Aliases: Phantom Star
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Species: Human, partly demon
Allegiance: Whoever bids highest!

DESCRIPTION–
Equipment/Weaponry:
  • Devin-pattern rifle"Peacemaker": The signature weapon of the rogue known as the 'Phantom Star is a modified laser shotgun. The weapon simply focuses an amount of energy in its barrel before unleashing an unbridled red light that sears anything too close and leaves a bloody crater on the chest of the unfortunate victim. In addition, being an energy weapon, the Peacemaker relies on an energy cell rather than physical ammunition effectively sparing Dean from the 'dead man click'.
Finally, the weapon can be overloaded in order to deliver a potent long-ranged beam that is able to pierce through a vehicle's armoured hull even though such maneuver overheats the battery and forces the weapon to enter an emergency lockdown.
Another side effect is the very nature of the weapon: once the battery runs out, it is quite hard to find a replacement on the battlefield and a shotgun is effective only in close ranged firefights.
  • Wrist-mounted flamethrower: A rudimental, simple weapon that is capable of torching a small area in front of the wielder. Despite being relatively weak, the sudden activation of this trinket can catch most adversaries unprepared - allowing Dean to move in for the kill.
  • Dagger: [font=calibri]What is a renegade, without a trusty gutting knife?
Height/Weight: 1.78m/77.1kg
Eyes: Dark brown
Skin Color: Tanned
Facial Features: Rough, yet cleanly shaven. Rather than showing signs of aging, Dean looks more masculine rather than old.
Hair: Chestnut brown
Starting Clothing: The rogue wears simple yet comfortable clothing: a woven long-sleeved shirt and a pair of trousers are sufficient for Dean, even though he covers himself with a mantle or a blanket while voyaging in space. Belts and satchels complement the look and provide the rascal enough space for bandages, miniature gas tanks, explosives, tools and sometimes even a secondary laser battery.
Armor: Dean's armor is quite simple, focusing more on flexibility and agility rather than shrugging off devastating damage and reflecting bullets.
The rogue simply reinforced his most vulnerable points: kneepads, shoulderpads, a jerkin and a lot of flashing is everything he needs in order to survive in this grim, dark future.

PERSONALITY: By default, all criminals are daredevils. But Dean brings it to a whole new level, operating not only in a single sector but for various clients scattered throughout the entirety of the Milky Way. It is safe to claim that, wherever there are murky affairs, Dean is somewhere hiding in a corner waiting for a patron to hire his services.
This attitude, however, highlights not only the human's bravery (or foolishness) but also his love for shiny things: money, jewelry, guns, ship parts are a couple of merchandises the outlaw accepts as payment.

Unlike most collegues, however, he is neither ruthless nor bloodthirsty, killing only when somebody is standing in his path or was foolish enough to provoke him. He is, indeed, the vengeful sort of brigand that does not abide to any law code except his very own agenda.

Another fundamental trait of Dean is his skepticism versus religion and any form of faith: he's by all means a concretist. Aside his cynical attitude, Dean can be an enjoyable drinking mate and he can turn out to be a really trusty and reliable man, provided somebody manages to befriend the spacefarer.

Likes:
  • Travelling
  • Good food, a warm bed and sublime alcohol
  • Starships, and aircrafts in general
  • Sharpshooter. And he's good at it.
  • Collecting seashells, and he has an impressive stash onboard.
  • Fun, easy-going people
  • Daring plans, openly suicidal operations
Dislikes:
  • El'vyrs. Their transparent complexion startles Dean
  • Snobs, and any place that is 'fancy'.
  • Space-ports
  • Demons
  • Law-enforcers
  • Cowardice, or backstabbing. Being disappointed in general.

History

Every thief has a beginning - and Dean started as a crewman on a trading vessel. He was son of an anonymous couple on a poor planet located on the outer reaches of human space, and lived a normal childhood - well, even though he and his three siblings had to go through periods of fast due to the family's poverty.

At the age of sixteen, Dean left his family and embarked on the first star voyage working as a handiman for a tradesman that was kind enough to provide the youngster a basic engineer formation. Soon enough, the boy showed a good deal of wits and became part of the vessel's engineering crew - a fairly well paid trade.
Still, no matter how much he liked the captain, the vocation soon became boring: routine set in, imposing its grey frame on the life of a rebelling youngster. That is why it didn't take too long before Dean deserted, leaving everything he knew and held dear for the sake of adventure and embarked on an exploration vessel crew.

His new life was indeed adventurous, but also perilous; exactly what the young man wished for. A couple of months onboard and Dean learnt how to wield a gun and even forged a couple of contacts in the galactic underworld - opening his path for a career as smuggler, bounty hunter and thief.

A couple of years later, however, his life changed completely: during one of many voyages, Dean's ship was unfortunate enough to cross a Demonic incursion force. While pirates and raiders were common and easily dealt with, these unholy beasts fell upon the vessel like furies and slaughtered the crew in hours no matter how hard the men resisted.
Dean was one of the massacred victims, but unlike most of his comrades his body wasn't utterly butchered - rather, a single penetrating thrust in his shoulder caused his presumed 'death'.
Despite the heavy loss of blood, Dean was still conscious - conscious enough to feel a searing pain that somehow healed the wound that would have been fatal if not for the nigh-miraculous intervention. For days, or maybe weeks, Dean writhed in pain as he felt his very essence change: witness of this malediction was his very wound that festered in a black mark that quickly claimed his shoulderblade and the left portion of his chest.

Barely alive, Dean docked the ship at the closest planet and left the ship before the inspectors boarded the vessel - who found nothing but splattered bodies and bloodstains. Dean was overwhelmed by his guilt, being the only survivor of the crew, that couldn't save a single soul nor do anything to help during the time of need.
Besides, he was no longer human: he felt surges of extraneous energy flickering throug his accursed body, chilling his spine. What would they have done, if they found out that he wasn't human? Would his fate have been death, or worse?

The man quickly overcame the survivor's guilt, and acknowledged that he needed to do something: laying down and dying would have been the ultimate expression of cowardice and that is what brought the origin of the Phantom Star: a criminal that operates throughout the entirety of the Milky Way, working for fame, glory and fortune.

So begins...
