He can do basic spells involving ice, or freeze small amounts of water, but nothing too extensive. For anything else, he keeps more powerful mages in his guard at all times.

Appearance[b]

Richard is a very imposing man. It has been said that his mere appearance represents the strength and ferocity of the north. While rumors of being a giant are untrue, he is quite large. Relatively speaking, he does tower over most people at 6ā€™4ā€. Underneath the thick furs that make up his clothing, he does appear to be giant-like in thickness as well. While his strength is massive, he isnā€™t as young as he once was. Over the years traces of fat have begun to grow his waistline, but not unattractively so. As is true for many of the north, he is quite hairy. Richardā€™s beard long, falling almost down to his chest, and is the same dark brown as his head hair, which has also not been cut in years. In both, grey hairs have appeared, giving him an elderly look. The white eyes of the royal family further cement his status as king.

[b]Personality

Richard has three separate personalities, or at least three which he recognizes: The Ruler, the Soldier, and the Father.

Ruler:
This is what the public seas him as, and is therefore the most important of his three personalities. It is this personality that sits in front of his people in court, that makes decisions, that rules his people. He tries to employ a sense of seriousness, but not overly so. Desiring to have the love of his people, he feels to have found that fine line that allows his people to love him without losing respect for him either. It is in this that he is also known as being just. He does not suffer fools, and even the noble know that their nobility and status will not keep them above the law.

Soldier:
Part of the northern culture is that the ruler is also the General of the army by rights. Of course, many rulers in the past have given this authority to another person for various reasons, but not Richard. The soldier in him desires for war, holds no mercy for the enemy, and loves his men more than anything. Despite his important, Richard would never place his men into danger that he would not go into himself.

Father:
This is the loneliest of his personalities. His only son, Lakard, found magic to be a passion. Richard supports his son, but is unable to connect. While only twelve, the boy is leaps and bounds ahead of the simple magic his father knows. They are almost opposites. His son isnā€™t bulking up, but becoming increasingly powerful in magic. Richard is attempting to do his best to teach his son about the importance of leadership, so that by the time his son is old enough to he can begin to have leadership positions around the kingdom, to prepare him to take over the throne of Everlast one day.

In all these personalities, Richard is a man of honor, a contemplative man who enjoys art and literature and philosophy, totally debunking the stereotypical barbarous northerner. Behind his eyes is a vast intelligence, that you wouldn't expect when you first meet him.

History

Richard was never supposed to be the Lord of Everlast. He was the youngest male of his family, with three older brothers, and was only older than his lone sister. As the youngest, he spent much of his time having to prove himself to his older siblings. He took to warfare young, and learned to fight as soon as he was old enough to wield weaponry. Unlike his brothers though, Richard found himself enjoying culture, such as theater and literature, and would often take his younger sister with him to plays and music. He even learned to play various instruments himself, being quoted as saying that ā€œthough you take a manā€™s life, you can never rob him of his lyrics or notes.ā€ It was at one of these plays that he met the woman who would become his wife. Being the youngest child, the King and Queen saw no reason to restrict him to an arranged marriage, and therefore allowed Richard to marry an actress.

As time moved on, his brothers were given positions of power as hey became of age. Unlike them though, Richard joined the army. With no desire to rule, he bowed out of any form of royal position and instead joined the army, starting at the bottom. While he isnā€™t naĆÆve enough to say his royalty had nothing to do with it, his quick rise in the army attested to his leadership and tactical ability. His military career also saved his life.

While out on campaign against the mountain giants, a plague struck the capitol city. Luckily the city was able to quarantine the disease, but the population within dropped by over a third. The royal family was not spared. His mother, father, and two of his older brothers all fell to the disease. The last remaining brother, although he survived, did not do so sound of mind. While he left the capitol an officer in the army, he returned its Lord. The plague only lasted half a year, and once it was safe Richard rode in and quickly began to set things straight. Mourning was postponed until the city had been cleaned, and afterwards hygiene reforms turned the health of Everlast around.

It was only then that the kingdom was allowed to mourn for its fallen king, and once the period of morning was over Richard had the crowning ceremony. At seventeen he was declared Lord of Everlast. He would later continue his campaign against the giants, an ongoing struggle where peace can never officially be proclaimed. While away at war, his wife died during childbirth, although his son lived on. After so many years of marriage, Richard could not conceive of remarrying. He gave his heart away already, and did not see the possibility of doing so again.

With this new conflict arising, Richard can see the importance of a future decision. It is this reason why he wishes to speak with the prince of Ferramore. Having sworn allegiance to the Ferramore family, the prince is technically his liege lord. If the prince failed to impress though, Richardā€™s duty is to his people. If the Queenā€™s proposition turns out better, Richard knows heā€™d be tempted to take it.

So begins...

The wicked queen sat as her black wood vanity, staring at herself, she hadnā€™t aged in years, she was entering her 30s, but she looked ten years younger. Her pail skin was flawless and her forest green eyes popped against her fiery red hair, the same hair her fifteen year old daughter shared with her, she was practically a spitting image of the queen and she was really the only thing Trista actually felt love for, not quite sure if that is what you would even call it though. One of her maids brushed her hair softly, cautiously knowing one wrong move could get her killed. The queen was ruthless wasnā€™t exactly one for giving second chances. She applied bright red lipstick to her pale lips as she got ready for the day. Everything about her posture and attitude was utterly fighting, her mood could change within seconds.

The queen cleared her throat a bit ā€œGo! Fetch my daughter.ā€ She ordered in a smooth, yet dark tone. The maid nodded softly before heading out of the room.

Trista pulled a small clear vile out of one of the drawers of her vanity, inside the vile a blue liquid. She poured the liquid from the vile into her hand slowly as she spoke ā€œVenenum tuum bonum regina, cruentatur cor tuum, comminuet ossa, moriuntur sine paceā€ she had been poisoning the queen for weeks now repeating the same spell every morning, the queen would be dead any day now, she had been getting reports, the queens condition was worsening. She blew on the liquid causing it to disappear.

ā€œTheresa.ā€ She called to her young captive as she stood up she smiled to the girl as she came into her room. ā€œPlease, my dress.ā€ She stated, her black dress having not been laced up. She waited for the slave to lace her dress.

ā€œMother?ā€ Bonnie, said softly as she entered the room cautiously knowing how her mother could be, she tried her very best to be nicer to the slaves then her mother was. ā€œYou called for me?ā€ she continued keeping her soft tone.

ā€œCome to me my dear.ā€ She said putting her hand out. ā€œTheresa will take you to be fitted for a new dress today, you need to look descent when we meet with Richard and his son, when we see them, we will be going to visit them in a few days.ā€ Her husband had always done business with the Everlast nation and of course she had to keep it up.

ā€œOf course mother.ā€ She said softly
ā€œIf you plan on impressing that son of his, you need to wear something a little less dreadful.ā€ She said in a harsh tone. She knew her daughter had a small crush on Richards son and she purposely brought it up on several occasions.

She turned to Theresa ā€œIf anything happens to my daughter, if she comes back with on little scratch, Iā€™ll drain you of your blood and have a nice whine with it.ā€ She smirked darkly, glaring at the young girl. She had quite a powerful hold over her kingdom, everyone in Everlast was terrified by bother her power and strength, not to mention, men seem to fall for her beauty.

ā€œTheresa, Iā€™m sorry you have to stay here, Iā€™m sorry about my mother.ā€ Bonnie said softly to the servant helping her. She didnā€™t agree with the way her mom acted and the things she did, she knew full well her mother had killed her father and she hated her for that. The Queen had made false claims about her father, therefore she wasnā€™t executed, the worst part everyone was too scared of her to argue. ā€œIf I was Queen, you be free.ā€ She said in an apologetic tone of voice. She gave Theresa a friendly smile before looking to a light blue dress ā€œThat one.ā€ She said softly.

The Queen watched her daughter through the mirror, she was not at all happy, but she tried to calm her emotions, Richard would be here soon and she couldnā€™t risk her nation in stress of frightened before he came. The party had been sent out to meet with the Everlast King. The Queen was a very persuasive woman, she could do business deals better than most for a woman anyways. She took a deep breath as the image of her daughter and the servant faded on the mirror to her own reflection. It look pale, flawless, and as if it had never aged. She stood up as she headed out of her room, she would go to her thrown where she would wait for her daughter to join and the two would wait for their guests.

Trista sat in the large black thrown, she stood up as her daughter entered the room. She put her hand out a signal for her daughter to come to her. She gently took her daughter by the chin turning her face back and forth examining it.

ā€œYour skin, itā€™s fair, beautiful. Keep it that way my dear, if you want to be the queen someday, youā€™ll have to stay beautiful.ā€ She said in an unloving tone of voice. ā€œRemember my dear, I hear everything, Itā€™s not smart on your part to take sides with a slave.ā€ She sighed

ā€œMother Iā€¦ā€ Bonnie was cut off by her mother

ā€œYou were what Belladonna?ā€ she said harshly using her full name, Bonnie is what the kingdom called her for short.

Bonnie swallowed hard knowing her mother was upset, she didnā€™t want to make matter worse ā€œIā€™m sorry.ā€ She said softly sitting down next to her motherā€™s thrown.

The greeting Party Meet the ruler of Everlast at the nation line, the ride was still another hour or so, but the greeting party made it through to the castle without interruption.
