An 18 year old Recorder aboard the Pioneer I. The child of Imperial diplomats, she's traveled the world over at her young age and is fluent in several languages. She loves writing above all, and it's the little things that bring her most joy.
Nuri is usually quiet and withdrawn, at least until she gets to know someone. She's a daydreamer, so even when she's not writing, she tends to be creating in her head or observing and taking mental notes. She's generally pretty amicable, but if you piss her off...well, just don't piss her off.
Like most writers, Nuri has a plethora of writing equipment and utensils: a loaded PC/printer, a palm-sized reader, several notebooks in varying sizes (both lined and unlined), packs of printer paper, two leather-bound journals, two cloth-bound journals, various pens/pencils, crayons, colored pencils, pastels, and charcoal. She also has a high-end paint set, a set of wooden models, various other art supplies, a History of the World encyclopedia, several other reading books, and her professional portfolio. She also has a small keep-sake box with momentos from her family and friends, as well as a box of generic personal items like make-up and hair supplies.
Nuri was born into the Sabine family, French nobility that has had major roles in the Empire since its inception. They are also major sponsors of the Pioneer Program. She is actually a great-grandniece of the Emperor on her mother's side, and she's related by either marriage or political ties (more binding than blood, in the Empire) to several world leaders, though it's not exactly a close family. Both of her parents have served as diplomats since before she was born.
Nuri and her younger brother, Henri, usually attended embassy schools, although sometimes during shorter missions, they were taught by private tutors. Nuri was trained in several dance styles, and Henri is already an accomplished equestrian at the age of fourteen. They dabbled in several other artistic endeavors, including music and art, although Nuri did much better at art than she did with music. She is fluent in French, Chinese, English, and German, and she knows a passable amount of Spanish, Italian, Dutch, and Greek.
Since birth, she has pretty much been trained to be a diplomat â or, possibly, a political leader. Her parents view space as yet another avenue for diplomacy and leadership, and they are incredibly proud that their daughter was chosen for the program, despite the fact that she'll be leaving them and their machinations behind.
That's not to say that Nuri has been completely under the thumbs of her parents her whole life. She gained some notoriety as a dancer and model once she reached puberty. She also had several articles published in trade journals and newspapers, and she secretly had a few science fiction stories published under the pen name of Elise DuBarde. She was the one who begged her parents to allow her to apply, and then she was pleased to find out that the program recruiters had been trying to hunt down Elise DuBarde for recruitment anyway.
