"They found me wandering the train tracks. At first they just offered me a place to sleep for the night. After that, I kept coming back. I don't know why, but I wasn't going to find anything close to home again. That's why I left mine in the first place. I begged Elsa for anything, told her I could help break down and set up camp. Even cook or clean. She thought I was meddlesome. I wasn't interested in money. I just wanted a place to stay. After giving it a trial run, she took to making me over like a puppet doll. Some of the performers say it's an ironic occupation."
Legal Name: Aletea Marie Constanzo
Alias: Aletea Applegate // Tea // Ally // Dolly
Date of Birth: April 1st, 1934
Age: 18
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 119 lbs
As a young girl, Aletea found herself often out of place. Peers and classmates poked fun at her, always teasing her about the gap between her two front teeth. Her wardrobe garnered her no friends, either. Her mother was particularly fond of frilly collars and oversized hair bows. This trend followed Aletea into high school, where the teasing and bullying became worse. Aletea, however, discovered that her motherâs doting and designated doll-like outfits grew on her.
It wasnât long before Aletea all but felt herself going postal. Between the routine home life and the unchanging sway of high school, she lost herself. Her motherâs adoration wasnât enough to keep Aleteaâs head above water. The young woman truly had no sense of belonging where she was. And with the habits of her father, well⊠There was no way in hell Aletea was going to stay in Orlando. But, she chose to take it easy on her mother. She would wait until she was eighteen to take off, at least give some closure where it was needed. Regardless, her mother was left terribly forlorn when she awoke to Aletea having packed up and split town.
Aletea only traveled a few miles on foot before deciding to tweak her appearance and throw off any potential pursuit. Throughout being on the run, her hair varied in colors and lengths. Apparently it worked, as she never faced any real repercussion for running away from home. When she reached Jupiter, FL, she took to following the train tracks to avoid getting completely lost. But losing her shoes and being out of touch with reality exhausted her. Having collapsed and fainted, Aletea was found by a traveling troupe. A circus. And they gave her a place to sleep, and took care of her until she was able to manage again on her own.
Naturally, that was the extent of it. But Aletea continued to return to Elsa's Cabinet of Curiosities until she could prove herself a worthy helping hand. She liked the performers, loved the atmosphere. It was somewhere she didn't feel outcasted and tormented. Eventually, after working her hands to the bone, Elsa took a shining to Aletea. It was brief, but useful. Having a petite and doll-like appearance made her a valuable puppet side-show act, and an occasional object of affection. Aletea enjoyed the idea of a maternal figure who would hold her dear, even if in tiny increments.
Aletea is a patient and quiet girl. But catch her on a sugar rush or a bad day, and she wonât stop talking. Her quirks involve compulsive blinking which often makes her appear anxious. Sheâs always eager to please and receive praise. Known to get sensitive and irritable when asked about her family or past, Aletea prefers not to discuss her origin.
Aletea is open minded and free-willed despite acting as Elsaâs pet. She has a habit of inserting herself in situations where she isnât needed, solely because she thinks sheâs helping another defend themselves. But donât be fooled by her appearance or morality, this southern peach certainly has the potential to develop some rotten tendencies.
It isnât just the cabinet that deemed Aletea a doll. In fact, all throughout her childhood, she was referred to as such. Having always been much more petite than the other girls, Aletea is liable to be mistaken for someone much younger than she. Barely conquering five feet by two inches, she is very dainty and thin. Her attire ranges from A-Frame skirts and ruffled blouses to more sophisticated garb like long, glittery gowns, mandated by Elsa. More often than not, she can be found without shoes. One thing Aletea is not a fan of is being forced to pick from the childrenâs section due to her strangely elfin feet.
Having taken to her sort of âdisguiseâ, Aletea maintains her hair almost obsessively. The right half of her head is generally bleached blond, or temporarily colored with pinks, purples, and blues. The left half is her natural color, brown black. Customarily it is pulled into a high and tight fashion, or curled and adorned with an oversized bow.
With eyelids painted in vibrant shades, Aleteaâs large coffee-colored eyes stand out intensely. Typically she wears deep shades of lipstick. If she is feeling spontaneous, you might catch her wearing a shade of purple or blue. She has a simple nose ring, which Elsa only allows her to wear when the cabinet is not performing. As a product of being with the freak show for months, Aletea stretched her earlobes over time with some convincing from the other performers (this was probably during a drunken celebration and help from hallucinogens).
