Ophelia is a slight angel without much of a figure. Being an angel, she naturally has white feather wings that reflect the light of the sun. Her eyes are red and full of passion for her mission. She's certainly a devout angel, though only a low ranking one due to the single ring over her head. Disguised as a demon, Ophie darkens her eyes and hides her wings, though the feathers are magically changed into leathery bat wings befitting a proper demon. Born with a mutation, Ophie also has twin spike-tipped tails from her behind, typically seen as an ugly appendage to other angels. She also gave herself fake tiny horns, barely visible under her white hair. Hopefully no one can tell this demon is actually an angel.

Come here, cute little bird,

Come here, cute little bird,
But still, because your important feelings won't fade away,
I want to protect you from that harming wind.
I want to hear the song that the little bird really wants to sing

No the song that you offer to the nightmares in which you live,
but just the song about the feelings you have for your precious mother.
No matter how many times you were hurt, no matter how many times you had painful thoughts,
because you are still able of feeling these emotions,
I want you to sing a song that contains all of them.
The power of love will shine again, because of the courage you will have
to talk about the memories of your nightmares.
Yes, it's okay even if you sing together with the little bird of the nightmares,

it's okay if both of you offer one song together.
These singing voices will resound across the world,
and the song of the little bird will reach the hearts of a million of people.

The song of the little bird will converse with my heart.

Alestria City, Heaven

Lucian Illuvia | Father | ?? | Alive
Senna Illuvia | Mother | ?? | Alive
Laertes Illuvia | Brother | ?? | Alive

{☛ ⒽⒾⓈⓉⓄⓇⓎ ☚}
Alestria City was founded as a result of the coronation of Queen Kitra and her lover, Queen Celeste Angeal. To commemorate the joining of the races, Alestria City, founded on both sides of the now permanently open Gates to Heaven, was created. It was a city filled with promise and hope, and as such both demons and angels moved to live there, hoping for a future where both races could coexist. One of the migrating families was the Illuvia family, where Lucian and Senna, both soldiers who served under Gabriel Angeal as Purifiers of Darkness, they married and became joined as one family. With hopes and ambitions of being pioneers of peace, Lucian and Senna moved to Alestria City, retiring from their work as Purifiers of Darkness.

Ophelia was the first born child of the Illuvia couple. She was born with a mutation, she had two spike-tipped tails coiled together on her rear, dreadful appendages that were often looked down upon by other angels. Angels born with mutations like this were a result of their souls not being properly cleansed from their time living and dying as humans. Thus, Ophelia was no doubt still bearing the weight of the burdens she suffered as a human. Despite this, Lucian and Senna chose to hide the mutation, keeping it secret. As former Purifiers, they were obligated to report mutations, since it was part of a Purifier's job to help cleanse young angels by sending them to the purification center. Knowing it could take years to fix their daughter, the couple opted to cure her themselves, not wanting to be separated from their child.

Apricot Academy was a school made for angel and demon children to mingle and learn together. It was run by a mixture of angel and demon staff, and it was an experiment to see if children could grow and learn alongside the other race in order to foster good relationships on both sides. One such demon, Katua, became close friends with Ophelia. She had been taught by her parents to hide her ugly tails, and, while afraid, Ophelia and Katua became friends. They were often studying together and walking around the city, exploring as their own little duo. They hardly even noticed that in their class, everyone else split off into groups of demons and angels, with no intermingling between them. This isolated both Katua and Ophelia, and both girls became targets for bullying as a result. The demons would throw sticks at them, the angels would pretend as if they didn't exist. While it hurt and was scary, as long as they had each other they would be okay.

A boy was next born in the Illuvia family then. He would be named Laertes, and just like Ophelia, he too was born with a mutation, though unlike Ophelia his was much less visible, merely a white scar on his face. The purifier couple chose to allow him to remain with them as well, not wanting either of their children to go through the purification facility's practices. Ophelia and Laertes had a complicated relationship. They were siblings and sometimes they got along, but they had a lot of resentment for each other as well. Ophelia was used to being the only special one in her family, but as her parents divided their attention trying to cure the mutations for both of their children, Ophelia and Laertes would go into competitions to vie for attention. While there was love, there was also hatred as well.

As they grew older, Ophelia and Katua had a terrible incident. Inspired by the increasingly radical speeches by Baron Messiah, the young demons abducted Ophelia and Katua. They beat them up, telling Katua that demons could never be friends with angels, that demons could never live in peace. They broke Katua's arms, ripped off her tail, and told them they would sell them both to Messiah if she didn't start beating up Ophelia. Katua chose to fight back, and all that was left of her by the end was a broken soul piece that Ophelia cradled in her pocket arms as she was mercilessly abused for days until her brother, Laertes, found her and called for help. Ophie isolated herself after that, refusing to talk to any demons, viewing them as evil, as violent. At her first chance she signed up to join the Angel Knight program to train and serve directly under Queen Celeste in the Heavenly Palace. She made sure to hide her disgusting mutations and trained hard with a single goal in mind - to fight and kill demons for the sake of angel kind. A few years later, her brother would join the training, and the Illuvia Siblings both became Angel Knights working under Queen Celeste.

For many years the brother sister duo worked together to serve Queen Celeste. They were at her side, comforting her when Queen Kitra's head was delivered to them on a spike at Baron Messiah's hands. They were the only ones Queen Celeste trusted with the mission. Go undercover to demon-infested Earth as demons, and find a way to assassinate Baron Messiah, bringing an end to his evil. Ophelia and Laertes made a decision to compete against each other to see who would be first in completing the mission, parting ways as they reached Paris's ruined gates.

Rain and Ophie shared glares at each other while the others finished up with their little cakes. With that, Zinnia dismissed them, no doubt wanting some private time to spend with Rainarch, one of her old friends from a happier time. As the others left, Ophie hung back a little bit, glancing over at Zinnia's direction. Naturally, Zinnia knew she was an angel and Ophie too recognized that Zinnia had been touched by angels in her past. "Queen Celeste still wants to save you." She whispered as Rainarch was busy digging around in the kitchen to find more food. "She wants you to keep hoping for freedom one day." With the message sent, Ophie held her tails so they wouldn't knock anything over and followed after the rest of her group.

Already Ophie was being teased by the other Baronlings. They weren't wrong - the silver haired angel didn't care for demons or humans, she believed that both races were beasts that deserved what they got. They were both awful and full of sin, hurting others and hurting themselves for no reason except that they wanted to. Alice no doubt was endearing to both Sonata and Calciferous as she tried to copy Ophie's 'stinky' word. "It'll be fine. Rainarch doesn't seem like the kind of demon that cares about that." She had more concerns than someone simply calling her stinky. It was no secret that Demon King Messiah wanted to subjugate the wildlands outside of Hell to bring all of demon kind under his thumb. The outlaw demons that lived outside of Hell's walls all lived in a wild west land known as Teranos, ruled by the three demons of Teranos. Rainarch definitely had her hands full at the moment.

"Finally, we're back home." Calciferous yawned, stretching his arms behind his head as they walked. "It's always nice coming back home after going out." He was no doubt excited to get to using his scrying orbs to try and find out where Echo may be. "Be careful or you'll break them." Ophie warned as the lightning demon ran off in jittery excitement. "Too bad we didn't have time to get you new clothes." Sonata shook her head. "Don't we have internet?" Ophie pointed out with a little frown. Sonata and Ophie had worked together to make sure Baron Pierce's castle had working internet. Thanks to Vaswald, internet connections were possible around Europe, but there was still work to be done to make it accessible across the globe.

"Oh yeah! Alice, let's go check out shopping catalogs! We're close to Paris, so I'm sure it'll be easy to get deliveries here." The blonde demon pulled out some measuring tape as she took Alice to the lounge where the shared computer was waiting, already humming as Ophie tapped the power button. "Lemme just get your measurements, you need more than just a few dresses after all." The silver demon blinked as she thought of a good idea. "The Goddess has good clothes, and she's similar size to the human." Ophie suggested. "You could look at her blog to see what's available?" The human was pretty small, so normal sites might not have something in her size. "We can use the Holographer to manually try clothes out on you, Alice." Sonata explained, pointing to a little camera looking machine. "We're going to make you so pretty!"

Zinnia shook her head, she smiled at Ophie, it was a sad, mournful, sort of smile. "Tell her that unless she has Messiah's soul piece in hand, I will not dare to hope." With that, the door closed, allowing Ophie to return to her party. Sonata shook her head, "just try to be on your best behavior, okay? You too Cal, you almost tripped over yourself when you got those orbs." She bounced Alice on her hip to bring her higher up. The trees rustled with the spring wind and Alice shivered. The air smelled better outside of Paris, wild, less industrial. Alice was eager to learn more about their world, now that she was not going to join Monaka in the afterlife. Alice reached up as a bird flew overhead, wanting to catch one, but they were fast and she was small.

The large doors to the estate opened up, allowing them entry. Calciferous ran off almost immediately, clearly eager to play with whatever it was he had gotten. To Alice, they simply looked like glass balls. Baron Pierce did not come to greet them, to Alice's disappointment. She wanted to see him, but it appeared that he was still busy. Alice shook her head, she did not need new clothes. She lifted up her arms to gesture, she already had this nice new dress. Was that not enough? Ophie spoke of something called the internet, something Alice had never heard of. Shopping? Even more confusing words were thrown away as Sonata carried her to a new room. It had plush chairs and throw cushions, as well as a large screen. Alice's eyes widened as she took it all in, the windows allowing the light from the golden hour to fill the space with warmth.

It made her hair almost sparkle underneath it, giving her a halo of sorts. Sonata took out what looked like a string, she lifted Alice's dress off of her head and wrapped it around her. If the demon was bothered by Alice's tiny size, she did not show it. She wrapped the string around Alice's chest, waist, and hips. Alice shivered, goose flesh tickling her arms. Once that was done, Sonata helped her back into her dress and tied the ribbon in the back. "Go-Go...dd-es...s?" Alice asked in question, wondering what all of these words were. "Pr-e-t...ty?" Alice was not pretty, she knew. The demons had always called her ugly, she was an ugly little thing, that was what they would say. "Poor ugly, little human. No one is ever going to pay for that one." It was one of those things Alice had carried with her for a long time.

Alice did not understand what was happening or how anything worked, all she knew was that her dress had suddenly changed colors and was no longer a dress at all, but a shirt tucked into a pleated skirt. She started, nearly falling off of the chair in her surprise. She looked at Sonata and Ophie frantically, wondering what they had done. She lifted up the hem, the reach of the holograph melting away back into the dress. Alice waved a hand over it, the image flickering. Was it... magic? Was it witches, like Baron Pierce had told her? She blinked, looking to the demons to explain this to her.

It was strange to think about but of course Alice wouldn't know about the Goddess. Sonata's trademark smile was missing as Ophie mentioned the name. "You shouldn't talk about the Goddess." She said softly, shaking her head, eyes grown wide and worried. "The Goddess is a girl in Japan that saved Japan and made it so that the demons could not enter. She's the enemy of us demons." Sonata explained with a lecturing tone, wiggling her finger. "Her name is taboo, Baron Messiah will get angry." Loretta Hemond was partly responsible for why Demon King Messiah was still as of yet unable to control the entire world. He hadn't yet found a way to break through to the tiny island nation. The humans were prospering behind the Goddess's protection and there was nothing he could do about it for now.

"Of course you're pretty, Alice!" Sonata gave her a pat on the head after finishing the measurements and putting her back in the dress. "Isn't that right, Ophie?" The silver haired angel shrugged, her tails flopping behind her. "It's a human." Ophie said bluntly. "Humans aren't pr-" Sonata clapped a hand on her mouth and giggled. "You're a very beautiful girl Alice!" In a hushed tone she growled at Ophie. "It's good for every girl to believe she is beautiful, so be nice!" The angel knight wasn't sure why she was playing dress-up with a human. Sure, the human wasn't as stinky as it was in the beginning, but that didn't change the fact that it was a stinky human. Still, Ophie found herself calmly picking out outfits and having Sonata squeal in excitement as she applied the Holographer to Alice's clothes, changing them to match the outfits on trial.

"This is a Holographer. I bought it from Vaswald's palace during the last visit." Sonata explained giddily. "We can use it to take information from the internet and apply it so the information displays in 3D. Here, I can use it to make Ophie wear a table for a hat." She scanned the information and suddenly the hologram of a table appeared above Ophie's head. [color=#B31712]"Shouldn't we be ordering clothes for it?" Ophie asked pointedly, crossing her arms. That made Sonata huff in mild annoyance. "It? She's a girl! She's Alice, she has a name you know!" As they fussed over what to order, Baron Pierce came in to check on them.

Both Sonata and Ophie stood at attention. It was a sign of respect of course bow to your host Baron whenever seeing him. They didn't always do it, and he tried to tell them that it wasn't necessary, but some habits were hard to break. "Who was the visitor? Sonata asked and Baron Pierce smiled gently at them. "There were two. One was an old friend of mine, Baroness Elimine. She'll be coming again tomorrow with gifts for Alice." His smile widened as he saw Alice. "And what's this?" Sonata grew excited then. "Alice, twirl! Show off the new dress we'll be buying!" Ophie simply wondered if Alice's legs were strong enough yet to be able to twirl.

Alice blushed when Sonata said she was pretty, looking down at her lap and squirming. Alice nodded when Sonata explained the Goddess, placing a finger against her lips. She would not say the name then, if invoking the name would get them in trouble. She looked between Sonata and Ophie, smiling as her dress changed again. It had pictures of a four legged, brown creature. Alice pointed to them, wondering what they were. "Those are bears," Sonata explained patiently. Ophie was the pilot, the one choosing all of the outfits. Alice watched as Sonata reacted in delight to the different ones.

"Ho...l...l...o." It was much too big of a word for her clumsy mouth. It was a cute attempt though. She was taken aback when Sonata suddenly placed a table on Ophie's head. At first, her expression was one of confusion, then her face lit up in a smile. Not quite a laugh, not yet, at least. She began to cough, blood dribbling down her chin. Her expression quickly changed to one of distress when Ophie and Sonata began to fight. Was it because of Alice? Had she done something wrong? Was she going to be punished?

The door suddenly opened, Baron Pierce entering. She smiled as soon as she saw him, glad he had returned. As much as Alice liked being with Sonata, she had a feeling that Ophie did not like her. Gifts? Did Alice do something to deserve gifts? She wondered. Sonata told her to do a twirl, but Alice knew that if she tried to stand, she would fall. Instead, she lifted her arms in the air, spinning the top half of her body to do a half-spin of sorts. Baron Pierce laughed, taking out a cloth to wipe up the blood. "I am glad to see you are all enjoying yourselves. I was worried, being gone so long, but you seem to have found ways to entertain yourselves."

Alice lifted her arms up, Pierce reaching down to lift her up. "Wi-i-t-ch..." she took out the potion from her pocket, the one Zinnia had given her. She was wearing the seeking stone as well, on a cord underneath her dress. "How was the visit? Did Ms. Evernight have anything important to say?" Baron Pierce asked, looking at his emissaries.

As Sonata and Ophie traded verbal quips with each other, Sonata suddenly frowned and turned her attention to Alice, noticing the distress. "No, no, we aren't fighting, I'm just teasing her for being so insensitive." Sonata explained, trying to calm Alice down. Ophie rolled her eyes. "You shouldn't take everything so seriously." Something like that was dangerous, wasn't it? "Or we might just eat you for dinner!" Sonata huffed, shaking her head. "Ophie, that isn't helping! She's sensitive, you have to be careful so we don't upset or scare her!" That sounded like a waste of time. There was a special kind of pleasure when it came to tricking people after all, but Ophie figured someone like Alice would just cry and make it bothersome.

When Baron Pierce returned from his visit from Baroness Elimine, he asked if there was anything important the witch had said, holding Alice after the human did a little half twirl that somehow delighted both Pierce and Sonata. "She gave us labeled potions. Here, you can take a look. They're for our Baron Exam coming up." Sonata handed her backpack over for Baron Pierce to examine if he wished. Baron Exams were an event that happened once every ten years, where Baronlings went to the Eiffel Tower and if they were strong enough, they were awarded with a chance be tested by Demon King Messiah himself. There were six months left until the next Baron Exams began, so the Baron community was getting excited to see who next would join their ranks.

"She also thanked us for the flowers." Ophie added with a shrug. Sonata beamed, looking at how comfortable Alice looked with Baron Pierce. It was clear who her favorite was. "The visit was nice. Zinnia wanted to see Alice, and then she gave us cakes in her home." The little cakes were good, even Ophie had to admit it, but maybe it was because they were made by a witch rather than a demon. "Baron Pierce, can we take Alice to go see the farms?" Lesser demons and some human servants were put to work on the fields, though only demons got paid. "So we can show her how we grow our food and teach her plants names?" Sonata wanted to show the world to Alice, to see her eyes sparkle with curiosity.

However, before Baron Pierce could reply to her question there was a loud rumbling that shook the castle. Ophie's eyes narrowed, pulling out her tail blades. "That sounded like it was from Cal's room." Sonata was quick to rush over, and Ophie followed behind her, the two Baronlings making their way to Cal's room. To the smell of burning wood and char in the air, with a section of the castle blown up, Calciferous sat in the corner, shivering against the spring fresh air flowing in from the walls that no longer existed. He held a scrying orb in his hands, grinning. "Nova's alive!" He exclaimed, his excitement causing more lightning to strike around him. "I'm going to go look for her!" Ophie caught a glimpse on the orb, Baroness Nova was buried in a pile of books in what looked to be a library, fast asleep.

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#7AA9DD ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #BCD2EE

|| Fight Song|| Rachel Platten ||

Alice was confused, of course, by the arguing between Sonata and Ophie. It made her afraid that she had done something wrong, that she was a bad girl. Ophie told her not to take everything so seriously, but Alice did not know what a joke was. She shook her head, she did not want to be eaten! Baron Pierce had returned and lifted Alice up, it was clear that she had taken to him as much as he had taken to her. Alice trusted him, she felt safe with him. She did not see as many shadows when he held her. Baron Pierce placed her back down and took the bag from Sonata, going through it to see what the Witch had given them. "Yes, these look like they'll be of some assistance." He handed the bag back to Sonata and turned towards Ophie, "I trust that you watched over the others?" He smiled, knowing exactly what position Ophie liked to play.

She was the responsible one, Cal was the silly one, and Sonata was the nice one. "Perhaps tomorrow, I think Alice might be tired from all of the day's activities." Alice yawned blood dripping out of her mouth, it was nearly dinner time and there had been plenty of activity, much more than Alice was used to. Baron Pierce knelt down to wipe her mouth again, just then, the house began to rumble. He stood upright, a small smile coming onto his lips. "It seems as though someone is excited. Come Alice, let's follow the others." He lifted her up again, following in the direction Ophie and Sonata had ran in towards Calciferous's room. The back half of it was no longer standing, Alice's eyes widened at the sight.

"Settle down, settle down." Baron Pierce gestured, the house could be repaired, it wasn't the first time and it certainly would not be the last time. After all, he had practically had a hand in raising Sonata before she had full control over her powers. Her room had to be made out of special material that would not break the instant she sneezed and grew to a giant's height. "S..m-sme...ll." Alice wrinkled her nose, it smelled as though the entire room had been burnt. "Calm down Calciferous, we will speak of this over dinner." Baron Pierce was still smiling, he did not seem to mind the mess that had been made. "Yes, it does smell, that's called fire." He taped her nose, Alice wriggling it. "Come you three, let's see where this evening takes us."

He gestured for them to follow him to the dining room. He set Alice down, not in Ophie's seat this time, but on the other side, and took his own seat. Alice tilted her head curiously, watching as they all filed inside. Cal was covered in what looked to be char, he had not cleaned up before dinner, but then again, he hadn't the time. "Now, about this Baroness Nova." She was a ghost, one most Barons knew about, but had never seen in person. Baron King Messiah had ordered for her to be found, as she was one of the few Barons that had escaped swearing fealty, as she had disappeared altogether. "What would you do if you did find her?"

"They can take care of themselves." Ophie muttered with a distinct frown. "If they want to go get themselves killed, that's less competition for me." Sonata giggled, giving Ophie a big hug. "You're just saying that! I know you love us super much!" The angel winced and growled, trying to get the stinky demon to stop hugging her and to get off of her. She slashed at Sonata in panic with her tails, shivering and hugging herself. "Ophie, that's not how to react to a hug." Sonata joked, shooting a worried glance at Alice, but it was clear she noticed something was wrong. "Th-then don't do that without warning me next time." She took a deep breath, putting her tails back into her cloak where they belonged, unhappy with the whole situation.

Cal was singed, but otherwise, everything was fine. He put the orb away, grinning like a child to himself. "Geez, you had us all worried. Maybe it was a Baron attack or something." While it was technically against the law for a Baron to attack another Baron's castle, Baron King Messiah never did anything to enforce that law. As long as you could properly take over the territory and manage it without too much hassle, he wouldn't intervene in personal squabbles. And there were many Barons who just didn't get along with each other, so territory battles weren't uncommon. "I'm more than fine." Cal's grin was as bright as the sky. "I'm the happiest I've ever been in years!" Ophie snorted, crossing her arms. "Be careful. Don't get your hopes up only to get disappointed in the end." Why was she giving this advice? wouldn't it be more entertaining to watch Cal get emotionally invested only to fail, accomplishing nothing?

It was now dinner time and Baron Pierce conducted the conversation, bringing it to Baroness Nova. Cal smelled if possible, even worse than he usually did, but Ophie still dutifully sat in her seat, just as she liked to. "What would I do if I..." Calciferous paused as if suddenly unsure. "I dunno. It's been so long, I just wanted to make sure she was alive..." He slapped his cheeks, shaking his head "But if I found her, then that means someone else might! And I don't want someone else to find her first!" They all knew what it would mean. Baroness Nova would be dragged kicking and screaming back to Baron King Messiah's Eiffel Tower and forced to pledge loyalty. "I'd take her here, and keep her safe. O-or if you'd rather, I can go somewhere else and protect her." The idea of a Baronling protecting a Baron was funny, but his heart was in the right place.

"Why don't we go looking for her?" Sonata suggested with a smile. "I'd love to meet my Auntie again." Though did Nova remember the little baby that could change her size? It was a long 200 years, and Baroness Nova was always aloof at best. "Sure, and I'll stay here and get points while you're both on a wild goose chase! Come back in seven months once the exams are done." But even Ophie's sarcasm wasn't enough to curb Cal and Sonata's shared enthusiasm. With an agitated furling of her wings, she rolled her ruby eyes Alice's way as if to convey that those two Baronlings were a little crazy.

Alice did not really listen as the demons talked, there was nothing for her to add, not that she could properly add anything. So she ate, reaching for her spoon, soup set out before her. It was full of things she could not identify, tiny grains and meaty lumps. It was good though, Alice liked it. She ate as much as she could, then she put down her spoon and leaned back in her chair, feeling satisfied. "Now that you have located her, it is more likely someone else will have as well." Baron Pierce nodded in agreement. After all, if someone had been looking for Baroness Nova and one scrying orb had located her, it meant that many more now had the ability to. In a way, Calciferous's foolish stubborness and refusal to give up could very well endanger the life he wanted to protect.

Baron Pierce leaned forward in his seat. "The house will be undergoing renovations for the next few months due to Cal's accident," there was a twinkle in his eye. Alice looked up, wondering what this would mean. "I think this would be a great opportunity and field test before you three take the official Baron Exam." Were his intentions obvious? "It has been a while since I've left the estate myself, I think this will be a great opportunity for all of us." Alice looked up in alarm, would he be leaving her behind? Did this mean she was going to stay here all alone, without him? Alice reached for his sleeve, tugging on it. "Don't worry little one, you'll be coming too." He assured her, patting her head. She sighed in relief, not having realized she had been holding her breath.

"Calcifer, aside from that one glance in the orb, did you recognize any of the surroundings? Do you have a specific location or idea as to which direction we will need to go in?" Otherwise, this would be nothing less than a wild goose chase. Alice tilted her head in question, there was more than just the estate and Paris? She scrubbed a hand over her eyes, suddenly feeling tired. Ophie did a gesture similar to her's, but it seemed to be in frustration more than anything. "Ophie, you will be coming as well." Baron Pierce said kindly, "Rene will take care of the renovations while we are gone. Won't you?" The kind human with the purple hair jumped to attention. Alice started, she had not realized that Rene had been standing in the corner this entire time. "Yes, of course Baron," she dipped into a low curtsy. "Also, Rene, would you mind taking Alice to bed while we make plans?" She nodded again, wordlessly lifting Alice up, who was feeling very sleepy.

"Come on you, bath time." She smiled, carrying her upstairs. She placed Alice on the floor, the tiny human watching as Rene started the bath and added soap, making it bubbly. "So-soa...p." Alice muttered as Rene undressed her and placed her in the tub. It was warm, just like yesterday, like someone had wrapped their arms around her. "Don't make a fuss, alright? I'm going to scrub your hair, since it looks like Ophie didn't do it." She poured water over Alice's head, the little human flailing, as it was not something she had expected. Rene scrubbed it with lavander scented shampoo and then made it soft with rose scented conditioner. When that was done, she dumped more water over the poor girl's head without warning and scrubbed her down from top to bottom, the water turning gray once more.

When that was done, Rene wrapped her in soft towels and brushed her hair, then helped Alice into a nightgown. "Your room will be ready by the time you come back, since Cal's projectile hit it." Rene said as she placed Alice in Baron Pierce's bed. Alice yawned, stretching and hugging Dog against her, falling asleep.

Even as the birds chirped and the cicacas sang, Ophie still did not know how she got herself into this situation. "Laertes will be in for a laugh when he hears about this..." The angel knight shook her head, pruning her feathers. Just how did it happen that she was going to go out and camp and sleep with and live so close to the demons and a human? Why did she have to accompany them? How bad would the stink get if they couldn't get access to clean hygienic showers? She groaned as she packed her belongings which were few - just a picture of her brother, Laertes, her necklace with Katua's soul piece attached to the end, her swords she could use with her tails, hygiene products, and lastly, and perhaps most obviously, a few spare clothes.

After singing a song only angels knew to prepare her mind for the day Ophie descended the steps with a sleepy yawn. Breakfast was already ready, the smell of good food poisoned by the blood of humans assaulted her nose each and every day. It physically hurt angels to consume human blood, but she had to do it in order to remain in disguise. "Your breakfast is almost cold you know." Cal had a very empty backpack slung over his shoulders as he munched on the bacon. "I almost ate it myself! What a waste of good bacon!" Sonata giggled, her plate was already clean. "Hurry up and eat so we can go! Alice thinks you're a slowpoke, don't you, Alice?" She poked Alice's nose and laughed. Baron Pierce waved at her patiently. "Give her time to eat. We've got quite a journey ahead of us after all."

"A demon's gotta get her sleep before a trip after all." Ophie muttered, slinking into the corner. "Otherwise my life threatening illness will get me killed." Sonata sighed, shaking her head. "She doesn't have one." She said quickly before Alice got worried and began fussing. "Ophie, what happens if Alice didn't have us here to tell her the truth?" Cal grinned, almost choking as he finished his bacon that he shoveled into his mouth. "One of these days you'll be in real trouble and Alice won't help you cuz she'll think you're joking!" Ophie rolled her eyes with a sigh, her silver hair nearly blocking her eyes due to not being brushed in the slightest. "As if a weak little human could be of much help." Demons were by far stronger than a human could be.

Sonata looked Baron Pierce's way, curiosity in her eyes. "So, where are we going first?" She asked as Ophie sluggishly wrapped her cloak around her, trying not to grimace as the pain in her stomach settled. "Where do you think that library could be?" Baron Pierce put a hand to his chin and thought for a moment. "I did a little research, and there are quite a few libraries around Europe she could be in. The closest is the Berlin State University in Germany, so we'll be giving Baroness Vaswald a visit." But even that was so far from here! "What about the library in Paris?" Ophie asked pointedly and Baron Pierce replied with patience. "If Baroness Nova were to be anywhere near Paris, she would have been found already." Ophie sighed, figuring that that would make sense.

It was the same routine every morning: wake up, food, the hose, clothing, and puzzles. Then there was more food, free time, and sleep. The little human had come to know this pattern, she had memorized it, it was the only way she knew how time passed. Today, however, was different. She had finished clothing, but there were no puzzles. Her simple mind was upset by this disrupt in her routine as she waited, sitting on the floor of her small room. Normally by now, they would come to get her and take her to the puzzle-solving place. Sometimes it was physical puzzles, like mazes or obstacle courses. Most of the time, they were mental challenges. The blonde was especially good at picking out the patterns that had to do with colors.

"This one here, I believe will best suit your needs." The human looked up at the sound of voices, but they were not the usual ones. A demon in a lab coat was escorting two others, but they were not humans. One was a demon, the other, the little human did not recognize. The door to her room opened, the glass slate squeaking on its hinges. The human sat upright, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "I don't want to do this," the one with the red hair said. The human reached up to touch her own bald head. "It's alright, this one is simple minded, it likely won't recall anything." The human smiled, uncertain what they were speaking of. She knew she was not as smart as she others, she knew was not as strong or clever. The one with the red hair trembled, as though this act was against her very nature.

The human never learned their names, but she knew their faces. The red one uncapped a vial and handed it to her. "Drink," her words were soft, her instructions firm. The human nodded and drank it, the taste salty. She made a face, her body stiffening. The effects were immediate, "That wasn't so hard, was it?" But the red headed one was crying as the human slumped to the ground, images flashing before her eyes that no one else could see.

"Easy there, you're alright." Alice had not realized that she was crying out in her sleep. She was clinging to Baron Pierce, the sun filtering in through the window. Dog had been discarded somewhere on the end of the bed, Sc-sca...r-re...d." Alice clung to him, tears trickling down her cheeks. "There's nothing scary here, look." He opened his palm slowly, a blue flower blossoming in his hand. Her eyes widened, twinkling. She looked up at Baron Pierce in wonder as he tucked the flower behind her ear. "You've awoken just in time to watch the sunrise," he lifted her, carrying her to the windowsill and wiping up the blood around her chin with a gentle hand. "Are you still scared?" He asked, to which Alice shook her head.

They sat on the sill until Rene knocked to help Alice get ready. "I'll be downstairs," he assured her, patting her head as Rene entered. "Good morning Alice, are you ready for your adventure?" Alice nodded eagerly as Rene dressed her in pants and a shirt, with thick woolen socks and heavy boots. Downstairs, Sonata and Calcifer were just arriving as Rene placed her down. Ophie was the last to arrive, complaining that she had to sleep in, least her illness take her. Alice's eyes widened, but they assured her that Ophie would be fine, that there was no illness. Alice also had no idea where Berlin was, but she excited to go. Rene had given her Dog for the journey, the item a comfort to the little human.

Although Baron Pierce's castle was really close to Paris, Pierce's territory was actually the region to the north of Paris, a county called Ameins that comprised of the north corner of France. It was smaller than some demon's territories, but Baron Pierce was satisfied with governing Amiens and making it a place where people could live without fear of being hurt or abused by others. It wasn't the richest, nor was it the most technologically advanced, but it was a nice place with a strong agricultural value. "Who will govern Amiens while you're gone, Pierce?" Calcifer asked, surprisingly responsible for once. Baron Pierce had responsibilities here after all, he couldn't just go on trips all the time. "I've appointed a few of my staff to take care of decisions for me." Baron Pierc explained in his quiet, calming way of speaking. "Any major decisions, they can call me to consult me." Thanks to Baroness Vaswald, most Barons now knew how to use phones at least, even if demons were traditionally technophobic, they learned to adapt.

Alice made a little sound, trying to speak. She wasn't the best speaker right now but Ophie had a feeling over time the human would learn and become more verbose. Sonata's eyes widened in surprise and delight. "That's such a big word! Good job, Alice! You're getting a lot better!" Calciferous grinned, giving her a candy as a reward, a lemon flavored drop. "Maybe one of these days you'll even beat our Ophie in talking!" Ophie rolled her eyes. "Not that it would take much to surpass you, Calciferous." They were wasting time standing around talking though when there was a Baroness Nova to find and save. "We should be going. Did you say your last farewells to the mansion for now?" Baron Pierce asked. Sonata and Calciferous both looked back at their home and Cal chuckled, staring at the burned broken wall that used to be his room. "It's a nice castle, but Alice is probably itching to see the world." Sonata beamed at the little human, playing with her fingers.

As they walked down the trail towards Paris where a train would be waiting to pick them up to head to Berlin, Ophie gave sparing glances at the vast fields of wheat and other vegetables she could see in the distance, all farms governed by Baron Pierce. She was an angel, but even she could appreciate that the demons were taking better care of the land now than they did Hell. Hell had become an uninhabitable fiery land due to all the war and waste. They learned one of their lessons at least. "One of these days we should give Alice a tour of our home, Amiens." Sonata said softly. "Have her meet the locals, you really gathered a group of nice demons here." The demons that lived in Amiens tended to be passive, enjoying the simple life of tending to crops and being with family.

Still, that didn't change the truth that Ophie knew, that all demons had inside their blood - the desire to kill, to hurt, to hunt, to maim. All demons had it, and she knew no demon could withstand that urge forever, not even Baron Pierce. "Welcome back to Paris." Ophie said, looking about. The city of fashion and of love, and the city Baron King Messiah claimed as his. "Wait, what about our clothing orders?!" Sonata exclaimed suddenly. "The clothes we bought for Alice that was going to be mailed in! All those pretty dresses!" Sonata stared at the stores, running in. It took about five minutes for her to return with a bundle of fresh new clothes, all in Alice's size from the children section. As Calciferous snorted, Ophie rolled her eyes. "That's your job to carry, my hands are full with my tails thanks." With a big bag full of clothes kept in grip, Sonata's arms were in for the long haul.

They praised her for saying such a big word, but Alice had been merely copying them. Still, she seemed to glow ehen her head was pat and candy was distributed. She would not beat Ophie in talking, Alice could tell. Ophie was smart, she was talented too, Alice could tell. Alice was not smart and not very talented, she did not know a lot and Ophie knew much more. Of course, she had been wrong about the creature called cat being a monster. It was not a monster, but an animal, Rene had explained when Alice had pointed to it out this window during last night's bath. Alice did not know which one was true and which one was the lie, but she hoped to never encounter the monster in real life, if that was the correct answer.

Baron Pierce lifted Alice up, it seemed it was time to go. She winced as they stepped into the light of Paris, the sun bright and high in the sky. Alice waved to the demons working in the field, turning to smile up at Baron Pierce, who had a gentle expression on his face. "Perhaps when we return, but for now, we should fix ourselves on the journey ahead and not what we are leaving behind." They would take the train from Paris to Berlin, Alice did not know what a train ws, but she knew that they were all speaking of it. "There were far too many stranded after the battle, I merely did my part in giving them a place to stay." He shook his head, green hair billowing in the wind. There were flowers growing in it, their petals blossoming in the sunshine.

They had reached Paris, the capitol city of the demon paradise. Alice watched as Sonata bustled off into stores, returning with arm fulls of clothing. Her head spun, watching as she bustled from one spot to the next, returning with clothing in the height of fashion. "Perhaps we should purchase a suitcase for all of those things?" Pierce inquired, a light laugh rolling off of his tongue. He clearly did not mind their energy, if anything, he seemed to enjoy it. Alice reached out to touch one of the dresses, rubbing the material between her fingers. She liked it, she decided, it was soft. She hugged Dog against her as they reached a large building, steam billowing out the back. "I'll pick up our tickets, one moment." Baron Pierce handed Alice to Sonata and went to speak to the attendant.

He returned with the tickets, they had a cabin all to themselves. "We'll be in the first car," Baron class ammenities of course. The train ride was about eight hours long, the fastest and most direct route they could take without changing trains. He did not want to have to switch too many times, considering there were multiple people and bags to coordinate. "Everyone in, right foot first for good luck." Sonata directed, her smile sparkling. Their cabin was spacious, with a table and couches. Sonata placed Alice beside the window, "you're going to want to look outside." Alice nodded, a bit intimidated by the large metal monster that had swallowed them the moment they stepped on.

With the sound of the whislle, they all entered the train. Ophie had to hold her breath to protect herself from the odor of many demons stuck together in a small enclosed space. A sensitive angel like her shouldn't have to deal with this kind of abuse. Laertes was going to laugh at her for having it so hard. Ophie only hoped her brother was also suffering as bad as she was. The train looked neat inside the special cabin they afforded thanks to Baron Pierce's status as a Baron. The door was tinted glass, the seats were soft and had tables you could pull out from the sides, there was even a space above to put bags and other things. Their cabin even had bathroom that self cleaned, much to Ophie's delight after exploring their space. "It's almost like a little house just for us." Calciferous said with a happy look on his face. It was clear he never went in a Baron cabin before.

Alice was given a seat by the window and Ophie stared absentmindedly out of it as well, waiting for the train to begin moving. She rubbed at her horns, frowning a little because the plastic horns felt really uncomfortable on her head. Her wings furled awkwardly behind her, having difficulties finding space when her tails also took up plenty of space behind her. With both wings and tails it was hard for the silver haired angel to find good seating. "Well we can't just sit here thinking to ourselves." Cal had a manic grin on his face. Of course a moodmaker like him had something planned for this eight hours on a train. He thumped the table with his fist, inviting everyone to gather around. Sonata helped Alice over, and Ophie sighed, unmoving as she continued to watch the fields go on by.

"We're going to play a game." Calciferous announced with a dramatic tone of voice, a spark clear in his eyes. From his hand he placed from his pocket onto the table, a deck of cards. "We're going to teach Alice the joys of card games! I think Texas Hold'em will be the best way to begin learning." Teaching a stinky human child poker? What kind of idiot was Calciferous Graves? "Are you sure she can handle a poker game?" There was a whole lot to memorize. Cal snickered. "Oh yeah? Then what game should we teach her then?" Sonata giggled, pulling Ophie over with force, making her sit at the table by the sofas. "A much simpler game. We'll teach her Old Maid."

Ophie explained the rules of Old Maid in a flat tone. The cards are distributed evenly among the players, and then the players remove any number pairs they have. Then one by one they randomly pick a card from another player's hands. Ophie finished shuffling the deck and removed the red joker card, leaving only the black joker in. "By the end if you have this card, you lose." Ophie explained, showing it to everyone, then putting it randomly into the deck. "That's one way to get her talking." Sonata giggled, sharing a high five with Cal. The angel rolled her eyes, already slightly annoyed at all of this. "Pierce, help Alice with her cards, I'm not sure if she can hold them yet." You needed a little bit of motor skills after all.

As they played, Sonata had an idea. "If we're going to be visiting Baroness Vaswald, shouldn't we tell Alice a little about her so she knows what to expect?" Baron Pierce nodded, smiling. "Why don't we all say something about Baroness Vaswald for Alice?" He looked at his Baronlings expectantly. "She has a human named Cress that had her age frozen by Baron Messiah. Crescent Winter does a lot of the cooking for her." Ophie decided she would go first. "She's the most technological Baron! Her Castle can turn into a giant robot!" Cal exclaimed with excitement. "She's in love with a cute little Baronling." Sonata said with a blush. "I think her name is Shiro?" It was odd how the three of them opted not to tell Alice about how Vaswald had a sister, and how the two of them could fuse together to become the Herald of Destruction. For Alice's sake, perhaps it was best she didn't know that part.

The train lurched forward as it moved, Alice gripping Dog in panic as the scenery began to change. Her first time in a moving machine had been in darkness, the times after that most always were due to the fact that humans were never deemed worthy enough for a seat. Baron Pierce was the first to let her sit in the space where demons sat. Now, she was in a fancy cabin, sitting in a plush seat with a window taller than her. She pointed to the sky, where animals were circling above them, but they quickly disappeared. Alice's eyes were wide, sparkling with joy as she stared at the clouds, sitting in content silence. She watched as Paris rolled away and turned into hills and fields, the train chugging along at a comfortable pace.

A human knocked on the door, entering with tea and snacks. She wore an iron collar around her neck and was dressed with a smile as she silently poured tea into cups and left a plate for them to munch on. Alice reached for a cake, nibbling on it as they passed an orchard. Alice pointed to it, looking up at the others. Was that Baron Pierce's house? They did not see though, they were paying attention to other things. They were making loud noises, debating on games. Alice looked back out the window, holding Dog in one hand and cake in the other. There was frosting smeared on her lips, the corners of her mouth turned up in a smile. The shadow people did not bother her, instead they lurked quietly in the corners, watching her with strange expressions.

Suddenly, Alice was lifted from her seat, dropping Dog. She reached for it, but no one seemed to notice. She was set down again with the others, they wanted to play a game, they wanted to teach her a game. Her hands were sticky with cake crumbs and icing, Alice turned, her attention changing from the window to the game. Ophie yelled at Cal, who wanted to play something called Texas. What was a Texas? Alice wondered. Ophie instead wanted to play Old Maid. Alice wrinkled her nose, it sounded like a game that smelled bad. The rules sounded easy, but there was one problem. Alice could not recognize numbers, she did not know how to measure the passing of time or the quantity of something. Baron Pierce reached over, placing Alice on his lap. He reached for his napkin, cleaning up the frosting on her hands and dabbing at the blood that continued to dribble from her lips. "Not so much cake there, you wouldn't want to get sick."

Alice nodded, releasing her cake. She looked at their hand, which Baron Pierce held dutifully so that both of them could see it. She pointed to two cards, looking up at him. He winked in response and Alice smiled, thinking she must have done something right. They offered up information on Baroness Vaswald, whom they would be visiting. She had a human, frozen in time, and a Baronling she had a crush on. What was a crush? Alice did not know, but from the way Sonata was blushing, Alice thought it might be something adults did. "There is more, I'm certain, you can all think of then that," Baron Pierce smiled. "What about her technilogical attributes to demon society?"

Ignoring the tea and snacks due to not wanting to suffer physical pain, Ophie was forced to join Calciferous and Sonata as they tried to work out what card game they would play. In the end they decided on playing Old Maid, though if Alice had any say in it no doubt she wouldn't have wanted a game based on numbers. "Make sure to help her in case she doesn't get it." Sonata reminded Baron Pierce, knowing there was probably a lot Alice wouldn't be able to easily understand, even if something was explained in a way most others could. For all they knew Alice was raised in the human pet facility where they were bought and sold, and pets usually weren't given an education unless a special order was made for one to be educated in something.

After talking a little about Baroness Vaswald, Calciferous through up his hands after choosing a card from Sonata's hand. "Dammit, I drew the old maid!" He cursed, shaking his head. Sonata giggled as Ophie raised an eyebrow. "You know you're not supposed to tell us you have it." Now everyone would know not to choose Calciferous to draw cards from, because they knew he was the one with the card they didn't want to take. In the end, all cards were paired up and Calciferous was left with the unpaired sad Old Maid. "Do you want to play again?" Sonata asked the child kindly. "Or we could show you more games." Ophie shrugged. "Shouldn't we do something that would actually benefit her and teach her how to read and write?" Then she wouldn't be so unable to communicate with anyone. "Actually, that sounds splendid." Baron Pierce produced a paper and pen and Sonata was glad to grab receive the pen from him, gently making the strokes and sounding each letter out for Alice.

Baron Pierce was testing their knowledge on Baroness Vaswald's technological additions to demon society. "Didn't she help make this very train?" Ophie asked, since she saw the signature 'V' as an insignia on the head of the train before they entered it. "It's run using magical energy so it doesn't harm the environment." Baron Pierce smiled patiently. "That's half correct. Baroness Vaswald discovered an energy source called Phylactos, and it's easily reusable and doesn't harm anything. We're using Phylactos energy to power many of our devices now." It was safer and stronger than nuclear energy that humans were trying to make use of anyways.

"I heard she made a device that could create artificial human blood that was just as authentic as real human blood." Sonata said softly. "That's correct." Baron Pierce explained. "Some human blood had diseases in them that made demons get sick, and some humans don't like having to give up blood for the blood tax. The Blood Fixer makes blood out of water, free of disease, with no humans harmed in the process. Some Barons have already adapted, while others still prefer taking blood directly from the source." Baron Pierce had a Blood Fixer in his mansion, it was in his kitchen. "She also kept the internet going back when it crashed!" Cal grinned as he munched on a cake. "Now demons all over the world can be connected through the online world!" It was clear Baroness Vaswald had done many things to improve life for demons all over. Ophie still didn't know though - was it Ellen Winter doing this, or had Ellen already died inside her head, giving up control to Vaswald?

Alice did not lose the game, but she did not win either. Their pairs had been made, but they were the last to make them. Baron Pierce tried to help Alice as much as he could, but she was distracted and continued to look towards the window whilst he dealt with their hand. Dog was laying on the floor, dropped, forgotten about. Alice turned back towards them, sighing silently. The game was finished at last, she shook her head, not wanting to play again. She found things like this boring, considering she did not understand them. Of course, Alice understood the concept and she was quite good at picking out patterns, but matching was boring and she was better with colors rather than tangible items. Ophie suggested teaching her things that would help her read and write, but Alice had little interest in that sort of thing, of course, it was because no one had ever had the patience to teach her.

It seemed Baroness Vaswald was especially prevelant, considering she had built the very train they were riding. Alice's eyes widened, so this was train? Sonata slid the paper across the table, having written symbols that Alice had seen plenty of times before, but did not know what they meant. "Repeat after me," Sonata directed, using the pen to point Alice to the beginning. "This is A, A says Ah." Alice squirmed in Baron Pierce's lap, he stroked her head, as though telling her to be patient. "Just say ah," Sonata smiled. "Ah-ah," Alice tried, turning bright red at her attempt. Sonata clapped her hands, smiling. "Good! Let's keep going," she nudged Ophie, as though to tell her that Alice was not as stupid as they had originally thought. No doubt Ophie thought this to be ridiculous, Alice was not so dumb that she could not recognize that Ophie wanted nothing to do with her.

They went through what was called the alphabet twice, while the others spoke of inventions and taxes. "You can put all of the sounds together to make words..." Sonata trailed off as Alice looked away again. "What's got you so excited over there?" The demon asked, standing. It was then that she spotted the toy on the floor and lifted it, bringing it for Alice to take hold of. "Silly girl," Baron Pierce smiled as Alice stroked Dog's fur, making sure the fluffy white hair on it was clean. "Have you given your toy a name yet?" Cal asked and Alice nodded. "D-D-o...Dog." Alice replied, holding it up for them to look at. "That's a si-" Sonata elbowed Cal in the ribs, hard. Alice did not yet understand the importance of names, she did not know the difference between giving a name and a creature having one.

Alice reached across the table, picking up the deck of cards while the demons spoke. She ran her fingers along the groves, laying them on the table one by one, organizing them by their symbols. It was methodical, she could tell that their quantities grew higher, it was the King, Joker, Queen, and Ace that confused her. She looked for a symbol she recognized on them, squinting, then placing them in the piles. Another human entered with a cart, this one toting lunch. "Ah, I thought it might be about time for food." Baron Pierce joked, considering they had just had tea service. "I guess, if the synthetic blood didn't exist, we would run out of humans a lot faster." It was a joke of course, the blood tax was no longer mandated, but it was suggested, since they could now use water that turned into human blood.

As Sonata tried to teach Alice letters, it seemed Alice didn't seem all that intent on learning. "Maybe she'll want to learn the alphabet if we teach her about stories?" Calciferous offered. He wanted to be able to communicate more with Alice, to get more of what was going on inside that head of hers. He was a Tower Society demon, so he was always on good terms with humans in general after all. Before they could begin though, lunch was delivered. Sonata was happy to teach Alice about the names of the foods, from the bisque pasta to the Caesar salad. "Ophie, you should tell a story!" Calciferous volunteered Ophie against her will, raising her arm. "Make it a fun and entertaining story." Sonata reminded her. "Maybe it'll help you and Alice get along better?"

The angel really didn't feel like telling stories. She wasn't much for talking anyways, not with demons and humans anyways. This cabin, for all it's fancy tech, was beginning to smell all over again due to how many demons were trapped in this relatively smell enclosure. Still, with both Calciferous and Sonata's eyes on her she felt pressure to at least do something, otherwise they would never let her live it down. "Fine." She sighed, narrowing her eyes to a slit. What kind of story would she tell then? Obviously not the kind of story that would reveal her as an angel, that would just be beyond idiotic. Angels didn't receive any legal protections in demon Earth, they were even lower than humans as far as Baron King Messiah was concerned. "If you really want one of my stories, then I guess I have no choice."

With a deep breath and an internal groan, she began. "Once upon a time, there was a Princess. She was trapped in a tower, isolated from the world. All she wanted to do was draw and spread her art around the world, her beautiful drawings that only she could see. One day, someone came to her tower and pulled her away from it." At first her tone was blank and deadpan as always, but as she started it began to get more animated. She was telling a modified version of Celeste and Kitra's story, after all. "The visitor told her, "I will take you away from here!" and stole the Princess away from her castle. "You will draw your art for me, so only I can see!"

The Princess had a lot more freedom in her new home with the strange visitor. The Princess was allowed to draw, she was allowed to bring joy to someone's heart. In exchange for her beautiful drawings she was given food, she was given friends, she was allowed to be who she wanted to be rather than a lonely girl trapped in a tower all alone. When the Princess's family came to take her back, she declared she would stay with the visitor, who she now loved. "Inspired by the declaration of love, the visitor decided she would grant the Princess her wish and spread her paintings throughout the land. For every smile her drawings can create, it was worth every day trapped in the lonely tower." Suddenly Ophie blushed, realizing she had spoken way more than an undercover angel ever should. "I'm going to use the bathroom now." She decided, escaping and shutting the door behind her.

Alice listened to Ophie's story with rapt attention. It was a good story, Alice decided after listening to the whole thing. The room had gone quiet as Ophie told it, at first monotone, but slowly opening up, telling a wonderful story about a girl locked in a tower. Of course, anyone else would have thuoght the story to be a fairy tale, that of Rapunzel, no doubt believing the stranger to be Prince Charming. Of course, no one would have suspected that the tale was truly that of Queen Celeste and the fomer demon Queen, Kitra. When the story was over, Ophie suddenly stood, rushing to the bathroom to steal a moment to herself. Alice watched her go, sad to see her leave. "That was a good one," Sonata sighed dreamily. "Isn't it romantic?" She smiled, stirring her sald with her fork. Alice looked down at her food, it smelled fragrant, but she had been so distracted by the story that she had hardly paid mind to the meal.

Alice ate what she could and then worked on the cake, suddenly coughing. Baron Pierce was quick to wipe up the blood. "How long until she stops bleeding like that?" Cal asked, concern clear cut in his voice. He didn't like it, no doubt if she walked around, blood dripping from her lips, it would tempt a demon. "The Doctor said that once Alice gains a few pounds, it should stop." Baron Pierce reassured them. It had only been two days, but already Alice was seeing more of the outside than she ever had. She tried to turn around in Baron Pierce's lap, to hold the fork up for him to eat from. Did he want cake? Alice wondered as she held it up to him. "No Alice, that's yours." He said, pushing her hand down gently so that she would not get crumbs everywhere.

"Once she has a bit more strength, I'm sure she'll be running, and climbing, and getting into everything. Just like Sonata," Cal grinned, patting Sonata's head, who crossed her arms and made a loud "humph! I did not!" Of course, Cal had practically raised her in the safety of Baron Pierce's home, who had been gracious enough to let them live there. It was while Cal was waiting for testing to become a Baron that Sonata decided she wanted to try too. He had reconnected with a few demons that had survived from the Tower Society, but there were only a handful he had managed to find. He had held onto hope for so long that Nova was alive and now, he would be trying to find her. Of course, he hoped he was the first one to make it.

"Fr-fri-e....en-nd...s." Alice held out her fork, another bit of cake on it, since she had eaten the one she tried to feed Baron Pierce. "No Alice, that's yours." Sonata said, smiling. "Go on, finish your cake." Alice's shoulders slumped a bit in disappointment, "but yes," Cal jumped in quickly. He was beginning to grow worried about Ophie, who had been in the bathroom for a long time. "We're your friends," he smiled. Satisfied, Alice moved the fork back to her own mouth, finishing her cake herself.

Where was the silver haired angel anyways? As quickly as she entered the bathroom she turned herself invisible and snuck out the window, using her tail spikes to dig into the sides of the train to help her reach the roof of the train car. She sighed, feeling the wind blowing on her body as the train traversed the French plains, as villages and forests and rivers passed on by in the horizon. Using her tails to secure her spot she lay down flat on the top of the train car, staring up at the sky, at the clouds, as the sun light shined through the white wisps. It was noon, there was still three hours left until they arrived in Berlin. Soon the train would be passing through the border checkpoint between Germany and France. Thankfully, due to demons taking over the world, borders like that no longer meant anything so they didn't need travel Visas or anything.

"Queen Celeste..." Just saying the name felt comforting to her. Why was she here on Earth, forced to deal with stinky demons and smelly humans? Who was there to take care of her beloved Queen? Celeste was all alone up there. Yes, she had her family, but Gabriel and Maya were probably busy taking care of their children and governing for her, while Raphael and Lilim (who Ophie learned to respect due to her being half angel in the first place) were often going on honeymoons together. "If Laertes and I are gone too long, Celeste will be lonely..." She was almost like a child that couldn't handle her emotions, crying ever since Queen Kitra's spine was ripped out of her body, her head sent directly to their doorstep in Heaven.

How long would this mission be? It was clear Ophie didn't belong here. While sharing quips with Calciferous and Sonata helped her forget it, the truth was Ophie wasn't meant to be on Earth. Ophelia was supposed to be up there in Heaven, serving as an Angel Knight with her brother. "Six months.." Six months until the next Baron Exams, six months until she had her chance to take Baron King Messiah's head to fulfill Celeste's revenge once and for all. Would that bring a smile to her face? Would that restore the beautiful smile only Queen Celeste was capable of making? Was such a thing possible now that Kitra was gone? She sighed a mournful sigh, stretching her wings to enjoy the full breadth of the wind.

As the train passed under a tunnel Ophie climbed back into the bathroom and turned off her invisibility only to see Calciferous in the bathroom looking confused. "I was looking for you. Where did you go?" He asked with a frown. "I didn't even hear you flush the toilet! Let me guess, did you piss out the window? Wait, can girls even do that?" Calciferous talked himself into a confused spiral so Ophie decided to ignore him and return to the cabin. Only two hours left, it was already afternoon now. "You sere gone for like five hours, Ophie, that was quite the bathroom break!" Calciferous snorted, tapping her shoulder. Ophie reflexively slashed him across the palm, shaking, eyes widening in surprise.

They moved to sit by the windows, to watch the country hills roll past them. Alice was on Sonata's lap, falling asleep while the demons spoke of things that did not concern her. "I'm gonna go check on Ophie, she's been in there a while." Calciferous was clearly concerned as he went to knock on the bathroom door, only for there to be no answer. Alice had drifted off, her head snapping up when the bathroom door slammed against the opposite wall, Ophie standing in the doorway. Her eyes widened as Cal reached out to touch her, only for Ophie to slash him across the palm. She breathed in sharply, watching with startled eyes as blood dripped from Calciferous's palm, hitting the carpet. Why did Ophie do that? Why had she attacked Cal? Alice looked up at Sonata, not understanding.

Baron Pierce rose, "Ophie, is there something you'd like to share with us?" Baron Pierce asked patiently, he retrieved a bandage from the First Aid box and began to wrap Calciferous's hand, his motions gentle. "Why don't you have a seat Cal, while I speak with Ophie in private?" He led her outside of the train car and into the hall, where it was silent. Soon, a human would be coming around to offer hot towels and snacks before they ultimately disembarked from the train. "It has come to my attention, that your recent actions have been... strange. You seem distant, as though you're rushing through everything. Is there something I should be made aware of?" Did Ophie have someone following her? Was there a reason she was so eager to become a Baroness?

Alice in the meanwhile, was being egged on by Cal and Sonata to try and read from the list of letters on her own. She fumbled through most of it, getting to the end by the skin of her teeth. She was bored of practicing letters, she wanted to do something fun! "Here Alice, why don't you take this paper and this pen and show us what you're thinking?" Cal handed them both to her, Alice looking at the paper in question. Her mind was blank, she barely thought about anything. Still, she connected pen to paper, drawing slowly, her tongue sticking out of the side of her mouth cutely. She looked up at Cal and Sonata, then back down at her paper, holding it out to them.

Alice was not much of an artist, but it was easy to tell what she was thinking. "It's a cat," Cal laughed as he looked at it. Alice nodded, making a scary face. "Op...Oph-i-e..." she made the face again. "Ophie told you it's a monster?" Sonata was able to translate easily. Alice nodded, looking between them. "It's not a monster, don't worry." Sonata pat her head reassuringly. "It won't hurt you," Cal shook his head with a sigh, crossing his arms at Sonata's naivity. "Oh, but it might! Cat's are very tempermental, give them too many belly rubs and they might attack!" He grinned, "but don't worry, we won't let anything hurt our Alice!"
