generally wirelessly comparable with most other things.

"W-Well, if you don't mind, we could play Civilization?" Though phrased as a suggestion, the manner in which Chiyo spoke it was more akin to a question, or perhaps a request.

Aolani

Aolani smiled in return, and nodded her head. "Sure, Chiyo. That sounds like fun to me."

And it was, quite truthfully. Aolani wasn't one for computer games, usually, but playing such a game alongside Chiyo usually proved to be quite fun and entertaining. Especially when she provided some rather entertaining commentary.

"What nation should we play as?" she continued after a moment, helping herself to a bite of bacon. "Hm, how 'bout Russia? That could be interesting."

Chiyo

We? Well, Chiyo had no objection to playing as the same nation as Aolani, especially if that was what she wanted, but she should at least let Aolani know that there was another option, so that she would just be sort of watching while Chiyo played the game.

"If you want though, there's also the option of letting my tablet connect wirelessly to your computer, and then we could play that way." Wait a moment, would Aolani interpret that as Chiyo not wanting to play on the same side? "P-Please don't misunderstand though, I mean, we don't have to if you don't want to, I just thought you might like your own nation. There are even treaties we can make that will allow our soldiers to enter each-others borders without it being declaring war, and that way I can still help if you need it." Darn it, that carried alternate interpretations as well. "N-Not that you'd necessarily need it, and we can just both play on my tablet if you want, I just mean-" It was clear to the gamer that she was just making more blunders the more she tried to correct her previous ones, and she promptly stopped talking.

After a moment of looking at the floor, her face flushed, she turned her head to face Aolani once more. "Sorry, I was rambling again."
