Sophie intended to become the best Runner in the Pioneer Program, but her plans are about to change...
More than anything, Sophie values her own confidence. People often perceive her as arrogant, but she takes criticism in stride and has a very independent philosophy: if she doesn't have faith in herself, who will? She socializes well in general, but she doesn't feel the need to make close friends. But she wasn't chosen for the Pioneer I because of her social skills; she was chosen for her drive and goal-oriented mindset.
Sophie brought no personal belongings or tools with her to the Pioneer I.
As France grew into an industrial power and eventually the French Empire, the gap between social classes grew, as well; the rich got richer, and the poor could eventually only find homes in rising abundance of slums. Sophie Delcambre was on the higher end, born to the Vice President of the corporation responsible for manufacturing "Electro-Bytes" (a chain of snacks criticized by progressives as the "food pollution" of the era). Sophie was born and raised in a city in Le Terrain du Rhin, the annexed French territory formerly known as Switzerland. Never did she have to face a black sky in the middle of the day or wear a gas mask just to go outside; where she lived, she was perfectly healthy and had everything she wanted.
Throughout her childhood, Sophie constantly engaged in sports. She played and football (European football), ran cross-country, and even took fencing. No matter what activity she joined, though, she was always determined to get better at it. She could visualize her goal and see the necessary path to reach it, and because of that, she always excelled in sports.
Because of her upbringing, though, she was always a little spoiled and got herself into trouble with the law a couple times. Finally, her mother was fed up with her and sent her to the six-month training camp for the Pioneer Program. This was meant to be only a temporary punishment for bad behavior, but Sophie turned out to be a good fit, and she was accepted to receive training as a Runner. At sixteen years of age, she left for a journey into space, but an unexpected mishap will change her entire future on the Pioneer I.
