"Perhaps I could interest you in some of my fine goods."
Werther Dietrich is a criminal and knows it. Is he pure evil? No one knows but him. He likes to plan things to keep a tight ship, as they say. He holds very few dear to him. Only his close inner circle knows a lot about him, and most of them don't know much compared to his closest companion, who he is almost never without. He welcomes help when it is needed but has a desire to feel in control of his life and business. He does not strive for complete control or destruction. To what reaches his aspirations went could not be known by his actions or words. He enjoys quiet and solitude, though rarely really by himself.

A large amount of smuggled goods are under his control. He cannot just get anything and most items are promised to someone before he ever has them, so he does not have unlimited supplies. But he trades the smuggled goods for currency and favors, almost always having someone in power owing him whether or not they know it. This also leaves him with a handsome amount of money, though it is often spent financing more endeavors or paying bribes, spies and other miscellaneous expenses that one could expect a man like him to have. Though, rarely, something really special comes across his table that is worth more to him than the money or favors he could get selling it to someone else and he makes sure to set that aside for himself.
Several safe houses which consist of three small homes in Ni'kali, a mansion and a farm in Vyyrica and a small keep hidden in some mountains in Azurei as well as a number of small, inconspicuous businesses he owns that may bleed money but give him and his business partners places to hide when they must. The mansion is dilapidated and looks like it should be condemned. Most of its windows broken and nothing in it working, it is infested with any number of animals and fungi. There are also rumors around it that it is haunted, making it a horrible place to live but great to hide in. The keep in Azurei was discovered by accident. It was abandoned years before when a group of men working for Werther stumbled upon it while trying to find a safe route through the mountains. It offers itself nicely as a safe place to store items that need to sit before delivery. It has also been prepared in case of an emergency to be a last resort defense, though the number of people to properly defend it is not a reasonable achievement for him and if push comes to shove, it would not lend itself as much protection against a large enough force.
Werther Dietrich is from Ni'kali by birth. As a child his parents feared for him as he showed signs of "being touched" by a dark force. The other children feared him, the neighbors wanted nothing to do with him or his family and it got to the point where they had to move far enough away that no one would know them. They moved to the coast and hid Werther away. As he grew, his parents worked to suppress the little ability he had. After he grew and they passed, he worked on the docks for a while. His first introduction to crime was when he thought he heard someone talking about something they'd stolen and hidden away. He confronted the thief about it, who denied ever saying such a thing. They argued until Werther went to the place and took the stolen object. The thief who stole it accused him of following them and tried to kill him. After a struggle, the thief was stabbed with their own knife and Werther fled.
When he reached a new town, all he had of worth was the stolen object. He couldn't just sell it to any shopkeeper, he would be arrested. Eventually, he approached someone he heard rumors about and sold the object to him. From that time on, for a long while, he worked for the crime boss, quickly becoming an important member of the organization. He learned the ins and outs of smuggling and for a while was one of the personal apprentices of the crime boss before he died. A fight over who should take the organization was sure to break and Werther, while not bad in a fight, wasn't willing to start a war and left. He took a few trusted workers with him as well as enough money to start a business of him own. Soon, internal fighting weakened the old organization to the point of near destruction while Werther's new enterprise took off and filled the void the old one left behind. Using the knowledge of his old boss, the trust of his few best and his special, though still weak, abilities he became the primary import/export business for "questionable" goods in and out of Ni'kali. This, though, is only part of the story, as since he found he was self sufficient with his business, he has branched out and worked to get his hands into many other nasty dealings around the world.
