"Knives and guns are just attachments of my hands- not that I want them to, but because I have to."
Joel Carter Kingsley
|Nicknames|
Mask | The Black Mask | Death | Number 13
These names were not made for Joel by friends- they were created by his enemies. The first, second and fourth came to be due to the black mask Joel tends to wear while committing his deeds and the last refers to a visible tattoo on the left-side of his back. âDeathâ, obviously, is a reference the state his victims are in when he is done with them.
These names are enough to strike fear in the hearts of many.
âBut, well, for the kids, I am plain old Uncle Joel.â

The Killer|| The formal assassin of the Milano Family
⢠Cracking neck|| This is a habitual thing for Joel. From time to time, he cracks his neck whenever and wherever. Even when cooking, while watching a movie, changing, Joel might just crack his neck. The only time he refrains from doing so is when heâs stalking his target.
⢠Bear Hugs|| Itâs rare to see Joel hug someone, but when he does, he goes full out. Itâs not just a general pat against the back- that he does for other occasions- but a direct harsh and tight hug. He knows people donât like his hugs- and itâs exactly why he does it. Joel himself doesnât appreciate hugs much, either.
⢠Checking his jacket|| Well, actually, whenever Joel does this, he isn't checking his jacket itself- but rather the line of daggers and guns that he keeps within his jacket. Obviously, not only does he have to make sure that they're all ready for use, but also just to make sure that they're all there. Not that he really cares if his guns go missing- he has a large basement filled with weapons. Except for one gun, that is- the one he used to make his first kill after he became the family assassin.
|Skills|
1. Killing|| Itâs no wonder that Joel is particularly good at finding new ways to murder people. Twisting their necks? Boring. Shooting a bullet straight through their head? Boring- unless done from far away. Joel views his murders as a sort of art, and his ever-changing style makes it hard to trace any murder back to him, anyways. He has never failed a mission- he always makes sure that if he blunders, the target will die two times worse.
2. Acting|| Joel would never allow any of the children to know exactly who he is- especially the fact that he murders people for a living within the Milano family. But thatâs not the extent to the use of his acting abilities- he also sometimes graces the big stage for extra-cash if he ever feels tight or for pure fun. He still remembers the day when he would give each of the children advice for their plays back at school.
3. Handicrafts|| As busy as the boss, bossâs wife, and second-in-command, Joel constantly made sure to keep an eye on the three Milano children. This went on from when they were born, all the way until now- and this included dabbling in their lives, going to parent-teacher conferences, and helping them with their projects. His carpentry skills, ceramic skills and origami skills came almost entirely from this period of time- though his knack with knives and his fast reflexes helped a lot as well- and have persisted even till now. Joel particularly likes carpentry, and when he isnât carving someone with his knives, heâs putting his knives and other tools to use on a new piece of work.
4. Baking|| Obviously, this âhobbyâ first developed when Joelâs wife and child died, forcing Joel to learn everything he hadnât known before and survive on his own. What Joel hadnât guessed was that he himself grew interested in the art of cutlery, baking and cuisine. He now owns a fully equipped kitchen with the best knives and baking equipment he could get his hands on. Whenever Joelâs on his missions, he tends to bring a Ziploc bag of his own goodies to eat. He also tends to bring another spare just for the children as well.

|Secrets|
⢠The deaths of his wife and son|| The two most important figures within his life- killed by his own hands. This incident occurred when Joel had been placed under an extremely dangerous mission to kill a rivaling familyâs boss. What Joel never could have thought was that his wife and son would be taken as hostages to ensure that Joel would become a mole within the Milano family. He had refused- only to have pictures of his wife and sonâs decapitated bodies sent to his house. Two weeks afterwards, their bodies arrived in a bag at his door as well.
⢠Depression|| No veteran leaves the battle field without mental or physical scars. Joel feels lucky enough already that he escaped with but minor PTSD and barely any scars or wounds. He did, however, develop heavy depression, especially after the deaths of his wife and son. He now lives on medication and visits his therapist once every two weeks or so, intent on trying to put his life back on the right track- or so he hopes.
|Fears|
⢠FC:Kerry Washington getting hurt|| She is now his life- his main support as he battles through life. Only she knows that his jolly attitude is far from real even though he keeps her at a armâs length, just like he does with everyone else.
⢠The children near harm|| Though they might not think the same way, Joel tends to think of the three children as his own children. He taught them how to fight when they asked him, and he helped fill in whenever the Boss and his wife couldnât be with their children. He sometimes equates himself to âUncle Irohâ from âAvatar: The Last Airbenderâ whenever he thinks of his relationship with his nephew and nieces.
⢠Explosions / Thunder / the sound of bombs|| Joel can stand the sound of guns, he can stand gunfire and the sight of bombs, whatnot. What he cannot stand is the sound of bombs exploding- they cause uncontrollable shivers to race down his spine, as he tends to start hitting things or grabbing anything he can use to protect himself within his vicinity.

With almost everyone- almost-, Joel is an extremely fun character to be around. Not only does he has a bright personality, but his bad jokes and laughter can be heard everywhere he goes. Barely anything seems to be able to bring Joel down, and rarely is his shout heard within the Milano house. Of course, he can definitely calm down from his uproarious personality and be serious, but he really doesnât prefer to do so for different reasons that he keeps to himself. Obviously, this doesnât mean that Joel goes around the place skipping and singing songs. Rather, this is just a general distraction from his thoughts- until he needs them, that is. Otherwise, in an attempt to shake off his depression and make the world look brighter, Joel âforcesâ himself to act in this way- and he has for the past decade.
However, there is an obvious barricade Joel places between himself and others. At times, the laughter and jokes seem to strain a bit, and almost rarely does anything serious- and about himself- ever slip through his lips. He tries to keep everything that has happened in the past, ranging from his time in the SEALs to his missions, a secret from everyone. This lack of disclosure gives Joel a sense of mystery that he himself embraces, as he does not wish for anyone else to understand his woes. Inside, Joel is everything including highly contradictory, as he constantly gets into fights with himself about what is right or wrong- or if he should continue the current lifestyle heâs currently leading.
Joel knows that he doesnât have any other choice, though. His position as the assassin of the Milano family has hardened him even more so than his time within the SEALs, reaffirming his general distaste and dislike towards taking the lives of others. Not only this, Joel makes sure to keep his depression constantly hidden from others who know him. However, the sadness tends to sometimes seep out, especially around people he holds close to heart- the children and FC: Kerry Washington.
Born in 1969, Joel arrived on Earth in the loving hands of Erin and Harold Kingsley, both whom had just moved to Boston from the United Kingdom. At first, the two had thought that America- the New World- held promises that would far surpass what they had back at London. They had been tired of their tiny flat, and had wished for a better life for their son. But Boston was not the right city for their ânew lifeâ. What Joel remembers the most from his time spent in Boston was the continuous strife and tension between the African American community and the White community. Schools were segregated; children made fun of one another due to their racial and skin differences. But no matter- other than the race riots that erupted around America during the 1960-70s, Joel led an extremely peaceful life, shielded by the caring hands of his mother and father.
From primary to secondary school, Joel continuously aced with his studies. But a constant nagging had followed him throughout his childhood years. People would call him a âfake Americanâ and a British failure, amongst the likes, picking fun at his European roots. This roused a screwed sense of patriotism within Joel- and a need to prove himself to the people who had made fun of him back then. Obviously, the one option that stood out the most within Joelâs eyes at the time had been joining the army. He worked hard and entered applied to enter the army, attending military academy to boost his chances. Joel felt as if this was the one main dream that he wished to achieve, though he faced opposition everywhere, from his family to his teachers to his friends. Between Harvard and the Army, Joel chose the second option, claiming that it was a way to fight for his own 'freedom' and prove that he was not 'British' in any way. Joel, much to his delight, was placed within the Navy SEALs, an executive force even amongst the army forces.
During his time period with the SEALs, Joel participated in the Invasion of Grenada, Operation Prime Chance, Somalia, and Afghanistan. However, strenuous battle and a twenty-year long serving period had tired Joel down. No matter how many medals he earned, by then, he only craved for the warm hospitality of home. He was finally sent home to his family- his wife and young son- and had led a happy life until reality hit him extremely hard. The nightmares started; depression started to seep into his mind as he remembered the deaths of many of his brothers at battle; the memories of shouts, explosions and gunfire rang within his ears everyday and night, even as he hugged his wife close to himself. Nothing helped. What made matters worse; Joel could not find a job. Though he had an excellent university and high school background, he had no job experience at all.
The only job he managed to find was with the Milano house as their âguardâ. But from there, Joel once again quickly rose through their ranks to become one of the two assassins hired by the Milano family. The other assassin was shortly killed in a large butchered mission, and Joel was then the only one left. He was sent to cover up the mission the deceased assassin had ruined- and he did, to the cost of his wife and sonâs lives.
âEveryday was like a living Hell. Their voices haunted me along with the screams and shouts of those I had shot at. I couldnât live with myself anymore- but I had to. I couldnât pull the trigger.â
He gave himself five days to either take his life or move along with life. Joel decided on the latter. Till this day, however, he makes sure that no one gets too close to his heart. Even with FC:Kerry Washington, Joel makes sure that the woman doesnât get too close with him, in fear of any danger coming upon her life as well. Also, after that one blunder, Joel made sure to never make a mistake again during missions. Not only did his experience within the army shape him, but the deaths of his wife and son as well. Some say they find it hard to believe that Joel can still smile so freely and act like a child at times- but this is all a facade. It is not true. But Joel has no other choice.
âIt was one blunder too much.â
