Age || 36
Gender || Male
Faction || Transcendents
Role || Inspection Unit Captain
Personality ||
Captain Setoen is a staunchly devoted warrior who values strength - physical and mental - above all other attributes. If one is unable to perform their task, they're culled. He is a manipulator, preferring to set both political and war-time enemies against each other, and generally looks down upon those of lower stature or lesser creed. He believes most decisions are black or white - all or nothing, and you're either with the World of the Sky, or you're wrong.
He attempts to maintain a composed, steady air, as befits one of his position. He takes great pride in both his abilities, and the abilities and accomplishments of the skilled pilots underneath his command. He is a short-tempered man, prone to violent or irrational impulse when irritated, and he expects a degree of respect and even reverence from those under his command.
Appearance ||
The Captain is a tall, stickish mah with a swimmer's body shape, i.e, a larger torso, thinner waist, and long legs. He has visible bionic modules installed upon his spine, as well as severe scarring upon the small of his back. His skin is of a color comparable to a human Caucasian. His features are hawkish, with a faintly defined square jaw and squared hairline. His hair is a pale blonde, and cut short.
On duty, he typically wears his Officer's uniform, always tediously cleansed to be spotless and pristine. On the rare occasion he is piloting in a battle, he wears a heavy, navy-blue armored suit, a relic meant for older models that operated without environment control.
Machine Spec and Detail ||
Setoen commands the Trials of Winter, flagship of of the Inspection unit. It is a cruiser designed for infiltration and rapid deployment through use of a cloaking system and powerful engines. Like the Organum, it is able to traverse both space and in atmosphere, although it is slightly smaller than it's rival and boasts only four hangars, with two devoted to a squadron of mech pilots and two devoted for normal fighter craft. As the unit flagship, it has basic necessities - medical areas, engineering bays, and life support for extended excursions into either hostile or uncharted territory. It has a thousand crew members, and five hundred others for combat roles, like fighter or mech pilots, marines, etc.
It has three heavy antimatter cannons on the left and right sides, six smaller beam cannons mounted upon the front, and a small collection of anti-fighter missiles and turrets. However, the most frightening part of it's armament are the five mounted ship cutter blades, which - when shielded and facing an un-shielded ship, can cut through like butter, severing even larger ship in two with help from the powerful engines. In addition, the anti-gravity modules it uses to stay airborne in atmosphere can also be used to disrupt movements on an enemy ship, provided the Trials of Winter is close enough.
The Trials of Winter itself is not a heavily armored craft, and without it's considerable speed and impressive shielding, can be easily destroyed. That, combined with a somewhat lack of firepower compared to other ships its size makes the guerrilla tactics the Trial of Winter uses even more necessary. For this end, it has high-end jamming and communications equipment, able to hopefully silence an ambushed and outgunned ship or settlement before help can arrive.
Abilities outside the cockpit ||
Lilas, outside of being an incredibly competent mech and naval commander, is also skilled on the ground. While he is not the best shot with a rifle, he originally excelled with close confrontation, though his injury has since made it difficult to fight hand to hand, as his back is quite stiff and unyielding. He has some knowledge of piloting fighter craft, but will not typically use them unless forced.
He is mostly skilled with smaller, older mecha models, and will generally prefer to pilot them instead of newer or even stronger models.
He cuts a terrifying presence for both allies and enemies, and is known for snatching victory at any cost. While not an outwardly cruel man, he no longer flinches at some of the dirtier or less moral decisions someone in his position is often tasked to make, and is not afraid to sacrifice the few for what he sees as the greater good.
Captain Setoen was not always in command of naval vessels, nor was he a captain. Before tasked with disrupting the humans' expansion efforts, he was a lieutenant in charge of deniable, often dangerous operations, where he more than often had less than a dozen skilled warriors, meagre scout mechs and supplies, and was tasked with single-handedly turning the war effort to the Transcendent's favor. A naive and untested leader, he made many mistakes that cost the lives of those under his command, though through a combination of thinly-hidden obsession and an undeniable charisma, he always succeeded in destroying or killing his mark. He spent three years in the shadows before the front came to him, and where he finally distinguished himself.
He took command of a disorganized and ready-to-retreat battalion that had lost their commander and were effectively outgunned, outnumbered, and surrounded. Yet, Setoen did not order anyone to dig in their heels and defend. He told them to completely abandon their post. When the humans took control of the previous area, they struck, taking advantage of their eagerness to overextend, leaving them unprepared. Yet, even with this victory, he did not relent. He pushed forward without reinforcements, taking all they needed from the defeated ashes of the enemies they left behind, and burning the rest to utter ruin. They had managed to carve a single line miles into the front, knowing that the Transcendents were soon pulling out of that area anyway. They destroyed facilities, trapped ammunition and weapons, and made everywhere they set foot a living hell for the humans to retake, even after they had long left.
Lilas returned home, decorated and celebrated, though not whole. An explosion in his mech had severed his spine, leaving him unable to command and likely the entire reason his impromptu war group had to retreat in the first place. He was given promotions, medals, but he did not see the end of their war, and was sitting in a hospital the day both sides declared the cease-fire, much to his horror.
Three years later, he could walk, not run. Four, and he was once more in command, overseeing the new expansion efforts into new planets and systems, despite his difficulty moving. Five years later, he was shown the Trials of Winter and tasked with showing The World Beneath his signature havoc once more.
