The Basics
Name: Aravis of Calormen
Age: 20
Race: Human
Affiliation: Calormen
Gender: Female
Personality Aravis is in many ways a typical noblewoman, used to the luxuries and finer things in life. She does not question where such luxuries come from nor what effort went into creating them. She was raised as one of royalty and from an early age became used to being surrounded by slaves and commoners and now she does not even notice them. She is arrogant in some ways expecting others to do as she commands without question and swiftly punishing those who do not. She is supremely confident in her self as a woman and has no doubts or insecurities about her abilities. She is as she was moulded to be, a true Tarkheena of Calormen, and sees nothing wrong in the way she treats others or herself. She can also be manipulative though this is not intentionally used for cruel purposes but more to ensure that Aravis gets her own way.
Aravis does have another side to her personality however one that her father Kidrash "Tisroc" of Calormen wishes he could remove from her. Aravis possesses an innate strong will and an almost perverse stubbornness. If she does not want to do something then she will not be moved or will find a way around whatever obstacle is in her path. She is fiercely loyal to those she cares about and will go to great lengths to see they do not come to harm. She is known as a talented storyteller, a trait highly prized in Calormen, and enjoys nothing more than entertaining others with one of the many stories and legends she knows. Aravis has not seen much beyond her own country and as such only knows of other nations from what she has read in books and what her tutors have taught her. She believes that Calormen is superior to all other nations and that the other races are almost barbaric in comparison to her own culture as she has been taught.
History Aravis was born in Tashbaan the capital city of Calormen to Kidrash Tisroc of Calormen and his wife K'halina, she was raised in the height of luxury and wealth as her father was one of the wealthiest men in Calormen. From birth she was never allowed to go anywhere without one or more of the fiercely loyal, specially trained bodyguards that her father had appointed for her protection. As a child Aravis was very mischievous and because she was often bored with her safe cloistered life she would make a game out of how long she could elude her bodyguards. She would sneak out of the palace and explore Tashbaan before being reluctantly dragged back by a very resigned bodyguard. Her father would scold her and punish her in some way but it never deterred her for long.
As a young woman Aravis began using her looks and charm to get what she wanted and her father, and other family members often found it hard to refuse her when she used them. She practised her manipulation as a way of alleviating the boredom of her life. Aravis was an intelligent and lively young woman who became bored easily, she continued her forays into the city, convinced a family servant to teach her sword fighting and dagger throwing, and also spent a great deal of time on horseback. In the last few years her father has been considering finding her a husband as she is of age but he is determined whatever match he chooses will benefit him and his family significantly.
Purpose for being in Narnia: She has accompanied her father to Narnia on invitation from the monarchs of Narnia, they have accepted out of curiosity mainly but also to see what Narnia's weaknesses are and whether those weaknesses can be exploited. Aravis believes that the Narnians would benefit from Calormen rule and sees no reason why they should object if Calormen was to conquer them. In this she is very innocent and I plan to have her realise, over the course of the roleplay, that things are never that simple or black and white.
