Prime Minister of Revelation's Parliament (NPC)
The Prime Minister is known well for three things: his near-constant opposition of the Queen, his distaste for magi, and his thunderous presence on the legislative floor. The man has a booming baritone, and he is not afraid to use it to bully people of any persuasion. What he lacks in subtlety, he makes up for in a truly shrewd understanding of how to play to his strengths. If the MP is controlling you, you are going to be well aware, but likely unable to do anything about it. He enjoys the particular sensation having this sort of sway over people gives him, and he does not hesitate to remind enemy and ally alike who exactly is in charge.
The Queen, he once thought, would be an easy target, and for a while, he was not wrong. Though she never did break to his exercise of power, she did bend enough to undermine herself on more than one occasion. For the last ten or twelve years, it has been becoming increasingly difficult to press the monarch, though she seems to have changed little. One of Gilgamesh's main preoccupations is trying to find out why.
Much more important to him, though, is trying to rid the city of the magi. Believing that science has long since given an adequate understanding of magic, the deeply-religious minister would be more than happy to see all the natural practitioners of it disappear on a permanent basis. Why exactly his hatred is so great is something that nobody seems to understand, and the man himself gives only rare clues.
Gilgamesh is not above using wands; on the contrary, he seems rather fond of them. His extensive family fortune ensures that he is always supplied with impressive quantities of the finest technology available, and it is a safe bet that his office has quite a few stashed about as well, seeing as how he is an essentially paranoid soul.
David Gilgamesh was born to a family of aristocrats, but none of them ever achieved the level of prestige he would. The youngest of six brothers, it seemed that he was unlikely to inherit, but one of his siblings chose early on to go into science, another was found to have mage-talent and promptly disowned, and the other three simply disappeared, leaving the young David the sole remaining heir.
He invested wisely, turning his family fortune into the greatest in Revelation, more profitable even than the extent of Crown enterprises. At the same time, his political career skyrocketed, due to his persuasive speechmaking skills and his complete lack of any sort of moral reservations in the use of blackmail, bribery, and coercion. Anyone who opposed him too openly promptly found themselves disenfranchised or missing something important, like a family member. Though kidnapping is highly illegal in Revelation, so well did the victims keep their silence that Gilgamesh's methods became the same kind of secret as the Guild itself.
There was at one point a Crown investigation into the matter, but it seemed that none were willing to testify against him, and it went nowhere. Even so, he has failed to acquire complete control of Parliament, due to the stubborn natures of more than a few lords with enough power and guts to defend their own, as well as an increasing press from the Crown itself. He seems to have stopped pushing the issue quite as much as he used to, however, but it would be a mistake to assume this means he has ended his bid for power. No, the wise would do better to fear for what the change in tack might herald for the future.
Gilgamesh was not the one who directly ordered the death of Adam Goldwater (that dubious honor goes to Azazel), but he is secretly manipulating the Liberation Movement, since the assassins and soldiers they employ are actually loyal to him and under his orders. He was, however, the one who ordered the attack on the people who discovered the truth, and when that failed, he came away with the knowledge that the Princess was more than she seemed.
Since then, he tried and failed to prevent her from winning a seat in Parliament, though his majority faction is most certainly still in charge. He hates Loki and Lord Taylor both with vehemence.
