Opinion of Mortals/Followers: "Humans... They have the potential to bring great prosperity and great disaster. They can be bastions of civilization, cooperating and trading with one another as they advance physically, mentally, and spiritually along with the greater community. Or they can be little more than beasts, fighting over a pile of excrement and devouring the blood of their fellows. Nevertheless, I believe in them and to all those who respect the Sea and are upright and honorable, I grant my favor."
Avuvians:
Avuvians, who are more often aptly named "Sea People", are upon first look no different than regular humans. About 5"8-6"5 on average, they are a tall people with tanned skinned skin and hair that varies from jet-black to bright-blonde. Their most notable feature, however, is their eyes. Most members of this race possess Sea-grey or Sea-blue eyes the exact color of the Sea they love at a certain time of day.
Like their god, they are a proud and honorable race and revere the Sea as a sort of entity in itself. They are loyal to their loved ones and keep their word. Lying is frowned upon and children are punished severely for hiding the full truth, though, they are still human and there are some who will tell half-truths, though this is not the norm. A common stereotype is that all Avuvians are sailors. Like all stereotypes, this has a grain of truth in that most Avuvians go out to sea at least once in their lifetime and the number of people who are sailors by trade is high, not to mention that their navy is the biggest and most efficient of the Known World. Many Avuvians, however, are traders and merchants by profession, buying, selling, and bartering goods that are brought from across the sea and other parts of Ashariel for the Avuvians are not just a naval power, they are an economic power as well.
Magic is welcomed, though the magic studied in the Academies are more often focused on conjuring winds, navigating the sea, and preserving perishable goods while on transport to a distant destination. Their army does have battle mages, however, and mages that command the sea is but one of the wapons in the arsenal of the Avuvian navy.
Civilization Name: Avuvian Confederation
Political System: The Avuvians are one people, but live in several city-states. Each city-state is ruled by a governing Council whose members are elected by the citizens of the said city. These Councils govern their own city-state and administer the day-to-day running of their city. However, each Council is subservient to the High Council in Thalassa which consists of a representative from each city-state with an equal vote. This Council is headed by the Avatar of Ulmo, though he leaves day-to-day decisions to the High Council. Any decision by the Avatar is final unless a 2/3 vote is stacked against him or her, a rare occurrence in Avuvian history which seldom leads to good results.
God Appearance:
Ulmo is an impressive being to behold, with dark blue hair the color of the sea, sea-blue eyes, and a lean muscular frame. He tends to dress in a robe consisting of blue, silver, and white, though, in battle, he wears bright armor of the same colors as well as a longsword and round shield.
Avatar Appearance:
Caspian appears as a young man in his early 20's. He has long brown hair and sea-blue eyes. Often, he is dressed in the raiments of a sailor, though he wears finer clothes when he has to. At his side is strapped an unique longsword (katana) given to him by Ulmo himself.
Personality:
God:Ulmo's mood is as changeable as the sea often going from light-hearted and benevolent to serious and determined to do what needs to be done, fierce in his anger and terrible to behold in his wrath as the Sea he commands. He is a proud god and doesn't suffer disrespect happily, but despite this, his nature is one of benevolence and good. He often enjoys watching humans, but interferes little, believing that they have the right to shape their own destiny and suffer the benefits and the consequences. At times, he is contemplative, pondering the nature of the gods and of the world itself. He values honor and is angered by lies.
Avatar: Caspian is a kind, but knowledgeable person. He knows his people like the back of his own hand and is fiercely loyal to both Ulmo and his kin. He is courageous and unafraid of death as he has lived far longer than most mortals and though fierce in a fight, he is open to diplomatic solutions. Like his god and most of his people, he dislikes corruption and fraud. He can be merry, but also deadly serious and once he judges someone or something to be a threat to the innocent, he won't stop until that threat is eradicated.
