Maya could hear the voices of the people in Stars and Sips through the thin walls of the bakery. She gathered up some pastries and muffins and put them into a brown paper bag. The owner of this particular bakery, 'Flour Power', was apparently close with the man who owned the coffee shop next door, and thus he sent them free confectionery every other day. Today was Maya's turn, and although she had never actually been inside the shop before, she could always smell the supposedly phenomenal coffee (according to her boss) when she passed by.

The glass doors opened automatically as she exited, only a few short metres away from the shop. Walking towards it, Maya glanced over the exterior -- its design was certainly pretty, that was certain. She knocked softly on the door, knowing that it wouldn't be open at this time of day.

Domonic nodded as he listened to the girl, "Ah i see. New folks seem to arrive everyday. Most go straight into hiding though, not a cafe at the crack of dawn." He chuckled, looking out the large glass windows and seeing the black sky starting to lighten.

He looked over the girl again, "As for thrift stores, they aren't hard to find. In a town like Redwash, there's a pretty penny to be made in things people want to get rid of."

He grabbed a stray coffee mug with the intent on cleaning it, "The closest one however is a couple blocks down from here to the left." He walked over to the large sink behind the counter and turned on the hot water. She was gonna need a clean cup to drink out of, so it seemed as good a time as any to start washing dishes. Though, the sweets and small things to eat needed to be done before he opened. And he hoped he could get it done in time. Domonic thought to himself as he took a soapy sponge to the mug.

After the mug was washed and he placed it down to dry he was about to ask her what she would like when she cut him off by asking if she could help with anything.

Domonic bit his lip in thought, "...Well, are you good at following a recipe?" He asked her. His usual smile still on his face as another soft knock came from the front door. He looked up to see another young girl. He chuckled to himself, "Two in one morning before opening. Jesus Domonic, what have you gotten into." he thought, looking the second girl over. His smile grew a little as he noticed the apron she was wearing being from the bakery up the street, and he waved her in.

Straight to hiding, she laughed ironically at herself. That's what she thought she was doing, for lack of anywhere else to go. The sun was starting to come up and it was a pleasant sight to see the light wash over the central strip of Redwash. She looked out of the window of the shop as he directed her to the nearest thrift shop, she couldn't see it from the coffee shop but it helped her to picture its location so she knew where to head later.

"Yeah I can do whatever," she told him, standing up and starting to walk over to him. She froze at the sound of a knock, wondering if it was opening time already. But no, it was a girl who was also in uniform carrying a box of deliveries. She saw that the shop owner at waved her in, so Spencer went and opened the door for her. She nodded at the girl when she entered the shop saying a quick, "Hey".

Maya smiled and greeted the young woman, who appeared to be leaving, with a polite 'Good morning!'. Then, she approached the man who seemed to be the owner of the shop. "Sorry Mr. Castell, are you already open? I hope I'm not interrupting! I have the usual deliveries from boss?" She smiled sheepishly, holding out the bag awkwardly. While doing this, she glanced around the interior of the shop -- it really was quite a quaint little thing. The decorum was just so pretty.

Maya wondered vaguely who the girl in the shop was -- as someone who had a tendency to butt into others' business, no matter how awkward she may seem, she made it her business to try and acquaint herself with everyone. She made a mental note to talk to her if she saw her at anytime after work.

"No, i'm not open yet. But no worries. All is well." He said softly, taking the bag from her.

"Make sure to tell him thank you for me." He smiled as she glanced around the shop. It wasn't much to look at. It was simple and just how he liked it. The floors were a light hard wood and he had tables and chairs to match. The walls were a dark blue and covered with art he had collected over the years and the ceiling was black with constellations scattered across it. He had always loved the stars and astrology. Ever since he and Amira and snuck out and laid in the family garden together as she talked his ear off telling him the stories behind each one.

If anyone had been watching close enough they would have seen a slight frown flash across Domonic's face as he shook the thought from his head. Why did he always seem to reminisce about everything? He would be doing so good and then something would remind him of one thing or another and it was back to square one. He turned to hide his face and placed the bag down on the counter behind him as his mother's words flashed though his mind.

"You'll burn in hell for such sinful thoughts. You dirty urchin. I knew from the start you'd be a bastard and make my life miserable." He winced, they still pinched a little to remember. It was a week before the family decided to disown him that he heard those words.

With a deep breath Domonic cleared his head. This was no time to get mopey, he had guests. He turned back around. His smile returned and looked towards the girl who was first in his shop. "Well miss if you're confident you can do it, would you come back to the kitchen and start prepping the food items for today?" He asked cheerfully.

"Oh, that's good! I will. Um, if you don't mind, I can stay and help out if you needed any? We heard you're, uh, kind of short-handed and we have plenty of people so... Plus, there's no way boss will mind if I stayed to help you out? Ehehe..." Maya laughed awkwardly, feeling mildly uncomfortable at the slightly sour expression she saw on Domonic's face. He didn't make it obvious, but it made her kind of nervous all the same. He seemed intimidating in a way, despite his sweet demeanour. She had a feeling she shouldn't make this guy mad.

Turning her attention to the girl behind her, Maya's curiosity peaked. Everything about this girl screamed mysterious, from her clothes to her hair to her eyes. Instead of voicing this, Maya just smiled toothily at the girl.

Kiffen had only recently exited the bus. The anxiousness he'd felt cramped in a small space with two dozen or so people was beginning to pass, but what was he doing? He was too young to be trying this, too young to be leaving. He hadn't given anyone notice, he'd simply picked up and left.

The streets themselves were terrifying, their unfamiliarity made them seem larger, they appeared as if they were looming over him, intimidating him (as if it weren't already easy to do). Why had he done this? His home life wasn't that bad, he could have simply gone to medical school and stayed in the residence there. Why was he throwing his life away like this?

But then again, he didn't want to be connected to that family again.

He approached what looked like a coffee shop, where a small group stood inside and chatted. A part of him screamed not to interrupt, but the other part whispered that he needed to get his bearings. Kiffen decided a while ago that he didn't want to listen to people who screamed any more, and so he tentatively approached the door, weakly rapping on the glass with his fist.

"E-Excuse me!" He called out with a small crack in his voice. "A-A-Are... A-Are you open?"

Domonic turned his attention to the girl in the apron, "No it's alright miss. You're on the job right now. I couldn't take you away from that and possibly get you in trouble. Thank you for the offer though." Domonic decided to continue washing dishes as he waited for the dark haired girl's answer.

"By the way you two, What are your names?" He asked over his shoulder as he filled the large skin with warm, soapy water.

A third knock came to the door and Domonic shook his head and chuckled. "Maybe this is a warning on how busy today will be." He thought to himself, turning back around to see who it was. Through the glass he could make out a young boy with large eyes as he peaked his head in to ask if the cafe was open.

He smiled and waved the boy in, "No, I'm not open but you're welcome to come in."

"O-Oh... oh, alright... I-I-If it's not a bother, sir." He mumbled out, keeping his gaze on the ground as he went to enter the room. He stole a few glances at the others in the café, nobody he knew of course, though he did feel more of an urge to speak to the red-haired one. Something about the other girl bothered him. Perhaps she reminded him too much of some girls he'd gone to high-school with, perhaps her 'mysterious' air put him off. Either way, he tried not to dwell.

"Ehm... I-I can er... I can p-p-pay for food once... once it's open, if that's alright." He mumbled out, clutching the strap of his satchel.

"Oh, are you sure? All right then, I'll be heading back?" Maya said politely, secretly disappointed she couldn't stay longer. It really seemed just as her boss had described it. As she turned around, she heard Domonic's question and answered, "I'm Maya!" before noticing the boy walking inside. She flashed him a smile and walked out, back to the bakery.

Five minutes later, Maya was back in the coffee shop. "So, er, boss told me to come right on back and help you out, since we have plenty of hands on board anyway? So, here I am!" She grinned brightly at everyone in the room.

Kiffen glanced around nervously, subconsciously beginning to edge back to the corner of the room as he observed the others interacting. He'd just wait until he could buy food, and then he could head off on his way without bothering anyone else... yeah... that was a solid plan.

"E-Er... help with... what e-e-exactly?" he asked softly, unable to help himself and cursing his own inability to shut up right after.

Maya looked over to the skinny boy near the corner of the shop. She noticed he seemed to be trying to make himself less noticeable -- the slouch, the stutter, the quiet voice -- it all pointed to him being shy, possibly insecure. She smiled at him and said, "Just to, you know, help run the shop? Baking, making coffee, all that. Say, what's your name? I don't think I've seen you around before!".

Maya was wondering why all of these new people were coming out of nowhere -- was there a running away trend or something she didn't know about? First the mysterious looking girl, and now this rich-boy. At least, he seemed rich, judging by his clothed. She wondered why one who looked so privileged would be so shy.

Domonic smiled at the boy, "Oh it's quite alright. As long as you start a rampage of destruction you can stay as long as you want. You don't even have to buy anything if you don't want too." He eyed the boy. He seemed quite young. Domonic assumed he might be a runaway.

Domonic had turned to turn off the sink faucet when Maya walked back in.
"Did he now? Well since my first guest has gone mute would you like to take up the offer to start making food?" He asked after she had a asked the boy a question.

He started filling the sink with the dirty dishes from the previous day. "I open in about an hour and i have nothing in the oven yet."

Kiffen had gulped before taking a bit of time to respond. Speaking to others wasn't exactly his strong suit, but at least women were usually less aggressive.

"K-Kiffen Klein, ma'am. A-And I..." He paused, trailing off, "I-It'd be rude n-n-not to... not to buy anything i-in your establishment... l-loitering and all that. I'd... offer to h-help out but ah... I c-c-can't really cook save for burned toast..."

Maya smiled brightly at the boy -- whom she now knew was named Kiffen. "It's nice to meet you, Kiffen! Also, you don't have to call me ma'am, ehehehe. Just Maja?" She told him. He was rather adorable -- his skinny, small stature made him seem fragile and cute. He reminded her somewhat of her father, who had always been shorter than her ever since she began puberty.

Turning her attention to Domonic, Maya spoke, "Yeah, that's fine! I'll get to work now?". She went to join Domonic in the kitchen, before pausing and asking, "Er, so what should I cook? Ehehe..."

Kiffen reddened a bit from his own embarrassment, glancing around the area once again before responding. "R-R-Right... sorry, miss Maya." he mumbled out, coughing into his hand.

"I-I er... d-do either of you know where a er... a motel i-i-is? S-Somewhere to stay the night?"

Maya smiled at Kiffen, not quite catching what he had said, and she was about to ask him to repeat it before he spoke again. "Oh, indeed I do! You see that Tesco there?" She pointed out the window to a shop on the corner of the road, "Take a right there, and there should be a hostel right there?"

Maya turned away again, before setting to work on the things Domonic left discarded on the counter, half-finished."If you're planning to stay here long term, there are some apartments to let nearby, actually?" She commented, working and making conversation at the same time.
