I let out a rather large sigh as I entered through the front door. I'd been in the body shop until about eight thirty, I don't know when I got to the bar or what time it even is now. If I had to bet, I'd put some money on eleven thirty-ish. Doesn't matter anyway, Meghan came over and made Alex dinner. So all I have to do is make it to my bedroom without falling over. I started walking through the living room and tossed my keys onto the coffee table, they made a loud clatter, but I could care less about that.

I flipped on the bedroom light and looked in the tall mirror that sat on top of my dresser.

"You're shitting me." I moaned as I noticed a huge stain of epoxy primer on the shoulder of my blue car hart. "Well, nothing I can do about it now."I unbuttoned the top two buttons then pulled it over my head. I stood and stared into the mirror for a few moments, I couldn't help but think that I look like a stereotypical bad guy from an action flick. I can count four scars on my chest and stomach. There's also the one on my face, but I didn't include that one. There's a few more on my back, but I don't know how many.

I walked over to my bed and lay down.

I've already decided that I'm heading to Gainsboro tomorrow. But what is it that I'm gonna find? That there really is some 'Slender Man' who hides in the woods and takes people who never get found? I'm not sure, but I have a bad feeling that I'm not gonna like what I find. I thought before I passed out.

My bike screeched to a halt. I checked my watch for the time; it was eight- thirty in the morning by the time I reached Gainsboro Hills. The town was quiet and peaceful, well, as far as I could tell. But I don't have the greatest track record when it comes to observation. Anyway, I pulled into some cheap motel, there were no vacancies but that didn't matter too much. I only pulled in so I could look up the number of the chick who was running this 'investigation' or whatever you want to call it. I put up the kick- stand and hopped off. I did a couple stretches, it's been about two hours of solid riding and it felt good to stand up.

"My freakin' ass is asleep." I moaned as I pushed my pelvis out-ward and cracked my back. I stood up straight and walked over to my satchel sitting on the back of the bike. "Alright, time to get down to business." I said as I looked through my phone for this girl's number. "Alexandra Valliere." I mouthed out as I found her number.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

I started whistling out a tune, holding the phone to my ear, waiting for her to pick up.

"Yo, I heard you're looking for people to help with your investigation." I said when she finally picked up, "I was thinking I could help you out." I grinned, "Ya' know, if that's okay with you."

I pulled up to the Zoric house in a blue Ford Fusion I rented. Even if I'm meeting this Alexandra person tomorrow, it doesn't mean I can't do any investigating of my own. I looked out into the yard and noticed when I pulled into the driveway that the front door was open a tiny bit, then pulled closed. What? Someone must be here. Now that I think about it, there is a car parked here. Well, this is a bit strange, but I might have a suspect. I got out of the car and straitened the black tie to the cheap suit I was wearing. With this scar and shaved head I don't look much like an FBI agent, but hell, they won't question a badge. I opened the front and shined my flashlight inside.

"This is the FBI, I know you're in here." I said as officially as I could, "Come out here with your hands up."

What the fuck? I thought, Do I really not look like I could be a cop? I pulled a badge out from my pocket and flipped it open. The badge read Roy Miller, Federal Bureau of Investigation. I bought this thing off a guy I work with. I'm guessing he stole it, but I never asked. He's good with forgeries so it was easy for him to add my picture and ta-da! I have a genuine FBI badge, well unless a cop registers the number. Then I'm fucked.

"You want to say that again, punk?" I said, angry, mostly because my plan wasn't working as well as I'd hoped. "Now, let's start with you telling me your name." I said, still pointing the beam of the flashlight in his face.

Slender? I thought, then I noticed he had one of his hands hidden behind his back. Shit, does this kid have a gun?I might be dressed like FBI, but I don't have any guns. I looked him up and down, trying to figure out if I could take him in a fight. I've got a couple inches on him, and I do have a combat knife in my boot. But if he really does have a gun none of that will matter.

"I think you've gone loony if you think I'm the slender man." I gave a crooked smile, and switched the flashlight off. "I'm here to investigating disappearances around this town. Now what are you doing? Looking for some urban legend?"

I turned my head a little to look at the chair Cole kicked. And I gave a loud scoff. "Your're kidding, right?." I then looked over at the teenage boy. "You're fucking kidding, right? You want me to sit down and tell you my story like we're in group, fucking, therapy? After you put a goddamn knife to my throat?! Well, fuck you, asshole!" I yell, putting up my middle finger along with the 'fuck you, asshole'.

I turn around and walk toward my rental. "And you gotta work on your insults kid," I say, not looking back at him. "Calling me 'grandpa' when I'm in my twenties isn't exactly clever." I pop the door open, then glance over at the house.

"You can tell your girlfriend to come out, too." I said, then sit down, the door to the car still wide open.

*Beep*Beep*Beep*

I hear a ringing in my pocket, must be my cell phone. I answer with a 'Who's this?'

"It's me, bro!" I hear a familiar giggly voice.

"Oh, hey, Alex." I said, my normally ruff voice was replaced with a happier tone. "Why'd you call? Is something wrong?"

"No, I just wanted to call you before I went to bed."

I looked at my watch to check the time, "It's a little early isn't it?"

"I know! But, Megan said that I should get ready for bed!" The little boy sounded furious.

"Well, she is kind of a bitch." I mumbled.

"Yeah, a bitch!" He repeated.

"Hey! Don't say something like that!" I yelled, "You're too young to say that!"

"Why? What does it mean?"

"Ugh... I'll tell you when you're older..." I mumbled again. "Just don't say that in front of Megan!"

"What do I get?" He asked.

"You extortionist!" I said, "Fine, what do you want?"

"I want Mommy to come home." He asked in the saddest voice I'd ever heard.

My breathing stopped for a second. I'd remembered why I was here. If I want to find our mother I'm going to have to work with others, even if that means working with assholes like that guy. "Yeah," I finally said, "I'll bring her home. Goodnight, buddy." I hung up and got out of my car and stared over at Cole.

"You wouldn't happen to be here at Alexandria's request would you, Cole?" I asked, the usual gruffness back in my voice.
