❊|History|❊
The in the time of the first dragon-rider, Melgrove was in crisis. The ports up and down the coast were constantly being targeted by foreign pirates, so much so that the people lived in terror, unable to thrive. A young warrior for hire lost his wife in one of the coastal raids, leaving him alone with a young daughter. He told everyone who would listen the answer to their problems. They needed to unite under one banner, to stand as one force against the plague of violence. But he was low-born and powerless. He was scorned for his meddling. Eventually, he heard of the monster Huitzilopochtli. Along the coast, the rumor was that the monster would grant one wish of any human who dared to look it in the eye. So the warrior set out, with his young daughter strapped to his back, seeking to look the creature in the eye. The pair traveled for almost two months, finally making their way to the RyRidge Mountains, but when the warrior finally stood before Huitzilopochtli and looked him in the eyes, Huitzilopochtli would not look back. Instead, the monster had fixed his piercing gaze onto the little girl clinging to his neck, watching the monster with wide, terrified eyes. A shudder ran through her and she spoke, her small voice trembling with a foreign power. The monster told her to go away, to continue her life, and to return when she was called. The warrior clutched his daughter close and left quickly.
Almost two years later, a roar echoed across the land, and the girl, now ten, told her father that they must go. The warrior complied and took the girl once more before the beast, where she and four other humans gathered to drink of the monster's blood, receive a bond with another monster, and be given a slice of the world to rule over. The girl was at once bonded with the dragon that presented itself to her, naming it Fiir. Both were young. Fiir, newly hatched was no bigger than a small horse. So, the warrior took them both into the marshes to train and grow and prepare for the day that they would unite Melgrove.
By any means necessary.
The reign of the Child-Queen began seven years later, when the girl was seventeen and lasted almost a century. And when the girl died, the dragon remained, patiently scouring Melgrove for his new mistress, made young again.
