"Ah, the prodigal sons return." spoke the first shadow, his eyes a threatening grey, and his cloak the inky blue of the midnight sky.
"Milord. We bring news." Said the second shadow, his cloak as black as coal, and his eyes a stormy blue.
"And what news is this?" Spoke the first shadow, taking steps towards them, through the grass of the starlit field where darkness gathered.
"The runes are in place... Just as you requested." Spoke the third shadow, his cloak a velvet red, and his eyes ripe with madness.
"And the sleeping wretch? What of her?" Spoke the first shadow.
"We... were not able to locate her." said the second shadow, his confidence faltering. "Though, we suspect she lies below the grounds. T'would seem it is neigh impossible to accomplish this plan, milord. "
The first shadow twisted his gray face into a look of rage, and took a menacing step forward, but a fourth shadow appeared, Her silk hair the color of fresh fallen snow, her small figure betraying her true strength. She laid a calming hand on his shoulder.
"You must gain access," She said to the two. "And you must silence her breath before we show our faces."
"They're right. That may prove impossible," Said the Fifth shadow, his framed ice-blue eyes cold and calculating. "Sealing her may have to suffice."
"Then see that it is done." said the first shadow to the sons, "And with haste."
The sons nodded, bowed, and vanished to fulfill their duty, as did the fifth shadow, until only the first and third were left.
"Soon, my love," Spoke the third to the first. "We will show ourselves, and the darkness will silence the children of the false god."
"Soon." Agreed the first, as they vanished from the starlit field where darkness gathered.
"
Ahh, the wooden smell of the dorms. You never really get used to that." Lonan thought, as he entered the Anzu dormitory for the first time in almost a month, his duffle bag! emblazoned with the dorm's colours of gold and brown, tightly in hand. It had been the student's coveted October break, and most of the students had travelled home for the month, with only a few students and staff staying behind. It was now near the end of the month, with the Festival of the Dead soon approaching. During the break, Lon had gone back to his home of Icarus city, the capital city of Central Soria to visit his family, and catch up with some friends from school. It was relaxing, and getting to see his family again was nice, but near the end of the break, he was itching to return to the Academy.
Setting his duffel bag on the floor, he looked around the lobby, greeting some of the students that he knew, and welcoming any new Anzu students that had been sent to the school over the break. October was the cut-off for new students attending, so there was often a large influx of freshman right after the break.
"Lonny!"
Lonan turned around and saw Raymond, one of the Anzu house leaders, a fourth year graduate student, waving him down. "Hey, Lonny! What's up?"
"Oh, uh, hello Ray." He said. Lonan was on a more-than friendly basis with the house leaders, due to his ability to win competitions. In fact, all the top athletes, fighters and geniuses were treated very well in the houses, due to their ability to collect crowns, and bring honor to their house by claiming the title of head house of the year. Lonan had become a bit of a mini-celebrity last year, by somehow breaking the record of most crowns earned by an Anzu freshman, but that was mostly due to a couple major events that he had won by sheer luck, and one fight that even he surprised himself by winning.
"Lonny, buddy! Text me later, I've got something important to talk to you about mate! Stay frosty!" He said, pointing his fingers at Lonan like guns, and making little pew pew noises as he walked away. Lonan nodded and waved.
"
The headmaster will mostly likely be calling an assembly soon..." He thought, as he grabbed his bag and headed towards his room on the boys side of the hallway, brushing past the crowd of people chatting it up in the middle of the walk space.
