Physical Description: Standing just above 5 feet 8 inches, Chris is slightly shorter than the average male. In addition, he has a very slim, but healthy, body structure. Chris has softer facial features, with the exception of his more pronounced cheek bones. His eyes are a bright blue that will almost always reveal his mood or intentions. Chris keeps his hair short, and often wears it up if not against his head. When he goes without shaving, he grows a dark goatee along his chin.
Profession: Chris is a Chief Physician onboard the Ark.
Skills:
Medical Clearance: As a doctor aboard the Ark, Chris has access to the state of the art medical facilities developed by Nakatomi.
Intelligence: Chris is a skilled physician, having studied a broad spectrum of medicine throughout his years in practice. Even if he can't fix you, he will do whatever he can to help you. Further, Chris studied a broad liberal arts curriculum during his early years while still honing his medical knowledge. As a result, he is well versed in other subjects of natural sciences, social sciences, and language.
Equipment:
Emergency Medical Kit: As a doctor, Chris knows the value of always being prepared. To this end, he always carries a field kit in the event of a dire emergency. It can be used to patch up minor injuries and alleviate some major injuries, but life threatening injuries generally require the patient be moved to a medical facility.
Medical History:
Anemia: A blood disorder characterized by the reduced capacity or inability of red blood cells to carry oxygen, generally caused by reduced counts of hemoglobin. In Chris's case, it has been minor, as his hemoglobin production is below average. Heavy activity or stress is more likely to induce a lapse in consciousness due to low oxygen levels in the brain.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Mild and latent in Chris's case, but still present nonetheless. A high stress situation may reignite symptoms.
Psych Analysis: Chris has always been a more introverted individual, in part because he always strayed from the crowd. He was never interested in being part of the mainstream culture, but instead followed what he believed to be right. As a teenager this made an outcast amongst his peers, causing him to further turn inward. Despite this, Chris always nurtured an extremely empathetic spirit, and always did whatever possible to help those around him. His strong nerves and even temperament led him down the path of medicine.
After becoming a doctor, he began to become more extroverted to make himself more personable to patients. As a result of performing surgeries and witnessing horrific injuries, his nerves became steel, and his head level and cool under pressure. Following a tragic incident shortly before his arrival at the Ark, however, Chris again returned to full introversion, and lost some of his even temper.
It is worth nothing that Chris is very uneasy and apprehensive towards the continued use of augmentation for luxury and recreation.
Personal History: Chris was born into an uneventful life in London. He had loving parents and a bourgeoise middle class lifestyle, which was much more than many of his early friends could ask for. His routine and cushy life, however, made him yearn for adventure; the young Chris could be found roaming the city listening to music, or diving into a novel on the roof of the Galloway's building. By the time he became a teenager, there wasn't much of London Chris hadn't seen.
During secondary school, Chris earned the reputation of an outsider for his introverted behavior, but was nonetheless friendly and helpful towards all of his schoolmates. He couldn't participate in sports because of his anemia, so he formed a small but tight knit group of friends, and together they enjoyed gallivanting across London and the United Kingdom in pursuit of knowledge and experience. While the spirit of adventure within Chris was developing, he began to ponder his future. It was only after meeting a doctor working for the World Health Organization while at a pub that Chris realized that he wanted to study medicine.
Chris then left the U.K. to attend school at New York University. While he sincerely missed his family and friends, he occupied himself with his studies and exploration of his new home. Ever the adventurous spirit, on breaks that he could not return home, Chris toured the United States seeing new people and locales. He worked in the NYU Langone Medical Center, where he built up a reputation as a very skilled physician while studying advanced medicine. At the young age of 25, Chris received his MD-PhD and the job offer he dreamed of: field work for Doctors Without Borders.
He spent the next five years traveling the globe, providing humanitarian relief in war-torn nations and disaster regions. The horrors that he witnessed during these years gave Chris steel nerves and a level head, making him a better surgeon than he was before. Between trips to the field, Chris would continue to work at NYU Langone, but now as a senior physician instead of a student.
It was at the age of 29 that tragedy struck. While on a broad humanitarian mission in the Democratic People's Republic of the Congo, Chris, among with other relief workers, was kidnapped and held for ransom by a warring faction. While Chris managed to survive until he was rescued by a peacekeeping force, he watched most of the other doctors be violently murdered as a show of force. The incident haunted him, and he elected to take an extended leave from field work and return to New York.
Upon his return to hospital work, Chris found that he had lost some deal of his even temper, and diagnosed himself with mild Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In response, he was provided a therapist by the hospital, but he stopped attending meetings after his symptoms began to fade. Adventure again began calling to Chris, but he refrained from taking field work for Doctors Without Borders again. Luckily enough, he received an offer from the Nakatomi Corporation to live and work on Ark One as part of the Research and Development Department. Uneasy about taking part in secretive experimentation, Chris declined their initial offer. However, the corporation quickly returned with an offer to serve as a chief physician. After thoughtful consideration and consultation from his family and friends, Chris agreed, and has been on the Ark since.
